Work Text:
It all started with Duke, the first Lark.
Sometimes Duke wondered if it was all worth it. The injuries, lying to cousin Jay, missing school, seeing Batman in action, up-close, un-censored, without the blurred, pixilated, black bars the news puts over the victims.
Because that’s what the city is. Victims. Everyone was a victim, of bullies and thieves, villains and collateral damage. Governments that don’t cares, underfunded social services.
Jason was a victim of Lark. His mantles latest sacrifice. That made Duke responsible. He can’t save Jason. But Dick? Robin still had a chance.
Duke stood on the train tracks.
