“Stupid brat!” The stinging on his face wasn't a new feeling. As a UA heroics student, Katsuki had been hit on multiple occasions, but he wasn't at school and the only other person here was his mother.
“Wha-?”
“Are you DEAF?! I said get OUT!!”
---------------------------------
It was getting dark and Katsuki wasn't sure where to go. He had debated visiting auntie Inko, but he knew she wouldn't believe his mother had actually meant to kick him out. In fact, his mom would probably say that he'd caused an argument and stormed out. He couldn't exactly show back up to the UA dorms at this time without causing a scene, they were supposed to be escorted back on a Sunday night, not show up unannounced at 10pm on a Saturday. Katsuki supposed he could just head to the park for the night, or just walk around a bit longer. He did consider just going home, but his father was away for the weekend, so there was no-one there to stop his mother from just getting angrier.
The wind was beginning to pick up and Katsuki internally cursed himself for not brining a bigger coat home with him this weekend, although in his defence, he should not have had to deal with this weather. He should've been in bed, asleep, by now.
A noise got his attention but, when he turned, there was no-one there. He continued walking, but this time paying much more attention to behind him. Maybe he was being paranoid, although after the summer camp, it wouldn't be unreasonable to assume. His heart was racing, but he heard the noise again, and instantly his phone was in his hand. He only had enough power for one call.
Katsuki didn't let himself doubt what he was doing as he clicked on Aizawa's contact, if nothing else, if something happened he was sure they'd be able to track him to here from that one call at least. He was surprised when his teacher answered after the third ring.
“Bakugo, it's late, is everything okay?” He heard on the other end of the line, but hesitated for a moment. He didn't want to tip off the person following him, especially sine he was unsure if they could hear what he said.
“Oi, nerd, don't tell me you've forgotten that we were going out tonight? I've gone past the coffee shop by the park three times now. Where the hell are you?” Katsuki knew that Deku had stayed in the dorms this weekend, and just hoped that Aizawa understood what he was trying to say.
“I'll be there in as soon as possible, try to stay on the line, kid.”
“Yeah, yeah nerd, don't leave me waiting forever. I didn't have a chance to charge my phone before I left, so I think I'm running out of time.”
Panic was starting to grip at Katsuki's chest as he realised the footsteps behind him were getting closer. He felt his hands begin to sweat more, instinctively preparing him for a fight. So long as the stranger attacked first, he could argue self-defence.
Movement behind him caught his attention, and he spun just in time to see the person following him get thrown into the wall by a kick. There was another shadowy figure, that his mind took a little long to figure out was Aizawa-sensei stood protectively in front of him.
---------------------------------
After scaring off the man that had been following Bakugo, Shota took his student into a late night café that he frequented. Of course, he had questions, but the kid was clearly still panicked, even if he thought he was hiding it well. They took a seat in a small booth, Bakugo with a hot chocolate and himself with a black coffee (from the bruise on his student's cheek he had a feeling it was a good job he'd got two extra espresso shots too). They sat in silence for a moment before Shota decided it would have to be him that started the conversation.
“That phone call was a very logical decision, quick thinking Bakugo. Although, is there a reason you were out so late?” He saw the blonde boy hesitate, not sure what to say.
“My dad is out of town, and my mom is a bit of a loose cannon. I must've done something to upset her because she kicked me out for a bit, though I'm sure I'll be allowed back some time tomorrow. I was just looking for somewhere to kill some time.”
Shota felt his quirk flare with his temper for a moment before calming himself in an attempt to not put his student any more on edge. Had this woman really expected her fifteen-year-old son to spend a night on the streets, for something so minor he couldn't even remember what he'd done. Her son, who, had only weeks ago been very publicly kidnapped by a major villain organisation, he should add. Once again, his eyes were drawn to the bruise on Bakugo's cheek.
“And was that,” he asked pointing to the bruise, “also her doing?” he asked, attempting to keep his tone level, even with the rage at what he already knew the answer would be. The blonde simply nodded and continued to sip at his drink.
“In that case, you are aware you will no longer be able to partake in home visits, and as a mandated reporter, I will have to file a police report,” Shota wasn't really sure what reaction to expect but to his surprise the boy just nodded again. He'd never seen Bakugo so resigned, and something uncomfortable settled in his stomach.
“They'll just assume I instigated, you're wasting your time. It's fine, I don't think I wanna go back anyway.”
Shota understood, in a way, what the boy meant, and honestly, didn't doubt some officers would do exactly as he had said.
“I know a detective with a lie detector quirk, if we spoke to him, your mother couldn't lie her way out.” As the words left his mouth, he noticed the blonde begin to consider his options. “You don't need to answer now, it's getting late, and I should be getting you back to the dorms. We can talk more tomorrow.”
“Sure.”
After they both finished their drinks and thanked the staff, they headed outside, where Hizashi sat waiting in a car.
“C'mon, lil' listener, let's get you back home.”
The drive was quiet and calm, though Shota was sure he could hear the whirring of Bakugo's brain as he tried to figure out what to do next. The silence though was a comfortable one, and he was even further comforted by the affectionate glances his husband kept throwing his way. Once they pulled through the UA gates and parked up, 'Zashi headed back up to their apartment and Shota led his problem child back to the 1-A dorms.
“Thanks, by the way, for coming to get me, and everything else too, I guess.”
“Anytime, kid. You have that number for a reason, I'm glad you trusted me enough to use it, now get some sleep. Like I said, we can talk again in the morning.”
Shota watched as the blonde headed up the stairs to hopefully sleep, then turned on his heel to head back to his apartment. Plans swirling around his mind for how he could protect his student from this ever happening again. Perhaps this plan would have to include Nezu.
