Haley, also known as Bitewing, didn't do much. She mostly just sat around the apartment. But she just couldn't let this offense go- someone had hurt nightwing! And she was Bitewing! So Bitewing did what Bitewing does best and bit him! And now she was in prison.
Mr. Gordon was here, Haley's tail slowly began to wag, surely he would have some treats for her. She was a good girl!
"Bitewing, you are under arrest for biting a criminal without a warrant. Anything you bark or indicate will be held against you in a court of law," Gordon began to recite. Haley's tail began to droop. No treats for the best girl? Betrayal!
But before any kind of panic could set in, Red Hood blew up the wall to the holding cell where Bitewing was being kept. "Come on, Bitewing, time to go."
She hopped out the open wall and began to follow after Jason. He kept slowing down for her and guarding her like she wasn’t Bitewing, which was rude and she should totally bite him for that, but she supposed he got a pass for breaking her out. For now.
"Attention all units we have an escaped convict on the loose, subject is a dog with a mask." came over the radio. It crackled in the dead of night, startling awake whoever was there to hear it, and causing about half of Gotham’s police force to coo over this dog.
The cops were too slow and she was Bitewing they would never catch up in time! Jason led her- no, Bitewing led him because she was such a good girl who knew all of the directions into a small alleyway right down the corner of the prison. It was inconspicuous, dangerous, and incredibly suspicious... which means it's exactly where she needs to be!
Jason glanced around furtively, as if he was lost. Well, it mattered not, because she was Bitewing. "Where to now, girl? Huh?" He leaned down ruffled her dirty fur, picking out stray bits of wall from the dust that had barely touched her. "You're such a good girl, yes you are." He used his Special Voice for her, which never failed to make Bitewing hop up and down in excitement because it usually meant she got treats!!
Unbeknownst to Bitewing, Jason was considering taking her and running off. She was way too good for his brother. He would have to fight him for it, sure, and that would end in even more explosions, but Jason was sure Steph would help him out in that department if he promised to share custody.
Bitewing was aware of none of this. She was above such musings, especially while she had a job to do! Bitewing hobbled over to the wall and barked at it like it owed her money. In her experience, walls tended to carry her upwards! It was just what they needed. The wall, however, didn't respond.
Before she could get too sad, someone picked her up; Nightwing! Bitewing started to wiggle manically in pure happiness because that was her human, yes he was, hello!
He peppered her face with kisses. "Did you have fun?" He asked in that tone of voice he reserved specifically for her. Haley barked at him happily, wagging her tail. Yes she did!
