Work Text:
MK hates Christmas.
Firstly, her birthday was literally on Christmas Day, meaning whenever people bought her presents they would always buy one “combined” gift instead of two separate ones.
Secondly, and most importantly, she’s forced to spend time at the dinner table with her family. How fun.
MK sat on the large beanbag in her room, playing some dumb mobile game. After losing an easy level of the stupid game, she put her phone down and stood up. She pulled back her curtain, letting some of light leak in. She peeked out the window. The air was crisp and fresh, the kind that made her nose sting. She looked down below - snow coated the bushes and trees, and the pavements and roads were gravelled. The road was empty for once - normally there were kids playing in the snow at this time, but they were nowhere to be seen. The ravenette pulled her head away from the window swiftly, sitting down on the edge of her bed.
She checked her phone, looking at the date. It was her birthday tomorrow - the 25th of December. Christmas Day. How lucky. She expected the day to go the same way it always went. She rolled back onto her bed, staring at the ceiling.
Maybe speaking to Julia would help.
Julia was her- well, she wasn’t sure, really. MK felt something between them, especially after the finale. Whilst everyone celebrated Wayne’s win on the boat ride home, MK held Julia in her arms whilst the latter sobbed. Everything she had done in the competition had led to nothing. Naturally, due to Julia’s behaviour (which MK didn’t even find that bad - she was just playing the game!), people stayed well away from her too. Other than Scary Girl, who would sneak up behind her and creepily crack her neck. She seriously considered getting a restraining order against that girl.
Neither of the girls were necessarily upset that they were outcasts - MK didn’t mind the solitude and Julia was more upset that she’d lost 100k to a guy who’d thought it was a grand idea to fight a cassowary in the previous season.
They’d maintained some contact ever since they’d made it back home, even meeting up a few times. Every time they met up, MK spent a lot of the time studying the way Julia acted; from the way her eyes darted around when she would speak to her, the way she seemed to casually flirt with her but get immediately flustered if MK slightly touched her. The ravenette had even given her one of her beanies for a brief period of time before Julia had been able to get her hair fixed. It was a stylised mullet now, and even though Julia said she hated it, MK thought it was pretty cute. She asked her mom if she could get a mullet too, but her mom always said no. She shot up from her bed and stuck her head out of her door, unsure of where her mom currently was.
“MOOOOM!” She yelled.
“Yes, Mary Kate?” Her mom responded.
“Can I get a mullet-”
“No, we’ve discussed this a million times.” Her mom sternly said, and the ravenette rolled her eyes and shut her door.
Perhaps I should go back for season 3 and get my hair ripped by a dinosaur, She thought as she threw herself back onto her bed. She reopened the mobile game and played it some more, wasting the minutes away. Maybe she would go to sleep and sleep through her birthday and Christmas. Possibly.
*******
“Get up, MK!”
MK was woken up by her annoying little brother, Levi, pulling the duvet off her bed and yelling in her face.
“Get off.” She groaned, shoving him aside. Her eyes rapidly blinked, trying to adjust to the bright light that came through the window. She had not been planning to get up early.
“Mom says there’s a friend here. Is it that influencer gir-”
The ravenette practically jumped out of bed. What was Julia doing here? It was way too early! Well, early for her at least. According to her mom, waking up at 10.00 was super late. She staggered down the stairs and saw her mom in the kitchen.
“Nice to see you finally show yourself.” She sarcastically said.
“Huh?” MK frowned.
“Not in a mood for jokes, then?” She giggled, turning back to whatever she was doing. “Anyway, your friend’s at the door.”
MK went to the front door and opened it, and she saw Julia standing with a box in her hands. She was trying to act nonchalant, and failing - despite her body looking relaxed, her eyes were doing that darting thing again.
“*What* are you doing here at this ungodly time?” The shorter girl hissed.
“Damn, not even a ‘hello’,” Julia snorted. She held out the box. “Happy birthday.”
“Thanks.” She gave her a small smile and took the box. She opened the box and inside there was a new, forest green beanie.
”’Cause you look like you need a new one.”
Wow. That was backhanded. She gave her a scowl and put the beanie on top of her own beanie.
“Can I come in?” She mouthed. The black haired girl nodded and Julia shuffled inside the small house. She couldn’t help but wish that Julia had given her a little warning before showing up.
“Would you like some breakfast?” MK’s mom asked. MK snorted at the fact that her mom hadn’t even offered her any breakfast.
“I’m alright, thanks.” She politely said.
They stood awkwardly for a second before MK spoke.
“Uhh… me and Julia are gonna go upstairs.”
Her mom frowned. “You’re not gonna have bre-”
“Nah, I’m okay.” She quickly said, grabbing Julia’s hand and rushing to her room. She knew they were going to try to speak to Julia for ages, so she wanted to get her out of there before they could.
MK threw herself onto her bed as soon as she stepped inside her room, and Julia sat on the edge of the bed. Immediately after the door shut, the shorter girl sat up.
“What are you doing here? Don’t you have Christmas to spend with your family?”
Julia shrugged. “Blaineley’s out with her friends, so we probably won’t do our Christmas stuff until later on in the day.”
They stared at each other for a couple seconds.
“…There’s a lot more snow out there than there was yesterday.” She said, shuffling closer to MK.
“Fuck.” She sighed.
She wished it wasn’t snowing, because she knew what was going to happen - her mom was going to ask her to take Levi out to play in the snow. Maybe she’d be able to get away with not doing it because Julia was here.
“What?” Julia asked.
“My brother is definitely gonna want to-”
There was a knock at her bedroom door. Great.
“MK?” Her mom said.
The beanie-wearing girl let out a long sigh before getting off her bed and going to her door.
“Yeah?” She wearily said, knowing what she was about to ask her.
“Would you be able to take your brother out for a bit? I need to cook lunch, and he keeps on coming into the kitchen! I shouldn’t be long.”
MK rolled her eyes. “Your version of long is different to mine.” For her, a long period of time with her younger brother was more than five minutes.
“I should be a couple of hours.”
“A couple of hours???”
Her mom smiled. “You can head off in, like, ten minutes.” She closed the door before MK could get a word in.
“I DIDN’T EVEN SAY YES!” MK screamed at the closed door. Well, shit. That was yet another plan infiltrated. She turned to Julia, who was on her phone. Julia probably wouldn’t like being dragged down with this stupid plan.
“Is that why you didn’t want it to be snowing today?” She said.
“Yeah.” MK wouldn’t have been surprised if Julia said she wanted to go home - she would do the same if she was in her shoes.
“I’m fine with going out.”
MK paused. “What, really?”
“Yeah, gets us out of this landfill of a room.”
“What?!” The ravenette hissed and the blonde giggled.
“I’m just kidding… but on a serious note, your room is giving those rooms you see on r/insanemalelivingspaces on Reddit.”
MK snorted. “Hey, not too much now!” She walked over to the girl, pulling her up by the arms. “Let’s get going then, before my mom comes and drags me down.” She let go of the taller girl, picked up a pair of baggy jeans from the floor and dashed out of her room.
Julia’s eyes followed the shorter girl until the door closed. She lightly touched her skin, where MK had grabbed her. Her heart did an annoying little flip. She shook her head like a dog and left the bedroom.
*******
MK and Julia were sat on the doorstep, waiting for Levi. MK had her black puffer jacket on, and Julia was wearing her pink fur-trimmed coat. They waited in a comfortable silence. The ravenette found herself leaning into the crook of the taller girl’s neck. She instantly felt the other girl’s body tense up.
“Should we just go? I think Levi’s left her alone now.” She whispered, and Julia jerked back.
“Sorry, that kinda tickled.” She said, rubbing her neck. “What did you say?”
“I said should we just go? ‘Cause I think Levi’s left her alone now.”
“I don’t mind.” Julia shrugged. “Sitting with you here is fine with me.” She paused. “In- in the sense that-”
MK laughed. Watching the girl stumble over her words over something that wasn’t that deep was quite funny. She rose to her feet, pulling the other girl up with her. They started to walk away from her house, their fingers still interlocked. Both of them were wearing gloves, but felt like they were clutching onto each other’s warm hands.
“Where do you wanna go? No places are open, duh, but we can still go to the p-”
“MARY KATE!”
Fuck.
MK let out another sigh and slowly turned around to see her mom shooting eye-daggers at her.
“You didn’t think I noticed you, right?” She sternly said. Levi was stood next to her in a ten-sizes-too-big puffer jacket that made him look like a red marshmallow.
“Don’t try and deceive me again, Mary Kate.” Her mom tutted and headed back inside. MK stuffed her hands in her pockets and stomped over to her little brother.
“Yeah, Mary Kate.” Julia mockingly said, her arms crossed.
“Oh, shut the FUCK up!” She yelled at the blonde as she took her little brother by the arm. Levi grumbled something, and she couldn’t be bothered to ask him to elaborate. She let go of his arm and stood next to Julia, who was still giggling over her angry reaction.
“Levi, how long did mom say she was gonna be?”
“She said it would be almost three hours, because she’s got a ‘surprise’.”
“God, can’t the ‘surprise’ be that we can go home??” She groaned.
Julia held her hand. “It’s okay, the time will probably go by fast.”
MK wanted it to go quickly, so she could get back into the comfort of her room. But she also wanted to spend every minute with Julia.
Weird.
*******
MK hitched up her jeans as they trodded through the thick snow that covered the park. She turned her head to see Julia a few metres behind, struggling to walk through the snow.
“How are you guys walking through this so easily?” She whined, almost stumbling over as she held up her jeans.
“Fine, I’ll come save you.” The black haired girl playfully rolled her eyes and trekked over to her. She held Julia’s arm with one hand and her waist with the other, practically dragging her through the snow. The park was completely empty other than the three of them, and MK was convinced she could hear the girl’s heart thumping in her chest.
“God, you’re heavy.” MK grumbled as they sat down at a bench.
“WHAT?” Julia gasped.
“I mean, you practically went limp on me. Acting as if you’d died.” She snorted, leaning back on the bench. Levi appeared to be in the process of making a snowman - he was rolling an increasingly large ball of snow around the area.
“We look like we’re his moms.” She said to Julia, who softly giggled.
MK looked at the blonde. Her eyes were focused on her fidgeting hands.
A devious thought crept into MK’s mind.
She thought about all the times where Julia would hold her arms, hold her face, almost kissing her.
Two could play at that game. She smirked to herself as she snaked her arm behind Julia, softly touching her shoulder. Once again, she felt the girl tense up. She wanted to say something, but knew it would probably sound cringy. She bit her tongue and tilted her head back. She felt Julia twirl some of her dark hair around her gloved finger. She could tell that she was trying to be nonchalant, but she was failing. Of course.
*******
MK was unsure of how long they’d been sitting there for - she hadn’t checked her phone since they’d arrived at the park. Levi was on the second part of the snowman, slowly rolling a slightly smaller ball of snow. Julia was scrolling through her phone, her head on the ravenette’s lap. Every now and then, MK would flick her ear or something, which naturally irritated her. She gazed down at her.
“You know I hate Christmas, right?” She quietly said.
“Huh?” Julia muttered, looking up.
“Haven’t I told you?”
Julia paused. “You probably did, I just can’t remember. Why though?”
MK scoffed. “The dreaded Christmas Dinner conversations. I can’t get through a single Christmas dinner without either of my parents bringing up ‘relationships’ and shit.”
She wanted to slap herself in her face. She hated bringing up anything to do with relationships when talking to Julia - it always led to awkward moments. She hoped that the other girl hadn’t been paying attention.
“What, are they curious or something?” She asked.
Fuck. She’d really gotten herself stuck in this conversation now.
“Very. I think they think I’m dating someone in secret.”
“I wonder who that could be.” Julia oh-so-quietly mumbled.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
MK frowned, looking back up at the sky. Was it going to start snowing again soon? She hoped not.
She thought about what Julia had quietly said. The blonde was right - it was quite obvious who her parents thought she was dating. From the fact they emphasised the word “friend” when speaking about her, to the looks they gave her whenever she spoke about the girl. But that didn’t mean she was ready to tell them anything - not like there was anything to tell. She wondered if Julia was going to kiss her one day, or if she would have to make the dastardly move first.
“I think my aunt thinks I’m a lesbian.”
MK snorted at the random thing Julia said.
“How come?”
Julia lifted her head off her lap and sat straight up. She looked at the ravenette, locking eyes for what seemed like the first time ever.
“I don’t know! She’s been kinda weird around me ever since I got back home.” Julia sighed.
“Maybe it’s because you said ‘hey girlfriend’ on international TV.” She laughed.
The blonde’s face went a strange shade of red. “What?! I meant that in the friend way-”
The ravenette was almost dying at the girl’s poor attempt to stay calm, but she couldn’t stop the butterflies flurrying in her stomach. She had a weird feeling, as if she was about to be sick, a feeling she’d never had before.
“It’s okay, we all know what you meant, especially Chris.” She continually teased, poking her in the chest.
“Stop it!” She frowned, pushing her hand away.
Julia felt her face heating up to 199 degrees. In fact, it felt like her whole body was burning. This wasn’t normal. This wasn’t right. She couldn’t keep her eyes off MK. Her dark eyes were sparkling and she had a devious smirk on her face. She was deliberately teasing her and, fuck, it was working.
Every day she wished she’d kissed MK on the Dock of Shame.
“Uhhh, Julia? Earth to Julia?”
MK waved her hand in front of the girl’s face. She shot up, alert, as if she’d been shocked with electricity.
“What?”
“You were staring at me so dreamily.” She chuckled.
“Um, no I wasn’t??” Julia protested.
“Awwww, the Ruthless Julia is actually a lovesick puppy!” MK mocked, leaning so close to the other girl their noses were practically touching. God, her beautiful eyes were moving at a thousand miles an hour.
The smaller girl slowly pulled away from her, keeping her eyes on her. Hmph. That seemed like a perfect opportunity to kiss her, but neither of them took the chance.
From the corner of her eye, she saw Julia slip off her gloves. She was startled when the blonde took off one of her gloves too.
“Jules, my hands are gonna get cold…” She quietly said. Julia didn’t say a word, and instead silently held her gloveless hand. Neither of them said anything for a minute or so.
“God, are you gonna keep on flirting or are you gonna kiss me?” MK snickered.
Julia mumbled something inaudible, her hand still holding the ravenette’s.
“Hm-?”
MK was cut short by Julia pulling her by her puffer jacket and kissing her. The black haired girl found herself pulling away, startled.
“Oh.” Julia dejectedly muttered.
“No, sorry, I just didn’t expect that.”
That was kind of a lie. She’d been deliberately flirting with her the whole time, but she supposed when she ACTUALLY kissed her, it threw her off a bit. She was pretty sure Julia knew she wasn’t telling the truth too.
The blonde put her arms over her shoulders and pulled her into a tight hug.
“I didn’t mean to jump back like that… I’ve just never kissed anyone before.” MK said into her ear.
“Whaaaat? Really?” Julia sarcastically said.
“Yeah, you’d never expect that.” She jokingly quipped back.
The blonde planted a sweet kiss on her lips, and the beanie-wearing girl pulled back once again.
“Does this mean we’re truly…”
“Girlfriends?”
“BFFS!”
“Shut the fuck up.”
Julia held the girl’s face to hers as she left a long kiss on her lips. It was sweet, passionate, a kiss like no other (well, for Julia at least. There were no expectations for MK since this was her first kiss). MK let her hands trail to Julia’s waist and she held her tight, not wanting their lips to separate.
Wow, She thought as the girl ran her hand through her dark hair. This is fucking awesome.
Julia started pecking tiny kisses across her face, jawline and neck. They tickled so much to the point where MK almost fell right out of her arms.
Time had stood still. They didn’t care about anything else. Nothing else mattered in that moment other than them-
“Hey! Can you two get a room?!”
MK snapped out of her kissing trance at record speed, her hands still around Julia’s waist. Suddenly, Levi hurled a snowball so fast that it hit his sister right in the face like a bullet. Ow.
She wiped the snow out of her face and spat out the bits that had landed in her mouth.
“What the fuck??” The black haired girl jumped up and scooped up a large amount of snow. She charged through the snow towards her little brat of a brother.
“You little-” She dumped the snow directly into his jacket hood and put the hood on his head, leading to him screeching so loud birds probably dropped dead from the sky. She clasped her hand over his mouth.
“Shut up! You’re causing a scene!”
“But there’s no one here.” He said, muffled from her hand. “Well, other than that girl you were kissing.”
MK rolled her eyes. “I meant that people would start showing up because of your screaming. And you can’t mention anything about me and Julia, okay? Keep your mouth zipped.” She hissed.
Levi looked up at her. “Can we have a snowball fight?”
She sighed. “Well, it looks like you’ve already started one, so I suppose I can continue it.” She bent down and started gathering some snow, her ungloved hand numb.
“Jules!” She called.
“Yeah?”
“Can you come help me here? I also need my glove back!”
Julia stood up and plodded over to the girl and her brother.
“Hey MK’s girlfriend.” Levi said, giving her a small wave. She waved back, and he pointed towards his snowman. “D’you like it?”
Julia took a long look at the snowman. It was more like 3 balls of snow with a stick stabbed in its face.
“Shit.” MK folded her arms.
“It’s… nice!” Julia cheesily grinned.
Levi smiled back, seemingly oblivious.
The ravenette moulded her snowball and threw it at Levi without warning, almost knocking him over like a bowling pin.
“That’s not fair!” He shrieked.
“You literally said we were having a snowball fight.”
“Nah, I agree with him. I think that wasn’t fair.”
“Now why are you taking HIS side- WHAT ARE YOU DOING??” MK screeched as Julia swept her off her feet.
“Put! Me! Down!” She yelled as
“I guess going through hell and back on Total Drama paid off.” The blonde said, putting the smaller girl down.
“What, ‘cause you found me?” MK smirked, poking her nose.
“I was gonna say because it made me physically stronger, but whatever.” She pulled out her phone from her pocket, taking a picture of the shorter girl.
“Hey!” She snapped, but it was too late. Julia had already taken the picture and was typing a caption.
“Love… this… evil little… lesbian… loser.” She said as she tapped away on her phone.
“Is that for your three followers to see?”
“Shut up.” She muttered, kissing MK’s forehead.
Levi let out an exaggerated groan. “Can we actually have a snowball fight?! I don’t wanna watch you two kissing each other the whole time.” He picked up some snow and threw it at the girls.
“Yuck!” Julia spluttered, bending down and making a snowball. “Game on.”
The blonde tossed the snowball at Levi. MK picked up some snow and hit Julia with it. She wanted to laugh in her face, but had to run when she saw her little brother rolling up a large amount of snow.
“Hey, hey, wait-”
Her brother chucked the heap of snow at her, knocking her straight into the snow.
But she lifted her head and laughed. This, funnily enough, was the most fun she’d had in a while.
*******
“How long d’you think it’s been?” Julia asked. The three of them were lying on their backs in the snow, staring at the clear sky.
“No clue.” MK replied, her thumb rubbing the blonde’s hand. In the time they’d been snowball fighting, it had lightly snowed and stopped snowing. MK had fallen into the snow three times, Levi had snow dunked onto his little hat twice, Julia had kissed MK five times (five times too many, according to Levi) and the snowman had been decapitated.
“You think Mom’s gonna be mad?” Levi questioned.
“She better not be. She’s the one who wanted us to come out here.” MK said, rolling her eyes.
He nodded. “I think I could stay out here all day.”
“Seriously? I don’t think I could.”
She looked at the blonde next to her. She had her eyes shut, eyelashes fluttering. Julia is a pretty cool person to hang around with, when she isn’t ruining your life,She thought, smiling to herself.
If she was speaking to herself in Season 1, and told her that she would be falling in love with the same person who maliciously got her eliminated, she would’ve laughed in her face.
She stretched her arms out, almost accidentally hitting Levi’s face in the process. “I think we should head back.”
“But I don’t want to!” The younger boy groaned, folding his arms.
“Fine, we’ll leave you here. You can be buried alive in the snow.” She laughed, scooping some snow and dropping it on his stomach. His body scrunched up as if he’d been shot. He swiftly rose from the ground and pursued after his sister. He didn’t even have any snow - he just wanted to jump on her.
Julia tentatively opened her eyes and saw the siblings chasing each other. She sat cross-legged in the snow, brushing the snow out of her hair. The past few hours had felt like a fever dream - never would she had expected to find herself lying in the snow with the girl she liked and her little brother. She stood up and ran over to the ravenette, wrapping her arms around her.
Maybe they’d stay there until the sun set and then rise again.
*******
MK pushed the door open to her house and was greeted with the stern face of her mother. Shit.
“…Heeeeyyyyy…” She grimaced. Julia and Levi poked their heads around the door.
“Gosh, we thought you’d all ran away or something!” Her mom said. “Do you know you guys were four and a half hours! It’s closer to dinner than lunch now.”
“Sorry Mrs Hoang, we were just having so much fun!” Julia apologised, her voice awfully saccharine sweet. MK turned around and saw her practically shooting daggers at Levi.
“It’s okay, we were just worried! Properly come in, you two.”
Julia and Levi shuffled inside, closing the door.
They all went to the dinner table, a small table that was just about holding itself together. MK and Levi’s dad was sat at the end of the table, taking a sip of his glass of water. Levi sat next to him and MK sat opposite. Julia sat down next to her.
The ravenette kept her hands under the table, trying her best not to stress out. She could do this. She could make it through the dinner without yelling or walking out. She felt Julia’s soft hand reach out to hers and give it a small squeeze. She felt inclined to push it away and not get distracted, but she instead held onto it. She was honestly glad to have her there.
Her mom brought around the plates of food - as soon as a plate was placed down in front of her dad, he practically attacked it like a rabid animal.
God, someone’s hungry, She thought, staring at the plate she had in front of her. She pulled her hand away from Julia and started poking at her food.
“Stop poking at your food, MK.” Her mom said. Expected. She wanted to roll her eyes, but controlled herself and chose to start cutting her turkey normally. Despite the fact that Julia was next to her, she stared straight ahead, not wanting to make eye contact with her. She knew the grating questions were gonna start soon. It was less if, and more when. In fact, she felt like they were coming very soon.
3…2…1-
“So, how’ve things been going with dating and stuff, MK?” Her dad asked.
Ughhhhhh.
“Um, fine. Thanks.” She said, stabbing her turkey with her fork. She planned to keep her answers short and sweet, as always.
“Found any guy?” He continued.
Her mind froze. The words she had planned to say had slipped right off her tongue. Fuck. She subtly reached out to Julia again, who held onto her hand tightly.
“MK?” He asked.
“Yeah?”
“I asked if you’ve found any guy.”
“Oh- uhh, no.”
“Ahh, I see.” He frowned, taking a sip of his drink. “You see, me and your mom are starting to think you might be a-” He drastically lowered his voice. “Lesbian.”
Her mom gave him a sharp look. She could feel her body heating up. This was getting bad. She felt like she was going to crack. She squeezed Julia’s hand so tight she felt the girl’s hand tense.
She let out a nervous laugh. “Why would you think that?”
He shrugged. “Just a theory. Not accusing you of anything.”
She loosened her grip slightly, but she was still petrified. It wasn’t over yet.
Right at that moment, a Brussel sprout rolled off Levi’s plate and under the table. He crouched under to pick it up - and her mom looked under the table too.
Fuck. She thought, pulling her hand away from Julia as quickly as possible. Her mom had a look on her face that screamed “I know”.
God, she was about to say something, wasn’t she?
Her dad took another long sip of his drink. “Well, MK. We just want you to be happy, boyfriend or not.”
Ughhhhhh. The words “boyfriend”, “guy” and “he” were pissing her off. The words were turning into slush. She didn’t want to hear another word, but knew she couldn’t just get up and leave. Even though she really, really wanted to. She just needed to tell them the truth. Get it off her chest. Maybe they would leave her alone then.
“Honey, are you alright? You haven’t said anything.” MK’s mom asked.
“I’m lesbian.” She quickly mumbled, so quiet that she wasn’t even sure if they’d heard it. She wished that she could text Julia under the table, but her mom was strict about them using their phones at the table.
“Pardon?” Her mom said.
Hm. She hadn’t heard her. Perhaps she could back out now and make up something.
No. She was going to do this. She didn’t want to have Julia as a little secret.
The ravenette coughed and took a deep breath. Her heart was thumping.
“I’m a lesbian.”
The silence that followed was painful. Fuck. Why had she done that?? Was her mom going to tut at her and express her disappointment? Was her dad going to flip out? Was Julia going to be annoyed if a fight broke out, and not want to be with her anymore? Her mind clouded. She wanted someone to speak so badly.
Her mom stood up and tucked in her chair. She never got up in the middle of eating. She walked over to the black haired girl. Her heart was practically falling out of her chest - her mom’s face was totally emotionless, she couldn’t tell what words were going to come out of her mouth.
It took her aback when her mom wrapped her arms around her. MK’s hands cautiously embraced her.
“Oh, honey, thank you for telling us…” She smiled, her arms still around her. MK took a look at her dad. He swallowed some of his food before speaking.
“So we were right then?” He said, and she couldn’t help but snort at his comment. Probably one of the worst things to say to someone who just came out, but it was miles better than having him yell or anything.
“One more thing, by the way,” MK said. “I might be dating someone.”
“Wonder who that could be.” The girl next to her said, jokingly rolling her eyes whilst doing the forbidden act of using her phone at the table.
“I’m surprised you didn’t tell us earlier,” Her mom said, heading back to her seat. “I mean, maybe we should’ve been able to tell from the way you two looked at each other on Season 2.”
“Mom!”
“Whatttt?!”
As her parents started talking about something random, the ravenette let out a large sigh of relief. It was done, finally. She looked at her brother, who was intensely staring at his roast potatoes. He saw her staring and looked up.
“I kept it quiet, and you ended up telling anyway! You had me thinking I was gonna have to keep that silent forever!” He scowled.
“I had a change of heart.”
*******
“Thank god that’s over.” MK said, lying back on her bed.
“D’you think they’ll stop pestering you now?” Julia asked.
She scoffed. “No. If anything, it’ll probably get worse, but not in a painfully awkward way. They’re probably gonna want to know everything about you.”
That was funny, because she’d already told her parents a lot about Julia. The extensive questions were going to flood in.
The shorter girl rolled on the bed, facing Julia. She cupped her face and gave her a long kiss on the lips. She felt both of them smiling, which filled her with serotonin.
The blonde checked her phone and almost leapt off the bed when she saw the time.
“Shit! I’ve gotta be at my aunt’s in, like, twenty minutes.”
“Oh shit, completely forgot about that.” MK laughed, rolling off the bed. Julia essentially threw herself down the stairs, catching the attention of MK’s mom.
“Is everything okay?” She asked, concerned.
“Yeah, Julia’s just gotta go now.” MK said, rushing to the blonde at the door. She threw her arms around her.
“This is definitely going to be a Christmas to remember.” She whispered into the taller girl’s ear.
“Definitely… I almost don’t want to go to my aunt’s now.” She sighed.
“Don’t. Stay here.”
“I can’tttt…” She dejectedly said, brushing the shorter girl’s hair out of her face and kissing her forehead. “See you soon, girlfriend.” She smirked and moved away.
MK didn’t move from where she was, keeping her eyes on Julia, until she was completely out of view.
Bring on Season 3, She thought, closing the door. We’re taking it.
