𝙎𝙏𝘼𝙍𝙏 𝙊𝙁 𝙀𝙋𝙄𝙇𝙊𝙂𝙐𝙀
Cold nights were not as common in Death City as one might think, normally the air was warm and thick. However, this night seemed to be different, this time the air carried a bone-piercing coldness.
—"Ugh- why are we doing this so late?! Couldn't we have left it till tomorrow?"—
-"Don't worry, sis! I'll keep you warm!"-
On a rooftop stood up our (new) shibuyen students. They consisted of two weapons, the shorter one who was hugging the older one, who was visibly shivering from the cold of the night. Both wore the same uniform of red tops with jeans and white ties
Ahead of them was a young black-haired boy, completely unmoved by the cold breeze. Unlike the girls, he wore a simple black suit, accessorised with white lines that matched the ones on his head.
-"Im afraid not Liz, it's not every day you get to percieve the soul of a witch"- Kid commented, much to the disgrace of Liz, the taller one.
-'𝘚𝘵𝘪𝘭𝘭... 𝘪𝘵'𝘴 𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦, 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘭 𝘥𝘰𝘦𝘴𝘯'𝘵 𝘴𝘦𝘦𝘮 𝘵𝘰 𝘣𝘦 𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘭𝘺 𝘰𝘧 𝘢 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘤𝘩, 𝘣𝘶𝘵 𝘳𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘧 𝘢-'- Before he could even finish his thought, a thud was heard up ahead of them.
-"EEK! WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?"- Liz exclaimed in agitation, holding tightly to her little sister's arms, who couldn't help but laugh at her reaction.
-"It must be her... "- muttered Kid, then turned his head towards the two girls and put a finger to his lips. Indicating for them to be completely silent. Both nodded, one more gesturing than the other.
They began to walk slowly but precisely, Kid had taken the lead in guiding them towards the soul trail. On the way, the student realized that perhaps they should have searched in the streets for her, that way they could have used the walls as a hiding place, and while they were at it, they wouldn't have had one of their weapons flickering in the cold...
Nothing could be done about it now, as getting off the roof would take too long plus the possible noise it would bring, every factor, as small as it could be, could alert the witch.
It didn't take them long to follow the witch's trail, thanks to the young shinigami's incredible perception. Within minutes they were within a striking distance of where the witch was supposed to be. However, Kid didn't seem to see her anywhere and was ready to curse himself for letting her escape until he heard a shout coming from Liz.
-"AH- Look! There she is!"- she exclaimed, pointing to the sky, Kid followed her finger and that's when... he saw her.
Right in front of the smiling moon, being dazzled by all its brightness. There was a young girl not much more than his own age sitting on an ordinary broom. Not very "witchy" if you ask him. What was completely witchy was the rest of her appearance, from her white cap with gold tints, which Kid could have sworn he mistook for moonlight, to the rest of her costume that seemed to match the rest of her outfit.
Finally there was her hair, tied back in two pigtails that swayed in the slight breeze of the air. All that was the description Kid could get from just looking at her back.
Still the only thing he seemed to get from it was the fact that she was...
-''Perfectly symmetrical..."- He murmured under his breath.
-"Hey Hey Hey! What was that right now?"- Liz demanded, grabbing Kid's shoulder to snap him out of this strange trance.
Kid quickly regained his composure. -"Im simply analyzing our enemy, you don't expect us to go in there without a plan, do you?"- He was able to dismisse all suspicion of his true intentions.
-'𝘉𝘶𝘵...𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘴𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘢𝘣𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘩𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘧𝘦𝘦𝘭𝘴 𝘧𝘢𝘮𝘪𝘭𝘪𝘢𝘳...'- he frowned. Already feeling like he had seen all he needed to, he slightly raised his hands to the sky. -"Liz, Patty, transform into guns."-
-"Right!"-
-"Okie-dokie!"
With weapons in both of his hands, Kid took a step forward. Being noticed immediately.
-"Thought you were just gonna stand there forever"- the blonde witch girl commented, closing the book with a loud FOP!
-"And I'm surprised you didn't attack me first"- Kid replied with a sarcastic tone.
-"Surprise attacks aren't my thing. I'd rather have a fair fight."- she turned her broom around, revealing her full-face.
Again, a feeling of familiarity invaded Kid's body, only just that he couldn't quite put his finger on what. -"Not very witch of you, I must say"- he joked once again. This would be the ideal moment to shoot but there was something inside him that stopped him from doing so. He was not the only one to think of this as his guns both shared a concerned look.
-"Dont get the wrong idea. I only say that cause when I defeat you, it will be a sweeter victory!"- She opened the book again, except this time it started to float in the air stopping on a random page. -"This is your last warning. You can either go home and leave me alone, or you can die."- The chillness in her voice could be almost if not colder than the night.
-"And let you keep attacking innocent citizens? I'm afraid I can't let that happen."- Kid forced himself into an attacking position, if his body didn't want to do it, he would have to force himself.
-"I was not doing-!"- She stopped herself, taking a deep breath as she stood up, keeping her balance on her broom -"If that's your choice... then die!"-
And with that, the battle began.
-☆-
-"Man, I still cant believe they would ditch us just like that!"-
-"Oh, Im sure they had a valid reason! Maybe something important came up"-
-"Yeah sure...Like if there is something more important than Me! Black*Star, The biggest star out there!"-
The corridors of the Shibuyen Academy were always bustling with life and students, some going to their next class or practice, and others on their way to catch whatever mission was available. In the last category were Black*Star and Tsubaki.
Unlike other juniors who were only going to the mission board. Tsubaki and Black*Star had been called to go to the hall of Lord Death himself, Death the Kid and his weapons, Liz and Patty were also supposed to go with them...as you can see that was not the case.
-"Still, didn't you have something important to tell Liz, Tsubaki?"- He turned to look at the girl next to him.
-"Ah, thats..."- Her cheeks turned pink at the mention of Liz -"...That's another thing"- She replied timidly.
-"Sure..."- He muttered suspicious of his weapon's intentions. But before he could say anything, they had reached their destination: Lord Death's door.
As soon as they entered they were welcomed by the very energetic Lord Death -"Why hello hello hello hello! I see you guys made it on time!"- Next to him was the mad scientist Professor Stein, who, of course, was smoking a cigarette.
-"Heh Of course! A star like me never arrives late!"- Black*Star bragged stroking his finger against his nose. Tsubaki couldn't help but let out a small laugh.
-"Ah yeah, Lord Death!"- Tsubaki exclaimed, remembering the absence of her other companions. -"Kid won't be able to be present, apparently something urgent happened without warning and they left immediately."- She did her best to explain what happened, after it was too fast for her to have known what happened in the first place, and black*star well...he was in his own world.
-"Oh, is that so?"- Stein spoke from his chair, adjusting the large screw embedded in his skull. -"I wonder what that was?"- He sounded almost sarcastic, as if it was the punch line to a joke never told.
-"Yeah he said something about a witch soul or something, I was gonna go with him but he just ran away! I wasent even able to catch him up!"- He explained somewhat annoyed. Black*Star would have preferred if Kid would have relaxed a little bit and let him go with him.
-"Well thats not good at all! Professor Stein do you have any idea of this?"- Lord Death turned his head towards Stein, who was still adjusting his screw. Tsubaki noticed something strange about his indifference to the situation, he could have at least shown a little bit of worry.
-"Im on it"- Stein took a few more seconds before finally lowering his hand from his screw to his cigarette and taking a long drag on his cigarret. -"It is true that there is a witch, although I must say that it is strange...her soul is not completely witch-like but more of a hybrid between witch and human, heh"- Stein stood up and put a hand in his pocket -"That is interesting...it would give great grounds for numerous experiments"-
Everyone in the room shuddered at the Professor's obvious evil intentions.
-"An hybrid you say? Now that sure is interesting"- Lord Death stopped for a few seconds, Tsubaki couldn't help but have a bad feeling about it. -"Black*Star, Tsubaki, why dont you two go with professor Stein and give him a hand?"- he suggested pointing at the two students.
-"Heck yeah! Just leave it to me!"- Like one could expect, Black*Star went straight into battle.
While Tsubaki -"Of course, we'll do our best"- accepted in a much calmer manner.
-"Is that ok with you Professor Stein?"- Lord Death questioned the professor.
-"Sure, just dont get in the way of the experiments...unless"- A cheeky grin formed on his mouth -"You wanna participate in them"-
-''Uhm No! We're fine thank you!"- laughed Tsubaki nervously.
The trio was ready to leave until Black*Star noticed the absence of a certain red-haired man... He didn't hesitate to turn around and question the academy director.
-"Ah yeah, where the heck is Spirit? I havent heard of him in a long time"- Just in case, he looked to the sides and corners of the room, those places were where he usually 'hid' (for Black*Star's point of view).
-"Oh he's probally still laying on bed or getting drunk in a club, dont worry about him. I will let him know to come just in case something happens"- Again, the shinigami treated the situation as if it was a common one. The answer seemed to be good for black*star, who turned to the rest of the group and together they left the room of death.
Their next destination: The witch souls area.
