Clark starts investigating Bruce Wayne as he suspects that he is living some form of double life: no one that stupid and vapid can also run such a tight ship like Wayne Enterprises. When he asks Wayne about this at a charity event after being roped into a poker game with the wealthiest men in Gotham, he is invited to an interview at Wayne Manor. On his way home, he is accosted by Batman as Clark Kent who vaguely warns him to stay away from the Big Three and that he was sent to escort him home. Clark interviews Bruce the next morning, trying to throw him off by implying that he's funding Batman, and has some sway over him, since he thinks Bruce is the one who sent Batman after him. What Clark doesn't expect, is for Bruce to drop the act and he accidentally gets him to reveal his secret identity. When Clark tries to return the favor, Bruce stops him. They end up with an arrangement, with Clark acting as the "go-between" for Batman and Superman if they need to exchange information while Clark and Bruce grow more intimate. After Bruce spends a night and day recovering from a gunshot wound in Clark's apartment, their relationship escalates into a kiss and Clark realizes he can no longer keep his identity a secret if has any hope of this going anywhere for real.
