Chapter Text
It was common knowledge that the king of Yokota was infertile, he never bothered to marry, as he was one who believed that he alone can rule his large nation.
The people knew him as ruthless and cold, yet they still followed him blindly in fear of his wrath, yet promises of a good life as long as they stay in line. As due to his calculated and harsh ruling, his nation never failed to prosper and succeed in wealth and riches.
It stayed safe from the conquering of different nations and countries, with many valuable trades and businesses partners. The nation grew by taking over smaller villages no one ever bothered to protect, one by one, til it reached the size of what is now one of the strongest super powers. No one dared to face the cold eyes of King Ogai Mori.
Despite it's lack of alliances, still, no one even dared to oppose. While other super powers were aware of the corrupt, many decided it wasn't worth the loss or trouble, so the simply let Yokota be.
Abilities were an interesting concept amongst everyone within the world, everyone had one, ranging from being able to control gravity itself, to turing your nails into hair. No amount of philosophy or science could figure out what these gifts were, but it was known everyone had one, whether it be rivaling the power of armies or just simplify making the baking of bread happen quicker than usual.
So it was a huge shock to everyone when Mori announced that he personally, would be going around to many different orphanages to pick out a child to raise as his heir.
It was obvious he would want a strong an capable heir, but the thought of him raising a child, it perplexed many.
It was bound to happen, the people knew that their "dear" king Mori wouldn't let just anyone rule the nation he worked so hard to sustain with absolute obedience.
Still, the public silently mourned which unfortunate child would be broken down and ripped to shreds by their beloved King.

The sun shone brightly onto a green field where the distant sounds of children chattering and playing could be heard. A huge plot of land, most likely within the country had an orphanage sat in the middle, with a farm near by. There by an apple tree which rested upon a hill, sat two children looking to be around 7 or 8, intently reading a book together. The shorter of the two had ginger hair and bright blue eyes and was intently trying to read. While the other child had chestnut brown curls and freckles littered his face, he seemed less interested in his friends book and was trying to do all he could to bother the shorter child. "Quit it Dazai! I'm trying to focusss!" He whined while shoving Dazai of his shoulder. Dazai smirked mischievously, "Whatever Chuuya, we alllll get that controlling gravity is your ability, but reading books all with different theories on it isn't gonna help you get better you dummy! You gotta practice!" The ginger glared angrily ," yeah! Well-"
Thud!
"OUCH" rubbing his head, Dazai tried to sooth his pain while Chuuya snicked. Dazai's eyes trailed up to see an apple floating above the latters head, it appeared to have a faint red aura. "HEYYYY!!! NO FAIRRR!!! If you could do this the whole time why didn't you stop it from hitting ME?!" He squeaked. Chuuya grinned, "Not when you have that attitude I won't!" He continued to show off his new found control by moving the apple around. A thought crossed Dazai's head and he skilled evilly, as soon as the apple floated above Chuuya's head again, he lightly tapped his shoulder.
THUMP!!!
"DAZAI YOU LITTLE TWERP!!!" He fumed, while frantically shaking his arms out in anger!
Laughing out loud he exclaimed, "No way you're calling me little! YOU'RE TINY YOU'RE THE SIZE OF A SHRIMP!!!"
"WHY YOU- AHHHHHHHHHRRRRRHEHEIEI" With that Chuuya got up and lunged at Dazai causing both of them to topple backwards. Unlucky for them, the tree they sat under was on a hill, which caused both of them to tumble backwards, down the entire hill. "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH" "DAZAI I'M GANNA KILL YOU" " HOW IS THIS MY FAAA-AULLLTTTTTTTTT?!?!" Their tumbles came to an end a while after they reach the bottom, with both of the children breathless. Dazai layed under Chuuya, hair sprawled out in the grass while looking up at the other smiling, Chuuya had both arms pushing him up as he stared down at Dazai, he then rolled beside him, so they layed beside each other, before bursting into loud laughter. Staring at the clouds, Chuuya reached out to hold Dazai's hand, " For having no family, you never leave me lonely Dazai, you'll alwaysss be here to bother me!"
"Heheh Chuuya I'll ALWAYS be hear to bother you! You're never EVER getting rid of me, who needs anymore family for friends when I have you! You're all I need ChuChu!" He said while giggling.
"As long as I have you to keep me company forever I think I'll be just fine! As annoying as you are, you're all I need too! I'll stay by your side forever!"
With that, they both burst into a fit of laughter while blissfully laying, side by side while staring at the blue sky above.

More days of bliss pass between the children, until a visitor came,a dark, cold, and calculating visitor came. The orphanage was ecstatic to see the king had decided to pay a suprise to their humble orphanage on the outskirts of the capital. The owner,a wide eye, elder women with a warm smile thanked god that she wasn't out at the time.
"It is such an honour to have you here your majesty! Is there anything at all I could get you?? Quickly, quickly go prepare a drink for his majesty."
Quickly a caretaker scurried off to fulfil his duties while the owner of the orphanage ushered for the king to take a seat.Mori strided in taking a seat at a chair, with 2 guards standing at each of his side, unmoving like a statue. "Now your majesty, I hear your looking to adopt a child, you see we have 21 di-" Interrupting the owner, Mori retortûed, "Yes I hear that you have a child that has the ability to control gravity?"
"Ah! Yes, his name is Chuuya, would you like to meet him?
"Yes, that would be great thank you.
"Although there is a slight problem." The owner fiddled with her hands, "He has a friend, Dazai, it is nearly impossible to separate the two of them, but for you of course I would be able to make that happen!"
"That won't be necessary, I'll speak to them both."
"Yes,yes yes, thank you, thank you your majesty, I'll fetch them right away!" With a quick bow the ran off to get the two kids, hoping they were both in decent condition.
Mori stared down at the two kids facing him, both of them holding hands, The ginger one, Chuuya had a spark in his eyes, ambition and and hope, someone that looked like they'd want to change the world. No, no no. That won't do. However Dazai on the other hand, he Simply looked empty, empty until it came to Chuuya, yes, that was something he could use. Still, Mori decided to speak to the children.
Smiling, he asked, "Hello there children, may i enquire what your names are?"
"We're not supposed to tell strangers our name!" Chuuya blurted.
"Chuuya don't say that!!! That is our king! You must speak to him with the utmost respect!!" Your majesty I'm so sorry sorry?"
Raising a hand, he responded "It's ok Miss, do not threat, for these are only children, may I please speak to them alone?"
"Yes, yes, yes, of course, of course. Chuuya, Dazai...behave!" With that, she hurried out of the room. Leaving two small children with a monster.
A child's biggest fear is a monster, so when Mori came, Chuuya knew he had to do something to protect his best friend, of course he had to! He had to be strong, like a knight in shinning armour, all for Dazai. Dazai had no one to protect him before, while Chuuya had everything, he had to step up for his best friend. He may be the king but, there was something about his eyes, how he smiled with no life in them, how he started down at the children like he was watching his every move. He couldn't put his finger on it, but Chuuya knew something was wrong!
While quite the heated conversation between Mori and Chuuya, Dazai stayed silent, observing the whole thing, not uttering a single word, in conclusion, Chuuya had let Mori know that they are quite happy with their current life and do not wish to be royalty, to Mori's dismay; but of course, what good king wouldn't have a plan B?
"Dazai, before both of you go, may I have a private word with you?"
"Dazai you don't ha-"
"No it's ok Chuuya, you go ahead and get ready to eat dinner, I'll be 5 minutes."
"But-"
"Chuuya."
"Ok." The ginger stomped off.
" "Dear child, what do you think about becoming royalty?" Mori stated with a smile, that cold unfeeling smile with dead eyes.
"I'm quite happy where I am right now." Dazai stated looking up to him.Even the children of the land were aware of the king's cruel nature
His soft brown eyes meeting an empty stare.
"I can tell you're an intelligent child, so how about we cut to the chase. I know Chuuya means a lot to you, doesn't he?*
"More than anything?"
"Would you allow me to adopt you if he was out of the picture?"
Dazai's eyes widened in horror.
"What if it meant leaving Chuuya to protect him, would you do that?"
"Yes, I would."
"Well...let's just say, it would be really unfortunate if he happened to, accidentally, fall into a fast flowing river and drown. Or maybe because crushed to death by rubble while exploring an area, think of all of poor little Chuuya's bones crushing."
Dazai cringed, tears threatening to spill from his eyes.
"Or maybe he was shot dead by accident, by a hunter who mistaken him for his prey? Needless to say, I believe you get my point?"
"Yes..."
"And you know what I'm going to ask you, correct?"
"Yes......"
"Well...what's your answer?"
Dazai chocked back a sob.
"Yes..."
"Clever boy"
