Chapter Text
Location Unknown/ Several days before the hour of joy and the Black Mesa incident/ 3rd Person POV/ The G man
"The plan has changed it is that simple." The G man could only feel his eyes slightly twitch in annoyance. He had worked so hard to ensure the dominos were set perfectly for his employers’ plans however they had decided some last-minute changes wouldn't hurt. That meant more work for him. While the G man wouldn't naturally be against more work it was the exact timing of when to push these new changes that bugged him. It was a gamble. The exact day of when the incident was supposed to occur was only a couple days away. If these changes were to be big ones, then the entire plan would be worthless due to the time it would take for him to implement his employers' plans.
"In what way exactly has the plan changed?" The G man asked.
"There is a loose cannon we have been meaning to terminate as well as his organization if you'd call it that. Originally, we had decided to leave it up to simple fate to deal its blow on him and his people however since fate has proven too slow, we will have to take some drastic measures if you'd call it that to make sure he knows that once you sign a contract with us your expected to uphold it. I'm sure you know who we are talking about. You met the original signer of the contract. You were the one that offered him the contract after all." One of the G man's employers said. His face hidden by a shadow. The G man's face scrunched up a bit.
"I will admit it wasn't my finest moment. I put too much trust into the man and his successor."
"That you did indeed and for that you will have to ensure this loose cannon is well punished as if events unfold as they occur, he will be one of the few fortunate who crawls out of his hellhole alive. You cannot allow this to happen. We still intend for the incident at Black Mesa to occur, however, as you can start guessing there will be changes. Great changes so go out and weave your web over time and reality and ensure the chess pieces align to our favor."
The G man then nodded, and he could tell that his employers where smirking. Even if their faces and true forms like his were hidden by illusion and shadow.
Playtime Co/ August 8th/ 1995/ 10 minutes before the hour of Joy/ 3rd Person POV/ The G man
*Tap begins to play*
"Playtime Co is the product of a great man by the name of Elliot Ludwig. Divorced but a family man, his sights were always set on bringing amazing toys to amazing children. Ludwig spent countless hours in the factory working overtime relentlessly in an attempt to continuously innovate new and amazing toys for what he cared about. Making children happy. In the 1960s a family members death pushed Ludwig to his lowest, but with so much ambition he rose back up an continued to fulfil his dream. The Playtime Co factory. Ludwig could never be content with leaving a project unfinished. How did one man manage to create such an astonishing empire. How did one man manage to stay determined even after suffering such a tragic loss. You see it all began in the fateful year of 19-" The tap was cut off.
"Huh who cut it off.... Oh it’s you..... You know I like watching that tape, right?"
"Whether or not you like that tape is none of my concern Lieth Peirre. Your actions however are. My employers aren't too.... pleased with the use of the knowledge we have graciously bestowed you and your former associate/boss Elliot Ludwig " The G man said. His eyes had turned a pick black as he looked down upon the man as he had been relaxing in his private office.
"If this is about-"
"You know exactly what this is about. Less I do not remind you what I did to the former for his improper use of such knowledge graciously bestowed upon him. Me and my Employers had hoped you be wiser than your associate, but it has proven we were greatly mistaken. My employers do not like it when such gifts bestowed by them are not used how they were supposed to. Really the knowledge we gave you is minimal to us but to a simple being like you, it is like finding yourself in.....It is if….." The G man hesitated for a brief second as he looked for a good example.
"It is as if you had access to all the information the library of Alexandra had before it was so unfortunately burned. The main issue, me and my employers, is your failure to uphold the contract you signed."
"Alright buddy first of all where's your evidence." Lieth said cockily only for him to bite those words as the G man waves his hand and the contract appeared in Leiths hand. His name signed on it in blue ink.
"It is rather shameful really. We gave you and Elliot Ludwig a grain of knowledge which gave you the means to ensure life after death and expect you to uphold a simple contract you and the latter signed however you use such knowledge to create.... Monstrosities. Elliot, I can pity at least as he tried to use such knowledge to bring his daughter back as unconventional as it was.... For you, however me and my employers truly expected better from you. Such a waste of knowledge. You use the knowledge we had so preciously handed to you to create things like this." The G man said as he waved his hand and then an unsuspecting mini critter appeared in the G man's hand. It tried to bite down out of fear at the G man's hand only for its teeth to be shattered. The critter biting was like if one bit Iron. The G man gave the creature a pitiful look before waving his hand. The creature was disintegrated its body turning into dust.
"We gave you such knowledge as at the time it would benefit my employers however seeing what you have used such knowledge for and your breaking of the contract on how to use such knowledge you don't have our good graces anymore." The G man continued coldly.
"Killing you directly for such a pathetic waste of knowledge is unfit. Prepare for unforeseen consequences to come your way Lieth Peirre." The G man said coldly before disappearing.
Experiment 1006, The Prototypes cell / 1 minute later.
The G man teleported into the cell with a cool not seen by any moral being. The Camera's in 1006's cell flickered and died as the G man made his uncanny appearance. The usually aggressive prototype was easily lowed by the G man as the G man's uncanny aura and inhuman aura sent a message that even the suborn prototype could register.
The Prototype knew somewhere deep inside at that moment that messing with the G man wouldn't end well. The G man flicked his hands and like that the entire power in the prison was shut off. He then waved his hands, and the blast doors of the prototypes cell was now opened. It seemed the Protypes plan for a risky escape to start off the hour of Joy would no longer be needed as the G man did the work for him. The G man then disappeared he had to ensure his employers new plans for Black Mesa would fall into place.
Just like that the Hour of Joy began 1 hour earlier than it should have in the original timeline.
Black Mesa
"Holy shit shoot that thing! No, no aggh!" one of the poor security guards yelled as he was picked up by long and pink arms. His body was twisted to inhuman proportions. The G man walked by the scene as he gave the guard a look of pity. Not that anyone could see him anyway.
The Pink thing which was Playtime Co's pathetic attempt at making a spider toy was called Mommy long legs. Shame the Cascade caused her to end up terrorizing the Black Mesa staff. Then again collateral was necessary to achieve his employers plans as well as his. That was the simple way of life.
He saw a big Ap like toy which was Playtime Co's crud attempt to make a King Kong knock off also running around wild in the Black Mesa halls. It picked up a scientist and opened it gaping mouth as it began to eat the poor scientist alive.
There was a funny human saying.
"Death soothes the lonely sole."
The G man did not quite get it. Maybe it was a defense mechanism of humans to make such grim phrases. To make death seem not so bad. He and his employers were quiet past death but to mortals the concept terrified them. Made sense. They are more restrained than he is when it comes to the coils of the universe.
He looks to his side and sees some pumpkin toy thing that Playtime Co had made for one of their Halloween specials shoot out fire from its mouth burning several scientist and security guards alive as they screamed for mercy as their flesh was melted off. Then there was that Doe thing. Very emotionally unstable. Shame it failed to tell the difference between Black Mesa and playtime Security guards as right now it was painfully absorbing a security guard into it. Probably this thing's way of eating. While he knew very well, they were orphans they weren't restrained to the human body or that of a child, so He'd simply refer to them as things. Thats what they were anyways at this point.
Oh, there goes another one getting burned alive by the pumpkin thing. He then says in front of him a security guard shooting down some of the small mini critters before being swarmed and eaten. They were like ants in that manner. Just one was easy to handle. In large groups they were quite deadly. He phases through unnoticed by the toys and staff fighting for survival towards his main goal. The control room. He just had to check if it was still functioning. Dr Vance would be coming up to that room soon as planned.
If all was good and the chess pieces had been placed correctly the facilities administrator Wallace Breen should be dead by now. The G man's employers had informed him that they had a hunch that Breen may be an annoyance for future plans (In reference to him helping the combine) so they had put him up to the task of making sure Breen was in the Main control room at the exact time the Resonance cascade began to ensure he was trapped their as the main control room would be one of the more safer locations in the facility if things went amiss.
Back to the good Dr Vance, The G man had to make sure the power in that room was running fine if he wanted Vance to get the HECU involved.
Black Mesa/ May 16th/ 2001/ Main Control room/ 1 hour since the resonance cascade/ Wallace Breen's POV
"Make sure to hit the things in the head. It should be the easiest way to kill them as I highly doubt, they'll give you a second chance." I said as one of the more armed security guards of Black Mesa aimed his sniper rifle at the entrance of the Blast doors to the room.
"Please sir I'm a professional sniper I never miss." The guard said cockily. The other scientist and guards in the room rolled their eyes as he said this. He had placed his sniper rifle on top of one of the control panels.
This entire thing had been a disaster for me and my facility. The purest sample of Xen crystal and those blasted scientists I had placed in charge of making sure the testing of it with the Spectrometer had caused a resonance cascade.
The cascade had opened multiple portals that disappeared and reappeared in sections of the facility as reality had been ripped wide open. Out of these portals came creatures that he could only describe as stuffed animals from hell. The facility had been overrun in less than an hour. My shock and horror had been palpable as the first thing I see in the security Cam is a giant jack in the box creature running around devouring one of my scientists. If this were just a story or movie, I had watched during my free time I would have laughed and called it a ridicules and entertaining story. There was nothing entertaining about it now, however. Such a ridicules idea of killer stuffed animals and toys would have been an afront to science itself until what he had witness come out of those portals. It was made worse by hundreds and hundreds of people running out of some of the portals as well.
A portal had opened in the control room just minutes ago and as his guards prepared for an expected fight with the creatures, they were met by 50 scared people who wore a yellow uniform with the words Playtime Co inscribed to them or who were wearing casual clothing. Who were these people would have been the first question on my mind but right now I wasn't in the mood to be asking questions with hordes of killer stuffed animals and toys running around.
"Sir we have lost all contact with remaining security units on Lower level 1,2, and the 1st floor!" One of the guards in the communications panel said.
"Crap" I muttered.
"Most of site command has been evacuated!" A scientist yelled as he looked through the Camera’s.
"They’re leaving us behind!?" I yelled angrily.
"Seems that way!"
"All contact with the outside world has been cut off! We cannot contact the HECU, national guard, the regular military, or the Airforce! WE can't even contact our rivals at Aperture Science!" The same security guard on the communications panel yelled.
"What about the main lobby on the first floor!" I ask panicking.
"Same story!"
"They're all fucking dead!" One of the scientist's checking the security Cams yelled.
"Sector A4 down, Sector R2 down, sector B1 down! What the hell is going on in those Sectors!" One of the security guard's yells as he looks at another control panel.
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
"Don't tell me they can get through the blast doors." I say nervously.
Bang!
Bang!
"Reinforce the entrance now!" I yell before a loud boom is heard as the doors are forced open. All hell breaks loose.
The first of those things to stick its head in is a large blue thing with stretchy limbs. The blue thing looks like a crud attempt at making a spider and has a top had seemingly fused to its head in a disgusting manner. One of its large blue hands extends forward and punches one of the security guards close to the door so hard it shatters the poor man's head reducing it to splinters of bone and brain.
The creature doesn't enjoy its success for long as the security guard with the sniper rifle opens fire as the bullet hits the creature right through one of its eyes causing it to produce a blood curling scream.
"Fire, fire!" I hear some of the security guards yell as the open fire with their pistols and shot guns at the creature completely peppering it with bullets and reducing it to a chucky corpse of blood and blue only for hundreds of smaller creatures that looked like stuffed animals and large fuzzy creatures with sharp teeth to storm across.
The entire thing turns into a massacre. The light ammunition of my guards and the few scientists that are armed cut down several of the little ones but do nothing against the big ones as they close in around us. One of the little creatures jumps on a guard’s face and begins to dig its way into the guards skull as the man cries for mercy.
One of the playtime guys who had a gun on him tries to fire at one of the biggest instances only to be grabbed and throw towards several guards like a bowling ball crashing into them.
I'm not dying like this I think. No, no, no! The administrator of Black Mesa isn't going like this! I aim my pistol to my temple.
A swift and painless death is preferable to this hell.

Black Mesa/ May 16th/ 2001/ 1 hour 30 minutes since Resonance Cascade/ Eli Vance's POV
Alarms blared throughout the facility as I ran across its halls. It was utter chaos. I ran past some of my poor coworkers getting eaten by those things.....
They came out of nowhere. Well not exactly. They came out of the green portals that opened. The answer to how this happened was simple and grim. A resonance cascade occurred however it should have connected them to Xen not wherever these things came from. They looked like stuffed toys, but they were so much worst. I remember shooting one of them, one of the smaller ones, with a pistol I had stolen off a dead guard. They bled like us. '
The blood went through its skull and killed it instantly. It began to bleed out red blood. They were organic. At first, I thought they were like robots. I know it sounds ridicules but in the moment that was the best I could come up with. I had made sure my wife and little Alyx remained hidden. I cursed myself for leaving the two to their own devices. I know my wife is capable. She is a very and I mean very impressive women and researcher but still with those things running around. I don't think the one pistol she has will keep them at bay. I hope the staff room I hid them in will be able to hold up as a good hiding place.
I heard a familiar roaring as I quickly jumped into a nearby room and hid. It was one of the big ones. They looked like giant fuzzy beasts of sorts. They came in all shades of color. red, green, blue, yellow you name it. Their screeching or roaring, whatever you want to call it was incredibly unique. That helped me. It always alerted me to their presence instead of the usual small ones I would have better luck taking on with my stolen pistol.
I doubt light ammo would do anything to the big ones. I heard its footsteps as it walked past the room I was hiding in. Thank God, it didn't enter the room, or I would have been cornered. I could hear screaming and gunshots down the hallway to my right. I take a small peek and see the fuzzy yellow creature that had walked past my hiding spot being fired at by several security guards as it cased after them.
"Get back get fucking back!"
"Fucking shoot it more!"
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
"No, no, please don't aggh!
I wanted until I couldn't hear any more screaming. Jesus Christ. This was like a horror movie. No, it's worse than that. At least you know a horror movie is well a movie.... This is real. This is God damn real.
I cautiously make my way across the blood-stained halls towards the main control room. I just need to get there. If I can get there, I can send a distress signal, and the military should come in to save us from this cluster fuck. I'm not one to curse but that's the best way to put it into words. A cluster fuck. I let out a sigh as follow a trail of bodies. It leads me to the control room.
The smell of the dead is the first thing that greets me. Tens of bodies both of those creatures and my coworkers lies in mutilated states. I see out of the corner of my eye in the hallway to my right that government agent that had been wandering the halls of the facility before this all occurred. He carried a suit case, wore a blue suit and tie, and looked at me with a calculating expression before he walked away.
How had he survived the massacre unscathed. I was stumped. It didn't matter, something told me he could handle himself.
I entered the blood stained and body filled control room. The power in the room was working surprisingly. Did they even get a chance to send a distress message out. Maybe the room fell from within because one of those portals opened up inside.
I stumble my way to the communications panel trying not to throw up at the complete butchery that occurred in the room. I have to remove a dead body of a guard with half his jaw hanging off his mouth.
Here goes nothing.
Fort Santigo/ May 16th/ 2 hours since Resonance Cascade/ Corporal Adrian Shepards POV
"Due to the fact my Employers have seen some potential in you I will warn you ahead of time Corporal Adrian Shepard. When you enter Black Mesa do not pity those with the uniform labeled playtime Co. Allow them to pay the price of their cruelty for eternity. Rember Adrian when this is all over the loyal shall be rewarded and traitors shall be damned." The government man in the business suit said nonchalantly before he walked off.
"What do you mean when I enter Black Mesa! What's going to be happening!" I yell as the man disappears.
This asshole and his cryptic bullshit I thought. Great, just great. Not my first run in with him
"All HECU combat Personnel report to room A for briefing!" I hear on the loudspeaker.
