Chapter Text
Jimin must be blind. There's no other logical explanation.
It's not about the fact he uses really thick glasses or the fact he can't see from a large distance, it's about the fact that it can’t be possible that Park Jimin hasn't noticed how every person in this school looks at him as if all of them want him as their boyfriend.
And that's a normal reaction because Jimin is Jimin .
Yoongi is sure he can name every good thing about the boy he has the privilege to call his best friend, and he's also sure he won't have enough time to enlist every single one of them.
They’ve been friends since forever, they have grown together and literally, right beside the other. Yoongi and Jimin are neighbors and even if Yoongi is two years older than Jimin, they managed to become pretty close at a young age.
Jimin is such a sweetheart; the first of his class and the president of the Students Council. He also leads the Reading Club and organizes a lot of events to promote arts in the school. He loves to dance, he's part of the Contemporary Dance team and also sings really well. Yoongi is always amazed by his best friend's skills and dedication. He doesn't know how he managed to do all those things and be the best student in the school.
Yoongi, on the other hand, doesn't complicate too much. He's just a normal student in his last year and does the best he can. He studies the necessary and the only special thing he can brag about is being the leader of the school band. He loves music and loves to play the guitar but what he loves the most is writing and composing. Everyone loves the school band, the songs and especially the fact that Jimin is their vocalist. Yoongi couldn't ask for more.
Since they know each other, the eldest knows that Jimin has something that gets your attention. He's always been so active and curious, always asking his father questions and communicating his ideas to Yoongi every chance he got. Jimin rarely accepted a ‘no’ but he knew when he had to stop, he's been very intelligent since a young age. Yoongi had always admired him.
When Jimin was ten years old, unfortunately, he had to go through the loss of his mother. She was very sick since he was born and for a while, Jimin kept asking Yoongi if it was his fault for the state of her mom. The eldest never knew how to answer and he just patted his friend's head and told him that it was no one's fault. Somehow, that helped little Jimin to feel a bit more at ease. Yoongi still remembers how his mother told him he was a good older brother to Jimin and that he should always take care of him.
Yoongi took his task very seriously.
As they grew up, Yoongi could see how Jimin became more and more interested in art; music, dance, and singing are his thing. Yoongi remembered that Mr. Park always said his wife was a ballerina when they met and maybe that's the reason why Jimin loves art so much.
Yoongi thinks it matches Jimin's personality very well.
Every person in the school wants to be around Jimin but Jimin, even if everyone thinks he's a social butterfly, in fact he's a very shy person. His only friends are Yoongi, Taehyung —a classmate from his same year— and Taehyung’s brother Seokjin. His band mates Jungkook and Hoseok who also are friends with Yoongi, matter of factly.
Yoongi thinks it is funny how the Student Council president can be so shy, but turns out that everyone finds it cute.
Jimin indeed is cute, Yoongi can say.
And he confirms it one more time when they're having lunch in the cafeteria and a group of three girls comes to say hi.
Yoongi is sitting in front of his best friend and next to him is Taehyung talking about how he thinks he's going to fail math because he can't manage to understand the topic that's going to be evaluated next week. While Taehyung rambles and Jimin tells him that he has offered his help a lot of times, Yoongi sees how the group of girls approach where they're sitting.
A girl is encouraging the other to get close but one of them takes the girl's arm and practically drags her to the table.
One of the girls catches Yoongi's look and her face turns completely red.
Taehyung is about to cry when the girl that dragged her friend talks.
“Sorry to interrupt your conversation,” Taehyung stops his acting and Jimin turns to face the girls, he bows and smiles politely.
“Hi, Jimin-ssi,” The dragged girl whispers and Jimin gives her a warm smile while fixing his glasses.
“Seungjae is forming a study group and she wanted to ask if you are interested in being part of it”.
She has to be Seungjae wordsmith, Yoongi thinks. She's a lot more confident and is very straightforward in communicating what her friend can't. That's a funny analogy.
Jimin's cheeks turn into a pretty rosy red. Looks like he doesn't know how to answer but Yoongi knows he wants to politely reject them. Yoongi gets back to his food and asks Taehyung if he's going to eat his sausages.
“Um…” Jimin mumbles. “I wish I could join you guys, but I'm not sure if I will have enough time to be part of it, the Winter Festival is closer.”
Jimin's answer sounds very genuine, as if he really wanted to be part of it and for a moment he regrets being just one Jimin. Yoongi can't believe his best friend.
Disappointment appears in Seungjae’s eyes and her friend opens her eyes wide. She probably can't believe she's been rejected by Park Jimin, oh well, her friend (who seems to be pretty sweet and friendly) has been rejected by him. Maybe their plan isn't working as they expected.
“Oh, that's okay, Jimin-ssi,” Seungjae tells him with her very shy tone but doesn't sound upset at all. She's good at hiding her feelings in her voice but not in her eyes.
Seungjae's friend furrows her eyebrows and Seungjae takes her by the arm and bows politely to them. She's the one dragging her friend now out of their sight.
Jimin turns back to his food but he looks a bit guilty. Taehyung chuckles and Jimin looks at him with a frown.
“Do you really wanted to be in another group, Chim?” Taehyung asks in disbelief.
“I don't like to reject people, Tae, and they've been so nice for asking me”.
“It really looked like Ria wanted to kill you. Are you sure you weren't afraid of saying no for her?”
Yoongi laughs and places the half of a sausage on Jimin's plate. The youngest mumbles a thank you and he eats it.
“You shouldn't feel guilty for saying no sometimes, Mimi,” Jimin looks up to watch his hyung speak. “You are allowed to say no when you can't and when you actually don't want to. You don't have to pressure yourself onto something you're not comfortable or trying to always be available for everyone”.
Jimin hums to his hyung’s words and Taehyung nods in agreement to every word Yoongi said.
“See? I told you the same before but you only listen to Yoongi hyung”.
Taehyung pretends to be hurt but the other two laugh at his antics.
“Hey, Chim, are you coming to my brother's birthday this Saturday, right? Mom said she would cook kimchi jjigae apart from the miyeokguk for Jin hyung and Yoongi hyung already confirmed his attendance”.
“Yes! I don't have dance class this Saturday so I'll be on time!” Jimin sounds excited at the thought of spending time with Taehyung’s family and Yoongi loves to see Jimin so full of joy.
Jimin always drops by Yoongi's house after classes when he doesn't have council meetings or Reading Club. His dad gets home at night so he spends his afternoons with his best friend.
He helps Yoongi with his homework even though the eldest is two years ahead of him. Fun fact: he was offered to skip two courses and be the same level as Yoongi but Jimin said he had to learn according to his age because the fact that he knew some things doesn't mean he knew everything. Yoongi didn't understand him at that time, it was such a great opportunity to be ahead of his actual level but now he understands Jimin just wanted to learn like a normal boy in his sixteenths.
Yoongi is finishing his literature homework when he catches Jimin out of focus looking right through his notebook. They're sitting next to each other by Yoongi's desk. It's already winter so they can see the snow falling in the window in front of them. Yoongi pinches Jimin's cheek to get his attention but Jimin only hums.
“What happen?”
Jimin furrows his brows and tilts his head as if he's trying to figure out something. He removes his glasses for a moment, blinks a few times and puts it back on.
After a long silence he looks at his hyung.
“It’s possible someone likes me?”
Yoongi is taken aback with that question and a genuine concern forms in his head. What is Jimin thinking?
“Jimin…”
“Someone confessed, hyung”.
Yoongi is a loss of words. He had witnessed people confessing their love for Jimin with their eyes, with actions, with compliments but Yoongi knows and understands that Jimin is very oblivious, especially with this kind of topic.
Jimin wouldn't notice if someone is in love with him even if he has it in front of his nose. And Yoongi can confirm after all these years.
“Someone told me that he likes me…”
“Oh, so is a he ?” That's the first thing that comes to Yoongi's mind. It’s a he .
“Um… yeah”.
Jimin sounds very shy but most of it he sounds doubtful, a bit naive.
“Do you like him back?”
The youngest hums and he looks a bit conflicted.
“I don't think so, hyung,” He turns to see Yoongi. “I’m not sure if I ever liked someone”.
Yoongi blinks and tries to keep his eye contact with his best friend but is futile. He can't look Jimin in the eyes for too long. Not if he doesn't want to love him more than he does already. Yoongi stares at the window and focuses on the white view and how the trees look dressed in white.
The elder understands everyone at school. Jimin is so easy to love that it's ridiculous to think no one will put an eye on him. Jimin is basically a little piece of love on this Earth. It's impossible not to fall for Jimin and Yoongi knows it.
“How does it feel to like someone, Yoongi hyung?”
Yoongi doesn't know how to answer. Back in the days, he used to love all of Jimin's questions. He always asked things Yoongi knew very well. How do you use the Play Station? How do you make instant ramyeon? Can you sing the Pokerap and name all of the Pokemons?
His questions were easier before but as he grew up the questions became harder, Yoongi was afraid of answering the wrong things but he answered nevertheless. Jimin just hummed but Yoongi never knew if he was satisfied with the response. And now, he's feeling the same but the dread it's not about giving the wrong answer, instead it is about revealing his true feelings.
Jimin waits patiently for his hyung's answer and Yoongi can't stand his stare anymore, he has to look down to his notebook this time cause Jimin might be able to see his cheeks blush.
“Mmm, it's not a big deal,” Yoongi tries to sound chill, careless. “You just know it when you like someone. You can feel it”.
“Have you ever liked someone, Yoongi hyung?”
The curiosity in Jimin's voice is too genuine for his own good. Yoongi feels too vulnerable when Jimin sounds so innocent and pure.
“I guess, you could say so”.
Yoongi does his best to sound like it's not a big matter but deep down he knows that liking someone can be a really hard situation. More so if the feelings are one sided.
“What did you feel? How did you notice? Was it someone close to you?”
That's too many questions and Yoongi is just an eighteen years old boy trying to survive this scrutiny.
“I think I just knew, you know, when you see that someone you just know”.
Jimin nods in understanding but his frown says he needs more information.
“I don't remember exactly when it happened, but one day I saw this person laugh after a joke I said and somehow their smile was the only thing I could think about the next few days”.
Jimin's eyes open wide and glow with interest. Jimin watches a lot of K-dramas so he might expect something like that to happen and maybe what Yoongi is saying is making him believe that it really works like that. But, how can you blame him? Yoongi makes Jimin feel like he's in a K-drama.
“This person is very close to me but that's the reason why I never said anything”.
The tiny smile on Jimin's face drops and he looks… sad?
“Oh, hyung… when did that happen? Why did you never say anything?”
“It was a long time ago, It wasn't that serious and if I said something to someone it would become very real and I wanted to save myself the suffering”.
Yoongi laughs dryly and Jimin looks at him apologetically, Yoongi doesn't like that look on Jimin. It doesn't suit him.
“Don't worry too much about liking someone, Mimi, you will know it when that happens”.
Jimin hums and stares at his notebook again, he wants to say something but he's trying hard to find the words.
“Hyung,” He finally says. “I want to know if I like this person”.
Something tugs inside Yoongi and he wishes he could disappear now. He has to act normal.
“He's very kind and sweet to me, it's not the first time I've felt his interest for me,” Jimin bites his lips. Yoongi has to look away. “He's attentive and is always helping me and he's the first person who confesses”.
Yoongi feels a bit frustrated with that information. He wished he had been the first. But he doesn't have enough courage to sacrifice their lifetime friendship.
“You can allow yourself the opportunity to know him better,” Yoongi reasons. “But don't force yourself to like someone or feel something for someone. If you feel like something is not working or you don't feel comfortable enough, you don't have to force yourself to try it anymore. You shouldn't buy a shirt which is not your size just because it's pretty, at the end, you will end up not wearing it. It would be a shame, wouldn't it?”
Jimin smiles at Yoongi. He nods firmly and thanks his hyung while resting his head on his shoulders. Yoongi leaves a peck on his forehead as he usually does and asks Jimin if he wants to take a break to eat some cake his mom made.
Jimin agrees happily and tells him he wants to go outside to play with the snow right after they have cake. Yoongi finds endearing the love Jimin has for the winter season. Yoongi has come to the conclusion that it reminds him of his mother whose birthday was in December, and Yoongi, who doesn't like the snow that much, smiles at his best friend and tells him that they can go play with the snow whenever he wants.
They go downstairs right to the kitchen and the eldest thinks that maybe he doesn't like the idea of someone liking Jimin that much.
They spent a lot of time playing with the snow that they didn't realize that it was already dark until Jimin's dad parked in front of their house.
Mr. Park greets Yoongi as always and asks him if he wants to join them for dinner but Yoongi politely declines saying it's movie Friday with his parents.
Jimin and Mr. Park totally looks alike. Even their personalities are very similar, they're both soft spoken, understanding people, they love to help others and especially they are very caring.
Jimin's dad had always said that he is more like his mother, he's a born artist and it's just as passionate as she was. Jimin's dad told Yoongi once that he loved to listen to his son sing because he had the same voice as his mother.
Yoongi remembers little about Jimin's mom. Usually he would just see her when he went to play with Jimin at his house or when Yoongi's mother invited her in the afternoons to drink coffee. But even the days when he would go to his friend's house, Jimin's mom would always be resting in her bedroom because of her illness.
He remembered having heard Jimin's mom sing once.
Yoongi and Jimin were taking a nap in the living room after playing almost all day during their summer vacations. He remembers listening to his friend's mom sitting on the couch where they would sleep and sing for them while scratching the heads of the two little boys.
That was when Yoongi was barely seven years old. Jimin was five.
Yoongi remembers having fallen asleep again so fast after listening to her singing and he agrees completely with Jimin's dad.
Jimin's voice is angelic.
He sounds just like his mom.
“Hey, Yoongi-ah!” Jimin's dad calls him before they all go to their houses. “You have a driver's license, right?”
“Um… yes, sir”.
Jimin's dad smiles and nods. Jimin looks confused between his father and his best friend.
“Do your parents let you drive?”
“Um… they do but just short distances,” Yoongi isn't sure why his best friend's father is interviewing him about driving, he's very confused.
“Why are you asking that, dad?”
Mr. Park gets closer to them to not speak so loud and hugs his son from the shoulders. He asks Jimin in a whisper if he's not feeling cold and his son answers with a shake of his head.
“You're going to Taehyung’s tomorrow too, right?” Yoongi nods still confused. Their parents know they’re all friends with Seokjin hyung too. “I was wondering if you could drive Jimin there tomorrow cause I won't be here and I can't drop him off”.
“Dad, but I can take the bus!” Jimin is a bit ashamed of the request.
“I will lend you my car, Yoongi-ah! I don't want you two to travel with this weather on the bus”.
Yoongi isn't so sure how to answer. His parents already told him he has to take the bus because they won't be home tomorrow either, so Mr. Park's offer doesn't sound so bad at all. Plus, traveling with Jimin in a car sounds pretty good!
“Taehyung's home is close so I have to ask my parents if they would let me drive,” Yoongi answers shyly.
“Oh, don't worry about that! I already asked them. They just wanted me to tell you”.
Yoongi's eyes go comically wide and Jimin snorts at the elder’s face, he knows Yoongi doesn't know what to say. It's kind of cute.
“Uh… okay” Yoongi mumbles and Jimin's dad just pats his shoulder as a goodbye and tells Jimin to come inside for dinner.
It's just the two of them again.
“Well, I will be ready at 11 o’clock”, Jimin starts walking inside Yoongi's house to gather his things and go his own. “Don’t oversleep or I will go to your room and beat you awake”.
Yoongi just gives him an amused chuckle and they make their way inside the house.
“Jimin, the car keys are in the kitchen island. Text me when you arrive at Taehyung's home!”
Jimin hears his dad yell from downstairs in the living room. His dad had planned to visit Jimin's grandparents this weekend and his aunt (his dad's sister) is already outside the house to pick him up. Jimin was getting himself ready when he heard the engine of his aunt's car and that made him go out from his room to say goodbye to his dad.
“‘Kay, dad! Be careful on your way you two! I love you!”
Jimin's dad waves at him with a big smile on his face before crossing the front door and Jimin waves goodbye from the second floor. He hears the car go and sighs. Well, it's almost 11am and Yoongi hasn't called.
It's not too late when someone's knocking on the door. Jimin looks at the clock on the wall and goes downstairs to see who it is. He's greeted by a sleepy and handsome Yoongi. His dark brown hair looks fluffiest than usual. Jimin thinks it suits him a lot.
“Hyung, it's almost midday and you're still sleepy?”
Yoongi frowns and arches an eyebrow. He yawns and Jimin laughs telling him to come inside.
“Jimin, it's Saturday morning, it's not fair nor human waking up before 10 am”.
“You can't be for real”.
“Oh, I am”, Yoongi goes to sit right on a stool in the kitchen island and deflates as if he's been shut down on the spot.
“I remind you, my dearest friend,” Jimin walks to grab a glass of water and leaves it right next to his friend. “You have to drive”.
“That's the worst part,” The elder’s voice sounds muffled from where he's hiding, Jimin brings a hand to his back and soothes him. “You would have to play the noisiest playlist you have to keep me awake”.
Jimin laughs endeared. Yoongi's such a funny and cute person. “Yoongi hyung, it's just a fifteen minute drive”.
Yoongi grunts and gets up. He finds the glass of water next to him and thanks his friend in a soft voice. Jimin nods with a small smile and watches his friend drink his water calmly.
Jimin takes his cell phone from his pocket and starts scrolling through his music app searching for the perfect playlist to his trip.
At first, Yoongi wasn't too satisfied with Jimin's choice of music and they were bickering until Jimin said he would stop the music. Yoongi knew that Jimin wasn't truly angry and the pout on Jimin's lips was just part of his tantrum.
“Jimin, stop sulking,” Yoongi chuckled softly, giving his friend a small look.
“I am not,” Jimin retorts.
“Yes, you are”.
“No”.
“But you're pouting”.
“Says who?”
“Your lips”.
“And why are you looking at my lips? You should be looking your way, you're driving!”.
When being called out, Yoongi felt self conscious of what Jimin said. Indeed, he wasn't just looking at him, he was looking at his pretty, soft and rosy pout.
“Just put the music back,” Yoongi whispered, feeling shy out of sudden.
At that, Jimin changed his face completely and put play to the song they were listening to before. When the song ended, it changed immediately to one of Yoongi's favorites.
Jimin catches his hyung singing along to the song and snorts.
“You are really impatient, you couldn't wait to finish listening to the other songs,” Jimin crosses his arms. “Your favorite one's were next”.
Yoongi grins without looking at Jimin. He just enjoys the song and listens to Jimin sing low next to him.
“ Sweet wonderful you,” Jimin's voice sounds sweeter than usual. “ you make me happy with the things you do,”
Yoongi looks ahead, they're almost close to their friend's house but Yoongi can't ignore the fact that Jimin is singing his favorite song beautifully. He thinks that song suits him well and it would be perfect if they play it in the school band.
Sometimes Yoongi feels weird about his feelings and the fact that he had never told anyone what he really feels for Jimin. Not even his closest friend from the band, Hoseok. Even though Yoongi thinks he already suspects something.
“ Oh, can it be so?” Jimin is so pretty, Yoongi thinks. “ this feeling follows me wherever I go,”
He didn't say anything, but the reason why he was sleepy this morning was because he couldn’t sleep well. A single annoying thought running through his head: Jimin being with someone else. Even if he wanted to avoid it, he couldn’t. It wasn’t something he would just wipe off his head or act like it never happened, that was a big matter. Yoongi was taken aback when Jimin told him someone confessed to him, he didn’t expect to hear that and somehow, that broke his heart a little.
“ I never did believe in miracles,” Jimin is singing louder this time and before Yoongi notices, Jimin puts his fist in front of him imitating a microphone. “ but I’ve a feeling that it’s time to try,” Yoongi sings back to please his friend.
From one moment to another, an unsettling feeling plants in Yoongi’s heart.
Maybe he doesn’t want someone else looking at Jimin as their boyfriend.
The music continues playing and Jimin is excited singing, he moves at the rhythm of the music and he adds his own ad libs to the song. Yoongi loves it when he does that.
“I have to accept it, hyung,” Jimin turns to Yoongi, the eldest glances for a second. “You have a great taste in music, now I get why you like this band a lot”.
Yoongi just smiles and hums in agreement.
The party of Taehyung’s brother was fun and great. They were able to meet Seokjin’s boyfriend and they had to listen to Taehyung ranting about how Seokjin ignores him now that he spends too much time with Namjoon and even if Namjoon invites him to the cinema with both of them he feels awfully alone and he doesn’t like being third wheel.
Yoongi loves Taehyung, but he is closer to Seokjin given the fact that they’re the eldests, he spent more time chatting with Seokjin and Namjoon. Yoongi found out that Namjoon was just one year younger than him, just like his friend Hoseok. They talked about Yoongi’s choice to study music in University next year and Seokjin's first year of Performing Arts.
They spent a lot of time together too and they enjoyed dinner with Kim’s family.
But there was something that Yoongi couldn’t ignore.
He didn’t mean to eavesdrop but when he made his way to the bathroom, he heard Jimin and Taehyung talking in the latter’s room.
“ I don’t want to mess it up, Tae,” Jimin’s voice sounded weird. Almost sad.
“Hey, Chim, you won't! Just accept the date! You’ll find out if you like them or not”.
Yoongi felt uncomfortable listening to them talking about that topic, so when he decided to go on his way to the bathroom, new words including his name stopped him in the spot.
“ Yoongi hyung told me to not force myself into liking someone,” Yoongi grins unconsciously, he’s glad Jimin does put matter on his words. “ And I know he’s right, I don’t want to do that,”
Yoongi moves a bit closer, Taehyung’s door isn’t entirely closed but in the way he is, they can’t see him.
“ I lied to him,”
Yoongi freezes.
He lied? About what?
“I told him I’ve never liked anyone,” Jimin’s voice sounds lower, almost if he’s about to say something forbidden. “ I have, or that's what I think it is”.
“ Why didn’t you tell him you do? I mean, you know each other since you were kids” Taehyung sounds confused. Yoongi is too.
“ I’m scared, ”
“ Scared of what, Chim?”
There’s a long silence before Yoongi hears the next words.
“ What if he doesn’t like me back? ”
Someone calls Yoongi from downstairs and he jolts, afraid of being caught overhearing private conversations. He walks silently back to the living room where Seokjin called, not wanting to use the bathroom anymore.
If he was confused before, he’s completely lost right now.
They go back at night, after saying their goodbyes and congratulating Seokjin again they made their way back to their houses. The drive back home was quieter, it was barely 7pm but it was colder than earlier that day. The music Jimin played was slow ballads from his favorite’s K-dramas.
Yoongi felt something was wrong, Jimin was looking through the window and singing in whispers. Yoongi could recognize the song as one of Jimin’s favorites. He usually would sing his heart out and serenade Yoongi as always, but maybe his conversation with Taehyung put him in some kind of mood.
“Are you okay, Mimi?”
Jimin reacts as if he forgot he was in a car with Yoongi. “Uh… yeah, I’m fine”.
“You disappeared for a long moment with Taehyung at the party, did something happen?”
“I want to sing this song,” Jimin is good at avoiding topics. “In the band, just your acoustic guitar and Jungkook’s piano.”
Yongi hums. “Okay, I can get the chords for the song, send it to me, maybe we can sing it for the Winter Festival”.
Jimin now sounds more present, Yoongi knows he’s acting that way to not think bad things and avoid negative thoughts.
“Did you know that Taehyung likes Jungkook?”
Yoongi looks surprised by the revelation. Now it makes sense why Taehyung is always present at their rehearsals even if he doesn’t like the music they play. Yoongi looks at Jimin and the youngest is already looking through his specs at him with his eyes open and attentive.
Yoongi has to look away quickly or he would get lost in his eyes, and he has to take home Jimin in a safe state.
“That’s new”.
“And here’s the best part, hyung,” Jimin giggles and makes Yoongi laugh. “Jungkook does like him too!”
“Are you for real?” Yoongi is genuinely surprised. “Does Taehyung know?”
“He doesn’t, Taehyung thinks that Jungkook likes a girl from the Reading Club but I can’t tell him I know. I promised Jungkook to keep the secret.”
“So Jungkook told you?”
“Yes, last rehearsal that Taehyung couldn't go to,” Jimin looks at his phone to change the playlist. “He told me that if I could do something for Taehyung to stop coming because he gets nervous every time and gets the notes wrong”.
Yoongi laughs at the confession, that’s cute. Now he understands and feels guilty for scolding Jungkook all this time.
“That’s why I’m trying to convince Taehyung to join a club after classes,” Jimin sighs. “I don’t think it would work, so I just told Taehyung to approach Jungkook and talk to him. I told him that Jungkook is very shy but he's the sweetest boy on earth.”
“I think you are the sweetest boy on earth”.
And before he can react to his own words, he is looking at Jimin with wide eyes. Jimin is speechless.
The only thing that makes the environment bearable is Step by Step playing in the background.
They arrive home after the longest five minutes of their lives. They didn’t say anything more and Yoongi thinks that’s the worst part. Jimin could have laughed or made a joke about it but he didn’t say anything and looked actually scared. Yoongi was afraid he had said something wrong or offended him in some way. He often compliments Jimin that way, but maybe he said it with a different tone that Jimin may have misunderstood.
When Yoongi parked the car in front of Jimin’s house, they got out and Yoongi handed Jimin the car keys. He was waiting for Jimin to say something, but he looked really out of his mind.
“Are you okay, Jimin?”
Jimin looked back at him with his eyes like plates, even behind his thick glasses you could see how open they were. He had blush on his cheeks. Maybe it was the cold outside.
“Yes, totally!” Jimin turned and stopped at the same time. “Thank you for doing this favor, I own you one!”
“It’s fine, Mimi,” Yoongi felt awkward. “Goodnight, I guess”.
He didn’t receive any response and when he turned to go to his house Jimin’s voice stopped him.
“Would you like to have a sleepover? I don’t wanna sleep alone tonight”.
Something in Yoongi’s heart burned. They've had many sleepovers before, it was nothing new, especially when Jimin’s dad had to go for more than two days to his parents. Jimin’s dad would be back tomorrow morning but Yoongi doesn’t like the idea of Jimin being alone either so without thinking twice, he was walking right to Jimin’s house.
“I’ll text my mom,” Yoongi said, taking his phone from his pocket.
Jimin smiled and nodded making their way inside the house.
They cuddle, of course they do.
Jimin needed to hug something when sleeping and in every sleepover, Yoongi was the happy victim of Jimin’s habit. Jimin would snake his arms around Yoongi's waist and rest his head on his best friend's chest. Yoongi would hide his nose in Jimin’s hair and breathe the sweet scent of the youngest. Jimin smells like citrus, a combination between lime and tangerine. Yoongi loves it.
Jimin is thinner than Yoongi and his weight next to him feels almost feather-like. They’re wrapped under the thick sheets cause it’s still too cold, Yoongi is lost in his thoughts when he feels Jimin throwing his leg over his hip. That’s something new, Jimin had never done that before. Yoongi doesn’t know how to react.
He doesn’t loosen his grip around Jimin’s shoulders though but he knows he’s a bit tense.
And Jimin seems to notice.
“Are you okay with this, hyung?” He mumbles, he’s sleepy.
Yoongi doesn’t think too much before answering.
“Yes, I’m completely fine”.
“Hmm,” Jimin presses Yoongi closer, even if they are impossible close right now. “I’m glad”.
There's a comfortable silence around them.
“Will you stay til the sunrise?” Jimin whispers, too close to fall asleep.
Yoongi doesn't find the question odd, in fact, he's amused by it. Jimin always says nonsense when he's sleepy. Yoongi just goes with the flow.
“I'll stay, don't worry. You'll find me here”.
And just like that, Yoongi falls asleep with Jimin in his arms.
