Work Text:

Red felt the communicator in his pocket vibrate vigorously, producing a loud 'ding' sound. He fumbled around in his inventory filled with potions and shulkers, trying to locate which slot he last left his communicator.

After a few seconds, he finally felt the rectangular shape of the communicator resting in his palm. Pulling it out from his inventory, he sees multiple direct messages.

Red opened his shulker and put away all of his valuables, plopping it back in the ender chest. His inventory was readied with pots and wind charges. Bringing out his elytra, he swiftly equipped it and started flying to the coordinates Ash sent him, careful not to light too much fireworks.

He arrived, seeing Ash's silhouette. He quickly put on his chestplate, hiding his elytra in his inventory just in case he accidentally instinctually uses the elytra to escape, which is bannable.

Ash faced him, giving him a soft smile before switching to his zealous personality.

"Finally, you've arrived." Ash voiced, annoyed that Red took longer than expected. His face was full of boredom, like his presence was annoying to Ash.

He couldn't wait to slice that expression off his face.

"1 minute prep." Ash shot a firework into the air, indicating the start of the minute.

Red started to organize his inventory. He made sure his sword, bow, crossbow, golden apples, webs and water bucket were on his hotbar, shield on his offhand. On the last 10 seconds, Red splashed a strength, absorption and speed potion and pre-gapped, bringing his heart count up to 14.

Another firework launched, announcing the start of their fight. Red quickly gripped his sword and glared Ash down, trying to look as menacing as he could.

"It's been a long time since we've fought. You better not disappoint me." Ash snarled, fire and determination visible in his eyes.

"Show me what you've got, will ya?" Red spouted, tightening the grip on his sword. Ash chuckled, finding amusement in the passion on Red's eyes.

Red drew his bowstring back, his arrow barely grazing Ash's face, making him stumble backwards. Using the time Ash was regaining his footing, Red lunged at Ash, sword tightly clutched in his palms. Ash brought his sword upwards, meeting Red's. It made a loud 'clang!' sound, making Red's ears perk up in irritance. Ash swiftly kicked Red in his abdomen, making him gasp and withdraw his sword.

"Nearly got ya there, huh? Better react faster." Red insulted him, patting the dust off his jacket. Ash simply laughed, not taking the offense to heart.

Ash charged forward, the tip of his sword aiming at Red's chest. Red used the time to splash experience bottles, mending his armour. He readied his shield, Ash's sword bouncing off of the wood. Ash aimed to deal a strike at Red's head, but Red sidestepped just in time, rolling on the dirt. He sprang back into position, ready to defend Ash's attacks.

Ash's attacks were relentless, each slice of his sword barely touching Red's skin. It felt exhilarating. He hadn't had an opponent who was nearly on the skill level for this long, Flame and Mane being stronger and Kab being weaker in pvp.

If you saw them from afar, you'd think they were dancing. The aggressive movements gave it away, though. It wasn't elegant nor peaceful, but it was at least filled with determination.

Red threw wind charges at Ash, trying to get him off for a few seconds to mend his armour. He could feel the experience fixing the cracks on his armor. Quickly splashing some pots in the air and chugging some golden apples, Red felt even more ready.

They frantically swung at each other, yet they were evenly matched, the only way of winning being endurance. Red could feel his legs getting weaker and weaker, but he wasn't one to give up. So they kept going, the ache in his legs worsening. After a few minutes, Red collapsed onto the floor, chugging as much golden apples as he could to get his legs working.

"Really?" Ash spat, looking down at him with confusion. Red looked back at him, swiftly chopping Ash's ankles. The pain sent Ash tumbling onto the ground, now on the same eye level as Red. They both stood up in pain, unwilling to give up.

"I'm not one to give up, Ash. You better be ready." Red smirks, chugging regeneration potions down his throat. Ash smiled back, doing the same.

"Me too." Ash sighed, his voice weak and raspy from chugging the sweet regeneration potions.

"Bring it on."

~

"Bring it on!" Ash yelled, a plastic katana clasped in his hands. Red stood on the opposing side, holding the same plastic katana.

They had a game: The two katanas would have different colors of paint on the ends--usually one red and one purple. Then, they'd try their best to get as much paint on the other as they can, whoever having the most paint on their clothes was the loser.

Red doused his sword into the bucket of red paint, smothering it all over the tip and dulled edges. Ash swang his sword at Red's face, Red bringing his sword up just in time to block it, splattering the paint all over each other. Ash let go, striking the air, trying to splash Red with as much paint as possible.

Ash used up too much paint on his sword, causing him to run back to his bucket. Red took this chance to charge behind him and push him onto the floor, the sword full of paint in his hand staining both his and Ash's clothes.

Red thought he got more paint on himself than on Ash while he was splashing him with paint, but it was alright. Red only had small splatters of paint on his clothing, so he won!

"Hah! You owe me ice cream!" Red shouted in victory, raising his sword and pointing it to the sky. Ash grumbled, pushing Red away from his body.

"Fine, fine. Calm down. Hey, look over there." Red glanced to the direction Ash pointed to, but Ash had snuck up behind him, dumping a sword full of paint all over his clothes.

"Bro, I already won, what was that for? Now I'm purple??" Red sighed, trying to shake off the paint in his hair. Ash laughed, wiping away the red paint on his skin. "Revenge. I can't let you celebrate too much."

"What are you kids doing? Why is Red becoming purple? Ash. Get back here!"

Oh shit.

With the way Red's hair was drenched in purple paint and Ash's clothing splattered with red, they were definitely in trouble.

Ash quickly helped Red up, dashing further into the forest hand-in-hand to escape their mother's wrath, laughing heartily.
