Chapter Text
In a world with quirks, it was no surprise to anyone when soulmates and soulmarks started to appear. Some bonds were different than others; some soulmates could write to each other on their skins, some could feel each other’s pain, some people didn’t see the color of their soulmates eyes their whole life, meaning if there soulmate's eye color was blue, they wouldn’t see blue until they met their soulmate, some just had simple soulmarks that did something, and some rare cases of people had soulmarks that moved across their body.
The point is everyone’s soul bond was different; however, no matter what happened, one thing was common knowledge: soulmarks appeared once your soulmate was born and it stung when you first got them. Plus, on top of that, when you first meet your soulmate, you feel a small spark—like you were being shocked or shook by someone or something—plus, if you had a mark, which most people do, they would glow slightly. But, the only way to activate the bond and know you were soulmates was to touch each other or see your soulmates marks and if they matched yours well…
At first, the older generation didn’t like the idea of soulmates, and society shunned them in a way until slowly, but sooner or later, the newer generation became the older generation, and soulmates became normalized.
Of course, there were other kinds of bonds like parental or platonic bonds, but those were extremely rare to come by and only appeared once you met the others. Then the mark appears, but unlike with romantic soulmates, they don’t move around, and they appear on your palm.
Of course, there were laws that protected soulmates and other stuff like that. Some of the laws were things that protected people from soulmate abuse, among other things. In most cases, it didn’t matter your soulmate's status or age, and you were allowed to pursue your soulmate as long as you were a willing participant. But of course, there were laws to protect you if you decided to deny or refuse the bond.
That was all Aizawa knew about soulmates until he was fifteen. He and Yamada were cuddling in the blonde’s bed when they both felt a sting of pain.
“Ow.” Yamada whined slightly, looking down at his wrist. A—green bunny—mark appeared. He looked over at his boyfriend's wrist to see the exact same mark on his too. There usual marks a simple yellow cockatiel, and Aizawa’s black cat was snuggled up together while the bunny was sound asleep.
“That hurts.” Aizawa hissed, lifting his hand and looking down at his own wrist. “Oh, it’s a bunny that’s slightly cute.” He muttered. “You got one too, right, Zashi?”
“Of course I do, babe.” The blonde winked at his boyfriend. “Ya can’t get rid of me.”
Aizawa chuckled, “As if I could ever get rid of your loudmouth. Plus, I kind of like you.” he said jokingly.
“Aww,” Yamada teased as he reached over, poking at the black-haired boy’s cheek. “Shou you're starting to sound soft.”
"Oh, shut up, I’m not soft.” Aizawa muttered while playfully swatting the other’s hand away.
“Oh yeah, babe, you’re a big ol’ softie.”
“Oh please,” The black-haired boy started with a small glare, looking down at the other. “I’m going to throw you out of the window if you don’t stop calling me soft.” He threatened but they both knew it was an empty threat.
Yamada laughed before sitting up; his expression turned slightly serious as he thought about the situation. Looking down at the new mark again, “Soulmarks appear when your soulmate is born, Shou.” He spoke his voice low as he realized the situation. “They’re younger than us, not just a year or two younger but fifteen years younger than us.”
“I know how soulmarks work, Zash-“
“Don’t be such a smarty pants I was just saying!” Yamada cut him off with a pout.
“Right,” Aizawa chuckled. “But seriously, I know they’re fifteen years younger than us, but that’s fine.” He ran his finger over the bunny mark. “Let’s forget about that for now, okay? We’ll cross that bridge when we get there. For now, it’s just you and me.”
Yamada hummed, laying back down, he buried his face in his boyfriend's chest. His index finger gently tracing small circles on the other “Right. It’ll be fine.” He muttered against the other’s chest. “Even if they don’t want us in the future, we’ll still have each other, right?” He asked, looking up at his soulmate.
Aizawa placed a hand on top of Yamada’s head and ran his fingers through his hair. “Of course.” He said before placing a kiss on the other’s forehead. “We’ll still have each other no matter what.”
The blonde hummed as he closed his eyes and just focused on the other’s hand in his hair. “You’re so sweet sometimes ya know that?”
Aizawa rolled his eyes and slightly tugged on the other’s hair. “And you’re annoying all the time. So we’re even.”
“Hey! I’m not annoying.” Yamada protested with a small pout.
“Sure,” Aizawa rolled his eyes. “Keep telling yourself that.”
