Lessons in Abnormality

Summary:

“You all are not oblivious. You’ve no doubt seen the tensions rising, both publicly, but also among the villains. They are gearing up for something. And the HPSC intends to use students as extra manpower.” He frowns. “UA is not content to allow this. As a result, we have looked into and obtained overseas requests and operations that extend for quite a long time. Each of our years will be aiding a situation in another country, in order to prevent you all from being caught up in the storm that is to come. These operations have been judged, and their danger level should be well within what you are capable of, hence why we believe it to be the safer option.”

"We'll be taking on a contract to resume operations of the Korean company L Corp. Doing so will mean facing monsters that are no longer human, and keeping them contained. I have faith in you all."

A crossover between the Project Moon Universe and the MHA characters, where Class 1-A and 1-B take over operations of the fallen L Corp, in an emergency contract for multiple corporations in the city. They will experience firsthand, the horrors of man and monster capable of occurring in The City

Chapter 1: Introductions

Chapter Text

“Attention Class.” Aizawa stood in front of them, by the podium, as he gathered the class’s attention. “I have news.” The man said. “The HPSC has issued a new order to all Hero schools. Any hero student with a provisional License must participate in a mandatory Work Study, or extended operation.” He paused for a moment.

Nobody spoke for a moment, a little stunned at the sudden reveal. “Sir. May I ask for details on the operation we will be undertaking?” Iida asked, politely.

Aizawa nodded. “In order to properly explain, it requires a bit of information, to ensure we are all on the same page. This mission will be taking place in Korea.” This led to a few shocked looks, and concerned glances. It was understandable why. “As some of you are clearly aware, Korea has been in a unique situation for quite some time. Due to multiple disasters and crises, much of it has been rendered an uninhabitable wasteland. What does remain is a single, massive sprawling city. The Korean Government is extremely insular, and very little information is known to the general public about the goings on of The City. These, among other policies, mean that virtually no one has been allowed in or out of Korea for quite some time. Another one of such policies is Korea’s practice of Quirk Prevention.”

Everyone stilled at those words. The class was all aware of the Idea of quirks erasure. They were familiar with their teacher’s quirk. They had seen quirk suppression handcuffs, and they had even been made aware of Overhaul’s erasure bullets. But Quirk Prevention meant another thing entirely. It meant stopping a quirk from ever manifesting in the first place.

“Due to the destruction caused during the collapse of the separated Korean nations, and the aftereffects of such, quirks rapidly spread, and quickly became far more dangerous and far reaching than anywhere else around the world. Due to this, the Korean government researched and created Quit Prevention. Devices around the city prevent citizens from ever developing, or presenting their quirk. For the vast majority of people, this works. But for a select few, who’s quirk cannot be completely blocked, there are a few options. The most rare is that they simply develop a quirk. These quirks are far stronger than any we are aware of, and hold a number of abilities equivalent to 4-5 quirks we are familiar with.”

Everyone’s eyes went wide at that notion. That quirks could be so strong and deadly that preventing them from ever manifesting was the better option. It was terrifying to even think about. Quirk were already strong. They had all seen the destruction of Kamino Ward, and the fight against Overhaul. To be worse than them…

Aizawa continued on. “The most common result of the Prevention devices failing is what is known as a Distortion. When someone experiences extreme emotions and psychological issues that resonate with the capabilities their informed quirk could have. This results in their quirk manifesting harshly, as a combination of their damaged psyche, and unstable quirk factor.” Many of those in the class had harsh manifestations. Kirishima’s scarring, Ashido’s pale left arm, Kaminari’s Lichtenberg scars on his back. Combined with the knowledge of the power these quirks had, it likely wasn't pretty. “When the Distortion manifests, it commonly severely mutates the original body, resulting in a distinctly inhuman appearance, despite primarily being vaguely humanoid in nature. Distortions retain much of their memories, but their impulse control, their emotional recognition, and their empathy are nearly overridden by the emotions that caused the distortion in the first place, most often, anger or violence.” The way he described it was as if these people became something other than human once they became a Distortion. “Distortions can be turned back into human form, though the methods for doing so are mostly unknown. As we won't be interacting with Distortions, that problem will not be ours to solve.”

Most of the class relaxed, glad they wouldn't have to be dealing with these half human, half monster creatures that Aizawa had spoken about. Some of them, however, like Midoriya, Iida, Tokoyami, and Yaoyorozu, recognized that if they were not dealing with Distortions, they would likely be dealing with something worse.

“We will be dealing with things called Abnormalities. If a quirked human is the best case scenario from a manifestation, and a Distortion is the most common, and neutral result, Abnormalities are the worst case scenario.” The class tensed, understanding now was not the time to mess around. “If a Distortion is not fixed, and instead the subject’s psyche or quirk manifestation worsens, they become an Abnormality. Any semblance of humanity they once had us gone, a being that is more quirk and monster than man. Abnormalities have undergone a complete metamorphosis, and cannot revert back. They become one with their quirk, and in doing so, become an otherworldly and often monstrous and malicious creature. Abnormalities must be properly contained, lest they wreak havoc. One of the major companies in Korea, L Corp, was in charge of their containment, as well as generating energy from these creatures. Recently however, they have dissolved for unknown reasons, and many of their facilities have been abandoned. This means that in time, these Abnormalities will be able to escape. Someone must take over operations of containment from the former L Corp, and resume the containment of the Abnormalities.”

It began to sink in that this would be their job. Not crime fighting, not relief, but essentially acting as precaution and security for these monstrous beings. “Sir.” Yaoyorozu said. “Why us?”

“Exposure to Abnormalities cancels the effects of Quirks Prevention, leading to the employees in charge of keeping them contained often becoming Abnormalities themselves. Due to this, Korean citizens are unable to properly staff these containment facilities, and thus, they must turn to those with pre-developed quirks.” The man explained. He noticed the nervous expressions on their faces, and his face softened. “Keeping these Abnormalities contained should not be extremely difficult for us, because unlike Korean citizens, who do not have the standard mutations that we do, every single one of you is much stronger, and durable than them, on top of also having a quirk to utilize. The danger level has been estimated to be well within what you can handle, and you will not be alone during these operations. All we need to do is get the facilities stabilized and running again, while the Korean Government hires permanent staff from out of the country, who will eventually take over for us. And while we are doing this, you all will be safe and protected from the fallout that is going to happen once the tension in Japan snaps.”

“Has everything been prepared on your end?” Hubert asked politely, having dropped by the outer edge of R corp’s Wing. He was near the area, double checking maintenance, and advancements for the TT2 unit installed in one of the other cloning facilities, and figured that while he was nearby, he may as well check on the progress for that joint venture his association and The 4th Pack had been working on. Now, he was talking with Myo, the captain of The 4th Pack Rabbits, and most importantly, the prior L Corp’s closest outside contact. Given their experience suppressing, and combating Abnormalities, she would be the best suited to advise on who should be accepted to take the emergency L Corp holdout contract.

“I’ve been looking through the contracts.” She said, sighing. “Fuckin’ busywork.” She mumbled under her breath. “Anyway, it’s kinda hard to do this research when I only found out about an outside world a few weeks ago, let alone jack shit about it.” She gestured to her desk, which seldom ever got much use other than the cursatory mission plan, now littered with documents. “I mean, like, look at this. We got The Head’s help to send some requests out, which, by the way,” She turned to look at Hubert incredulously. “How the hell do you have so much pull, as to get The Head to break the apparent no contact rule we have? Like, for them to advertise this contract, and be willing to take in foreigners, after hundreds of years of isolation, that’s gotta be a massive ask, no?”

Hubert smiled. “Myo. It has not been quite so long for the rest of the world. There is a reason there has only ever been one T-Corp, and one P-Corp. Our city is massive, and has existed for quite some time, and yet… The same cannot be said for the rest of the world’s perception of us.” Hubert picked up some of the documents, glancing at them, as his grin slowly shifted to a thoughtful look. “Admittedly though, I see the issue. The Head’s overviews on the offices willing to take on the contract are… a bit lacking.” He said hesitantly. While the chances that they would be heard, or that The Head would take offense even if they did were small, and despite his position, Hubert had still grown up in the city. A fear of The Head was only natural. Those who did not fear The Head, were afraid of nothing, because the dead cannot be afraid.

Myo raised an eyebrow, incredulously. “A little lacking?” She held up the page she had been holding when Hubert had walked in. “This is the only goddamn sheet in the entire fucking pile with more than: A well respected agency.” She stared at him, as he waited for her to go on. “That’s it. That's the only fucking thing on any of these sheets.” She began to rifle through the sheets. “A well respected agency, A well respected agency, A well respected agency.” She looked up at him, leaning on her desk in annoyed exasperation. “What the fuck am I supposed to do with this shit?” She asked, the desperation in her tone clear. “They didn't give me any information.” She looked down at the sheet she was previously holding. “This one at least gives me something more than that. A well respected agency, which commonly trains and educates introductory level fixers at a much higher level of skill than even most well experienced others.” Myo sighed, as she sagged back into her chair, and loosely held the sheet up to Hubert. “This seems to be our best bet.”

Hubert read the report with a raised eyebrow. “Hm…” He hummed to himself. “Interesting. The question is, what skill level are these new trainees?”

Myo shrugged. “I would assume they’ve gotta be decent. Most entry level fixers are Grade 9, 8 with some combat experience, and 7 at absolute maximum with some decent augmentations. If they’re better than some experienced fixers than possibly 6 or 5 at most.” She sighed. “The head is very clearly trying to point us in this direction. There's no other reason for that extra note otherwise.”

Hubert nodded. “And do you have any theories as to why?”

Myo shook her head. “No.” She admitted. “I just hope that this isn't going to blow up in our faces.”

Explaining the situation to the members of Class 1-A, and 1-B was one thing. The kids had come to trust their teachers, after the events of the year. When they said this trip would be to protect them as much as possible, and that things in Japan were going to go downhill quickly, the students didn't doubt them for a second. The same, however, could not be said for all of their parents. Many of them required some convincing.

Inko Midoriya was not one such parent. She was glad to hear that for once, UA was being proactive instead of reactive. Izuku Midoriya, on the other hand, was not one such student. Unlike the rest of his year, who accepted UA’s explanation, who wanted to leave for the time being, Izuku felt that it was his job to stay. They would be fighting against Shigaraki, Izuku was sure of it. And was that not One For All’s legacy?

It was why All Might had called the boy into his office. “I understand you are hesitant about leaving on this trip.” The man said.

Izuku frowned. “I’m not hesitant. I’ve made up my mind fairly easily. I don't want to go.”

All Might sighed. “Why?” The man asked him to elaborate.

“Because, this is my responsibility now. You can't use your quirks anymore, which means that dealing with All For One, and what’s left of his organization is my job.” Izuku said, staring at the floor.

“When did I ever say that?”

Izuku snapped his head up to stare at All Might, confused. “Wha? What do you mean?” He asked.

“Midoriya.” The man began slowly, gently. “When did I ever say that you needed to dedicate the rest of your life to taking down All For One, and his remnants?” He stared at Izuku for a moment, before he sighed. “My boy, the fact that you have to deal with this problem at all means that I was a failure. The fact that I could not dismantle his operations in their entirety, means that I did not do all that I could. But I would never attempt to foist the completion of that mission on your shoulders, and your shoulders alone. This is not your problem to solve. You are still learning. Go and do that.”

Izuku was silent for a moment, before he frowned slightly. “But… You said ‘You're Next.’ Back during Kamino.” He mumbled.

All Might's face shifted to a fond smile. “I meant that eventually, you would be the one the world looked up to, like me. Not that you were their only hope from that moment on.”

Izuku nodded, but it was clear that despite understanding, he didn't agree. “I know, I just…” He sighed. “It feels like leaving would make me a coward, and a disappointment to everyone in Japan.”

All Might expected that. Izuku was always self critical, so to stop that train of thought, he had to use his secret weapon. “Was I?”

Izuku blinked, confused, and caught off guard. “What?” He asked.

“Was I a coward? Did I become a disappointment to everyone in Japan?” Izuku opened his mouth to respond, but All Might continued. “Nana had just died to All For One. I had just graduated UA. Japan needed a hero. And yet, at the advice of Gran Torino, I left. I was more trained than you are, had a better grasp on my power, and All For One was still active, not just the remnants of his organization. Despite that, I left. So does that make me a coward?” All Might said, and for a moment, Izuku simply stared at him, unable to form a response.

“No-no that do-!” Izuku hurriedly tried to take back his words, but All Might laid a hand on Izuku’s shoulder, silencing him.

“My boy. If that did not make me a coward, then why would this make you one?” He said, softly and gently. Blissfully, as Izuku heard his words, the man saw understanding begin to form in Izuku’s eyes, as he let loose the tension he had before.

“I… You’re right.” Izuku admitted quietly. “It doesn't.” He let out a sigh, simply waiting for a moment. “I’ll go.” He finally said, giving in.

All Might nodded, and gave him a smile. “I’m proud of you, you know that?”

Today was the day they left. The students had their bags packed, and their things ready, as they took the UA buses to the airport. It was something nearly all of them were anxious, and excited in equal measure for. Both classes would be going, and working together, which would be an interesting experience. For the time being, while they were on the operation, there was no Class 1-A or Class 1-B. There were only the UA students. Despite the slight weariness from the notion of not fully knowing what to expect, getting to visit a different country had many of them excited.

They boarded the plane, realizing that it was set up to look more like a train car, with tables and booths, rather than the standard rows of seats. Uraraka was excited at this, and quickly dragged their friends into one of the booths. “So! Who’s excited about this!” She asked.

Todoroki nodded. “I’m certainly glad I won't have to deal with my father for a while.” He sighed. “It’ll be a fun time not having to worry about him.”

Tsuyu held a finger to her lips. “It’s likely to be interesting. The way that Aizawa-Sensei explained it though makes me a little concerned… Did anyone else get the feeling it was just a little too vague?”

Izuku nodded. “Yeah, it was a bit questionable.” He realized how that could come out. “Not that Aizawa Sensei is at fault of course!” He hastily corrected. “I don't think that he knows much more than he gave us. But yeah, I'm not entirely sure what to expect. It wasn't exactly clear what any of the things mentioned were. Like… Abnormalities. Monsters and otherworldly creatures. What does that even mean?”

Iida pursed his lip, and pushed his glasses up. “I suppose we will have to wait and see. I am glad that Aizawa-Sensei and Vlad King-Sensei are coming with us.” He sighed. “Admittedly, I’m going to miss my brother though.”

The mood at the booth dipped slightly, at the reminder of those that they would be leaving, and the reason they would be doing so. War was coming for Japan. Despite their families being warned that it wouldn't be safe for much longer, many of them knew they didn't have the means to simply leave. But they all rathered that those in the class take the chance to get away from everything if they could.

Slowly, the conversation picked back up again, speculations on what The City would be like, and what they would be doing in the downtime.wild theories were thrown out by Uraraka and Todoroki, even managing to get Iida’s usually rigid demeanor to calm down quite a bit, making jokes alongside them, as the plane took off, and began the flight.

It was less than 2 hours before the plane landed at an isolated airport near the lower Coast of the Korean Peninsula. By that point many of the students nerves had mostly calmed, and as the plane came to a stop, many of them were eagerly awaiting what was to come. “Everyone grab your bags!” Aizawa called down the plane. “Exit the plane, and stay near Vlad King. Our guide will meet us once we are out of the plane!”

Slowly, the students gathered their things, and walked down the stairs of the plane, onto the runway. By habit, the students were loosely grouped into two sections, 1-A and 1-B. As everyone got off their attention was drawn to the figure slowly walking down the runway towards them. Dressed in a long black cloak with golden, elongated hexagon patterns, akin to a honeycomb, the man walked towards them. He looked at them all over for a moment, not saying a word. The very presence of the man had everyone silence themselves. Something about him screamed danger. “I see you’ve all arrived safely.” He said blandly. The man looked around, glancing at the sky. “It isn't often that I venture into the outskirts.” He said, before turning, and sending a meaningful look to them all. “So be grateful, and don't cause any trouble for me. I won't be patient with you all.” He warned.

Izuku turned to face Bakugou. Ordinarily the boy would backtalk anyone like that, but Bakugou wasn't stupid. He noticed the level of danger the man before them held. And he recognized that Bakugou stood no chance. So, understanding that this person in particular was not someone to mess with, he kept quiet.

The man turned around, and began walking. “Come.” He ordered, and slowly, everyone began to follow behind him. As they walked, he turned over his shoulder. “Allow me to make something clear. I am not a guide. I am here to escort you into the city, and transport you to R Corp’s welcoming group. I will not be answering your every question. I will teach you a small number of things, and I expect you to listen carefully.” He turned to fully glance at them, before continuing. “Firstly, none of you have powers or singularities that allow you to clone yourselves or others, which makes that a non factor. This is also the case with Artificial Intelligences. The two rules that may become relevant are weapons laws and property destruction. Firearms must be patented, and registered with the city, in accordance with relevant laws. This means that you may not create firearms of any kind within city limits, without a workshop license, and design permit. Should you eventually obtain such, any ammunition crafted must be official calibers, and properly documented, so that the relevant ammunition’s tax may be paid. Ammunition bought beforehand, or by someone else will have already paid the tax, and is exempt from such record keeping.” This point was said with a glance at Yaoyorozu, who nodded wearily.

“I understand Sir.” She said hesitantly, not wanting to upset him, but wanting to make it clear she would follow the rules.

The man nodded. “Good.” For a moment they continued to walk, before he began the next point. “The last relevant law is in regards to property damage. We do not ordinarily occupy ourselves with property destruction, however destruction or damage of residential buildings is strictly prohibited, and is grounds for harsh penalties.” He turned to those with the more volatile quirks of the class. “Any form of damage is considered breaking this rule, and as such will not be tolerated.” Nods quickly went around the class. “The final point. You’re Hero Licenses are not the same as a Fixer license. You have been cleared to take on the Emergency L Corp contract, but you do not have the authorization to take on any other fixer contract unless you choose to register yourselves with the Hana Association as fixers.”

“What of crimes? Are we allowed to step in if we see someone being attacked?” Aizawa said, clearly more bold than the rest of them.

The man turned away from them all, a bored expression on his face. “We do not have hero licenses here. If you see something you deem an issue, you are more than welcome to attempt to stop it. But doing so may mean coming into conflict with the various wing’s security and staff. Not to mention what is legal and illegal in your country is different than the city. You may find yourself out of your depth.” He said. “My suggestion is to not start anything you can't finish.” He turned around, and gave a dissatisfied once over to the group. “Which isn't much.” He said, turning back around.

Eventually, they neared a building, and slowly funneled into it. Inside were a number of doors, which were each labeled with a letter of the English alphabet, and all appeared heavily reinforced. The man, who had still yet to give a name, walked over to the door labeled R, and opened it, slowly walking through, with a pointed look behind him, signifying for them to follow him.

As they walked through the door, there was a short hall, but at the other end they suddenly found themselves in a large lobby, completely different from the bland building which they had entered. A grand, golden, and brass room with a stainless hardwood floor. “What the-” Aizawa said, clearly caught off guard. He looked behind him, as the students continued to walk through the short hallway. Where there should have been the doors leading to the other hallways for the lettered doors of Q and S respectively, was nothing but standard wall.

“Distorted space. A benefit of P Corp.” The man said dryly. “Welcome to District 18, under R corp’s control, one of your primary sponsors, and the one who will be in charge of managing your accommodations.” He checked his watch. “The captain of The 4th Pack Rabbits will be here soon. With that, my job is done.” He quickly walked around the group, stepped through the doors, which sealed tightly behind him, and they were left, standing in an unfamiliar lobby, waiting for someone they had never met, in a city they hadn't known existed until a few weeks ago.

Understandably, the man’s demeanor had caused everyone’s nerves to be on high alert. “Mr. Aizawa?” Yaoyorozu asked hesitantly. “Was that… supposed to happen?”

Mr Aizawa stared at where the man had disappeared, before turning back to the group, a tense look on his face. “I don't know.” He admitted. “All I was told was that someone would collect us at the airport, and would escort us to the person in charge of our operation.” He looked around. “I would assume they'll be meeting us here, but… I don't know as much as I would like about this.” He admitted. “Just… stay on your guard.” He warned the classes.

After a short and tense wait, a figure walked in. It was a shorter woman in a black and orange combat suit, with bangs looking similar to droopy rabbit ears. Her chest plate was marked with a symbol of a rabbit wearing a gas mask. Sheathed at her hip was a combat knife, ready to be drawn at a moment’s notice, and holstered on her left hip was a pistol. She almost immediately stopped, eyes widening slightly, upon laying eyes on the students. A slight shake of her head, and a blink brought her expression back to normal. “So. I take it you are the fixers here to take on the L Corp contract?”

Aizawa eyes the knife on her hip before nodding slowly. “It was clarified by… whoever it was that escorted us here that our hero licenses did not translate to fixer licenses, but that this contract was an exception.”

The woman’s eyes narrowed in confusion. “Hero license?” She murmured to herself. “Whatever, not really important.” She gave the group a once over. “I’m noticing that you all don't have your weapons on you.” She raised an eyebrow. “You might want to correct that before we head out. A big group like this is bound to attract some attention, even in a nest.” She suggested.

Bakugou, much more bold than he was previously, seeing that this woman wasn't nearly as intimidating, let his palms crackle. “I don't need a weapon to kick the ass of someone willing to fight us.” He said with a confident smirk.

Instantly, the woman’s eyes sharpened in understanding, and she glanced back over the class with a tactical eye. “Powers.” She mumbled. “That’s how you’re skilled as an academy.” Her lips curled up into a grin, and her foot began to tap against the floor quickly. “Oh, this is going to be good.” She took a breath, and nodded. “Alright. It’s not far from the headquarters. Just stick together and follow me.” She said. It seemed like people not introducing themselves was a thing in The City. “Hubert will be waiting for us there.” Moments after Izuku had that thought, it seemed to occur to the woman that she had yet to give her own name. “Oh, and I’m Myo, the Captain of the 4th Pack Rabbits.” She added. “Now c’mon. I don't intend to wait for too long.” She said, quickly walking out the front door.

With a shocked glance, Aizawa began to follow her out, with the class slowly filtering through the doors, before Vlad brought up the rear. As they walked out onto the wide streets, the sprawling city came into sight above and around them. The reality of what had occurred hit everyone. They had walked through a short hallway, and somehow had exited somewhere entirely different, that should not have been able to be reached in such a short distance. Around them, the black, white and orange architecture spread outwards. It was reminiscent of Myo’s suit, and Izuku noticed that a number of people around, stationed, like one might expect security to be, wore similar uniforms. Some carried the same slim look, and rabbit insignia that Myo did, their helmets resembling rabbits, with a gas mask attached to it. Others seemed slightly heavier armored, carrying heavy tanks on their backs attached to staves held in their hands, with antlers of some kind protruding from their helmets. The last type were massive, bulky behemoths, standing head and shoulders over even Shouji, wearing extremely heavy armor, and bearing a helmet resembling a Rhino’s.

A number of them nodded towards Myo, most prominently the rabbits, which made sense considering the title she had been given. Slowly though, they reached another building, seemingly a far more important one, if the elegant and yet structurally sound appearance of it was any indication. Myo guided them in, through the front lobby, and finally, into a large hall, seemingly intended for addressing a large crowd. Waiting in the room was a man in a bright blue overcoat, who’s eyes widened, and a smile formed on his face as he saw the class entering. “Welcome!” He called brightly, as the class settled into the room. “It’s a pleasure to meet you all! My name is Hubert, and in case she has forgotten again, this is Myo. We are the two who have put together this contract and will be your handlers for its duration.” He gave an interesting look over of the students. “Admittedly, I was expecting you to be older, as the laws in The City prevent obtaining a Fixer’s license until one is 21, but if you have accepted, and been chosen for this contract then I have no doubts about your capabilities!” Unlike most that they had met, Hubert’s enthusiasm was a breath of fresh air for the tightly wound class, who found small smiles stretching across their own mouths.

“We’ve received very little information about the contract itself outside of its supposed difficulty. Would you be able to help clarify some of that information?” Aizawa asked the man.

Hubert nodded. “Of course! Despite what it may seem like, we know very little about you or the outside world as well, so it seems that The Head has kept both of us in the dark thus far. Why don't you tell me what you know, so that we can figure out what needs to be filled in.” He suggested.

Aizawa agreed that was a good idea and began to explain. “We’ve been told that our job will be taking over operations of one of the facilities belonging to the former L Corp. In these facilities are Abnormalities, beings twisted by their quirk and their psyche into monstrous creatures that can never return to human. We will need to subdue and contain them, and keep the facilities running.”

Hubert looked satisfied. “That’s the gist of it.” He said. “Due to the danger level presented by the Abnormalities, when you enter the location and begin operations, it will lock down. As you generate power, more and more facilities will come on line, allowing it to assimilate prior facilities from other L Corp locations. Every few days, the location will lock down the Abnormalities, and open back up, allowing you all to spend time within the city, eating at restaurants, gathering supplies, ordering weapons contracts from fixers offices, etcetera.” He paused, taking a moment to ensure that everyone was paying attention, before he continued. “You all will be considered agents, performing combat operations, Working with and extracting Enkephalin from Abnormalities, and spearheading operations within the site. There will be non-agent staff as well, desk clerks, who perform the vast majority of menial tasks, documentation, busywork, and the like.”

Aizawa looked vaguely impressed at that. They already had 42 people, but it seemed that they would be getting much more in the facility. “This is a pretty big operation, no?”

Hubert nodded. “It is one of the most crucial tasks in the successful operation of the city. L Corp branches produced such a large amount of energy that extreme technologies have become commonplace. But we are running out. Dozens of wings are on the brink of collapse, due to the lack of affordable energy that was once a guarantee.” His smile dipped slightly, but he continued. “It’s the reason you are here today. R Corp is experiencing power issues, as is W Corp. With W Corp slowing operations, many of the other wings within the city become unable to continue their standard operations, such as T Corp. It's a chain reaction, and without this contract, we would be running out of time. Frankly speaking, you all are our lifeline. If nothing were to be done, the resulting wing collapses and conflicts would make The Smoke War look like a child’s tantrum.”

Myo gained a hard look at that, clearly having remembered whatever The Smoke War was. Regardless, she shook her head, and cleared her thoughts. “It’s good to have you here. We’ve been told by the head that the risk of Abnormality transformation is too high for those of us from the city to man this operation, hence why we’ve been allowed to hire from overseas. So long as the non-agent staff doesn't come into contact with the Abnormalities too often, they will be protected from this phenomenon as much as can reasonably be achieved.”

Aizawa nodded. “I was going to ask about that. What about operations? I assume you’ll be walking us through that?”

The two shared a look. “That… is not going to be the case.” Hubert admitted. “See, neither myself nor Myo were members of the former L Corp. I am a manager of one of TimeTrack Corporation, and Myo is the Captain of the 4th Pack Rabbits of Replication Corporation. Myo will be aiding you as much as possible, due to some previous operations the 4th Pack Rabbits have undergone at L Corp branches, but as for daily operations, we have as much experience as you do.” Hubert sent a weak smile to the group. “Obviously, this isn't ideal, but the benefit is that there are no prior protocols, or limitations you must follow. You can dictate how your operations run. We have a few introductory employee training guides, but the vast majority of the oversight of the city must be learned over time, through working with the Abnormalities, and analyzing their mannerisms, and reactions. Despite what had been said, the vast majority of Abnormalities are fairly harmless, simply possessing abilities that make them a hindrance towards facility management. While not ideal circumstances, Abnormalities cannot truly be killed, meaning that your students don't need to hold back from dealing irreparable damage. Killing them will simply revert them to a metamorphic state, which can be safely moved back into containment. It may be awkward to begin with, but in time, things will begin to become second nature.”

Aizawa sent a warning look their way but nodded. At this Myo took the lead again. “With all of that being said, I would assume you all would prefer to reach the site, and gather the lay of the land before you are required to begin operations?”

“Yes.” Aizawa said. “That would be much appreciated.” His voice was tense, like he didn't enjoy what was being said, but understood there was little they could do about it.

“Then follow me.” Myo said. “And stay on your guard. We’ll be leaving the nest, and heading into the backstreets. My presence won't be enough to scare off the more desperate rats, and bold syndicates, so there’s a chance for a confrontation.” She warned, as she slowly began to walk out of the building, sending a glance behind her shoulder to ensure they were following her.

Izuku didn't particularly enjoy the way that things had been phrased. It seemed that the ones supposed to be in charge of this operation were just as in the dark as the rest of them. It wasn't a good sign for the rest of this. Bust slowly, they made their way through the nest of R Corp. Eventually, they neared a large wall that seemed to run around the length of the city. They entered a building that was connected to it, and it quickly became apparent that this was a border of some sorts. Dozens of R Corp staff, each wearing the Rabbit, Rhino or Reindeer armor stood on guard, as a number of citizens were slowly processed. The lines to enter the nest were massive, and split into two distinct lines. One was fairly short, and quickly moving, as those in it were quickly admitted into the nest. This side was calm and clean, holding people with good clothing, and neat looks. This was clearly the side for those who normally resided within the nest. The other was much less neat. Smudges could be spotted on the floor and the glass separators, and the lines were much longer and winding. Many of those waiting had worn and ragged clothing, not quite fraying, but clearly of poor quality. They were far less clean than those in the other line, and it seemed to be moving at such a slow pace that those in the line were leaning against the divider, or sitting down on the floor. This was likely a line for those who did not come from the nest.

It was an image Izuku did not appreciate seeing, but he was unable to do anything, as Myo led them to a separate section, the path into the backstreets as she had stated earlier. It felt like an airport terminal’s customs. Despite that, Izuku pulled out his card that had been given before they boarded the buses earlier that day. It held his picture, stated his agency and provisional license status, and was marked with the R Corp insignia, showing his status as a contract worker for them.

Slowly the group began to make their way through security, gathering on the other side. Each individual member was fairly fast, but there were 43 of them that had to go through, stretching the process out quite a bit. When it was Izuku's turn, he simply presented his card to the Reindeer officer waiting at the checkpoint, before they nodded, handing him his card back, and gesturing for the boy to go through. Eventually though, they had all made it through. It was clear from the operations here that there was a major separation between a nest and the backstreets, and every one of Izuku’s friends could tell that what they saw on the other side was likely to be far different than what they had seen within the nest.

Despite that, to say they were unprepared was an understatement. Almost instantly upon stepping through the doors, the scent of dried blood hit their noses. The buildings appeared far more worn and weathered, the streets far more congested, and the students, well kept in their UA uniforms, were distinctly out of place in what Izuku was quickly realizing was this city’s slums. A quick look around showed that many of the streets and corners were stained in a splattered dark red, stains of blood that hadn't been washed. To his horror, more than a few of the red patches seemed almost fresh, having occurred less than an hour ago. Despite that shock, Myo acted as if this all was normal.

Suddenly far more panicked and tense, the group followed Myo down winding paths. It was there that they were stopped by a group of well dressed, but clearly not well mannered people. Nearly all of them seemed to have some sort of prosthetic limbs, be it massive arms and hands, a secondary set of legs, or even extra limbs protruding from their back, and a dark, forest green color choice for their clothing. “Hey! Look what we’ve got here!” One of them said, with an upbeat tone, and a grin that was just a little too wide to be friendly. He had well kept brown hair, which seemed to be greased backwards, and four prosthetic arms sprouted from his back, crossed behind his head in a cocky, but relaxed manner. The rest seemed to gather around him, slowly blocking the path down the street, as My stopped. “A wee little wabbit, waltzing down the winding way.” He said, a mocking tone. “You’re a long way from home Bunny. What are you doing all the way out here?” He seemed to glance slightly behind her, as if searching for something that wasn't there. “And without your rifle nonetheless. Getting bold, eh?”

Myo sent a harsh glare at the man. “I’d suggest you back off Oliver.” She said, her hand moving towards the pistol on her hip. “Even if you kill me, you know as well as I do I’ll be back, with the weight of R Corp.

The man, Oliver, laughed. “Oh? And, prey tell,” the man said, putting emphasis on prey, to make it clear he was referencing Myo’s status as a rabbit. “What are you going to do about it? You might have a numbers advantage due to the at least marginally impressive group you’ve got behind you, but they’re weaponless kids. It won't take much to cut them down, and you and I both know that.” He threatened.

Aizawa took a step forward, but Kamakiri from Class 1-B had already responded to the challenge, producing a long blade from the lower side of his right arm, and holding it up. “Just because we don't have visible weapons doesn't mean we’re powerless. And you’ve got prosthetic limbs that I won't have to be too upset for dismembering. So do you really want to try your luck in an 8 vs 43?”

Oliver eyed the blade, his smirk not dropping once. “Impressive.” He glanced at Myo. “I see you’ve got more influence than we expected.” Despite his words he didn't seem the least bit concerned. “Well, I’ve got other business today, so I won't be too much of a hard ass. I’ll be letting it slide.” His grin dropped slightly, and his upbeat tone became far more harsh. “This time at least.” He said, glaring at Kamakiri. “Next time though?” He said, turning back to Myo. “Get your G Corp Roaches under control. Smoke war’s long over, and so is their usefulness. Make sure he’s reminded of his place.” The man turned around and made to leave. “Oh, and Myo.” He said, pausing a little bit away, and glancing over his shoulder at her. “You and I both know that The 4th Pack isn't doing so hot right now. You might want to turn down that bravado. Because you know just as well as I do.” the man said, throwing her words back at her. “That this next batch could be your last.” He finished with a smirk, walking off around a corner.

Once enough time had passed, Aizawa turned to look at Myo. “What was that?” He asked.

“That was an enforcer of The Pinky.” She said, a more concerned look on her face than before. “Come on. We have to get to the facility now.” She began to move quickly.

Aizawa sent a confused look her way. “What the hell does that mean?” He asked, clearly just as lost as everyone else was.

Myo looked over his shoulder. “Your student has just threatened an enforcer of one of the largest syndicates in the city. We need to leave now before he changes his mind, and decides to slaughter us all. I can be recreated. You all can't.” She said, her tone hurried and panicked.

With a worried glance at the street Oliver and his group had gone down, Aizawa nodded, and the class continued once again. It wasn't far left to go before they found a building that looked slightly better than those around it. It held an insignia of an L, with the top sticking into a circle, and a wrinkled shape akin to a brain wrapping round the top of the L within the circle. The front door, which had once been a large armored bunker door, big enough to let through haulers, had seemingly been dented heavily, and eventually ripped open through enough force, a gaping tear in the reinforced metal bending it backwards to form a large doorway. Myo led them in with little hesitation, and the group continued. The building was fairly well kept, despite the clearly abandoned state, and slowly, they made their way to an elevator. “Despite the look of the place, we’ve cleared out the lower sections of the building, and the entry into the facility itself. Inside the facility is a different story though. There shouldn't be anything too crazy, this was one of the newer facilities, so they only had up to TETH class Abnos, but still.” The elevator was large, not simply being designed for people, but clearly intended to be used for large amounts of cargo. It was more than enough to carry them all, as Myo hit the button, and they began their descent into the facility.

Chapter 2: Into The Depths

Chapter Text

The elevator doors slowly shut, a sheet of reinforced steel over two feet thick closing behind them. With a slight hum, the elevator began to descend. There was no roof to the platform, and as they got further, the light began to dim slightly, before they passed more attached to the walls. It was an eerie experience, especially after having entered through what appeared to be an abandoned building. The length of the ride didn't help ease any tensions, continuing to descend, further, and further into the earth. The class could feel the air slowly get less fulfilling as time went on, needing to take deeper breaths. As far as anyone could tell, there were no ventilation shafts within the walls, making such a thing understandable.

Eventually though, after what felt like an eternity, the elevator slowed, and eventually stopped, with yet another large blast door opening. Behind it seemed to be something akin to an airlock, with a third blast door about the same distance in as the elevator was long. Regardless, Myo guided everyone into the airlock, and again, after ensuring everyone was in, hit the button to activate it. The doors behind them sealed, and fully shut with a click. A hiss sounded, and air began to flow into the room quickly. It felt different to normal air, as Izuku breathed it in. It was thicker, and heavier, almost requiring more effort to draw into his lungs. For a moment, despite breathing in, he felt no reprieve from oxygen, as if he was holding his breath. Izuku's eyes widened, slightly worried, but Myo was still breathing in the same air as them, without any form of gas mask, so this was clearly intentional. His lungs began to burn for a moment, and Izuku became less and less sure that this was the correct option, as more of his classmates began to panic.

“Just keep breathing.” Myo said, with a slight bit of difficulty. “The first time is by far the worst, but I assure you it’s normal.” She didn't seem to be doing much better than any of the rest of them, which was confusing to Izuku. Rather, it seemed like she was just aware of what would be happening. Izuku was reminded of the exchange between Myo and Oliver. Myo had hinted that even if she was killed, it wouldn't be the end for her. Some form of regeneration? Resurrection? It didn't seem like it, from the way the conversation had gone, but Izuku didn't have enough information yet.

It was then that Izuku felt the burning in his lungs cool down rapidly, like a sore muscle that had an ice pack placed on it. The soothing sensation coursed through his body, and almost immediately, he felt like he was breathing in some of the purest and cleanest oxygen his body had ever consumed. The sensation hit his arms and it took Izuku a moment to realize that anything had changed. He had been in so much pain from the lack of air, that when it went away, Izuku almost didn't notice his chronic pain from his hands and arms had gone with it. He hesitantly squeezed his fists, tighter than he had in a long time, because of the pain such an action would normally incur, and yet here, he was fine.

“Sorry for the panic, but explaining it is difficult. That was your body making the switch from oxygen to MedMist. It's difficult to get clean air pumped this far down, especially because the topside facility is in the middle of the backstreets, which are already polluted to all hell. So, rather than trying, L Corp simply modified the Regenerators.” Myo spoke loudly, as the doors to the airlock slowly began to open behind her. “Notice how many of you are more awake and alert?” Izuku glanced around, and he saw that, true to her word, Aizawa finally looked like he had gotten a good nap, despite looking exhausted moments ago. “The Regenerators have an energy fueling system in them. Essentially acts as a safe, and non-addictive energy drink. But the main purpose is to replace your need to breathe oxygen.” Izuku’s mind went into overdrive, attempting to figure out what that even meant. “You breathe oxygen so that your cells can break it down, in combination with glucose, and generate energy. Well, these Regenerators skip the middle man. They directly give your cells the energy they need, skipping the breaking down oxygen. Of course the adjustment is a little harsh, but you’re fine, and whenever you leave, your body will be able to switch back to oxygen easily.”

Izuku’s eyes widened. That was an absurd concept. That they technically weren't breathing oxygen right now. Maybe it was stupidity, or curiosity, but he held his breath. He wanted to see how it functioned, in comparison to normal air. But as he approached his normal limit, Izuku felt fine. More than fine actually, Izuku almost didn't feel like he was holding his breath at all. He focused on the feeling inside his body, and to his surprise, he could almost feel the energy coming into his body through his exposed skin. He wasn't breathing it in, but he didn't need to. Within the Regenerators, anywhere that the MedMist, as Myo had called it, touched was able to properly take in the energy, and distribute it through his body. Recognizing that not breathing was probably not a good habit to learn though, Izuku stopped holding his breath.

Just as Izuku's body began the process of breathing again, useless though it now was, the farther blast doors opened, and the appearance of the facility drastically changed. What was once an old, derelict lab of some kind had turned into a sprawling facility full of pristine rooms and massive halls, as well as people, bustling all about, though without too much urgency. The hall was massive, stretching far upwards, nearly 4 stories if Izuku had to estimate. The vast majority of it was occupied by what appeared to be a large cafeteria, with a number of restaurants and stations set up around it. Perhaps the most striking thing though, was the massive illuminated wall on one side. It showed a clear and calm sky, as if one was looking out from a skyscraper rather than what Izuku assumed was tens of stories below ground. The wall was clearly artificial light and picture, but its quality was high, and Izuku could practically feel the warmth on his skin from the artificial sun’s light. An artificial day and night down here in the facility no doubt.

“Welcome to the lobby.” Myo waved her arms, gesturing to the massive room. “This is the general gathering space when the production day is not active. Secretarial staff and general workers do the majority of their work here, though they gather the information during the production day.” A number of employees gave Myo nods, or glances, although a few also ducked their heads as they passed by, causing Izuku to wonder what caused her to gain such a worrying reputation. “I’ll give you a tour of the facilities, those that I can anyway, before leading you all to your lodgings.”

Myo began to walk through the large lobby, towards one of the larger offices off to the opposite side of all the food. “This is the records room.” Myo said, waving her hand in the direction of it. “During the daytime, staff will be on site, taking notes using good old pen and paper. The power comes in as bursts, meaning power surges and outages are frequent, and the computers tend to crash and reboot often. During the daytime too much data would be lost as a result, so they switched to this method. All of those records are then made digital here, after the production day ends.”

Mr. Aizawa’s eyes narrowed at the statement. “I thought you claimed not to have much experience with the company, or how things worked?” He said, a warning tone in his voice.

Myo opened her mouth and went to speak when she was cut off by a different voice. “That would be thanks to me!” A cheery voice called out from behind Myo. A young woman, barely 21, walked out from behind the Rabbit, and smiled kindly at them. She had shoulder length, washed out red hair, and wore a black turtleneck under a long white turtleneck. On her shoulder was a faded armband, red, with green edges, and a large white letter D in the middle. In her mouth, sticking out from the left corner, was a long, used match, burned, and glowing with a hot ember, but no longer on fire. Perhaps the most striking thing about her though, was the right side of her jaw, including a small portion of her cheek. The area transitioned from healthy skin, to black necrotized flesh, which seemed to have been melted together. Her teeth stuck out of the rotted section, even if she hadn't been smiling, and they were equally as rotted and damaged as the rest of her. The afflicted area seemed to only spread as it traveled down her neck, eventually being hidden by the turtleneck.

“Who exactly are you?” Mr Aizawa asked, his eyebrows raised.

“One of the most senior members you’ll see here!” The woman replied. “I’m Kanami Iseru. It’s a pleasure to meet you all.” The woman stuck her right arm out, which had been tucked into her pocket, and it revealed the Necrosis spread all the way down her arm, encompassing her entire hand. Despite that, she seemed to have no issues controlling it, the fingers bent, ready for a handshake. Almost immediately though, her eyes widened slightly, and she pulled her arm back, bowing instead. “Sorry about that. I keep forgetting about this.” She said, her smile turning sheepish and awkward. Her gaze moved over the class, taking them all in, before pausing at Izuku, her eyes widening once more, and she seemed to swallow a bit, before returning to her once over of the class, albeit somewhat stilted, if Izuku paid close enough attention.

Mr Aizawa, seemingly accepting what he had been given so far, bowed slightly back. “Aizawa Shota. I take it you are also Japanese?” He asked.

Kanami laughed awkwardly at that. “Oh, no, not Japanese. I’m still a resident of the city, just of a region that I’m told takes heavy influence from that region.” For a moment, no one responded unsure of what to say next, before Kanami continued. “A-anyway, I’m the Head of Records here. As I said early, I’m one of the most senior members you’ll find. The reason being is that I used to work for one of the auxiliary facilities as an agent. While I have some experience with the record keeping and method of such, it’s not entirely comprehensive. Due to this,” She raised her right arm up, gesturing to her hand. “I can't act in that capacity anymore. As such I’ve been assigned as the Head of Records, because while I don't know the entirety of the process, I know more than nearly anyone else in this facility.”

Myo nodded. “Kanami is one of three prior L Corp Employees under service. You’ll be working with Huang Lei, as the Head of Recollection eventually, and the third, Sako Atsuhiro will be aiding in the creation and adjustment of armor and weaponry as the Head of Extraction.” She waved her hand towards the records room. “You won't be doing much work out here, and especially not in the records room. It’s for the clerks to catalogue information, and consistently update the work logs with more researched directions.”

Kanami smiled again. “Yup. I’ll be helping with all of that, but feel free to stop in anytime to ask questions about work, or give us some extra info!” As she finished her sentence, her eyes widened slightly, and she turned, pointing to Myo. “Oh! I was supposed to tell you, Sako’s been having some… Difficulties with All That’s Left. She’s been particularly vehement about not returning. He’s trying to pacify her, along with Huang, but it’s slow going.” Her smile became tight, closer to a grimace than a true smile, but still holding her kindness behind it. “It's… It's probably best to leave them be. At least for today. They won't be needed until after hours, when Sako can begin the process, and he’s already got all of the schematics for everything.”

There was clearly a story behind whatever was happening. The way Kanami said All That’s Left made it seem more like a name, rather than a statement, and her referencing it as a she from that point on further muddled the water of what exactly it was. Regardless, it seemed like Myo would be continuing the tour.

“Seeing as the Extraction department head is experiencing… Issues, we’ll skip that for the time being.” Myo directed them to a long hallway opposite the light wall. “Instead, I’ll show you the dorms and the locker rooms.” As they walked down the hallway, they found themselves passing by a number of dorm rooms, before reaching a reinforced door, similar to the large bulkheads of the airlock. Myo pulled out an ID card, and pressed it against the scanner at the door, causing it to rumble as it began to open. “Through here will be your dorms and your locker rooms.” The doors fully opened, and Myo ushered everyone in, before the doors shut behind them. “Each room has a PDA and a key card placed within it, on the desk. The doors are unlocked as of right now, but once closed, they will lock. Do not loose or misplaced your PDA, or you will be locked out of your room until we can get a new one for you.” She continued to walk, eventually reaching a fork, where the hall continued, or a new one began on either side. “Ahead are more dorms. To the right is the showers and bath, as well as the gym. To the left is the locker room, and the library. When you have time, I recommend you familiarize yourselves with the facilities, as they’re fairly high end.”

Vlad nodded, seemingly satisfied. “And we’ve got enough space for all of us?” He asked, glancing around.

“More than enough.” Myo confirmed. “This was built as a Recollection Facility within R-Corp for a reason. We had easily the closest relationship with the company, and it was made to be a launching point from which the company could rebuild in the event of catastrophic events.” She grimaced. “Obviously, that wasn't the case here, but it’s still serving its purpose in a roundabout way. Regardless, it’s equipped to handle nearly 6 full facility’s operations, which means its dorms have the space for upwards of 300 agents, and 600 clerks. It's a massive number that hopefully shouldn't be needed, but it’s got more than enough space to be able to handle you all.”

Vlad seemed mildly impressed by that fact, giving a satisfied nod. “And what exactly does Recollection Facility mean? I can make some guesses, but concrete information is always best.”

“A Recollection Facility is one specifically designed to be a launching base to rebuild operations. It comes with a number of features that other facilities don't have, the largest of them is the connecting rail tracks. The facility is connected to every other L Corp facility via a complex rail system designed to allow agents to reach collapsed facilities, suppress abnormalities, and bring them back to this facility for proper containment, so that the previous facility can be repaired and relaunched. It’s actually a very important step in the management process, and works to help offset our lack of extraction capabilities.”

“Extraction capabilities?” Aizawa asked, a slight frown on his face. “For seemingly not knowing much, you’re explaining quite a bit to us.” He pointed out.

Myo nodded. “Most of what I am explaining was told to us originally by either Kanami, Sako, or Huang. As all three were only Agents, albeit high ranking ones, much of their information is not concrete, and instead pieced together from the small parts that they did know beforehand. I don't want it to seem like we know nothing, we do know some things, but while myself and Hubert are the official sponsors for this, we aren't directly in command. We’re simply offering the contracts and providing the funds for the project. I know enough about the facility right now, but that’s fairly surface level things, or things that won't really matter when operations officially begin. As for Extraction Capabilities, if you’ll recall, I mentioned that Sako is the head of the Extraction Department. While in our case, it will be for weapons and armor, the Extraction Department during L Corp’s ordinary operations was also in charge of the acquisition of Abnormalities. As that is not something we are capable of, due to lacking the information necessary, our only way of obtaining new Abnormalities and increasing production is through retrieving them from other branches.”

Aizawa frowned, but nodded. There wasn't much they could do. “Do we have a moment for us to put our things in rooms?”

Myo nodded. “Go ahead, all of the rooms here are open, and you all are welcome to claim whichever one you want.” She stepped aside, and leaned against the wall, one arm guesturing out towards the rooms.

Almost all of their class turned to Aizawa, waiting for instructions. The man raised an eyebrow. “Go ahead and pick your rooms. I trust that you all will be responsible, despite not being separated by gender.” The man’s eyes narrowed at the end of his sentence, an implied warning being sent, but otherwise being content to allow them some freedom.

Quickly, groups formed, and friends set off to have their rooms near each other. Izuku found Uraraka, Iida, Tsu, and Todoroki all gather around him, as the rest of their class began to disperse. “Are we picking rooms near each other then?” He asked.

“Why not!” Uraraka said, seemingly excited at the prospect. “If we’re gonna be here for a while, we might as well set ourselves up to have some fun when we eventually finish for the day, no?”

Iida nodded. “Not only that, but I’m also certain you all will be much better room neighbors than others may be.” He grimaced slightly. “Though it is my duty to help every member of the class, I admit to being glad I do not have to dorm next to Kaminari anymore. He is far too loud late at night.”

Izuku laughed. “That’s definitely a bonus.” They all walked down the hall, seeing the dorms before the intersection all be quickly claimed. “Down the corner?” Izuku asked as they reached the cross section. He had pointed towards the right, which only had one door on either side, leading to the gym and baths respectively. At the end of the hall, the path forked once more, and held more rooms. For ease of access, the five picked the rooms right at the fork, and entering, with the intentions of putting their things down.

The room itself was about the same size as the UA forms, albeit slightly more cramped. The bed was tucked in a small alcove, a section of wall closing off the feet, and the desk being on the other side, in a similarly cut out alcove. At the other end of the room was what appeared to be a closet, but was seemed almost heavily reinforced. The doors pulled open with far more effort than one would usually need, and it revealed something closer to an empty armory than a closet.

As Izuku stepped in to look at it, he realized it wasn't quite as empty as he had first thought. Standing on the top of the dresser was an armband, similar to the one Kanami had on, although this one looked to be in perfect condition, and was different colors, being orange with a golden edge running on the top and bottom. The edge was decorated with vine like designs, curling outwards from the solid line, making it seem more significant. The lettering too, was different, holding an equally artistic M, rather than the D that Kanami’s faded one bore. Izuku stepped closer, picking it up, and feeling something inside a pocket. Gently pulling it out revealed a folded paper bearing a note.

Welcome to the facility

I both regret, and am glad that I get to say these words to you, even if they are simply through this paper. When I was first told that we would be coming back to L Corp, I lashed out, fairly badly. I have no doubt that I’ve continued to do so since, so apologies if it causes you problems in the future. It has not, and will not ever be my intention to do so. It was only when I learned of the arrival of UA that I truly began to calm down.

It was you who first said those words to me. Back when I first walked into the locker room. Back when I had no idea what was waiting for me when the day started up. You were the first person to truly welcome me, to give me advice and aid, and to fight alongside me. You were the first in a while. I don't know why I had gotten sent out of The City as soon as I had been hired, but you made the difference noticeable enough for me to still be grateful I had been, even in the depths of our facility. Even at the end, when the five of us fought side by side, and my final moments, allowing Sako one more chance, I never regretted it for a single second. That was your influence. You gave me a life beyond the hellscape I once knew that was The City

This isn't going to make much sense to you. I don't see why it would after all. You didn't come back with us. Come over I guess, because we didn't go back at all. It just felt like we did. The point of this note isn't to make sense, not really. I’m thanking someone who isn't here to recognize it, for actions he has not, and never will do. That’s okay with me. After all, this thanks is being given by someone who isn't entirely alive, and isn't entirely dead. I’m simply all that's left.

Anyway, even if you aren't the person I want to thank, you are still someone similar, who has simply gone through different experiences. I know that you’ll do those same, kind things he did, and that you’ll protect everyone around you, just the same. You held my faith in your hands for 42 days, and you protected it from the hell that surrounded us. So I will do anything I can to help you in turn.

This arm band is special. It’s not like the standard ones everyone else will be getting. This is my best recreation of your armband. It will change and modify itself to your current position within the facility hierarchy, so there’s no need to worry about standing out. But I have a feeling that one day, It will be able to return to the current appearance. It has a few more abilities as well.

You won't know what this means yet, but you will. This arm band is an EGO Gift. One from a specific Abnormality, one of the few that you can trust. Unlike every other piece that needs to be locked in the vault, this arm band will not corrupt you, no matter how much you wear it. Its goal is simply to protect you. Whether that be from corruption, physical attacks, nightmares or simply homesickness, it will attempt to do so. Keep it close. Always.

Juliet.

Izuku read the note with a slight amount of confusion, not understanding what almost anything mentioned was, or the significance behind it. He wasn't supposed to, he supposed. The note had pointed that out. Despite that, he couldn't help but be curious. One line in particular stuck out. ‘You didn't come back with us.’ The writer, Juliet later corrected that it wasn't exactly going back that had happened, but an analogue to it. Whatever it was, this Juliet seemed to have some connection to him. Was there an Abnormality or quirk that she had been affected by that allowed her to see the future? Would he eventually interact with her?

Regardless, he had spent too much time here. His friends and class were likely waiting. Izuku looked at the note one last time, and folded it back up, placing it in the drawer on the desk as he left the room. It was perhaps too soon to wear the arm band, the note having mentioned that he’d be getting a normal one soon, but he could tell there was some form of significance to it. Whoever had given it to him clearly meant for it to be important. He put it on his left wrist, just to judge whether or not he had the space to loop it, and wear it as a bracelet instead, when something happened. The band shrunk, and seemingly changed materials, turning from a cloth armband, to a rubber bracelet. Its color scheme stayed the same, but it now fit comfortably around his wrist.

As it finished adjusting itself, Izuku felt his mind calm, and his aches fade. It was subtle, but his fingers stopped thrumming with minor pain, and his mind settled. The band felt safe, wrapped around his wrist, and Izuku could almost immediately understand what the note meant about protection. It felt as if something more than just a bracelet were hugging his very existence, offering comfort, and the smallest bit of protection from the world outside. Izuku’s eyes widened, but he made no move to take off the band. Instead, he simply smiled after his shock wore away, and he mumbled quietly. “Thank you.”

He opened the door, to find Todoroki exiting his own room across the hall, and turning to the side showed Uraraka and Tsu in quiet conversation, with Iida waiting patiently. “Ah! There you are! All prepared to return to the class?” Iida asked, once he turned to see the pair. Izuku nodded, turning towards Todoroki, who did the same. The five returned to the main hall, and rejoined the group, which was still missing a few people. After a few minutes though, everyone had arrived.

Myo pushed herself off of the wall, and retook her position in front of the class. “Right, so, you all have two options. The first is to end the tour here, allow you to acquaint yourselves with the facility, and begin operations tomorrow.” Myo paused, allowing everyone to take that in for a moment. “On the other hand, it’s still early. If you all are ready, the facility is prepped to begin work already. Should you wish to, I’ll walk you through entering the production floor, and we can begin the cleanup.”

Aizawa turned to look at Vlad, with a raised eyebrow, before continuing on, to look at the class. “It's up to you all. Myself and Vlad will be there to help, but I don't want any of you pushing yourselves, especially with so many unknowns. If you don't feel comfortable fighting right now, just say the word.”

Izuku glanced around, feeling ready to begin himself, but not sure if the rest of the students would be willing to do so. It seemed they were in a similar boat as himself however, as none of them spoke up to voice issues.

Aizawa raised an eyebrow. “No complaints?” He asked, and still, no one spoke up. “Alright then. Head back to your rooms and change into your costumes. I’ll-”

“Actually,” Myo interjected. “You’re equipment isn't up to standard yet. It’s not EGO gear, which means most Abnormalities are going to rip through it like paper. Trust me, the bog standard EGO gear we have is going to be far better than your current equipment. Gear and tools can obviously be worn alongside it, but the actual armor or uniform itself is going to have to be remade as an EGO set by Sako before you should use it during operations.”

Vlad frowned. “And how long is that going to take exactly? Some of our costumes are vitally important to how we utilize our quirks.” The man said, referencing his own, among other members of the class.

“Malleable Enkephalin, what you extract for power, and is turned into the common EGO gear, is too fragile to deviate from the formalized uniform.” Myo explained. “Too far out of line, and the entire process would fail. Regretfully, in order to have your equipment remade as EGO gear, you’ll need to gather specialized Enkephalin, only obtainable through working with specific Abnormalities. That unfortunately means that in order to begin making your costumes out of EGO Gear, you’ll have to get the facility up and running beforehand, and have done enough work with the Abnormalities to fund it.”

Both teachers grimaced. “If anyone believes they cannot function without their entire costume, please tell us now.” Aizawa said.

Only one student stepped forwards, grimacing. “Me.” Tokage Setsuna said. “But I can just regenerate any hits I take. Armor has always been my weak point. It’s fine. I don't even know if this EGO gear can be infused with my DNA in the first place, so it might not be an option.”

“What exactly do you need your suit for?” Myo asked curiously, obviously going somewhere with it.

Tokage popped off her hand. “My quirk, Lizard Tail Splitter, allows me to disconnect and telekinetically control my body parts, and regenerate them upon destruction. It doesn't work on normal clothes though, so my costume has to be made from my own DNA in order to properly split alongside me, although it does mean I can regenerate it as well if it’s destroyed.”

“Might still be worth trying the EGO gear on. It syncs with your biology, according to our department heads, so it might be able to split alongside you.” Myo suggested. “You all have a few sets of underclothes in your dressers. They'll be able to fit all of your body types, so there should be no problems. Once you put it on, head to the locker room to put on the full set of EGO Gear and try out your…” Myo paused. “Quirk?” She asked, getting a nod from Tokage and continuing. “Try out your quirk. Once the full set is on, it should sync up to you, and might work with your quirk. No sense I'm not trying it if it could give you an advantage, no?”

Tokage nodded, looking skeptical, but willing to try. Izuku shared some of her skepticism, considering the involved process that DNA suit’s creation were. The amount of blood Tokage had to donate to create the first one was probably massive. For Myo to be claiming this all purpose EGO could do the same thing seemed insane. But at the same time, if she were right…

“Inside your lockers will be an empty key card and PDA. Insert the key card into it in order to properly set up your system profile, and claim your locker. For right now they’ll be unlocked, but In the future they’ll require either one to open, so make sure you don't leave them inside.” Myo said. “Go ahead and get going.”

The class began to disperse, heading back to their rooms. Izuku entered his room once again, and found the underclothes mentioned in the wardrobe, quickly changing to put them on. They were skintight, but with more than enough stretch to allow him full range of motion. He grabbed his costume case, bringing it with him so he could put on his support gear after putting on the EGO Gear. It was only when he left his room, to head towards the locker room that he realized something. Uraraka and Tsu had also left at about the same time as him, and while Izuku felt extremely exposed, despite the clothes going down to his ankles and wrists, he realized that the underclothes for them were almost identical to their normal hero costumes. Suddenly, the comment from Uraraka at the beginning of the year about her hero suit being tight made far more sense to Izuku.

Uraraka smiled shyly at him as he walked out

“Feels weird to be going to the same locker rooms.” She said. “Though I guess we’re technically changed already…”

Izuku rubbed the back of his neck. “Yeah… that’s definitely true.”

“Mineta better keep his eyes to himself, Kero.” Tsu grumbled. “I’ll hit him if he tries perving on us.”

Izuku sent a shaky smile her way. “I’ll just wrap him up in Blackwhip if he tries… Though I’m not exactly great with it… But he’ll have brought it upon himself.”

Tsu nodded, a relieved look on her face. “It's good to know you’ve got our backs.” She paused, before one side of her lips quirked up slightly. “Though I wouldn't object if you were the one looking.”

Izuku’s face immediately went red, and he started stuttering denials, causing both Tsu and Uraraka to start giggling. Eventually though, they reached the locker rooms, and entered. A few of their classmates were already inside, having opened and claimed their lockers. Shouji and Ojiro were among them, and thankfully, their underclothes seemed to adapt to their mutations, causing three distinct arms for Shouji, and a hole for Ojiro’s tail to appear. It was fairly likely that Iida’s engines would get a similar treatment if Izuku had to guess.

Walking further into the room, Izuku reached the first seemingly empty locker, and saw the digital lock on the front empty, where the prior ones had some of their classmates or sister Class's names. He pulled on the handles, and the doors unlocked with a click, with Tsu taking the one next to him, and Uraraka the next. The lockers were fairly large, with the doors holding things as well, seemingly to maximize space. On the right door was a key card, an armband similar to an untarnished version of Kanami’s, just with a blank red space where the D would have been, and a fairly large device, similar to a tablet, but much more reinforced and with a microphone and speaker system built into a section on the side. The left door was fairly barren, only containing a baton, but containing hooks, straps and shelves for a number of other things, likely where they would be storing their support gear in the future. Inside the main locker was a full, pristine suit, including a white dress shirt, a red tie, and black dress shoes. This was likely their EGO gear.

Izuku set his case down on the bench behind him, and began the process of putting on the EGO Suit. It was fairly easy to get on, actively confirming to his body type as he put it on, similar to the underclothes, making it a perfect fit. It was as he closed the buttons on the suit jacket that Izuku felt it. The sensation of the cloth on his skin seemed to melt into his senses, and suddenly, he could feel the air on it. No more did moving cause any of the slight rubbing of fabric, or the odd creasing in the shoulders or knees. The suit had seemingly become one with him, moving flawlessly with his limbs, and feeling like an extension of his own body. Izuku blinked, pausing in surprise, but he had yet another surprise, as the armband he had received in his armory shifted, sliding up his arm, and settling on his left shoulder, now displaying the same colors and design as the armband sitting in the locker.

Izuku was reminded that the letter had also mentioned the armband would adapt to fit whatever his current position within the hierarchy. At the current moment, Izuku would assume that to be the lowest of lows. After taking a moment to adjust to the new feeling, he grabbed his key card and PDA, slotting the card into the device. A menu popped up, asking him to create his profile, which was as simple as writing his name, before it asked him to register a locker. Izuku moved the PDA closer to the electronic lock on the doors of his locker, and with a soft beep, the screen showed a confirmation message, and asked him to remove the key card from the PDA. As he did so, and was thinking about where to put it, checking to see if his suit had any pockets, he felt a slight pressure on his left shoulder. Izuku glanced over at the armband, realizing that it likely still had the same pocket from earlier, and that it was probably supposed to be for the key card in the first place.

Izuku placed it inside the pocket, and continued to look for where to place his PDA, feeling around for a clip of some sort to possibly hang it from at his waist. As he neared the left side of his hip though, he heard a soft click, and the PDA seemed to magnetically lock into place at his side. Izuku tested pulling on it, but found it wouldn't come off. That was until he held the grip, and pressed the small levers in the back, which allowed the PDA to be pulled away easily. Taking a guess that the baton would be placed somewhere similar, Izuku found himself correct when it clipped into place on his other hip. Satisfied with that, Izuku turned around to his costume case, opening it up, and removing his gauntlets. Slipping them over his wrists, Izuku could feel the suit shift slightly to allow him to do so easier. Once he was done, he closed the case, and placed it in his locker for the time being, turning around.

Uraraka and Tsu were mostly done putting on their suits, with Tsu putting on her tie, and Uraraka making her profile on the PDA. Iida and Todoroki had also arrived, and were in the process of putting their own gear on. Tsu looked up from her locker after she finished buttoning her suit jacket, and grinned at Izuku. “You missed it, Kero.” She said quietly. “You’ll just have to be faster next time I suppose.”

Izuku’s face went red again, and he began to stutter out a rebuttal “I wasn't- I mean I didn't-”

Tsu rolled her eyes fondly. “I’m just teasing you. You’re all good Midoriya. I know you wouldn't do anything I didn't want you to.”

Izuku let out a sigh. “You scare me sometimes.” He said. “Joking around like that.”

Tsu raised an eyebrow. “I might be teasing you, but that doesn't mean it’s all a joke, Kero.” She said, before turning back to her locker, and beginning the process of setting up her PDA. Uraraka then came over, asking Izuku where to put the key card, as he slowly began the process of helping his classmates. Eventually, all of their group finished, and they exited the locker rooms, returning to the main hall. Already waiting for them was Aizawa and Vlad, both fully equipped already, wearing their support gear, Aizawa’s goggles and scarf, and Vlad’s gauntlet and blood pump, over their suit. They both seemed to be shifting slightly, testing the limits of their suits. They weren't the first of the class there either, as those who had been in the locker room before them had also been waiting.

Eventually, their entire class was ready, with Setsuna using her quirk to fly back over as confirmation the suit worked, which surprised Izuku, as well as a few others. It was certainly a good thing though, as Izuku already felt more durable with the suit on, although he wasn't sure how true that statement would be. Regardless, with the class fully gathered, Myo could help them get started on the first day. “Alright, everyone follow me.” She ordered, quickly turning around, and opening the blast doors to their section of the dorms.

Waiting outside of the doors was Kanami, who smiled upon seeing them. “Hey! I was told we were going to be getting started today. I’ll be explaining a few important things before we get started!” She said, walking backwards behind Myo, so that she was facing the group, while glancing over her shoulder every now and then. “Firstly, your EGO Gear! I’m sure many of you have already noticed it, but they feel almost like an extension of your body, right?” Seeing the nods and confirmations from the group, she continued. “That’s because in a sense they are. These EGO Suits, as Myo stated, are made from Malleable Enkephalin. Essentially, they are a bland, blank slate. EGO, as the name suggests, has a connection to personality, presence, and being. In this case, the blank EGO simply acts as a conduit for your own, making it feel like simply an extension of yourselves. That’s good for adjustment, but it’s also fairly weak, as you all haven't truly manifested your EGOs yet, and judging from what we’ve heard, won't ever. Later on, you’ll get more focused EGOs, made from specific Abnormalities, that gain a portion of their traits and sometimes powers.” Kanami paused, to make sure everyone was following her. “The most important thing though, that carries over to every EGO Suit though, is one specific trait. EGO Suit’s protect their wearer from injury, but not harm. Basically, it means that you can't be physically injured, preventing things like broken bones, cuts, or other forms of injury, but that you will still receive damage. Eventually, too many hits, and you will die, just like you would otherwise. The only difference is that where a bullet to the head won't kill you now, a million paper cuts might. You can monitor your health on your PDAs, as your suits have built in Bio-Monitors.”

As if on queue, most of them, including Vlad King, pulled out their PDAs, quickly finding the screen. Izuku found an option to display it on the inside of his right wrist on his suit, quietly glad for that fact. It would make checking it much quicker, especially in combat scenarios.

“You do have to be careful though.” Kanami continued. “These suits will not allow the wear to affect you whatsoever. You could be just barely on the cusp of life, and feeling like you’re in perfect condition. You will go from fine, to dead in an instant. Do not overestimate your resilience, and make a constant habit of checking you health in the middle of combat, especially after taking a hit. What feels weak might have been devastating.”

“I have a question.” Aizawa said. Kanami turned to him, and lifted a hand, prompting him to ask it. “What is this blue bar underneath our health?”

Kanami's eyes widened. “Excellent question. That bar is your sanity! I’m sure that nearly all of you will find your sanity between 95 and 100 percent. Without the influence of the abnormalities, even the most devastating events will still only cause it to dip towards the low 90s. When abnormalities are brought into the question though, things get different. During production, the abnormalities’ presence begins to saturate the facility, causing a unique effect to one’s sanity, allowing it to to be directly affected by certain circumstances. Dropping to zero has extreme effects, and causes the person to completely lose touch with reality, to a degree no normal level of psychological turmoil would ordinarily be able to cause.” Kanami grimaced, seeing many of the class get worried at hearing this. “Rest assured though, it’s fairly easy to recover from. The facility is equipped with Regenerators which spray the MedMist in higher dosages frequently, and this effect both recovers health, and sanity, allowing you to quickly recover.”

“And the final reason not to worry is because of the final location on our tour.” Myo interjected. They were almost to the large set of blast doors on the other side of the door. “Through these doors is the airlock for the facility. Today, you will be the only ones entering, but after that, the other staff will be joining you.” Myo swiped a key card at the pad, and the airlock opened behind her. She turned around, and walked inside prompting the class to join her. When inside though, instead of opening the other side of the door Myo walked over to the side of the airlock, swiping her pad against a plain section of the wall. A section of it pulled back, revealing another, smaller room. “One at a time. Plug your PDA into the pedestal, and press your hand to the pad. When it flashes green, exit the room and come back out.”

Aizawa and Vlad glanced at each other, before Aizawa went first. Shortly after he walked back out, nodding to the other teacher, who slowly instructed each student to go into the room one at a time. Eventually it was Izuku’s turn, and he stepped in. The room was fairly plain, seemingly only containing the pad and pedestal. He unclipped his PDA, and plugged it into the top of the pedestal, where the key card had gone before, then removed his left glove temporarily, pressing his palm against the pad. The room’s lights flashed green three times, prompting Izuku to unplug his PDA and exit the room, slipping his glove back on. Much like the border they had crossed before, this too was fairly short individually, but took far longer with nearly forty people.

“That has just keyed you into the TT2 system. If you’ll recall, Hubert is a manager of T Corp, otherwise known as TimeTrack Corporation. The TT2 system, developed by them, is one of their major products, and the final reason not to worry. In the event of one or more of your deaths, your managers may activate the TT2 system, and reset the day in its entirety. Should all of you perish due to a catastrophic event, the TT2 system will automatically activate. You all have been keyed into the system, as have Kanami, Huang and Sako, meaning that in the event of any resets, you all will retain your memories, allowing you to learn from the occurrence, and properly adjust to prevent such events from occurring again.”

This news caused nearly everyone in the class to widen their eyes in surprise. Time manipulation was something almost completely unheard of, even in quirks. For this facility to have technology capable of it was monumental. It was almost impossible for them to even process.

“One last message for you all!” Kanami said. “Not all of the abnormalities you might encounter will be hostile, but they all are dangerous. Be careful around them. Some are absolutely capable of aiding you, and even being allies that fight alongside you, so lashing out indiscriminately with violence is a bad idea. With that being said, they all possess the potential to seriously hurt you, so be careful, and don't let your guard down unless you know for a fact that they are safe. These things can go from being your best friend in one second, to trying to rip you open the next.” Kanami warned. “We don't know what’s waiting for you in there, only that the facility shouldn't have anything extremely dangerous. Your goal for the time being is simply to suppress each Abnormality, find an empty containment unit, and move their cocoon into it. Once all of the abnormalities have been successfully contained, you may return to this airlock to end the work day. After 10 minutes, to ensure safety, the airlock will open, allowing all personnel to exit the production facility. Good luck to you all!” She said, as she slipped past the class, and opened the original doors, heading back to the foyer with Myo, leaving them all in the airlock on their own, not sure what to expect on the other side.

Notes:

Hello everyone! I'm sorry this took so long but I have a whole bunch of things going on right now, so I don't have as much time to spend writing. I will hopefully start to speed up at some point soon though!

So! We get to see the introduction to the facility, and a few friendly faces! To those of you who have read Face The Fear, they may be familiar, and as such I'd like to take a moment to address that. Unfortunately, I have had to abandon Face The Fear, as the save file I was using for the game was corrupted a while ago, and I was unable to replicate the save. This story is in a way, a spiritual successor, with a little bit more going on behind the scenes, as some of you will likely begin to figure out.

We have our introduction to Kanami! a character with an odd form of infection or curse of some kind. You'll be learning more about that as time goes on, but Kanami is a rather upbeat character, who is trying to do what she can to help UA. She'll be rather important throughout the story.

I wont explain Sako, or huang as they'll be introduced later, but rest assured that yes, This is infact the same Sako Atsuhiro and yet... Isnt? Guess you'll just have to wait and see!

Anyways, thank you all for reading! If you noticed any spelling or grammar issues, please let me know, as well as any thoughts, questions, or theories! I love reading your comments!

I also have a discord server if anyone is interested in joining! We chat about this fic, and my other main ones, as well as other fics and recommendations. Loreweaver_Vex and Memoryhead have also gotten their own major sections for their own fics, so that's something to check out! It's also just a fun place to hang out and chat! If you're interested, you can join with this Discord Link

Hopefully I'll see some of you in there, but if not, I'll see you all in the next chapter! Have a good day!

Notes:

Hello everyone! Trying something new here! This idea stuck in my head, and I simply couldn't get it out! It's going to be an interesting journey!

I don't know how the update schedule for this one is going to go, because my intention rn is to update this when I get inspiration, rather than in the mix of the normal loop. We'll have to see though.
