Chapter Text
Jimin hops out of his bed with a huge smile on his face. Today is the day! He is finally old enough to participate in his pack’s mating run.
“Jimin-ah! Are you awake, dear?”
“Yes, mom!” Jimin calls out before opening his door and heading to the kitchen, where his Omega mother is preparing breakfast.
“Are you ready for today?” She says, glancing over her shoulder at him, giving him a smile before turning back around.
Jimin snags a piece of fruit before sitting down. “As ready as I’m ever going to be!” He smiles as he bites into the fruit. “I cannot wait to see Tae! I hate that we have to be apart.”
“You know as well as I do, that leading up to the mating run, unmated alphas and omegas have to remain apart . It’s tradition.” She turns away from the stove as she serves the food.
“Bu..but,” Jimin whines.
“No buts Jimin-ah. You know the rules. You will see Taehyung at the mating run today. Now eat. You will need your strength for later.” His mom says with a wink.
Jimin rolls his eyes as he piles his plate with food. These days apart from Taehyung have been absolute torture. He misses his best friend; his other half and his soon to be mate!
Ever since they were young pups who grew up next door to one another, they had been inseparable. Their Omega parents were best friends, so by default they became best friends as well. Soulmates really.
And this is the longest they have ever been apart. It is driving Jimin absolutely insane. He knows that it is tradition , but it doesn’t mean that he has to like it. Soon, he tells himself, soon he will be reunited with his TaeTae.
After eating his fill, his mother shoos him away. Instructing him to go get ready. Jimin grabs his robe and necessary bathing items and with a bounce in his step, makes his way to the Omega bathhouse.
Jimin can hear the chattering of voices as he approaches. The bathhouse is already busy with all those participating in this year's mating run. He nods his head in greeting as he makes his way to a small copper tub in the back. He pours the buckets of warm water into the tub before adding his own special blend of oils to the water.
Removing his clothes, he sinks down into the tub’s warmth. He truly cannot believe that he will finally become an ‘Omega,’ today. He will experience his first heat with his Taehyungie. Afterwards they will receive a home of their own. Jimin hopes it is near their parents so that they can visit easily enough. He already knows how he wants to decorate it!
Yellow curtains, the cozy rug from his current bedroom and the numerous blankets and furs he has been making and saving since he was a young pup. Plus all the things their Omega parents have been saving. Jimin cannot wait. He has only had this all planned out since like forever.
He is broken out of his musings when he hears a splash near him. He pops his head up from the tub to see his fellow packmate, Hoseok. “Ah Hobi, I didn’t know you were going to participate this year!”
“I’m not getting any younger. I figured it was time.” Hoseok says with a resigned smile, not quite looking Jimin in the eyes.
“Oh, do you have your eye on a certain Alpha?” Jimin asks as he runs a wet cloth over his arms, he looks over at his fellow Omega.
“Yeah– something like that,” Hoseok murmurs softly. His eyes focused on water in front of him.
Hoseok is being eerily quiet, which is odd in and of itself. Usually he is loud and full of life. Maybe he is just nervous for the upcoming run. Jimin cannot recall if he ever really saw him around any Alphas. He cannot help but wonder who the Omega will end up with.
Finished with his bath, Jimin steps out of the tub, reaching for the unscented towel he left nearby. He makes sure he is rubbed dry before donning his robe and heading back to his house.
In his room, he takes great care with rubbing a special blend of oil over his skin and scent gland to enhance his natural scent. Jimin puts on the designated outfit of Omegas participating in the mating run. A white flowy shirt with a deep cut v in the neck as well as white flowy pants with ties up the side. Next he dons golden anklets with bells on each ankle, they make a soft tinkling every time he moves. The Omega artfully styles his hair away from his forehead. He grabs the white crown of flowers awaiting him on the dresser, carefully placing it on his head.
Jimin is finally ready.
He leaves his room to find both his mothers waiting for him in the living area.
“Oh Jimin-ah, you look so beautiful,” his Omega mother croons as she wraps her arms around him.
“Mooommm,” he whines, pulling away, “you are going to get your scent all over me.”
“I’m sorry,” she pulls away, tears in her eyes as his Alpha mother wraps her arms around her to comfort her.
“My baby is just all grown up. Soon you are going to be an Omega in every sense of the word. I just cannot believe it.”
“Come on, jagi. We need to head to the stands. We will see Jimin-ah after.” His Alpha mother pulls his Omega mother away. Jimin watches them leave.
Jimin takes a couple minutes to himself, before making his way to the gathering place for Omegas participating in today’s run. He cranes his head around, trying to see if he can see any of the Alphas from here. He pouts when they are nowhere to be found.
Jimin knows the Alphas won’t enter the area until after the Omegas have taken off. It is how it has been done for years. But he was still hoping for a glimpse of Taehyung, to reassure him. This time apart has made him anxious.
The Omega Elder begins their speech, talking about the rich history of the mating run and its purpose. Jimin’s heard it all plenty of times before, so he tunes the elder out. He doesn’t have to worry about anything, he is to become mates with his best friend after all.
Tahyung and him have it already planned out. Once the ‘gates’ are open, Jimin will run toward the left of the path towards the woods, Taehyung will meet up with him there. Jimin will accept him as his Alpha, they will spend their heat and rut together– they will mate and become one. Together forever, just like they have had planned since they were pups.
Jimin feels a nudge at his shoulder, he looks over to see Hoseok holding out a steaming cup. Ah– yes, the heat inducing tea. All Omegas participating in the run are to drink it. By the full moon tonight, all their heats will begin.
At the elder’s cue, Jimin eagerly drinks down the tea, grimacing slightly at the bitter taste. And along with the other Omegas, Jimin takes his spot at the starting line, bouncing on his heels slightly as the nerves began to set in.
You have nothing to be nervous about. Just go to the left, like Tae and you planned. Everything will fall into place.
There is a hush as the Alphas enter the area, blindfolded. Jimin sneaks a peek behind him, smiling as he sees Taehyung. Soon– soon they will be mates.
“Omegas. Take your mark. In 3– 2– 1– GO!”
The ribbon falls and the Omegas take off, scattering in different directions. Jimin heads off to the left, according to the plan. There is a stamping of feet and the scent of heavy pheromones as the Alphas are released. Jimin runs a little harder, he doesn’t want to make it too easy on Taehyung. Even if they both already know what the outcome is going to be.
Jimin looks off to the side, seeing a couple of other Omegas already ‘caught,’ with their intended Alphas. He runs a little further, Hoseok is ahead of him slightly. The scent of mint fills the air, Jimin slows down a little, a smile on his face. Taehyung is finally here!
He goes to turn around to smirk back at the Alpha, when Taehyung suddenly rushes past him. What is he doing? Jimin’s jaw drops as his eyes bulge at the scene that is currently playing out in front of him.
Taehyung reaches out his hand and grabs the Omega just ahead of him, pulling him into his chest. Jimin freezes, his heart pounding in his ears. Did Taehyung just claim another Omega, right in front of him? Someone that is not Jimin? He watches in stunned silence as the pair takes off, holding hands.
What in the world is Jimin supposed to do now? This– this isn’t what they had planned at all? What is going on?
The omega hears footsteps behind him. Scared, Jimin takes off running into the trees, the soft tinkle of bells following him as he weaves in and out among the branches until he no longer hears anyone behind him. Panting, he leans against a trunk as he tries to catch his breath and to allow his mind to process what had just occurred.
Taehyung.
Claimed.
Hoseok.
Taehyung claimed Hoseok. Right in front of his eyes.
Why? Why would Taehyung do that? They had a plan. They were supposed to mate and be together forever. And now– Jimin doesn’t know what the plan is. The elder’s words start to come back to him. ‘All those that consent to participate in the mating run, will come out mated in the end. One has to be absolutely sure before they enter.’
So Jimin will leave the forest with a mate tonight. Just not the one he expected. Not the one that he wanted. Jimin didn’t even know of any other alphas participating, he didn’t pay attention because he didn’t need to– he had Taehyung!
The Omega hears a snap of a twig, bringing him back to high alert. Jimin scents the air, trying to get a read on who could be out there. However all he can smell is the woods, the Alpha must have a woody scent. Jimin racks his brain trying to figure out who that could be? Panicked, he cannot recall any alphas with a woodsy scent.
SNAP.
Jimin jumps as he spins around, eyes wide, before taking off running again among the trees. The soft tinkle of the bells around his ankle follows him.
Who is the alpha with the woody scent? Who else but Taehyung could possibly want him? Everyone knew that Taehyung and him were supposed to be together. The Omega can start to feel the fatigue setting in as he keeps running. He pauses every so often but when he can still hear someone behind him, it spurs him on to keep going.
The Omega doesn’t think he can keep on for much longer, though. Whoever it is, they have been tracking him for a while. Maybe they will be a worthwhile Alpha, they have come this far after all. And honestly, as Jimin looks around, he is not quite sure where he is at any longer.
He bursts through the trees and comes to an abrupt halt. There is a wide expanse of water in front of him, the leaves of the trees reflecting off its smooth water.
Jimin has reached a dead end.
SNAP.
Well this is it. Jimin closes his eyes as he turns around, not sure if he wants to face what’s ahead of him.

Yoongi took special care with his appearance this morning, wanting to look his best. He spent longer than he typically did in the bath, scrubbing himself clean in the lavender scented water, as well as making sure to get the dirt out from underneath his nails. Yoongi wanted – no he needed – to look as perfect as possible for his future mate.
The Alpha takes in his appearance in the small mirror available to him, making sure to style his hair over his right eye, effectively hiding away the scar there. Satisfied, he strolls into his bedroom, eyes locking in on the outfit laid out on the bed. A white linen vest and pants. The typical attire of an Alpha participating in the mating run. Yoongi cannot believe that it is finally happening…
That tonight he will finally lay claim to his Omega– Park Jimin.
The Omega whose scent reminds him of his Omega father; what little memories Yoongi has of him. He was found as a young pup on the outskirts of the Song Pack’s territory. The young Alpha was half feral at the time and had been alone for who knows how long; a large cut over his right eye.
The hunters dropped him off at the healer’s hut, and that was that. One of the healers took pity on him and brought Yoongi home. Raising him on the outskirts of the town, teaching him the ways of herbalism; how different flowers, plants and herbs could be used. With time, the feralness left him, but the scar over his right eye never went away. It was a reminder that he was different. And the one thing the Song Pack didn’t like was wolves who were different.
A majority of the pack kept their distance away from Yoongi– which didn’t bother him. He didn’t like interacting much with others anyways. He was fine with keeping to the outskirts and dealing primarily with the healers when he was in town, remaining ever the outcast.
However, Yoongi could not help but notice the Omega Park Jimin when he made his trips into town. His beautiful face and tinkling laugh captured Yoongi right from the start, but his scent , that was what really sealed the deal. He tried to learn what he could about Jimin from the healers, but Yoongi also heard the whispers and the gossip. How Taehyung and Jimin were to be mated at the next run. They were soulmates afterall.
The Alpha knew better however, being the pack’s outcast had its perks. One of them being that majority of the pack chose not to pay attention to him. Yoongi knew how to move quietly, and how not to bring attention to himself. That is also why he knew that Taehyung and Jimin were not going to be mated.
Yoongi had observed, several times, Taehyung sneaking off into the woods with a certain strawberry scented Omega. Both returning with their clothes rumpled and their lips swollen. Their eyes shined as they looked upon each other. Oh yes– Yoongi knew that Taehyung and Jimin would definitely not be mating, contrary to what the rest of the pack believed.
So, when it was time for the next mating run, Yoongi made sure to put his name down– but only after he knew that Jimin had signed up. This would be the only chance that he would get to claim his Omega, he was not going to pass this opportunity up… Park Jimin would be his.
Yoongi made his way to the special holding area for the Alphas participating in the run. Emotions were already high, pheromones all over the place, scents tinged with anticipation for what was to come. The scarred Alpha ignored the questioning looks sent his way and kept to the edge of the crowd. His eyes tracked Taehyung as he walked about, knowing that this Alpha would lead him to his Omega.
The Alpha elders appeared, silencing the group of Alphas. They droned on about the mating run as their attendants passed out the rut inducing tea, along with black blindfolds. Even though Yoongi loathed the idea of losing his vision, he knew it was a necessary evil. He makes sure he is near Taehyung as he carefully ties the blindfold around his eyes and grabs a hold of the lead rope.
“Okay Alphas! It is time. Keep a hold of the rope and don’t remove your blindfolds until you are instructed to do so.”
The walk to the start of the run gives the Alphas time to reflect on what is to come. Yoongi can feel his inner Alpha start to get antsy as the nerves settle in. He cannot believe that by the end of the night he would be bound to his Omega.
Yoongi’s ears hear the call of the announcer, signaling the start of the run, followed by the sound of running footsteps as the Omegas take off.
“Alright, Alphas! At my count, remove your blindfolds and take off. Remember you and your mate must return back to the community center by tomorrow afternoon.” Yoongi could feel his heartbeat quicken as the anticipation set in. “And 3– 2– 1! GO!”
Yoongi quickly removes his blindfold, blinking as his eyes readjust to the light. He immediately finds Taehyung, determined to keep him in view. He keeps pace behind the young Alpha, making sure to follow only a couple steps behind.
There in the distance he spies his Omega. He watches as Jimin turns around with a gorgeous smile on his face. Yoongi knows that smile is not meant for him, but rather for Taehyung, but it still makes his heart race all the same. And he watches as Jimin looks on in disbelief as Taehyung runs past him, to claim the strawberry scented Omega.
Yoongi elbows another Alpha out of the way when he notices her eyes lock onto his Omega. Jimin is mine, he yells in his head. But the scuffle must have startled the Omega, because he turns on his heel and takes off further into the woods. What Jimin doesn’t know is that Yoongi knows these woods inside and out.
Yoongi looks around to make sure there are no other Alphas ready to give chase. Seeing that everyone else is rather occupied, Yoongi takes off after Jimin. He makes sure to stay far enough back so as not to alert the Omega. Using his knowledge of the woods, Yoongi is able to somewhat steer Jimin to where he wants him to go, right towards the lake.
The Alpha prepared everything ahead of time, wanting everything to be perfect for his Omega, wanting him to be comfortable. No one ever came this way, so Yoongi was certain they would be alone. He left some blankets and furs a couple days ago.
As they both near the lake, Yoongi slows down, knowing eventually the Omega will run into the body of water, and have nowhere else to go. Just as he planned. As he approaches the lake and finds the Omega standing there at the shore, Yoongi makes sure to be ‘noisy,’ not wanting the Omega to be caught completely off guard. Jimin turns, his eyes wide and scared, as he sees Yoongi.
“Hello,” the Alpha murmurs with a slight bow to his head, holding his hands out in front of him. Jimin just stares at him, eyes roaming over Yoongi as recognition sets in. Yoongi didn’t want to frighten the Omega, so he holds off on moving nearer; they just stand there staring at one another. “Do you accept my claim?” he murmurs softly, taking one step closer.
Jimin glances around, as if checking to see if anyone else was coming. He takes a deep breath before answering. “Ye..yes, I accept,” the Omega whispers, his eyes downcast as he twists his fingers.
Yoongi approaches him, letting out calming pheromones as he approaches. When he is right in front of Jimin, he inhales deeply, briefly closing his eyes as that delicious citrus scent runs over him. Taking another step closer, he bends his head so that his nose rubs along Jimin’s scent gland, letting more of the Omega’s citrus scent out. Yoongi feels his fangs lengthen as he opens his mouth and lays a claiming bite. Jimin gasps, before going limp in Yoongi’s arms.
The Alpha gently picks the Omega up in his arms and carries him over to a little lean-to, off to the side of the lake. He sits him down softly, allowing him to lean against the side as he readies the area. Yoongi grabs a couple furs from the basket, laying them down on the ground, before adding some soft blankets. Heat coils along his lower back, his rut will hit soon.
Moving quickly, Yoongi starts a small fire to ward off the chill of the night, while he is still in his right mind. He surveys the area one last time, making sure there is no one else in their vicinity. Next, he lifts Jimin again, this time laying him down softly over in the furs he had arranged.
“God, he is so beautiful,” Yoongi mutters to himself as he takes in his fill with his eyes. Jimin’s hair looks so soft, and he aches to touch it and realizing that now he can, Yoongi reaches out his hand. Running his fingers through Jimin’s hair. Trailing a finger down the Omega’s plump cheek next.
Jimin instinctively nuzzles into Yoongi’s hand, a slight whine from his lips, even in sleep. He notices the faint sheen of sweat on the Omega’s brow, Jimin’s heat will be here soon, too. Yoongi looks up to the sky, noting the position of the sun. By his calculations their heat and rut will start within the next half hour. And Yoongi would know– he is the one that supplies the herbs needed to make the heat and rut inducing tea.
And right on time, Jimin’s eyes shoot open, glowing blue as the heat finally hits him. Yoongi is sure at this point that his eyes are glowing gold as he feels the rut taking hold. He tries to keep his wits about him, but as Jimin continues to let out his heat pheromones, Yoongi knows that he is only so strong.
“Alpha,” Jimin whines as he crawls to Yoongi. “Alpha,” he repeats again as he buries his nose in Yoongi’s neck, inhaling deeply. Yoongi tilts his head to the side to give him better access.
“Omega,” he rumbles deep in his chest. He can feel his sense of self leaving as his Alpha takes over.
The mating is upon them…

Chapter Text
The light of the morning sun wakes Jimin the next day. Opening his eyes, he sees the remnants of a fire before him and the calm water of the lake. The Omega winces slightly as he tries to move. Every part of him aches, almost like he has been through battle. However there is a twinge to his neck that just won’t quit, he reaches his hand up and when he pulls it back there is dried blood on it.
Staring at his hand, Jimin jumps when he hears a loud snore beside him. Glancing over his shoulder, he sees the Alpha that claimed him, the outcast. What was his name again? The Omega racks his brain trying to figure it out, he knows that he has heard of this Alpha before, but the name was eluding him. Jimin had mostly kept to his little circle of friends, but he knows that he’s definitely heard of him. Now he just needed to remember what.
Jungkook and Taehyung, his heart aches a little thinking of his best friend, sometimes talked about the Alpha that lived on the outskirts of town. Seokjin had once chimed in that the Alpha was knowledgeable on all different types of herbs, and often interacted with him in the clinic. But what was his name? His name– it was– it was umm– his name is– Yoongi! That’s it! The outcast’s name was Yoongi.
Feeling better, now that he could recall the Alpha’s name at least, Jimin takes his time assessing the Alpha’s features, taking in everything while the man is unguarded and sleeping. The Alpha - Jimin admits - is not completely unpleasant to look at. He has a nice bone structure, and his nose is cute. Also Jimin is pretty sure he has never seen such long lashes on an Alpha before. The scar bisecting his right eye is a little off putting, but at the same time gives the Alpha character. Jimin inhales, ah– that’s his scent. A mixture of earth and wood, slightly musky with a hint of spice. It is so much clearer now that they are by the water. It was the same scent he smelled tracking him the previous day. Jimin just thought it was the woods– but he was wrong.
Turning his gaze back to the Alpha’s face, he is startled slightly to find the pair of dark eyes looking back at him. Jimin didn’t even realize that the Alpha was awake. The Omega’s tongue feels heavy in his mouth at the Alpha’s intense gaze, he tries to speak but no words will come out. His eyes widen as he watches the Alpha push himself up to a seated position. Jimin pulls the blanket around himself a little closer.
“The bite is healing nicely,” the Alpha murmurs softly before turning away from Jimin to rummage through a basket Jimin didn’t even realize was there. His eyes quickly glance around the shelter, he realizes the Alpha must know this place. The Alpha pulls a jar from the basket, holding it out to Jimin. “Here is a salve to aid in healing the bite, it is good for bruises as well. And it will also take some of the pain away.”
Surprised, Jimin grabs the jar, “Th..thank you.” Under the watchful gaze of the Alpha, Jimin dips his fingers in the salve and applies it to the bite on his scent gland, feeling almost immediate relief. Knowing now that it is not some type of hoax, Jimin quickly applies more salve to all the bruises he can see.
“Um– you missed, ah–” The Alpha gestures towards Jimin’s body. Wordlessly, Jimin hands over the salve to the Alpha, who dips his fingers into the jar and spreads the salve over the nape of Jimin’s neck.
Jimin cannot help the slight gasp that leaves him at the Alpha’s touch.
“We should head back soon.” The Alpha murmurs as he pulls his hand away. His eyes not quite meeting Jimin’s as he looks out towards the lake.
“Okay.” Jimin replies, he can feel a slight flush to his cheeks. His mind is muddled with confusion. Maybe the walk back will help clear it.
The Alpha gathers his clothes and steps out of the lean-to, giving Jimin privacy, which he is thankful for. He can hear the splash of water and oh, how he is jealous. Washing up sounds heavenly right about now. However, the Omega wants to return to town as soon as possible, so he scurries to put his clothes on. Jimin wants to talk to his mothers before he has to leave for his new house. Maybe they can help him figure out what the hell happened yesterday.
Once dressed, Jimin leaves the little shelter. The view is actually quite beautiful here, with the tall trees, various flowers of all colors and the beautiful lake. It’s truly a sight. Plus the air smells fresh– clean– not tainted by all the different scents of the town. Jimin searches his memory, he cannot recall anybody in the pack talking about this place, which is odd because it is so beautiful. However his new mate seems familiar with the area.
“Are you ready?” Jimin looks over to see his mate staring at him. He gives a short nod of his head and then they are off.
The Omega follows the Alpha back through the forest. There’s a somewhat stilted and awkward silence between them– Jimin didn’t know what to say to his new mate who was also, basically, a stranger. Even if he does so happen to hold that stranger’s claim on his neck, after a night spent together.
As they continued on, Jimin began to realize how far they were out into the woods. Maybe that is why none of the others knew about the lake– it was simply too far from town. In silence, they walk together to the community center. Jimin tries to ignore the whispers happening around him; the stares from the villagers.
The Omega and Alpha elders greet them as they enter. If they were surprised to see the two of them together, they hid it well.
“Congratulations on becoming mates. May the Moon Goddess bless your union. Now where will you be residing?”
“My residence,” Jimin’s new mate replies. The Omega had forgotten that the Alpha already had a home on the outskirts of town. Jimin is going to be even further away from everything that he knows. The thought slightly terrifies him.
“You both are excused from your duties for the next moon cycle. Spend this time getting to know each other. We will see you afterwards.”
Jimin and his mate both bow their heads before exiting the center. His mind is reeling from everything. He doesn’t even seem to notice when the Alpha guides him towards his parent’s home.
“Um– I’ll meet you here in a couple hours?” The Alpha murmurs softly, his eyes looking up to the porch as Jimin’s mothers step outside.
“Okay,” Jimin whispers back. As soon as the words are out of this mouth, the Alpha turns on his heel and leaves. His quick departure makes Jimin’s inner Omega whine, however his human side is thankful. He rushes up the stairs into his mother’s awaiting arms, tears beginning to form in his eyes. He greedily inhales deeply, taking in the scent of home.
His Omega mother speaks first, “Oh Jimin-ah, my poor baby, let’s get you inside.”
“Yes, away from prying eyes,” his Alpha mother murmurs. Jimin turns his head to see several pairs of eyes on him from curious neighbors. He’s pulled inside and the door shuts.
“Are you okay? That Alpha didn’t hurt you did he?” His Omega mother frets over him. Her eyes scan over his features, taking his appearance in, her eyes zeroing in on the bite mark on his neck.
“I’m fine mom, I promise. He– I consented to everything. He asked and I agreed. You know as well as I do, that once you enter the mating run…” Jimin turns away from her and curls into himself.
“I know my dear, I know.” His Omega mother pulls him back into her arms. “But Jimin-ah, what about Taehyung-ah? I just don’t understand.”
“I don’t know mom, he just didn’t want me, I guess. Taehyungie– No Taehyung chose someone else . I don’t know what else there is to understand. I– I don’t want to talk about it anymore. I just want to wash up. Please.”
“It’s alright, darling. You go do whatever you need to do,” his Alpha mother reassures him with a gentle squeeze to his shoulder before she pulls his Omega mother away.
Jimin can hear their faint voices as he heads to his room. He takes a good look around the room, because he knows after today, he will not see it for a while. His eyes scan his shelves full of knick knacks he gathered over the years. A worn yellow blanket on his bed, books crowding his shelves. He shakes his head, pulling him back to the task at hand.
The Omega quickly grabs a clean set of clothes, but then freezes. Jimin knows he’s not ready to face the Omega bathhouse quite yet. All those prying eyes. The braver few will ask questions, and he just cannot handle that right now.
He opens his bedroom door. “Mom, could you bring a basin of water so I can just wash up here?” Jimin asks, his voice small.
“Of course, dear.” His Omega mother calls back, “Let me heat some water up for you.”
After his mother drops off the basin water, Jimin starts to cleanse himself, taking care as wipes the cloth over himself. He grimaces at the dry remnants of the previous night’s coupling, streaked across his inner legs. He moves his hand to wipe at his scent gland, but his inner Omega makes him stop. Maybe it’s best to leave that part alone. He doesn’t like the idea of the Alpha’s scent leaving him quite yet. The claim– it's still fresh.
After washing up the best he could in the basin, and changing his clothes, Jimin went around his room and started to gather things to take with him to his new home. Well– his new home for the duration of the moon cycle, at least. He had already packed earlier in the week, expecting to be moving into his new home with Taehyung… but that is not the scenario he’s in now. Jimin looks over his bundles and starts taking things out, as well as adding new things. Tears run down his cheeks onto his hands; he didn’t even realize he was crying.
Leaving the bundles, Jimin drops down into his nest, wrapping his arms around his knees as he continues to cry. He just doesn’t understand where things went so wrong, why did everything change? Why did Taehyung not want him? He claimed someone else right in front of him. Why– why didn’t Taehyung say anything?
Jimin had thought of them as best friends– soulmates– so why didn’t his soulmate tell Jimin that he didn’t want him anymore? He could have told him. Jimin’s heart feels like it is breaking in two. He cries into his legs, mourning what could have been. Now he holds a very different Alpha’s claim on his neck.
Tap– tap– tap– “Jimin-ah, it’s almost lunch time.”
“I’m not hungry, mom.”
“Jimin-ah, you need to eat and– it’s our last time to eat all together–”
That statement causes Jimin to react and he pulls his head away from his knees. That’s right, it is his last time to share a meal with his mothers for a while. He rubs at his eyes to wipe away the tears. He knows when his mate returns, Jimin will have to leave with him to his new home. To begin their new life as a mated couple.
“Coming mom.”

As Yoongi turns away from the Park home, his Alpha howls at him. Annoyed that it is so far away from its mate. He grits his teeth and presses on because Yoongi knows it is for the best. His new mate needs this time with his mothers before they leave for Yoongi’s homestead, where they will be together for the next moon cycle.
The Alpha doesn't tend to spend a lot of time in town, therefore he is at a loss for what to do to kill time. He lets his feet be his guide and ignoring the inquiring gazes of the pact, Yoongi finds himself in front of the clinic. Maybe Seokjin would be in; he is one of the easier healers to deal with, even if he does talk incessantly.
Yoongi pushes open the door and has to stop himself from letting out a sigh of relief when he immediately recognizes Seokjin’s scent. The familiar honey scent is almost soothing, in a way, to the Alpha.
“Ah– Yoongi-yah,” Seokjin walks over to greet him, clapping a hand to his shoulder, “I was wondering if I was going to get to see you today. You have already caused quite a stir, returning with Park Jimin like that. Now– that’s a story I do want to hear.”
“Hmm,” he mumbles, avoiding Seokjin’s knowing gaze.
“But, perhaps you two are not as much of a stir as our dear Taehyungie and Hobi are. No one saw that coming– well, no one saw you returning with Jimin-ah either. So much money was lost in the betting pools… So?”
“So what?” Yoongi levels Seokjin with a stare. Most would turn away from the scarred Alpha, but Seokjin just laughs.
“Don’t leave me in suspense, Yoongi-yah. I want to know!”
“There is no story to tell. I entered the mating run and returned with a mate. The same as any other mated couple that entered.” Yoongi walks over the various jars littering the shelves on the wall. “Anything I need to be gathering, be on the lookout for or need to bring the next time I’m in town?”
Seokjin sighs, knowing full well that he isn’t going to be able to get a story out of the Alpha today. “Very well. We could always use more pain salve, and more herbs to replenish what we need for all our various teas. We have plenty enough to get us through the next moon cycle, so no rush. Take your time and really get to know your new mate,” Seokjin says while wiggling his eyebrows up and down.
Yoongi rolls his eyes with a huff. Get to know his new mate– where would he even start? The Alpha entered the mating run with a singular focus, to make Park Jimin his. But what he didn’t account for was what would happen after the mating run. Yoongi wasn’t Jimin’s pick afterall. The Omega consented, of course, he would never force himself onto anyone let alone Jimin. But deep down, Yoongi knows that he wasn’t the Alpha that Jimin wanted. Jimin was expecting Taehyung to be his mate. But plans change sometimes, and Yoongi is determined to show Jimin that he is the Alpha for him.
The door of the clinic opens and the wind carries in the scent of strawberries. Yoongi freezes, he knows exactly who that scent belongs to. His eyes glanced around quickly, noting that Seokjin is nowhere to be found of course.
“Oh–” The Omega is startled slightly when he comes face to face with Yoongi. “Is Jin hyung here?”
Before Yoongi can answer, Seokjin walks out the back room, calling out, “Ah– Hoba! What are you doing here?”
“I– umm– I am in need of some of your pain salve.” Yoongi can hear the nervousness in the Omega’s voice as his eyes flit to Yoongi and then back to Seokjin.
“Yoongi-yah, can you hand me the salve? It’s over near you.”
Yoongi turns around to grab the correct jar off the shelf and when he goes to turn back around, the door opens again, the scent of mint now in the air. Yoongi lets out a string of curses in his head.
“Jagiya, did you get…” Taehyung trails off once he notices Yoongi in the clinic. Yoongi cannot help but notice the matching pair of bites on the pair’s neck.
“I have it right here!” Seokjin exclaims as he takes the small jar out of Yoongi’s hand. “Here you go.” He shoves the jar towards the newly mated pair.
“Th..thank you.” Hoseok bows his head, grabbing a hold of Taehyung’s hand and hurriedly leaving the clinic with him.
“Well, that wasn’t awkward or anything…” Seokjin murmurs, shaking his head slightly. “Lunch is soon, do you want me to bring you something back from the dining hall?”
“Yes, please,” Yoongi hates going to the dining hall; Seokjin was well aware. Yoongi really disliked all the stares he got from the others. “Thank you.”
After Seokjin left,Yoongi meandered around the clinic. His eyes assessed all the different jars, making a mental note of what he needed to bring with him next time, to replenish their stores. Yoongi definitely wasn’t expecting to see Taehyung and Hoseok quite yet. He had figured it wouldn’t be until the moon cycle before he saw them again. The Alpha debates whether or not he should tell Jimin that he saw them and about the matching mating bites on their necks.
Alphas always claimed the Omegas, that is how it works in Song pack. However, only in certain matches does the Alpha allow the Omega to claim them back. It is not something that happens very often, and only occurs between pairs that are truly in love; those that never plan to never part from one another. Yoongi cannot help but run his hand along his bare scent gland. Maybe– maybe one day that will be him. He would gladly let Jimin claim him
“Yoongi-yah! I’ve returned!” Seokjin says with a flourish, bumping the door open with his hip, hands full with a tray of food. Yoongi rushes over to help the beta.
They eat in silence– well Yoongi is silent, Seokjin just continues to chatter away, as usual, in between bites of food. He fills Yoongi in on all the latest pack gossip.
Once he finishes with his food, Yoongi mutters out a quiet, “Thank you.” And he is– truly thankful for Seokjin. The beta is one of the few pack members that never judges Yoongi and always welcomes him unabashedly.
“I guess it is time for you to return. Be gentle with Jimin, you hear? This is a big change for him. Different from what he expected. It will take some time for him to adjust. Just be patient, okay?” Seokjin calls out as Yoongi heads for the door.
Yoongi pauses at the clinic door, nods his head in acknowledgement before taking off. The Alpha walks quickly back to the Park house, ignoring the lingering stares from people as he passes. After a short knock on the door, it swings open to reveal Jimin’s Alpha mother, her gaze intense as she levels Yoongi with a stare.
“Just a moment.” She turns to look over her shoulder, calling out, “Jimin-ah, your Alpha is here.”
Jimin appears, shortly after, with a couple bundles in hand, setting them down. “I– um– my things.” He says weakly. Yoongi does his best to avoid Jimin’s red rimmed eyes, his inner Alpha is calling out to him to console the Omega. He wants nothing more to do than to provide comfort to his mate, but he knows it will only upset the Omega further.
“I have a cart, I can go grab. Just–”
“Jimin-ah, why don’t you just take the essentials for now? After– after the moon cycle you can come back for the rest.” His Alpha mother offers as she lets loose calming pheromones.
“Okay.” Jimn looks behind him to, what Yoongi can only assume is, the way to his room. “Um, well I guess this is it then.”
Yoongi reaches down to grab the bundles, easily taking them in one of his hands. ”I’ve got them.” He doesn’t want his mate to have to carry things, if he can help it.
“Oh, my darling boy. I am going to miss you so much.” Jimin’s Omega mother wraps him up in her arms, scenting him quickly as tears stream down her face. “I love you.”
“I love you, too.” Jimin hugs his Alpha mother next, lingering as she scents him as well, before letting go. He takes one last look around his childhood home before stepping out the door and into his new life.
“I swear to take care of him. I promise.” Yoongi murmurs to Jimin’s mothers, bowing deeply with the bundles still in hand.
“Thank you,” Jimin’s Alpha mother responds, her arm wrapped tightly around her mate.
Yoongi turns to Jimin, “Ready?”
Jimin nods his head yes. They take off together, down the path, walking past the different homes, until they reach the outskirts of town. Jimin turns around one more time, a thoughtful expression on his face as he takes everything in. Jimin has lived in town his whole life, Yoongi knows that this is a big change for him. He waits for Jimin to finish.
Jimin turns back to face Yoongi, his eyes a little glassy. “Let’s go.”
Chapter Text
It feels like Jimin has been walking forever. Nothing but trees, trees and more trees. Don’t get Jimin wrong, the view is absolutely gorgeous, with the wild flowers intermixed among the trees. Everything was just so green!
It’s just that Jimin didn’t realize quite how far out of town the Alpha lived. Yes, he knew it wasn’t in town, just not this distant. It would be at least a couple mile trek to make it back into town. It wasn’t going to be as easy to visit his mothers as Jimin first thought, or for them to visit him. Was there some way he could get out of this?
Once they broke from the tree line, though, Jimin gasped. The clearing was absolutely beautiful. So many pretty flowers and rows upon rows of plants and herbs. Jimin recognized some of the plants, but most of them he didn’t recognize. Maybe at some point he could ask his mate about the rest.
NO! Jimin chastises himself. He just needs to make it through this moon cycle, then he could talk to the elders about breaking the bond and he could be reunited with Taehyung. Because certainly Taehyung wanted to be with him too, right? What happened yesterday wasn’t really supposed to happen. Severing a mating bond isn’t completely unheard of, it just doesn’t happen very often. Only in certain extenuating circumstances, and Jimin feels like this one qualifies.
The faint sound of a babbling brook also could be heard. Jimin cocks his head, he didn’t realize that they would be near water. That definitely made things quite a bit easier, not having to walk a far distance just in order to retrieve water. The Omega was a little confused however with the large wooden structure, shaped like a wheel, coming out of the water, but maybe he could figure that out later. Although, that might actually require him to talk to his mate .
Yoongi walks ahead of Jimin, up onto the porch and pulls the door open, bundles still in his hand. The Omega is honestly amazed that the Alpha was able to carry the bundles for such a long distance. They are not exactly the lightest things. He gives a stiff smile to the Alpha as he walks past him into the cabin.
Jimin could feel his eyes widening as he took his first look inside of the cabin. Jimin wasn’t entirely sure what he was expecting to see, but this wasn’t quite it. It was more than he realized. The interior had quite a homey feel and was quite a bit larger than the home he shared with his mothers. In the living area was a large bearskin rug in front of the fireplace, and around the rug was a variety of cushions and wooden chairs. Jimin even spied several baskets filled with yarn and blankets over in one corner.
He could imagine himself curled up before the fire there– the bearskin rug just looks so soft. His inner Omega is begging him to go feel it, but he shoves his inner Omega back down as he takes in the rest of the cabin.
Right off of the living area is a magnificent wooden table and chairs. Jimin cannot help himself as he walks over to run his fingers over the smooth wood. Beyond the dining area is the kitchen. Jimin sees various pots and pans hanging from a grate suspended from the ceiling nearby a small cooking fireplace and stove. Off to the side there’s a storage pantry. And there is a little portion of the corner with a small table and shelves full of various bottles. Must be where the Alpha dries his herbs.
Jimin walks back into the living area, stopping in front of a hallway full of doors. He counts at least five, why would a single Alpha need a home with five rooms? It just didn’t make any sense to the Omega. Then it dawns on him, the Alpha must want a family. Those extra rooms must be for pups. But five rooms? One for the mated pair and then four extra? That just seems like a lot.
“I will show you to your room.” The Alpha’s voice comes from behind him. “Follow me.” His mate takes off down the hallway, Jimin’s bundles still in hand.
My room? Jimin is not going to share a room with the Alpha? Not that he is complaining, it just seems odd. What kinda game is the Alpha trying to play?
The Alpha leads them down a hallway and opens the last door on the left. Inside is a fairly typical room with windows adorning two walls, a large sleeping mat on the floor, a small shelving unit along the wall and a set of drawers under the window.
“This is your room to do with how you see fit. I– I won’t step foot in here unless you give me permission to do so. I– I wanted you to have a space just for yourself.” Yoongi steps into the room briefly to set down Jimin’s bundles before stepping back out.
Jimin cannot lie, it was a thoughtful gesture but at the same time his inner Omega felt hurt that the Alpha didn’t want to share a space with him. The back and forth between himself and his inner Omega is starting to give him a headache. He shakes his head slightly, trying to clear away the thoughts. This is a good thing, Jimin tells his inner Omega. The less time spent together, the easier it would be to break the bond when it was time.
“If you need to wash up, or relieve yourself, the bathing room is through here.” The Alpha points to the door at the end of the hall.
“Bathing room?” The question spills from Jimin’s mouth before he could stop himself. He never heard of a bathing room being part of a house before. What is even a bathing room?
“Uh– yes.” The Alpha opens the door for Jimin to see inside.
On one wall is a large copper tub and beside the tub is a long wooden trough connected to a small and large barrel. Beside the barrels there are a bunch of smooth round stones, along with a small small stove. Jimin looks at The Alpha with confusion.
“The larger barrel is filled with water from the brook. You turn this here,” Yoongi points to a spigot. “And water will go into the smaller barrel. Put the heated stones into the water,” The Alpha gestures towards the stones and small oven, “and it will heat up the water. Then pull this up and the hot water will flow into the tub. When you are done, pull this stopper,” Yoongi points inside of the tub, “and the water will drain out and back into the brook.”
Oh– Jimin is in shock, that is rather quite genius. His eyes keep jumping between the tub, the barrels, the rocks and the small oven. Jimin could have a warm bath, without having to lug water back and forth from the kitchen.
“Over here you can relieve yourself, push the lever and the water will wash it away.” The Alpha points to what Jimin assumes is a chamber pot, but unlike any chamber pot that Jimin has ever seen before.
Jimin’s eyes flit back and forth between the different items in amazement. “Wow.”
The tips of the Alpha’s ears start to redden, it's kinda cute actually. Jimin instantly pinches himself to get that thought out of his head. You need to be keeping your distance, he reminds himself.
“I’ll take my leave. Give you time to get settled.” The Alpha hurries away and out the front door. Jimin just stands there slightly stunned. He looks around the bathing room one last time before returning to his room.
A sense of unease fills him, this room is so stale-smelling; unused and sterile feeling. It makes his inner Omega bristle, Jimin needs to fix this soon. The placement of everything just feels wrong. He begins letting his citrusy scent leave him, to get rid of the stale smell in the room, then he gets to work rearranging. He moves the drawers away from the window and nearer to the door. He drags the sleeping mat to the corner, bracketed by the two windows so that he could look outside from within his nest.
Next he reaches for one of his bundles and starts unpacking, throwing his blankets and pillows onto the sleeping pad, and putting his clothes away in the drawers. His nest comes together fairly quickly and the room begins to smell more like him, like home which brings some peace to his inner Omega. A smaller blanket, that smells like his mothers, he keeps near the top of the nest so he can smell home whenever he is sleeping.
Satisfied, he brushes his hands before setting them on his hips as he looks around the room. Jimin pouts a little when he looks over at the empty shelves. It just reminds him how he couldn’t bring any of his books with him. The emptiness of the shelves makes him feel uneasy. He faintly hears a door opening and closing. Maybe he can ask the Alpha for some books.
“You can do this, Park Jimin,” he whispers to himself. Steeling himself, Jimin opens his bedroom door and softly walks out into the living area. He spots the Alpha over in the kitchen fiddling with something.
“Ahem,” Jimin clears his throat.
The Alpha spins around, knife in hand.
Jimin freezes and his scent sours immediately.
The Alpha frowns when he notices Jimin’s scent, then he realizes what he is holding in his hand. He quickly drops the knife onto the counter and holds up both his hands. “It’s not what it looks like,” he replies gruffly, “I’m just preparing dinner. Um– do you like fish?”
“Oh– yes, yes I do. But you don’t need…”
“I’ve prepared dinner for myself all these years. I promise it is no hardship to prepare an extra portion.”
“Oh, thank you. That’s kind. I– I was wondering if you had some books or something I could borrow. For my shelves. It’s just so empty…”
The Alpha waves over to the living room. “Take whatever you need.”
“Thank you.” His mate turns back around and picks the knife back up.
Jimin hurries over to the shelf and peruses the titles. There was a good variety of everything, and Jimin spots his favorite romance book, quickly grabbing it along with a couple others. He glances over his shoulder to see the Alpha, still busy, and rushes back to his room.
Placing the books on his shelves instantly makes his Omega feel a little better. He plops down into his new nest, making sure not to disrupt the sides. He blankly stares up at the ceiling– everything that happened in the last 24 hours or so starts rushing back in. It’s been a very emotional and tiring day, especially these last several hours. Maybe a nap is just what he needs. Jimin can feel his eyes drifting shut as sleep overcomes him.

Yoongi can sense Jimin’s unease around him, and it was understandable. The Omega had been through a lot, including saying goodbye to his mothers and coming to stay in a new home. The Alpha had already prepared the fish– hence the knife. Now he just needed to prepare the rest.
Quietly, Yoongi heads back outside. The earthenware jars are towards the back of the house. Yoongi transfers some kimchi into a smaller jar before setting it aside on the porch. He walks through the garden next, gathering a variety of carrots, potatoes, zucchini and peppers into a basket. The Alpha carries everything indoors.
He gets to work chopping vegetables into smaller pieces. In a steady rhythm, Yoongi quickly puts the fish and vegetables together on skewers. He starts a small fire in the kitchen fireplace, placing a pot of rice over it and adding the skewers to cook alongside.
Yoongi turns away from the fire and inhales deeply, the faint scent of tangerines from Jimin is still present, making his Alpha ecstatic, even if there was still a faint scent of fear present. The tangerine scent meant that his Omega, his mate, was really here. Yoongi couldn't wait until the scent was embedded into every corner of the house.
He turns his attention back to the cooking fire, removing the skewers and setting them aside to cool. Next he checks the rice, it’s almost done. The Alpha goes to the cupboard, grabbing his nice plates, bowls and cups, setting the table. Checking the rice again and deeming it ready, he extinguishes the fire, letting the rice simmer a little longer.
It still feels like something is missing, so Yoongi quickly runs outside and snips a couple sunflowers, bringing them inside and placing them in a glass jar full of water. He puts the jar in the center of the table and gives himself a mental pat on the back. The Alpha brings the pot of rice, plate of skewers and jar of kimchi over, double-checking everything is in place.
Now it is time to retrieve his mate. Yoongi walks over to Jimin’s bedroom door and raps his knuckles against the wood. “Jimin, Omega, it’s time for dinner.” Yoongi cannot help but close his eyes and inhale softly, the scent of tangerines is stronger near the bedroom. Jimin must’ve nested, which makes his inner Alpha howl with joy. When there is no answer, he raps his knuckles again. “Jimin?” He can hear rustling on the other side of the door and the Alpha takes a step back right as it swings open.
It takes everything inside of Yoongi not to reach out and stroke the Omega’s plump cheek, he just looks so adorable. His hair is mused from sleep, eyes slightly puffy– but, thankfully, not red rimmed. There are slight indentations on his face where he must have been laying on his blakents. God, his Omega is so beautiful.
“What?” Jimin asks sleepily, his eyes still not fully open. Yoongi wishes he could’ve let him sleep longer, but he knows the Omega needs to eat something at least. It was a long run yesterday, and a long walk today.
“Dinner is ready.” Yoongi lets the Jimin pass by him first, clenching his hands to keep himself from reaching out and steadying him as the Omega stumbles slightly down the hall.
Jimin plops down into the first chair he comes to, his head resting on his hand with his eyes still shut.
“Jimin, Omega, wake up,” Yoongi chides gently as he takes his own seat. A soft smile on his face. Jimin was adorable, truly.
The Omega in front of him blinks his eyes open sleepily. Yoongi can tell when Jimin finally takes stock of what is in front of him.
“Oh–” Jimin eyes dart between the different dishes before he looks up at Yoongi. “You made all of this?”
“I told you, I’ve been cooking for myself for a long while. I promise it is no hardship. I just hope you enjoy it. If something is not to your liking, you can let me know. Is water okay?”
“Yes.” Yoongi pours Jimin a cup of water, before making the Omega a plate and passing it to him. His inner Alpha is soaring.
Jimin accepts the plate with both hands, “Thank you.”
They eat in relative silence. Yoongi doesn’t know how to make small talk or where to even begin talking to his new mate. More than anything, he just wants Jimin to be comfortable and happy; to want Yoongi and not regret their mating.
“Um– did you find a book that was to your liking?” He finally asks. Books are a safe topic and easy enough to talk about.
“Uh– yes. I found my favorite, and a couple others I’ve been wanting to read. You have so many.” Jimin looks up from his food, a hesitant smile on his face.
“I like reading. It helps to pass the time in the winter months when there is not a lot to forage or garden. Which one is your favorite?”
“Oh– ‘ Taming the Omega’s Fire’, I like romance novels. There is just something about them I cannot explain. True love and all that.”
“That’s a good one.”
“You’ve read it?” Jimin looks at him with surprise.
“I like reading. I enjoy a little bit of everything.” Yoongi leans back in his chair, belly full and content after a good meal.
“I see,” Jimin murmurs thoughtfully. “Well, thank you for the meal. It truly was delicious. I can do the dishes.” Jimin stands and reaches his hands out for the dirty dishes.
“Leave it.” Yoongi waves him off, “I’ll get to it later. I know it’s been a long day for you.” The Alpha begins to gather the dirty dishes. “It shouldn’t take too long for the water to heat up, if you would like a long soak.” Yoongi takes the dirty dishes over to the counter.
“Thank you for dinner.” Jimin says once again. Yoongi’s back is turned as he hears the Omega leave. He listens intently as several doors are opened and closed. Followed by the sound of running water. His inner Alpha feels proud at taking care of his Omega. Jimin liked the meal that he served and now he is using the bathing room. Yoongi cannot help the smile that won’t leave his face as he goes through the motions of cleaning the dishes.
Satisfied Yoongi heads over to the living area, picking up his latest knitting project before sitting on his favorite cushion. Most individuals think that knitting is a pointless endeavor for an Alpha, but in all honesty Yoongi truly enjoys it. It is a way for his mind to decompress and relax at the end of the day. Plus he has been working on this blanket with a certain Omega in mind.
Even though they are already mates, Yoongi still plans on giving his Omega courting gifts. Every Omega deserves gifts, plus he wants Jimin to know just how serious he is about their mateship.
The Alpha hears doors opening and closing again. Jimin must be done with his bath. Yoongi puts away his knitting before heading to the bathing room. The scent of tangerines is very prevalent in the air, Yoongi inhales deeply. He fills a wash basin and quickly wipes himself down, planning to take a more thorough bath tomorrow after foraging in the woods.
Yoongi whispers a soft, “good night,” outside Jimin’s door before retreating to his own room. One day soon he hopes that the Omega will share this space with him. He is a patient Alpha and he will bide his time.
The Alpha awakens the next morning before the sun. He makes a quick porridge, leaving it on the warming stones to stay hot until Jimin wakes up. He goes through his mental checklist of all the different herbs and flowers he needs to find today to replenish his stores.
With one last look down the hallway, Yoongi heads out the door and makes his way into the woods. He hopes that Jimin might appreciate the time alone to familiarize himself with his new home.
Chapter Text
Jimin rolls onto his stomach as he snuggles into his nest a little deeper, smiling as he smells the scent of home. Honestly he was surprised at how well he slept the night prior. He figured with being in a new place and all he would be anxious, but having scents from home did help. Groaning, Jimin pushes himself up and out of his nest. He quietly peeks his head out his bedroom door, listening for the Alpha. Not hearing anything, he sneaks into the bathroom and relieves himself.
Washing his hands, Jimin looks over and cannot help but marvel at the tub. It is truly unlike anything he has ever seen before. It was so nice to relax in the hot water after everything he had been through the previous day. It was even nicer that he didn't have to lug the water to the tub himself. But maybe what was the nicest was that he did not have to share the space with others. It was actually quite refreshing being alone for a change. Jimin had spent most of his life surrounded by others all the time, he didn’t realize how much he would like being alone.
The Omega poked his head out of the bathroom before sneaking back into his room and quickly dressing for the day. Not hearing anything that would indicate the Alpha is home, Jimin decides to be brave and leave his room. His stomach lets out a loud growl, solidifying the decision. He makes his way to the kitchen, where he finds a pot of porridge left warming for him.
Jimin is surprised to say the least. He didn’t expect his mate to make him breakfast as well. Did the Alpha not think he was capable of handling meals? Jimin knows he is a very capable Omega, but did his mate not realize that? The Omega helps himself to a bowl and if he moans a little at the taste, well, there is no one there to know.
Which brings him to a very good point– Where is his mate this morning? The Alpha had to have been so quiet this morning, because not only did Jimin not hear him moving about, but apparently his mate had also had enough time to make breakfast. Finishing the porridge, Jimin quickly rinses the bowl before leaving it dry. He makes his way over to one of the windows and peers out. Still no sight of the Alpha– strange . Jimin decides to explore his new home while he is still alone.
The Omega returns to the kitchen, looking through all the different cabinets and drawers, familiarizing himself. The Alpha had several things that Jimin didn’t even recognize, which made him even more curious. The pantry was fully stocked with a multitude of things. Jimin wouldn’t have to worry about ever going hungry here, that’s for sure.
Jimin meanders over to inspect the Alpha’s workstation next. There were already a variety of herbs drying out; plus so many jars! Jimin’s eyes skimmed the different labels, shocked at how many he saw. Over to the side were sets of canisters that seemed to hold different tea blends. Several Jimin recognized because he had purchased them before. Jimin hadn’t realized just how much his mate supplied the clinic with herbs and teas.
Next he wanders over into the living area, tentatively trying out each of the different cushions. All of them were extremely soft, which made his inner Omega extremely happy. Jimin ran his fingers over the many blankets in the corner basket; some made with yarn, some quilted, and all of them beautiful. He briefly contemplates stealing one for his nest but quickly shoots the idea down. He doesn’t need to get too cozy while he is here, it will make it easier when he is to leave after the end of this moon cycle.
Jimin doesn’t feel comfortable enough to go through the other rooms of the cabin just yet. He doesn’t want to end up somewhere that he is not supposed to go and anger the Alpha. So instead, he ends up looking out the window, taking notice that it is a fairly nice day outside. Mind set, Jimin slips on his boots and heads out the door.
The Omega is still in awe when he steps outside. There is just so much green! And other colors as well! With all the different varieties of plants and flowers around, the air seems fresher here somehow, more clean, compared to the air in town. In town, there is always a cacophony of scents; all melding together. He hadn’t realized how overbearing all the different scents were when combined together.
He steps down from the porch and that’s when his eyes find the sunflowers. Ah– that must be where he got them from. Jimin had always had a special place in his heart for sunflowers.
Jimin walks among the other flowers that surround that house, running his fingers over their petals and leaning in to take in all their different scents. The Omega has always been a fan of flowers, but there was no place back home for him to have a garden. So, right now, having a garden at his fingertips (even if it was only temporary) seems like quite a nice feature. But what does his mate need with all of these flowers? Not all of them serve a medicinal purpose, do they?
Jimin continues to walk among the rows, marveling at the variety. And he might have also stolen a strawberry or two– they just looked so juicy on the vine. The taste was absolutely exquisite. Next Jimin walks over to the side of the house, noting a wooden shed, ah that must be where the gardening stuff is kept.
Behind the house sits the brook, and Jimin can see the way the different ‘pipes’ lead from the house to the water. He listens to the sound of rushing water from the wheel that keeps spinning. So that is how he gets water into the house. It’s genius really.
As Jimin continues to make his way further out back, he sees it – His eyes going wide at the sight. How ever could he have missed this before? There– past the garden and crops, near the brook, sits a little wooden gazebo. It’s surrounded by lilac bushes and in the center is a wooden swing. The Omega walks over to it quickly, inspecting every inch. This would be the perfect reading nook! The scent is pleasing, the sound of the running water is relaxing and, oh, how he loves to swing.
Excited, Jimin runs back to the house and into his room, grabbing his favorite book and a light blanket before rushing back out. Glancing around, he still doesn’t see the Alpha, so he makes himself comfortable, opens his book and starts to read. The gentle swinging motion of the swing is so soothing.
He’s so absorbed in his reading, the Omega doesn’t even notice how high the sun is getting in the sky, nor the sound of footsteps approaching. Jimin is at his absolute favorite part of the story, when he hears a throat clearing, causing him to jump. He ends up throwing the book into the air and falling out of the swing.
“Oh! I’m sorry.” The Alpha rushes forward, his hands running over Jimin’s arms, checking for any injury, making sure he is okay.
“I’m fine.” Jimin groans, rubbing at his tailbone. “Just help me up, please.”
The Alpha helps him stand and Jimin can feel himself start to flush. He bends over to grab the fallen book and to dust off his pants. “Are you okay?” The Alpha asks, worry playing over his features.
“I promise, I’m fine. It’s not the first time I've fallen out of my seat, nor will it be the last.” Jimin continues to rub at his sore bottom. Inwardly he is chastising himself for being so clumsy in front of his mate.
“I have some more pain relief cream in the house. Come on, follow me in and we’ll take care of it.” His mate walks towards the house with Jimin trailing not far behind.
Jimin cannot help but notice the rucksack over Alpha’s shoulder and wonder, again, where the Alpha has been for most of the day. His mate holds the door open for him as they walk inside. He carefully sets down the rucksack at his workstation before rummaging among his many jars.
“Ah, here you go. Put this on tonight before you go to bed, it will help with the soreness and any bruising.”
“Oh– thank you.” Jimin accepts the small jar. His eyes scan the others sitting on the shelves. “You just have so many.” Jimin gestures, “Are they all for pain?”
“No, not all of them. Over here, I have several different tea blends for a multitude of ailments. And these ones are salves for various pains and injuries.” The Alpha points out the different jars. “ But I also just have regular tea blends; just meant to be enjoyed.” Yoongi points over to the jars on the kitchen counter.
“Hmm,” Jimin hums. “How did you learn about all of this?”
“From the healer that took me in. She specialized in all of this and taught me her ways. No one else in the pack seemed interested in learning. However, once she passed away the others realized how important herbalism is– but still, no one else has shown interest in learning or apprenticing.” The Alpha begins to unpack his rucksack, pulling out a variety of different plants. “I’ve been trying to put together a book. Naming the different herbs, flowers and plants along with their uses. But a book of this type is no good if there aren’t any pictures. Descriptions only go so far. I’ve tried placing the dried plant in between the pages, as an example, but after so long they break or crumple.”
“Why don’t you draw the plants?” Jimin asks, his eyes following his mate’s every movement as he sorts through the different herbs, hanging some out to be dried and setting others to the side. Jimin is entranced by the Alpha’s hands.
“I can’t draw.” His mate murmurs, the tips of his ears turning red.
“Oh.” One thing about Jimin that no one really knows is that he loves to draw, to bring a picture to life. His mothers thought that it was a pointless pursuit, and they would huff whenever he showed them his drawings. So he just stopped. He didn’t even tell Taehyung, not wanting to be ridiculed any further. But maybe– just maybe, this is something he could do here to pass the time. Maybe this Alpha wouldn’t judge him as harshly as his mothers did. “Do you have stuff to draw with?”
“Hmm, over near the fireplace.” His mate says, waving over his shoulder, still absorbed with sorting his herbs and plants.
Jimin walks over to the fireplace and quickly finds the paper and pencils, not sure how he missed it before when he was being nosey. Taking a seat at the table, he begins sketching the sunflowers in the vase. Humming to himself softly as he does so.
Immersed in his task– wanting to capture the way the sun is hitting the petals right now, Jimin didn’t even notice the way his mate was looking at him with a thoughtful but fond expression on his face. Nor does he notice when the Alpha begins to prepare a late lunch, until the smell was something he could no longer ignore. Plus his stomach had started to growl of its own accord.
Yoongi sets down a bowl of rice topped with kimchi in front of Jimin, making sure to avoid his drawing, before taking a seat himself. “I didn’t know you could draw like that. It looks wonderful.”
“Oh–” Jimin flushes, “It’s nothing. Something I used to do back home in my spare time. It’s not really that great or anything…”
“Nonsense.” The Alpha pauses as if he needs to think something over before speaking again. “What do you say to helping me with my book? Drawing the plants and whatnot.”
“Really?” Jimin asks in shock.
“Yeah, your drawing there is much better than anything I could do.” His mate grabs a second piece of paper beside Jimin and the pencil, and attempts to sketch what Jimin assumes to be a sunflower.
“Oh my gosh–” Jimin laughs, “What is that?” Holding up the paper and turning it side to side.
The Alpha harrumps. “I told you I couldn’t draw. So what do you say?”
“Seriously?” Jimin needs to ask one more time, to make sure. He has never heard praise for his drawings before.
“Yes.”
Jimin thinks it over. He knows at the end of the moon cycle, he won’t be here any longer, but that is days away, weeks! And he doesn’t think he can go that long without having something to do, he would go stir crazy. Plus, it means he would be able to draw– to do it without judgement.
“I would really like that,” Jimin murmurs softly, with a smile on his face.
The Alpha answers with a full smile of his own, his teeth and gums on full display; one that Jimin doesn’t think he has seen before. It’s– it’s beautiful, he can feel his cheeks start to redden again, quickly looking away. Pull yourself together, Park. Don’t start thinking of your mate like that.
“Would you like to see what I have in the book so far?”
“Yes!” Jimin is excited to get a look, to get an idea on what he needs to create.
“It’s in my room, let me go grab it. I’ll be right back.”
Once his mate is out of sight, Jimin pushes his hands to his cheeks, willing the redness to go away. Why is his body betraying him like this? “Stop it,” he whispers softly to himself, “Get yourself together.”
The Alpha soon returns with a bundle of papers in hand. He sits in the chair beside Jimin and spreads them out. Each paper corresponds with a different plant, flower or herb. The Alpha’s neat script depicts the plant’s common and scientific name, a brief description of what it looks like, where it can be found, and its uses. Honestly it’s quite amazing. And there is plenty of blank space for where a drawing could go.
“Some of these names I don’t recognize. How– how will I be able to draw them all?”
“I can show them to you. Plus, I think it might be a good idea to practice the drawings before we put them into the actual book. What do you think?”
It sounds like a great idea to Jimin. Something to give him purpose and pass the time while he is here. Best of all– he would be able to draw freely and not have to hide it. Overall it sounds like a huge win.
“I think one of the books on the shelf has information on making your own paints or water colors– something like that. Have you ever painted before?”
Paint? It was only one of Jimin’s biggest desires but he didn’t dare pursue it. If his mothers chastised him about drawing, he could only imagine what they would say if Jimin asked to paint.
“No.”
“Well if you want to try, look through the book and make a list of what you think we might need. I’m sure most of it I’ll be able to find around here.” The Alpha walks over to the bookshelf, eyes skimming all the titles before he settles on the one he needs. “Here.”
“Oh, thank you.” Jimin takes the book and holds it close to his chest.
“I need to head back out, but I’ll be back for dinner.” His mate doesn’t even wait for any answer before stepping out the door.
Jimin plops onto a floor cushion and begins to eagerly look through the pages. To be able to draw and now even paint! This is more than he could ever hope.
✧˖ °. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁‧₊˚ ☾. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁˖°✧
Yoongi can not help the sense of pride his inner Alpha felt at Jimin’s happiness at lunch just now. How his citrus scent spiked, betraying his glee and how he looked at Yoongi in awe, like he couldn’t believe that Yoongi would ask him to draw. Yoongi is determined to make his Omega happy like that again.
If Yoongi was being honest, he really didn’t need to go out again. But he was having trouble keeping all the feelings swarming around inside of him, down. He didn’t want to overwhelm Jimin with how he felt, he wanted to give the Omega time to settle.
Now, with the need to kill some time, Yoongi wanders between the various garden rows. Reaching down to pull weeds here and there, and checking the leaves of the plants to make sure all were healthy. He might have popped a strawberry or two into his mouth. It’s truly a beautiful day out with the sun shining and bird song in the air.
Whistling softly to himself, he heads to the wooden shed next, making sure everything was in its proper place before ambling over to the water wheel and getting lost in its rhythmic motions while he makes sure it was still running properly. Yoongi can detect the faint scent of citrus here, the Omega must have walked past here when he was exploring earlier.
With everything in place around the cabin and still feeling the need to burn off some excess energy, Yoongi takes off into the woods. There is always room in his stores for more herbs or plants. But today, mostly he wanders around aimlessly. He’s got no particular goal in mind but he also knows that the forest has a funny way of helping him organize his thoughts when they are scattered.
If Jimin is going to be helping him add drawings to the plant book, he will need a place to work. Sure, the dining room table will be sufficient enough in the meantime, but Yoongi is thinking long term. Jimin will need a place to store his supplies. Yoongi unconsciously worries his bottom lip between his teeth as he thinks things over.
That’s it! Yoongi could build Jimin a desk!
The Alpha has already made most of the furniture in the cabin, plus the gazebo, among other things. A desk shouldn’t be too hard to make or take much time. Plus if having a place to work made Jimin smile the same way he did about drawing, well the Alpha was all for it.
A plan in place, Yoongi begins scouring the forest for the perfect tree for his task. He wants the desk to be sturdy, to last– he wants the best. He shakes his head at the maple trees, too light, easily scratched. Oak isn’t a bad choice, but not quite what he had in mind. Then Yoongi comes across a walnut tree. Perfect, dark in color which will be easy to hide stains, plus walnut doesn’t scratch as easily. Yoongi makes a mental note of its location, with plans to come back out tomorrow with supplies to take down the tree.
The sky takes on a pinkish orange hue as the sun starts to set, signaling it’s time for Yoongi to return home. Entering the cabin, the Alpha finds Jimin curled up asleep on one of the floor cushions, the book Yoongi had given him earlier resting on his chest. He smiles as he hears the Omega snoring softly.
The smile doesn’t leave Yoongi’s face as he quietly heads into the kitchen and gets started on dinner. With lunch being late, the Alpha decides something simple is in order. He uses the leftover fish from yesterday’s meal to make a simple soup.
His inner Alpha feels at peace as the smell of citrus permeates the air, mixing with his own woodsy scent. Yoongi honestly cannot wait for the whole house to smell like their combined scents. Just this little bit already fills him with so much joy.
Yoongi gently wakes his mate when everything is ready, hiding his smile as Jimin stumbles towards the table sleepily. But soon enough the Omega is all wide eyes and smiles as chatter fills the air. Jimin speaks excitedly about all the different things he learned in his book today, and how he cannot wait to get started with making paints.
Jimin once again tries to clean up, but Yoongi waves him off. “I got it.” Jimin pouts a little but does as Yoongi says, thanking him once again for the meal before bouncing away. Yoongi smiles to himself as he cleans up the kitchen. Once Jimin is done in the bathing room, Yoongi cleans up himself before falling into bed with a smile on his face.
Honestly he cannot remember the last time he has ever smiled this much.
The following morning, Yoongi once again prepares some porridge, leaving it to warm on the stone bricks for Jimin when he wakes up, before heading out for the day. With a single minded focus to get started on Jimin’s desk, he stops at the shed to grab what he needs before heading out into the woods– quickly returning to the walnut tree he found the previous day.
Soon the sound of a tree falling is heard throughout the woods. Yoongi ties a rope around the trunk and begins the trek back to the cabin. When he gets to the tree line, he pauses, debating on what to do. The desk is to be a surprise for Jimin, but if Yoongi drags the fallen tree through the yard to the shed, disturbing the ground, Jimin will for sure know that something is up.
Yoongi rolls his tongue over his teeth as he problem solves on what to do– ultimately deciding he’ll cut up the trunk, out here in the woods and sneak the smaller, more manageable chunks into the shed. He looks up at the sky at the placement of the sun and estimates he has about an hour or so before the Omega is up. Yoongi begins to work quickly.
The Alpha cuts the trunk into more manageable pieces and is able to sneak about half of it into the shed before he sees signs of Jimin stirring inside the cabin. Making sure to dust off all hints of wood shavings and dust from his clothes before rinsing his hands off in the river. He gives himself a quick glance over, and makes his way inside.
The sight that greets him is one that makes Yoongi’s heart soar. Jimin is seated at the dining room table, book propped up while he eats his porridge. His tangerine scent blossoming around him. Yoongi subtly inhales before he makes a little noise to signal his arrival and not scare the poor Omega.
Jimin quickly turns around in his seat at the sound. “Good morning! I wasn’t sure if I was going to see you or not.”
“I had a little work in the woods, but I’m back now.” Yoongi walks over to the pot on the stone brick and scoops himself out some porridge before joining Jimin at the table. “You put together a list, yet?” he asks, waving his hand towards the book.
“Not yet. I want to read more first,” Jimin says as he flips to the next page.
Yoongi hums in acknowledgement before he begins to eat, his eyes drifting up to look at the Omega before him every so often. Jimin truly is a beauty. Breakfast is relatively quiet, but the silence isn’t stifling like before. It’s actually quite comfortable, companionable.
“I probably won’t be back for lunch. I have some things I need to attend to in the shop. But I can make something now and leave it for you.”
“You do realize that I can cook for myself, you know?” Jimin replies with a wry smile on his face. “I was often the one that cooked at home, or cooked with my Omega mother. I can fend for myself, and feed you too.”
The Alpha responds back with a smile. He has been so focused on taking care of Jimin, making sure he was comfortable that he’d forgotten one keypoint. That Jimin was a very capable Omega. He smiled. “Okay, but if you need me at all, just knock on the door. I’ll be back for dinner.”
“Sounds good.” Jimin turns his attention back to his book as he slowly finishes his porridge.
Yoongi finishes the rest of his porridge rather quickly. He goes to wash his bowl when Jimin interrupts. “Just leave it, I’ll get it when I do mine.” The Alpha gives a short nod of acknowledgement before heading back out.
Even with only having half of the walnut tree in the shed, it is a good enough start for what Yoongi needs to do. He grabs his woodcarving tools and gets to work, losing himself to the mindlessness of his task. He has vague memories of his Alpha father woodworking, and he clings to those memories.
Yoongi’s parents were nomadic wolves, never staying in a place for more than a few months at a time. Making their homes in the woods, the caves or bartering for work within the different packs. That all changed when they came across a band of thieves. Both his fathers told him to run and he did; he ran until his legs gave out.
Yoongi never saw his parents again after that. He was found by the Song pack, a couple days later– half starved and more than half wild. But he never forgot where he came from, and what he learned from his fathers. Nor did he forget their scents. The citrus smell of his Omega father, and the leather smell of his Alpha father.
So woodworking was something that he continued to do for himself, in remembrance of his fathers. And fortunately, the beta that adopted him realized it too and encouraged Yoongi.
Today, he made good headway towards Jimin’s desk. Tomorrow, he will rise early and get the rest of the wood inside before the Omega wakes up. Yoongi dusts off the wood shavings to the best of his ability before making his way back to the cabin.
Inside he finds Jimin in the kitchen cooking. Yoongi calls out a greeting before rushing off down the hall, stopping in his room to grab a change of clothes as he makes a beeline for the bathing room to clean up. Already feeling overheated, he lets the cool water into the tub, not bothering to heat it up, before stepping in and washing off. Ultimately deciding that his hair could wait another day to be washed.
Yoongi’s nose crinkles as he sniffs the air, whatever it is that Jimin is making smells good, really good. He drops off his dirty clothes in his room before making his way back to the kitchen. It’s time to see what Jimin is up to.
“Perfect! Dinner is done, come get it while it’s hot.” Jimin serves the food. “See I told you I could cook,” the Omega says with a laugh.
Jimin must have found the stores of dried meat, because in front of Yoongi is a plate of meat and rice, as well as kimchi. “Thank you, this looks wonderful.”
Yoongi dutifully eats every bite, while Jimin chatters away about the different things he learned in his book. Mostly, he was just amazed to find that plants and flowers could be used to make so many different paint colors. The Alpha absolutely loves seeing Jimin so animated.
After dinner, Yoongi insisted on clearing the dinner plates, citing that since Jimin cooked, he should clean. Jimin sent him a look but didn’t argue. Rather he thanked Yoongi before heading to his room for the night.
Once out of sight, Yoongi inhales deeply, thrilled with how Jimin’s tangerine scent lingers. Now that the dishes are done, he’s not feeling quite sleepy yet, so Yoongi grabs his knitting project, sits down on a floor cushion (it may or may not be the one that Jimin has been using) and gets to work. He still has a blanket to finish after all.
Chapter Text
The next couple of days fly by, almost like a dream for Jimin. He has been so engrossed in reading everything he can about making his own paints and compiling a list of things that he needs. The Omega still cannot believe that this is his life now– that this is real. Jimin finds himself pinching his arm from time to time to make sure it's not all just one big elaborate dream.
Things with his mate are going good, as well. Jimin knows he should be keeping his distance from the Alpha. Especially since his plan is still to break the bond after the completion of the moon cycle. But being able to draw! To paint! Jimin would be a fool to let his opportunity pass him by. Back home with his mothers, he would have never gotten the chance to do any of this. So why not make the best of his current situation.
Reviewing his list and checking it twice, a smile appears across his face as he deems it perfect. All that’s left to do now is give it to Yoongi– he means to the Alpha . Which shouldn’t be difficult, Yoongi inquires about it each night at dinner– but at the same time, Jimin can’t help feeling a little nervous. What if Yoongi wasn’t being sincere? What if he changed his mind? Yoongi– no the Alpha , he quickly reminds himself, has been spending the majority of his days away from the cabin. Often returning around dinner time, smelling faintly of wood. Something different from his typical sandalwood scent.
That was certainly a thing that Jimin wasn’t expecting to happen, being able to pick up on details of the Alpha’s scent. When he thinks back to the mating run and how he wasn’t able to decipher it before, it seems almost silly now. Yoongi’s scent, and its undertones, are etched into Jimin’s brain. But maybe it just has something to do with the claiming bite on his neck.
Even if the Alpha is gone the majority of the day, he never forgets to leave breakfast for Jimin each morning. He’s gone now, but perhaps Jimin can share the list with Yoongi when the Alpha returns for dinner tonight. Smiling, the Omega leaves his room to start the day, his smile growing wider as he sees the pot of porridge waiting for him.
After breakfast, Jimin is still feeling a little anxious– nervous– as he realizes it’s finally time to give the Alpha his list. Wanting to burn off some of the anxious energy, Jimin decides that a walk is in order. Slipping on his boots, he leaves the cabin, pausing to inspect his surroundings, trying to determine which way he ought to go.
However, right at the same moment Jimin moved to take his first step, the Alpha was exiting the shed– coming to an abrupt stop when he saw Jimin. He cocked his head to the side, as if to ask what Jimin was doing outside at that moment.
Jimin feels his nerves start to pick back up as he stammers in reply, “I wanted some fresh air and–” he waves his hands about, “and you know, to get to know my surroundings?”
“Let me escort you, then,” his mate smiles. “I don’t want you getting lost while you explore.”
Oh – Jimin wasn’t expecting that. “Alright,” he replies shyly, but at the same time something inside him feels giddy. Realization comes over Jimin about what – or, more like, who – this excitement is for. He quickly reprimands his inner Omega, telling it to cut it out. And maybe he should’ve just told the Alpha ‘no’– but Jimin also knows that his own sense of direction is abysmal, and if he is to go anywhere near the woods, he should probably have a guide of sorts. At least this first time.
The Alpha falls into step beside Jimin as they head down the path, side by side yet a respectable distance between them. Yoongi takes care to point out various landmarks as they walk. Jimin attempts to memorize them, hoping that at some point he will be able to venture out without Yoongi, but he knows that might be a while off.
“How is your list coming?” His mate asks, hands clasped behind his back, turning his full attention to Jimin.
“Pretty well. I think it is almost ready…” Jimin didn’t want to tell the Alpha that it was done yet– what if he wanted to change something? He might only get this one chance. “I want to do a trial run with some things that we already have on hand nearby, first.” Jimin murmurs, running his fingers along the different tree trunks as they continue to stroll, marveling at all the different types of textures, the variety of trees.
“What do you need for your test?”
“Um– I want to practice with berries first, primarily. Maybe with the strawberries from the garden, or raspberries– but I’ll need something to mash them down with?” Jimin bites his lips as he begins to think things through. “And then something like a sieve, to drain them and collect the juices. I also read something about boiling certain flowers, but I think that one should be fairly easy compared to the berries.”
“I have an extra mortar and pestle you can use. Probably have something that you can use to drain the juices, too. When we get back, I’ll get it for ya.”
“Thank you.” Jimin replies with a smile, his inner Omega chuffing in happiness at the attention from the Alpha.
They walk a little longer before Yoongi stops, turning to face Jimin. “Now– how about we see if you have been paying attention.” The Alpha says with an almost teasing tone.
Paying attention? Oh– this doesn’t sound good.
“Why don’t you lead us back home.” His mate gestures towards the woods.
Oh –
Yoongi cannot be serious right now! Jimin's eyes widen.
“M..me?”
The Alpha nods. “Um–” Jimin turns back around the way they just came, his eyes searching for anything familiar. He tries to remember the different landmarks that Yoongi had been pointing out on their journey outward. Jimin feels his heartbeat begin to quicken when nothing in the greenery seems to stand out– until, there in the distance– an oddly shaped rock that the Alpha had pointed out earlier suddenly catches his eye.
Maybe he can do this. “Okay, follow me.”
Together they walk in the direction of the rock, Jimin looks over to the Alpha for confirmation. When Yoongi nods his head, a smile blooms over his face. Okay– maybe this won’t be too hard after all.
Walking back to the cabin takes longer than it did walking into the woods, but it’s not too bad. For the most part, Yoongi had let Jimin lead the way, but, if he strayed too far from the path, the Alpha would gently guide him back to the correct one, until they had finally arrived back at the cabin.
Overcome with a sudden sense of accomplishment, Jimin threw his arms around the Alpha in excitement, startling both of them. The two of them froze in shock as their eyes locked on one another.
It’s at that moment Jimin notices a few things – The Alpha’s eyelashes are extremely pretty and so long; he would kill to have eyelashes like that. In fact, Jimin marvels at the sight up close. Also, at the scar bisecting Yoongi’s right eye– it doesn’t really take anything away from his eyes at all. Was Yoongi always this handsome? How come Jimin had never realized this before?
Time feels like it has come to a standstill. Jimin can feel himself moving closer to the Alpha…
~CRACK~
The loud noise coming from the woods, surprising them both as they spring apart.
“Um–” Jimin stammers, as he looks away, holding a hand up to his now flushed cheeks, willing them to cool.
“Right. Uh– berries, right?” Without even waiting for a reply, Yoongi turns and walks over the rows of strawberries, beginning to pluck some from the vines.
“Yes! Let me go get a basket!” Jimin hurries into the cabin. Once out of sight of the Alpha, he places his hand on his chest, willing his heart to calm down. What in the world almost happened back there? What was he thinking? Jimin walks over to the kitchen to grab one of the foraging baskets and takes a deep breath before heading back outside. He holds up the basket for the Alpha, and Yoongi deposits a generous handful of strawberries, before moving on further down the row.
Working together in a stifled silence, they fill the basket with strawberries.
“I have an extra mortar and pestle in the cabin.” Yoongi murmurs. “Let me show you where– then I’ll need to get back to my workshop.”
The Alpha shows Jimin where the pink mortar and pestle are located, along with a couple other things he might need. His mate makes sure to reiterate that Jimin is more than welcome to use whatever he needs in the cabin. The tips of his ears seem a little red before he takes his leave to head back to this workshop. Jimin cannot help but be a little curious about what Yoongi does out there.
After the Alpha leaves, Jimin heads to his room to change clothes, expecting that things could get a little messy with the berries. He grabs one of his older outfits then returns to the kitchen area. Jimin grabs the necessary items and carries them out to the gazebo.
It is still an absolutely gorgeous day out– it would be a shame to work inside. Plus, if things do get messy, it would be better to be outside to avoid making a mess inside the house. Jimin lines up everything in the order he plans to use them and gets to work.
First, Jimin cuts off the tops of the strawberries, then removes the cores. Once he feels like he has enough, Jimin cuts the strawberries into smaller slices and adds them to the mortar. Then he takes the pestle and mashes the strawberries into a fine pulp before dumping the mixture into a mesh strainer, repeating the process until he has enough ‘juice’ collected below.
Jimin sets out five bowls in a line in front of him, adding flour, oil, dirt, arrowroot powder and water to them, respectively. Carefully he pours the red juice mixture into each of the bowls, making sure to thoroughly mix everything. As the different concoctions settle, Jimin prepares the paper, neatly writing the ingredients of each mixture off to the side.
“All right, here we go,” Jimin murmurs to himself, taking his index finger and dipping it into the first bowl. He paints a solid circle, then he wipes his finger off before repeating the process with the rest of the different mixtures.
Once all the circles have been painted, Jimin sits back on his haunches, a large smile on his face. Happy with the results so far, he excitedly claps his hands together. He cannot wait to see how everything turns out once his paint experiments dry. Idly, he pops a leftover berry into his mouth while he waits.
The Omega looks over at the garden, contemplating if he should grab some raspberries to try next or if it would be best to wait. Ultimately, he decides it might be best to wait until the following day, when he knows he has more time. There’s no need to rush. Things should move quicker tomorrow, now that he knows what he is doing.
Jimin starts to carry his supplies back to the cabin, saving the paper with the paint trials on it until very last. Glancing over at the workshop, he wonders what Yoongi could be up to. The Alpha has been spending a lot of time in there lately.
With sweat drying on his skin and his fingers stained from the berries, Jimin wrinkles his nose in displeasure. He feels sticky and in desperate need of a bath right about now. Leaving the painted paper on the dining room table, he makes a beeline to his room, grabbing a set of clean clothes and his bathing oils.
The Omega sings to himself as he prepares the water, before slipping into its warmth. “Ahhh,” he sighs audibly as he relaxes back against the wall of the tub. Filled with a new kind of happiness, he finds himself singing several songs while he washes. He has to pinch himself every so often to make sure this wasn’t all a dream.
Maybe life out here, at the edge of the forest, wasn’t so bad afterall.

Yoongi has been working like an Alpha on a mission for the last several days, trying to get as much work done on Jimin’s desk as he possibly can. He estimates it will take him another week and half before it will be ready. But, he cannot wait to see the way Jimin’s eye will light up and how his smile will overcome his face.
Over in the corner, Yoongi looks at the other project he has started. An easel for his mate. He could not help but notice the happiness that filled Jimin’s eyes when he talked about drawing and the possibility of painting. Yoongi can already imagine his Omega out in the gazebo, sun shining, streaks of paint across his cheeks as focuses on moving the brush over the paper. It is a sight that Yoongi would do anything to make possible.
Not being able to complete anything else today, Yoongi cleans up his mess, making sure everything is in order before leaving the workshop. He shuts the door firmly behind him, and makes a side trip to the garden, double checking all the plants and pulling a stray weed here and there. He notes to himself that it looks like it is almost time to harvest some of the vegetables. Maybe Jimin will want to help him with that– he’ll ask him about it later.
As Yoongi opens the door to the cabin, he is instantly assaulted by Jimin’s tangerine scent– being able to sense his Omega’s happiness causes his Alpha to puff up his chest in joy. Yoongi takes a minute to take it all in; he wants to bathe himself in Jimin’s scent, surround himself in it. The Alpha’s nose wrinkles as it detects a strange scent underneath all the familiar ones. The smells seem familiar but, at the same time, not. Following his nose, Yoongi walks over to the source.
There on the dining room table is a piece of paper with a variety of red markings, all in different shades and textures. Oh– Jimin’s trials! A smile blooms on Yoongi’s face as pride overcomes him. From what he can see, Jimin was successful with his trials today– and this was only just with red. Yoongi cannot wait to see what Jimin comes up with for all the other colors.
Yoongi checks around the living area and kitchen, noticing that a certain Omega is missing. Where is Jimin, anyhow? But then he hears it– Jimin’s melodic voice singing a popular children’s song, followed by the splash of water before the singing picks back up again.
Figuring it will be some time before his Omega makes an appearance, Yoongi gets to work on cleaning the dishes in the sink. Moving the items Jimin used earlier back to their respective places. Then he checks their stores to see what they could have for dinner.
Yoongi didn’t even notice that the singing had stopped until he heard the opening and closing of the bathroom door. But, as soon as the door clicks, the singing picks back up, sounding like Jimin is in his bedroom this time. The Alpha smiles, Jimin has such a lovely singing voice. He remembers, it was always a joy hearing the Omega sing at the various pack gatherings.
The soft padding of Jimin’s footsteps seems to get louder, as well as his singing, as he enters the living room. Then the song comes to an abrupt stop, as Jimin’s scent spikes in surprise. Yoongi looks over to see Jimin frozen seemingly in the middle of towel drying his hair.
“I– uh– I didn’t hear you come in.” Jimin lowers the towel from his head, gripping at it with both hands
“Over all that singing in the bath, I doubt that you could.” Yoongi can’t help but tease.
“Sorry. I can–”
“No— please! Don’t stop singing on my account. Your voice is absolutely beautiful.”
“Oh–” Jimin’s cheeks deepen in color, “Thank you.” He looks to the floor shyly, not quite meeting Yoongi’s eyes. He doesn’t want to make his mate uncomfortable, so he moves on to another topic.
“I noticed the paper with your paint trials, over on the table. It looks like everything turned out pretty good.”
“Oh! Are they all dried now?!?” Jimin rushes over to the table, grabbing the paper and holding it up. Yoongi closes his eyes as Jimin’s tangerine scent blossoms around him. “Oh they did turn out good– but now I think I know how I can make it better! And I cannot wait to try other colors, too!” Jimin continues to ramble on about different ingredients and Yoongi nods along, not completely understanding what his Omega is saying, but wanting to listen attentively nonetheless.
“Now, I just need to figure out what to use for paint brushes. This time I used my finger, but I don’t think I can do that everytime. I can’t get any detailed work done that way.”
This time, Yoongi understands what his Omega is talking about and chimes in, “Oh, I can help you with that. With all the things around the cabin and my workshop, I’m sure we can come up with something. Shouldn’t be too difficult.”
“Really?” Jimin asked with hope in his eyes. Like he couldn’t believe that Yoongi would be offering to help, even though he has been helping all along.
“Yes, really,” he replies with a smirk. “Do you want to help me with dinner tonight? There are some vegetables that need to be harvested. I was thinking of keeping it simple, roasted veggies and rice?”
“ Oh, that sounds good and not too heavy. I like it.”
“Since you are all clean, let me go get the vegetables. Then while I wash up, maybe you can start with everything?”
“Yep! I’ll start the rice now!” Jimin heads over to the pantry and begins the process of cooking rice.
Yoongi watches for a moment before grabbing an empty basket and heading back outside to the garden to gather a variety of vegetables. He knows they still have some of the leftover strawberries that Jimin didn’t use in his experiments, so he doesn’t have to worry about that part. Once finished, Yoongi hands the basket off to Jimin before making his way to the bathing room.
He doesn’t want to keep Jimin wanting too long for dinner, so Yoongi doesn’t wait the full time for the water to heat up before getting into the tub. He scrubs the day's grime off of him and washes his hair in the cool water. As he gets out of the tub, he realizes that he was in such a rush to get in here, that he forgot to grab a set of clean clothes for himself. Yoongi really does not want to put back on the dirty ones– they are sweaty and dirty from his woodworking and his time in the garden.
“Jimin is in the kitchen,” he mutters to himself. “Your room is right there, across the hall. Just be quick. It’s not like he’s going to see you from the kitchen.” Securing the towel around his waist, he jerks the door open– only to run headlong into Jimin with an ‘oomph,’ who is exiting his room at the time. Jimin loses his balance and falls right into Yoongi’s bare chest.
Fuck.
Jimin tilts his face up, his cheeks darkening in color. Their eyes lock and it is like time stands still. Yoongi is unsure how long they just stand there like that, just staring at each other.
“Oh! I’m so sorry.” Jimin says softly, taking a step back. The Omega’s eyes seem to look everywhere except at Yoongi.”I just– uh– I was just getting something out of my room. I– um–” He takes another step back before rushing away down the hall.
Without another word, Yoongi opens the door to his bedroom and steps inside. His heart pounds in his chest at the interaction they just shared. His Alpha is howling at him to go to his Omega. But he resists. He closes his eyes and leans back against the door. It’s like Yoongi can still feel the heat of Jimin’s body on his own; those small hands on his chest. It’s like it woke another part of him up…
Yoongi tries his best to think unappealing thoughts as he gets himself dressed. He’s suitably calmed down by the time he finishes. Taking a deep breath before opening his door, he heads out to the kitchen. This time, he tries to make as much noise as possible so that Jimin won’t be startled at his arrival.
Together, they worked in an almost embarrassed silence as they prepared the rest of the meal. They sat quietly across from each other later, as they ate. Yoongi noticed that Jimin yawned every now and again between bites of food– and after the meal was finished, Yoongi wasn’t surprised when Jimin murmured a quiet ‘good night,’ before retiring to his bedroom. Yoongi grabs his knitting from the basket and continued to work on the blanket for his Omega.
After that day, Yoongi and Jimin fell into a new routine for life around the cabin. The Alpha still heads out early in the morning to work in his shop, but now he takes a break around the time Jimin wakes up and finishes with breakfast. Together, they go for a walk in the woods, Yoongi initially leading the way with Jimin guiding the way back. They break apart for their separate activities after that– Jimin with his paints, and Yoongi in the shop. Then they come back together again for dinner.
It’s the new normal for them, and Yoongi loves every minute of it. After a couple evenings, he finally finishes the knitted blanket for Jimin. He scents it lightly, before leaving it on Jimin’s preferred floor cushion with a little note. He hopes he’ll find it when he wakes for the day. He hopes his Omega likes it.
Smiling, Yoongi quietly exits the cabin and makes his way to the workshop. He just needs to put the finishing touches on Jimin’s easel, and then he will be able to gift it to him next week to help with his painting project. And, after that, he’ll be in the final stretch to complete Jimin’s desk. It feels like things are finally starting to go well.
Chapter Text
Jimin feels agitated when he gets up this morning, his inner Omega restless. No matter how he rearranges his nest or moves stuff around in his room Jimin feels like something is missing. He just can’t put his finger as to what it is. Sulking he leaves his room, his mood picking up slightly when he notices the food Yoongi left out for him. And alongside the food, there are also some supplies that Yoongi thought Jimin might need, all set out neatly on the corner of the counter.
His mate truly is thoughtful. If Jimin made even an inkling about needing something, Yoongi did his best to make it come true. ‘But you need to remember,’ he reminds himself, ‘it’s all going to be over in a couple weeks. Don’t get too comfortable here.’ It’s a bit useless though – Jimin cannot suppress the joy he feels at being able to express himself in the way he wants – making art is something that he simply cannot have at home.
After cleaning up the morning dishes, Jimin is on his way back to his room when he notices a shock of color out of the corner of his eye. Curious he walks over to his floor cushion, where he finds a multicolored knitted blanket with a note laying on top.
for my mate
-Yoongi
Unable to help himself, Jimin brings the blanket up to his nose, inhaling deeply, noting the sandalwood scent that clings to the blanket. His inner Omega chirps in happiness, this– this is what his nest is missing. Without even thinking, Jimin holds the blanket close as he runs back to his room. Tearing apart his nest and placing the newly gifted blanket as the base, running his fingers over the pattern and marveling at the softness of the yarn.
Jimin then carefully reconstructs his nest on top of it, finally feeling at peace and no longer agitated like he was when he woke this morning. “Perfect!” He exclaims aloud, clapping his hands in excitement. Laying down on his side, he nuzzles into the knitted blanket, signing in contentment at the sandalwood scent. Jimin feels like he could lay here all day, in fact, he’s almost debating doing just that, but his conscience gets the better of him and drags him out of his nest and so he can go outside to meet up with his mate.
“I was starting to wonder if you forgot about me.” The Alpha teased, Jimin could feel his cheeks heat up slightly.
“Let’s just go.” Jimin murmurs, walking past the Alpha and starting down the path. But coming to the first crossroads he freezes.
“Right.” Yoongi murmurs softly, Jimin nods his head and sets off down the path to the right. His mate falls into step beside him. “It’s a short walk to the flower fields. There are many different flowers of a variety of colors. I know you mentioned wanting to try boiling flowers to see what happens.”
“Yeah, the book mentioned something about the heat from the boiling water helping to extract the color from the flowers, so I at least wanted to try. But I also like how things turned out just with the different berries. Am I doing too much? Should I just stick with what I know works?”
“You will never know what else might work until you try.” Yoongi murmurs thoughtfully, making Jimin smile.
Together they walk side by side in a companionable silence, Jimin stopping every so often to pick flowers, adding them to the basket that Yoongi had the foresight to grab before they started on their journey. In no time at all the basket is filled with reds, yellows, purples, white, oranges and blues until it’s practically overflowing.
“I also read something about grinding up seashells to use as a base. I think that would be interesting to try, but we are not close enough to the sea to try something like that. What a shame– I’m not sure we have anything similar out here?.” Jimin misses the thoughtful expression that passes over Yoongi’s face.
Jimin continues to chatter about different techniques he’d discovered while reading, as the two of them make their way back to the cabin. Once they arrive, Yoongi gets a fire started outside while Jimin grabs a kettle and some other supplies.
“I cannot wait to see how this experiment turns out.” Yoongi says when Jimin returns, dusting his hands off on his pants as he stands. “I have a few things to take care of now, but I should be done before dinner. I will see you later.” He walks off towards the workshop.
“What do you spend all day in there doing…?” Jimin calls out, curiosity finally getting the best of him. Yoongi has been pretty open about life out here and what he does– but his workshop he has perfectly stayed mum about.
“Ahhh… You’ll just have to wait and see.” The Alpha smirks.
Jimin laughs as he watches his mate disappear into the workshop. I guess we all have our own secrets, he thinks to himself. But for now, it’s time to get started on his experiments so he, too, can be done in time for dinner.
Walking over to the brook, Jimin fills a bucket with water and carries it back over to the fire that Yoongi had built. Then he poured some water into the kettle, hanging it over the coals to be heated. Next came separating the flowers into their respective colors by plucking the petals and placing them into piles. After sorting the colors, he puts a strainer inside a bowl before first grabbing the pile of red petals and dropping them inside. When the sound of boiling water is heard, Jimin goes ahead and pours the heated water over the petals, letting them seep in the hot water before removing the strainer. What’s left behind is red tinged water.
Grabbing the already prepared paper from the other day, Jimin dips a brush into the red water and makes a circle. He then adds the tinted water to different ingredients, creating several different mixtures again, then putting the paint trials to paper.
Jimin repeats the process until he uses up all of the flowers. Afterwards he stands up, stretching his back after being stooped over for so long. He really needs to find a better way to do this– maybe he can put together something where he isn’t hunched over for so long, or perhaps he could drag a small table outside.
Feeling a little better after stretching, Jimin looks over the different painted pages with a critical eye, some of the concoctions clearly turning out better than others. After all his experiments, it gives him a pretty good idea of what works and doesn’t work. It helps him spot which method he wants to do for the different colors. Jimin feels confident that he can bring ‘life’ to the images that Yoongi wants to create for the plant book.
Needing to get out of the sun for a bit, Jimin grabs a blank piece of paper and a pencil and makes his way up to the gazebo. There he drops down on his stomach, raising his legs up behind him and crossing them at the ankle as he begins to sketch, singing softly to himself as he does so. His eyes glance up at the trees, then back down to the paper, mimicking the shapes he sees in the distance. He continues on in his manner until the nature scene in front of him is memorialized in his sketch.
The sky changes over, from a beautiful bright blue to being streaked with orange, pink and purple as the sun begins its descent. Jimin hears the sound of a door opening and looks over to see his mate exiting the workshop.
“Oh? I wasn’t expecting to find you still out here,” Yoongi says as he ambles towards the gazebo, a soft smile on his face as he approaches Jimin.
“I lost track of time, I guess.” Jimin replies sheepishly. He truly meant to have everything cleaned up by now, but it was so lovely getting lost in his artwork for a little while.
“Are those your experiments from today?” Yoongi asks, waving his arm towards the papers Jimin had left to lay out in the sun to dry.
“Yeah. I think I know what I want to do now. The berries and the flower extracts work differently– I can see what I need to add to each now to get the best colors.” Jimin goes into a long winded ramble about all the different mixtures he tried, what he liked and didn’t like, as he gets up from the floor of the gazebo. He continues to talk as Yoongi helps him clean up his mess from the day before they head inside.
“What’s this?” Yoongi asks as he picks up the drawing Jimin had been working on when Yoongi emerged from the shed earlier. The very reason why he’d lost track of time.
“Oh– I was just messing around, getting a feel for sketching again.” Jimin can feel his cheeks get slightly heated. “I promise, I can do better.” He reaches for the drawing but Yoongi pulls it away, eyes still fixated on it.
“Better? This is already amazing. You are so talented.”
Jimin knows for sure that his cheeks are bright red now. “It’s nothing.” After being told for so long that ‘drawing’ was not a worthwhile pursuit, Jimin’s not used to being encouraged for doing it, let alone praised .
“This isn’t ‘nothing.’” Yoongi holds the drawing up. “It's really good. We need to put it up somewhere in the cabin.”
Jimin waves his hands in front of his face, “No, no, no, no, no– don’t do that.” He feels embarrassed. “I was just practicing.”
“If this is you ‘practicing’, I cannot wait to see when you actually try .” Yoongi replies with a teasing tone. “I won’t hang it up if you don’t want me to… but you should know, it is really good.” Yoongi hands the drawing back to Jimin, who lays it off to the side. “So for dinner tonight,”he says, changing the subject, “I was thinking of grilling up some meat along with our usual. What do you think?”
“I think that sounds wonderful. I can get started on the rice!”
Like a well oiled machine, they move around each other in the kitchen, each doing their part to create their evening meal. This was also a relatively new occurrence, that Jimin knows he shouldn’t like, but it’s becoming another highlight of his day. It’s easy. Everything - well mostly everything - is just so easy when it comes to Yoongi.
Over dinner they continue to make small talk, asking questions and getting to know one another better. It’s a significant departure from how they used to interact with one another.
“Um, I wanted to say— thank you for the knitted blanket.” And it’s now the Alpha’s turn to turn red.
“You are welcome. I debated on what pattern and colors to do for you, so I’m glad it turned out okay and that you liked it.”
Jimin's eyebrows raise up in surprise before he blurts out, “You made it yourself?”
His mate rubs the back of his neck. “Yeah– I– um– knitted it. I’ve been working on it at night after you went to bed. I know that we are already mated, but I still wanted to get you a gift.”
“Oh.” Jimin didn’t know what to think about that. What Yoongi did– it was endearing and if it made his heart flutter a bit– so what?
After the meal, Jimin bid Yoongi a good night and rushed off to his room. And if he just so happened to bury his face into the blanket that the Alpha knitted for him– that was between him and his inner omega.
The next morning Jimin woke up to gray skies and rain drops on the window pane. There would be no going outside to work on his painting experiments today. It was the type of day where one would find themselves curled up under a cozy blanket with a good book.
Jimin crawled out of his nest, rubbing at his eyes as he made his way into the kitchen. He pauses when he notices the familiar sandalwood scent of his mate, but that doesn’t make any sense. Why would the Alpha be here? Yoongi is always gone in the mornings when Jimin awakens.
“Ah– you're awake, breakfast is done. If you want to set the table, I will bring everything over?” Still in shock and partially still asleep, Jimin does what Yoongi bids without question. The alpha carries the food over to the table as they take their seats. “So what are your plans for the day?”
“I was just planning to curl up with a book and listen to the rain, I think. It seems like the perfect day for it.” Jimin already knows what book he wants to read.
“Do you mind if I join you?” His mate asks hesitantly.
Not expecting the question and feeling a little shy, Jimin nods wordlessly. He is rewarded with a small gummy smile from the Alpha that makes his insides feel funny. Almost like there are butterflies in there.
After clearing the breakfast dishes, Jimin returns to his room to grab the romance novel he has been wanting to read. His hands hesitate over the knitted blanket though, running his fingertips over the soft yarn. Part of him yearns to take the blanket with him and bury himself in it, but to do that he would have to take apart his whole nest. Wrestling with the idea for a moment, Jimin ultimately decides on leaving the blanket behind, besides there are plenty of blankets in the living area.
When Jimin returns to the main room, he notices that Yoongi is already curled up on one of the floor cushions, a knitting project in hand. What could the Alpha be making now? Not wanting to disturb him, Jimin sits down on his own floor cushion, pulling the awaiting blanket over his legs, cracking open his romance novel; he begins to read as the rain continues to fall outside. It provides a soothing soundtrack as he loses himself to the words on the page.
As a sense of contentment settles over him, Jimin thinks how he hadn’t realized how nice it is just coexisting with Yoongi like this. Doing separate tasks, yet being near the other’s presence, it was comforting in a way that he couldn’t begin to explain. Lost in his novel, he doesn’t even notice a fond pair of eyes looking his way.
The Omega must have read for hours like that, lost in the cozy vibe of the morning, until his nose picks up the delicious smell of sizzling meat coming from the little kitchen. It must be lunch time already? Jimin sets down the novel before standing up, raising his arms overhead to stretch side to side.
“You didn't have to make lunch too.” Jimin chastises in a playful tone as he automatically begins to gather what’s needed to set the table.
“You were so engrossed in your novel, I didn’t want to disturb you.”
Jimin flushes once again– it seems like blushing is all he ever does around the Alpha anymore. “How about with the leftover meat from this we make a stew? We can have that for dinner tonight.”
“Okay. Why don’t you go ahead and chop up some vegetables and start the base? We can let it simmer over lunch to bring out the flavors.”
Working as a team, they get a head start on dinner, setting aside a portion of meat for their lunch. As they are eating, Jimin blurts out, “So, how did you learn to knit like that?” He couldn’t help himself– sometimes he is too curious for his own good.
“I learned when I was young. I find it soothing, a way to keep my hands busy, especially in the cooler months when there isn’t a lot to do. Do you know how to knit?” Jimin shakes his head no, his mothers thought it was a pointless endeavor when they could just trade for blankets instead. “Would you like me to show you?”
Jimin is shocked– but then again things thus far with the Alpha have often been shocking. Yoongi is nothing like he expected. “I would like that.”
After lunch, they sit close together on their cushions and Yoongi pulls out some yarn and spare needles to show Jimin some knitting basics. The warmth from Yoongi’s body makes Jimin feel all fuzzy inside. He forces himself to pay attention to what the Alpha is saying. And tries to hide the shivers that go through him when their hands accidentally brush.
Jimin is a quick learner and in no time he picks it up. They spend the rest of the day, coexisting with one another again, working on their separate projects as the rain continues to fall; finding comfort in each other's presence.

The soft sounds of wood shavings falling to the ground, and huffs of labored breathing can be heard as Yoongi continues to work on Jimin’s easel. It needs to be perfect and Yoongi is almost there. The Alpha continues with the same motions a few more times before taking a step back and wiping the sweat off his brow. He cocks his head to the side as he admires the final project.
Perfect.
Smiling to himself, Yoongi puts away his drawknife and grabs a groundstone. All that is left to do now is to smooth everything down, he doesn’t want Jimin to accidentally get a splinter when he is painting or adjusting the easel. The work is monotonous but at the same time, Yoongi is making something for his Omega and that makes his inner Alpha eager to complete the project.
Finally finished, Yoongi puts all the tools away in their respective places. A quick glance out the small window lets the Alpha know it’s roughly midday. The sun is shining high in the sky. Not wanting to wait a moment longer, and eager to see Jimin’s reaction, Yoongi carefully grabs the easel and carries it out the door of the workshop.
At first he starts to head towards the cabin but he soon realizes that Jimin is out at the gazebo. Shaking his head to himself, he should’ve known better. The Omega likes to spend his time outside, especially when it is nice out, and to that end they have been fairly lucky with all the nice days they have been having lately. Oftentimes, Yoongi finds Jimin either practicing his art or reading while in the gazebo swing. The smell of citrus is prevalent in the surrounding air and it makes Yoongi’s inner Alpha extremely happy because it means that his mate, his omega, is feeling ‘at home’ in this space.
Yoongi notices the Omega’s nose wrinkle, sniffing, before turning his head quickly. Jimin must’ve noticed Yoongi’s scent– not that he was doing much to hide it, especially in his eagerness to show the Omega what he had made. At first, Jimin cocks his head to the side in confusion, but soon his eyes widen as he realizes what Yoongi has in his hands.
“Is that an easel ?” Jimin sounds stunned, as he comes to a stand, meeting Yoongi at the edge of the gazebo
“It is.” A hint of pride in his voice as he enters the gazebo, he sets the easel down in roughly the same area where he knows Jimin works.
“Where– What– Did you make that?!?” Jimin asks, as he walks over to stand next to Yoongi, his fingers reaching out to touch the smooth wood.
“I did.” Yoongi can see how the Omega’s eyes get a little glassy. Without even thinking, he reaches out a hand, placing it over Jimin’s and subtly lets out his scent.
“You– you did not have to do that.” Jimin whispers, his eyes full of wonder as he looks at the easel.
“It was nothing.” Yoongi says a little gruffly. “You needed something to work on, so I made you this easel.” Only for a moment does he hesitate before adding, “Do you want to try it out?”
The Omega’s eyes light up, a beautiful smile appearing on his face. “Yes!”
Jimin reacted exactly like Yoongi hoped. His inner Alpha is preening. “Okay, I’ll let you get to it then... I’ll just be working in the garden if you need anything.”
As he goes to step away, Yoongi feels a hand on his shoulder. The next thing he knows, he has his arms full of an excited Omega before he can even turn fully around. Those arms are wrapped around him, squeezing him tight.
“Thank you!” Jimin murmurs against his chest. Yoongi brings up his own arms, returning the hug. His mate gives him a shy smile, before returning to the easel. Taking the board and paper he has been working on and placing it on the easel, Jimine glances over to Yoongi and gives him a small wave before turning his focus back to creating his art.
Taking that as his cue to leave, Yoongi walks over to the garden with a little pep in his step. There he checks on the plants and pulls some weeds. But truly, he can’t help sneaking looks back towards the gazebo as he makes his way through the different rows. Jimin just looks so content– happy as he stands at the easel making his creations come to life.
Yoongi’s inner Alpha is more than pleased, especially when the Omega’s happy scent makes it all the way over to Yoongi in the garden.
After a quick lunch and their daily walk in the woods, where Jimin was able to successfully lead them (Yoongi only helped a handful of times), Yoongi returns to his workshop. Seeing the excitement from Jimin on receiving the easel earlier today, Yoongi was determined to get the desk done as soon as possible. It shouldn’t be too much longer now. By Yoongi’s estimates the desk should be done by the end of the week. The walnut was turning out very nicely– an excellent choice.
Hitting a stopping point a bit later, Yoongi returned to the cabin, surprised to see that Jimin had already started dinner. Upon hearing the door, the Omega turned to face him with a wide smile on his face, his eyes lighting up.
“Oh Yoongi! The easel, I wanted to let you know – it’s perfect!” Jimin transfers the rice to a couple bowls. “Being able to stand to paint made a big difference. It was so much easier. Oh– and I think I found a new combination that works!” His mate continued to prattle on about his day while serving the food and in between bites. Yoongi watches fondly, pleased that he was part of the reason for the Omega’s happiness.
After dinner they make their way to their respective cushions, Yoongi working on his latest knitting project while at the same time, helping Jimin with his. The Omega picked up on the basics of knitting fairly quickly, but was having a little trouble with following a pattern– especially with the stitch changes.
As his mate concentrated on his knitting, looking adorable, Yoongi couldn’t help but recall something that Jimin mentioned earlier in the week, about using seashells as a base for creating a paint. Jimin was correct when he said there were no sea shells around here– but that didn’t mean they couldn’t travel to find some. The sea wasn’t too far of a journey. It required close to a half day of travel, but that was doable. But, if they did decide to travel to the sea– it would have to be an overnight trip.
Yoongi has camped out on the beach before, but he wondered if the Omega would be willing to do the same. They would have to share a tent– as Yoongi only had one. The Alpha mulled the idea around in his mind. Maybe he should sleep on it before asking Jimin about it.
Chapter Text
Today was the day– after countless paint trials and experiments, Jimin finally felt confident enough to start adding his drawings to the plant book. He grabbed the bundle of papers, taking the first one from the stack, the paint colors he needed prepared. He dips the end of the brush into the paint but as he goes to put the paint to paper, he freezes.
This is a lot of responsibility– what if he messes it up or does something wrong?
Maybe…
He should wait for Yoongi for this part. Gnawing on his lower lip he sets the brush back down and pushes the page out of the way. Then Jimin reaches for some scrap paper, sketching the plant out before adding paint to it. He recreates the same picture over and over– it needs to be perfect. He doesn’t want to mess this up.
The scent of sandalwood becomes more potent, Jimin jerks his head around to see Yoongi looking down at him with a fond look on his face. Gosh he is so handsome. Jimin realizes.
“It looks like you have been busy.” Yoongi gestures towards the pieces of scrap paper littered all over the table.
Jimin can feel his cheeks start to heat up. “Um– yeah– I– I just want everything to be perfect.”
“All of these look pretty perfect to me?” Yoongi picks up one of the pages, admiring it before setting it back down and picking up another one.
“But what if I make a mistake in your book?” Jimin whispers, his eyes flitting back and forth between his paintings and the bundle of pages for the plant book.
“Then we fix it. It’s easy enough to rewrite everything. So don’t worry about that part, yeah?”
Oh – Jimin didn’t even think of that as a solution. He was viewing it more as any screw up would ruin everything– the whole book. But Yoongi gave him a solution so easily. It instantly makes him feel better.
“Here,” Yoongi takes a seat next to Jimin, reaching his hand out and pulling the first page back over. “You have practiced enough– now it is time to do it. I believe in you.” Jimin takes a deep breath before dipping his brush in the paint. “You can do it.” He presses his brush to the page, taking strength from his mate sitting beside him. His tongue peeks out between his lips as he focuses on recreating the flower onto the page.
It probably took longer than it should have but Jimin finally sets down the brush as he leans back in his seat. He pauses to take in every bit of the creation in front of him, criticizing every little stroke. That line over there could have been cleaner, that color on the bottom petal needed to be darker. But before he could spiral any further–
“That looks amazing, Jimin-ah.” Yoongi leans in closer to get a better look. “You are so talented.”
Jimin can feel his heart start to beat quicker in his chest at the term of endearment. It is the first time that Yoongi has said his name like that. Jimin knows that he should mind– say something, but he finds that he does not mind if Yoongi refers to him like that.
“I can do better…”
“Nonsense– this is amazing as is.” Yoongi takes the paper in his hand carefully, “I am going to put it over here to dry.” His mate takes the paper over to his little workstation, laying it down softly to dry.
“Bb..but,” Jimin reaches his hand out. There were still some things that he wanted to change.
“Nope– it is already perfect as is, I will say it again– you are really talented.” Yoongi stares right at him as he says it.
Warmth overcomes Jimin and he finds he needs to avert his eyes. “Thank you.” Feeling emboldened, Jimin reaches his hand out and grabs another piece of paper. Studying the description written in Yoongi’s neat handwriting before grabbing his pencil to start sketching it out.
He gets so absorbed in his creating that he does not even notice when the Alpha leaves. The longer he created, the more comfortable he started to become. After he got through five pages, he decided that a break was in order. Jimin laid the pages carefully next to the other one on Yoongi’s workstation to allow them to dry.
Walking over to the front window, Jimin glanced outside to see his mate working in the garden. Yoongi’s back is strong as he bends over to pull weeds, his dark hair blowing softly in the wind.
The more time passes out here in the woods, Jimin cannot help but be intrigued by his mate. Yoongi is nothing like he expected– nothing at all. His mate has the ability to say a lot by saying nothing at all. His dark catlike eyes are so expressive. And do not get Jimin started about his mate’s scent. Jimin thought he would not like the musky woodsy scent so much– especially since it was the complete opposite of Taehyung’s minty scent…
Taehyung …
Jimin put his hand over his heart, rubbing at his chest for the sharp pain that came and went.
It has been a while since Jimin thought about his best friend– his soulmate. In less than two weeks they would be reunited when all mated pairs return to town after spending their first moon cycle together to strengthen the fresh mating bond.
Oh–
That means Jimin does not have much time to get the plant book done. Because when he returns to town– he is sure his parents will make him find something ‘useful’ to do. Jimin wilts a little as he thinks about his life from before– a life where he could not draw or paint.
Is that what he really wants? To return to that life. Jimin feels conflicted. The plan this entire time has been to return back home, void his mating with Yoongi and reunite with Taehyung. Because they were supposed to end up together– just like they planned…
Right?
But Jimin does not know anymore. Feeling suddenly choked up, like he could not get enough air in no matter how much he tried, Jimin rushed to the front door, throwing it open before taking off down the path to the woods. Ignoring Yoongi’s confused voice calling after him.
He must have been instinctively paying more attention than he realized because Jimin made it to the flower field with no issues. Collapsing on his hands and knees next to the blooms as he gasps trying to catch his breath. His mind is in shambles. Jimin never expected to like life out here– now he is confused about returning to the life that he left.
“Jimin-ah?” comes Yoongi’s soft voice, a little hesitant.
Jimin can hear the concern in his voice– but he does not think he can handle his mate at the moment. He just wants to be alone.
“I–I am fine,” Jimin gets into a seated position, wrapping his arms around his bent knees, turning his face towards the blooms and away from his mate. “I– I want to be alone for a bit.”
“Of course. Just yell if you need anything…” Yoongi quietly takes off, leaving Jimin in the field by himself.
Jimin cries into his knees. The trees and flowers are the only ones that can hear his sobs. He is just so confused– what does he even want anymore? Does he want to return home back to his old life or remain out here in the woods? He just doesn’t know. And if he wants to go back home, everything with Taehyung seems tangled up and messy…
Jimin remains out by the flower field until his stomach starts to growl in hunger; the setting sun painting the sky glows with a lovely mix of colors. Getting to his feet, Jimin makes his way back to the cabin, rubbing at his eyes. He is hoping to hide the fact that he has been crying, but he is sure it is a lost cause.
Entering the cabin, the smell of meat cooking greets him. Of course his mate would have dinner ready. Looking over to the table– he notices that everything from earlier is cleaned off. He glances around the cabin in confusion, trying to locate his things.
“I moved everything over to the bookshelf in the living area. Do not worry, I made sure your paintings were dried before I moved them.”
Jimin’s mouth forms a silent ‘o’ before shyly saying, “Thank you…”
“Dinner is about done. Do you mind setting the table?”
Yoongi is acting like Jimin did not just disappear on him for a couple of hours– like nothing is wrong. And honestly– Jimin is grateful for it. He does not think he would be able to hold it together if his mate were to question him right now.
Dinner is a relatively quiet affair, with Yoongi sending him concern looks every so often, but not prying. After eating, Jimin thanks Yoongi for the meal before rushing off to his room. He quickly sinks down into his nest, nuzzling his face into the knitted blanket that Yoongi made for him. Not even realizing that he was seeking out his mate’s scent for comfort versus the scent of his family.
The next morning, Jimin wakes up with renewed purpose. Determined to not let thoughts of the future get to him. “I just need to focus on ‘right now.’ Everything else does not matter,” he mutters to himself.
Surprisingly Jimin is up before his mate today. He takes the time to make them porridge for breakfast, while simultaneously making a plan in his head on how he wants to tackle the plant book after the meal. He wants to get as much done as possible but he still has the problem of limited space. Jimin does not want to use up every available surface to allow the paintings to dry. As it is, they have to clear down the dining table every time they want to have a meal, then redress it with his painting supplies afterwards.
He gnaws on his lower lip as his fingers tap his on his temple, while he tries to think of what to do. There has to be some way to allow the paintings to dry without taking up too much space. Looking towards the window– an idea starts to form. Maybe he could pin the paper up on a line much like they do with clothes when they hang them out to dry. He can use the same kind of clothespins to do so.
Lost in thought– he does not hear the sound of a door opening or soft footsteps padding down the hall. It is not until his nose catches the strong scent of sandalwood that he turns his head. Yoongi is looking utterly adorable, with sleepy eyes and hair a little messy, as he walks into the kitchen.
“Oh– you made breakfast already?” The Alpha’s deep voice, raspy with sleep, sends a shiver down Jimin’s spine.
“I was already up.”
Yoongi gives him a thankful smile, his lips revealing his teeth and a little sliver of gum. His mate’s smile is something else– it does not occur very often but when it does– well… Jimin looks away before a blush can appear on his cheeks and betray his internal thoughts.
Remembering his idea from earlier, Jimin asks, “Do we have any extra clothespins or twine? I was thinking that I could rig something up so the paintings could hang to dry. That way I am not using up all the counter space.”
“I probably have some out in the workshop. I can check after breakfast. I think that is a clever idea.”
Over breakfast, they discuss their plans for the day. As Jimin is doing the dishes, Yoongi heads out to the workshop, returning with some twine and clothespins. Working together they pick the best spot to hang up the twine.
“Do you want me to put twine up in the gazebo too? In case you want to work outside?”
“ Oh– I did not think about that. That would be great. Thank you.”
“I will take my leave then. I will be back around lunch time.” Yoongi gives a brief bow of his head before heading out the door.
Jimin greedily inhales the sandalwood scent left behind before telling himself to get to work. He wants to get a lot done with the plant book today. Spreading out his supplies across the table, Jimin gets down to business.
✧˖ °. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁‧₊˚ ☾. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁˖°✧
Yoongi smiles to himself as he takes everything in. After weeks of hard work, Jimin’s desk is finally done and just at the perfect time too. His omega really deserves a dedicated workspace, especially now that Jimin has started to paint the pictures for the plant book. He debates whether or not he wants to interrupt his mate now or wait until lunch to surprise him.
His eyes glance around his workshop as he tries to come up with a decision. Ultimately, he decides to wipe down and polish the desk one last time before he shows it off to Jimin. Maybe he can do that around lunch time. A plan in place, Yoongi smiles to himself.
Hopefully this will cheer Jimin up. He is still unsure on what happened yesterday to make the Omega so upset like that, but he seemed to be doing better this morning, his tangerine scent returning to normal. The distress scent Jimin let out yesterday put Yoongi’s Alpha on edge. Even more so when there was nothing that he could do about it.
Wait– maybe there was something he could do. A distraction of sorts. They could go to the beach– then Jimin could collect his seashells and use it towards his ‘experiments.’ The Omega has seemed calmer when he was working on his paint experiments, and the fresh sea air might do them both good. Soon they would have to return to town, after all. Yoongi walked over to the storage closet, taking inventory of everything there. His tent is still in good shape, the sleeping bags as well.
This could work. Now he just needed to get Jimin on board. That should not be too hard.
Yoongi enters the cabin around lunch time– the cabin filled with Jimin’s normal tangerine scent. A good sign. He subtly inhales, taking it all in and glancing to the kitchen table, he finds Jimin with his head bowed down, eagerly painting away. There are numerous pages hanging up on the line to dry. Someone certainly was busy.
Not wanting to startle the Omega, Yoong clears this throat, “Ahem.” He watches as Jimin’s shoulders tense up before relaxing back down. His mate turns in his seat to face him.
“Oh– time went by too quickly. Is it really lunch time already? I have not made anything.” The Omega pouts, cutely.
Yoongi chuckles, “It is lunch time, but I see that you have been busy. I can prepare something easy really quickly, then after we eat I have something to show you.”
Jimin tilts his head to the side in confusion, “Something to show me?”
“Yep– out in the workshop.”
The Omega perks up upon hearing that. “You mean I get to actually see inside your workshop?” Yoongi nods. “Why now?”
“I have something special to show you. Are you able to clear a couple spots for us at the table while I go out to the garden to get what we need.” Jimin nods as he begins moving his things off to the side. Yoongi heads back out to the garden deciding that a simple salad would suffice for lunch.
During lunch, Jimin talks about all the different paintings that he was able to complete today. He just wanted Yoongi to double check everything to make sure they were accurate. So, while Jimin did the dishes, Yoongi inspected all the hanging pages, carefully removing the ones that needed small changes and placing them on the table.
When Jimin walked back over, Yoongi gave him his honest feedback. This page, the plant has five leaves, not four. And this one needs to show seven petals. And so on and so forth. Jimin nodded along with a serious look on his face. After Yoongi was done talking, Jimin reached out for the pages but Yoongi deflects him by grabbing a hold of Jimin’s wrist.
“Let’s go to the workshop first.” Not letting go of Jimin’s wrist, Yoongi leads them outside and to the workshop, stopping right outside the door. “Now close your eyes.”
Once Jimin’s eyes were closed, Yoongi opened up the door with his free hand, carefully leading Jimin inside. God, he hopes Jimin likes the desk. “Alright, you can look now.”
Yoongi watches with bated breath as Jimin opens his eyes, letting out a sharp gasp as the Omega brings his hand up to cover his mouth.
“Is that for me? ” Jimin asks. At Yoongi’s nods, Jimin squeals and sprints over to the desk, running his fingers over the smooth wood.
“I thought you could use a workstation of your own.” Yoongi supplied.
Tears started rolling down Jimin’s face but the Alpha could tell that they were happy tears. There was no distress or sad edge to Jimin’s scent, just happiness. His fingers rubbed along every corner of the desk, like they are trying to memorize its dimensions.
“We just need to figure out the perfect place for it. I was thinking over by the window, but honestly, wherever you think it should go works fine for me. We can rearrange things however you want.”
Working together, they carry the desk to the cabin. Yoongi’s Alpha puffs up its chest as it takes in the way Jimin inspects the cabin, trying to figure out the perfect place, his head tilting to the side like he is trying to solve a puzzle. It is actually quite endearing.
Jimin looks at Yoongi hesitatingly before asking, “Could we put it where the bookshelf is, then move the bookshelf to here and maybe…”
Yoongi does not hear the rest of what Jimin says, instead he is internally celebrating, his Alpha proud. His Omega is nesting– nesting in the shared living space. His Omega likes the gift that they made.
Together they work on unloading the bookshelf, to make it lighter for moving. Yoongi carefully shifts it out of the way before moving the desk over into its place.
He watches as his mate bounces up and down on his toes in excitement, clapping his hands. Jimin asks for a couple more things to be moved and Yoongi does it without question. Anything to make his Omega happy and to keep that pleased scent filling the space.
While Yoongi is putting the books back on the shelf, Jimin makes himself busy moving his painting supplies over to the desk and rearranging everything.
“I have some extra wood out in the shop, I could easily make a couple shelves to put over the desk.”
“Really?” Yoongi nods. “Oh– that would be wonderful. Then I could put my brushes up on them and…” Jimin continued to ramble on, but Yoongi just smiled, pleased with himself that he could put such delight on his Omega’s face– make him that happy.
“Jimin-ah?”
“Hmm,” Jimin turns to him with an expectant look on his face.
“I have been thinking and– What do you say about taking a little trip at the end of the week?”
“A trip? To where?”
“Well– you said something about using seashells for your paint, and the beach is about a half days trip away. You can get as many seashells as you want– do more of your ‘experiments’ and such.” Yoongi holds his breath as he waits for Jimin to reply.
“The beach?” Jimin turns his full gaze onto Yoongi. “We can go? It is that close?”
“Well it is still a bit of a journey. We’ll have to camp overnight, but yeah we can go. I usually go a couple times a year– there are a few things I forage for there, for my teas and salves. But I can understand if you do not want to…”
“I want to go. I– I have never been to the beach before. I always wanted to go.”
“Then we can go. Oof–” Yoongi exhales sharply as Jimin throws himself at him, hugging Yoongi tight.
“Thank you,” Jimin mutters against Yoongi’s chest. Yoongi’s Alpha is howling in joy at being so close to its mate like this.
When Jimin steps back, their eyes lock together, both of them frozen as they stare at each other. It would not take much for Yoongi to just lean forward to press his lips against Jimin’s.
“Anything for you, Jimin-ah,” Yoongi whispers under his breath. He leans down slightly. Jimin closes his eyes. Yoongi presses his lips to Jimin’s forehead, as the Omega lets out a shuddering breath. “I am going to go get started on those shelves. I will be back later.”
“Yy..yeah.” Jimin stutters, his eyes wide, and Yoongi takes a step back and heads out the door.
Once in his workshop, Yoongi places his hand to lips. They are still tingling from where he pressed them his mate’s head a moment ago. A smile comes over his face as he remembers Jimin’s reaction to the desk. That went better than he could even imagine. And, on top of that, Jimin had said yes to the beach trip!
Yoongi could not wait for the end of the week.
Chapter Text
To say Jimin was excited for the upcoming trip was an understatement. He never thought coming out here in the middle of the woods would lead to this! A trip to the beach! He will be able to put his toes in the sand! Hear the roar of the waves! And finally be able to tell for himself if the water was really as blue as all those books claimed.
He kept badgering his mate during meal times, asking what he needed to bring! To pack! He needed to be prepared!
But Yoongi just kept replying in that deep voice of his, “It’s fine Jimin-ah, I’ll take care of everything. You just have to show up and be ready to walk.”
And of course Jimin pouts good naturedly at his response, but internally he is pleased, especially his inner Omega– their Alpha is providing for them so well.
The weather of course has been absolutely gorgeous. Jimin has been spending most of his days outside in the gazebo working on the plant book, feeling more and more confident with each picture that he paints. And of course Yoongi is there to praise him every step of the way.
It’s the night before they are supposed to leave. Jimin is taking his time in the bath, scrubbing himself clean and slathering himself with oil to enhance his scent. His mind wanders back over the last several weeks– to everything that has happened and to everything that has changed.
Jimin has to admit that things have changed for him tremendously in the last couple of weeks. He has found himself, discovered things that have brought him joy. When he first came out here– he thought he would hate it, but now he honestly cannot imagine a life not out here.
He has learned to love the quietness that being out in the woods has to bring. How nothing is rushed out here. That he can unapologetically be himself, that he doesn’t need to hide. Returning back home to his parents now would change that.
Jimin knows that after the beach trip he has a decision to make. A big one. And most importantly, he needs to talk to Taehyung. He needs to understand.
The water barely makes a sound as Jimin lets the plug loose, his eyes watching as the water flows away. His mind, a mess of emotions. Quickly he throws on his sleepclothes and dashes to his room. A sense of relief fills him as he snuggles down into his nest– and more importantly, the knitted blanket his mate made for him. Still rich with Yoongi’s scent. It’s easy to fall asleep.
Jimin awakes early the next day– eager for the journey ahead, but still fairly sleepy. He changes his clothes and stumbles into the kitchen, rubbing at his eyes slightly to get rid of the sleep. He hears a soft chuckle from the Alpha, which makes him stick out his tongue in retaliation.
“Go ahead and eat, Jimin-ah. You’ll need your strength for the journey ahead.”
Walking over to the Alpha, Jimin takes the bowl of porridge from him as well as a bowl of cut up fruit, carrying it over to the table. Yoongi follows, not far behind him.
They eat in a comfortable silence, Jimin still waking up for the day and well, Yoongi– he never has much to say. It’s only when Yoongi takes away the breakfast dishes and starts to clean them that Jimin feels more with it.
“Are you sure I do not need to pack anything? What about my paints? Do I need my paints? Would that be too much?” Jimin continues to ask the same questions he has been asking all week.
The Alpha smiles, “I have everything that we need.” Yoongi points over towards the door where there are two packs leaning against the wall. “I just need to finish locking the cabin up and we can head out.”
“What can I do?”
“Make sure the fire is out in the bathroom, the coals cool. Put the plug in the tub. Make sure the window is shut in your room. I will handle things out here.” Excited to have a task, Jimin rushes off, following Yoongi’s directions.
He meets the Alpha at the front door once he is done. Yoongi hands him the smaller pack and Jimin slings it over his back, smiling. He cannot believe he is going to the beach today!
At first, the path is one that Jimin recognizes, leading them to the flower field. But then they continue beyond that and farther, past a point that Jimin no longer recognizes. The forest and trees slowly change around him.
Unable to help himself, Jimin keeps stopping to point out different flowers and plants, asking Yoongi what they are. And Yoongi, the ever patient Alpha that he is, answers all of Jimin’s questions. Even pointing out some of the plants that Jimin has recently added to the plant book. Jimin knows that he is probably slowing them down, but he cannot help himself– he is curious, and there is just so much to see!
Several hours into their journey, they break for a quick lunch by a small stream. Yoongi hands him a couple pieces of dried meat before replenishing their water skins. Jimin basks in the beauty of the area around them. His fingers itching to sketch the stream and the rocks around it.
Yoongi reaches into his pack, rummaging for a moment before pulling out Jimin’s sketchbook and some charcoal, handing them over to the Omega. Jimin takes them with a raised brow.
“I know that look in your eye. You are itching to create something.”
“Bu– But we need to get to the beach.” Jimin tries to argue.
“We have plenty of time. Go ahead and sketch, I know you want to.”
Jimin smiles and gets to work, his fingers moving over the page, recreating the scene. The flowers along the stream, the rocks and most importantly– his mate. The slant of his nose, the scar bisecting his eye, the expression on his face. Yoongi is beautiful.
Jimin does not want to forget this moment. He finishes his sketch, closing the book.
Yoongi holds out his hand however Jimin pulls the sketchbook closer to him. “I think I’ll keep this with me… in case I want to sketch again.” He slides the book and charcoal into his pack.
His mate just smiles in response, grabbing his own pack. Together they set off, Yoongi leading the way. The further they travel the less dense the trees become, more and more of the blue sky peeking out, until they are out in the open. Jimin almost doesn't realize it at first.
Nose crinkling, Jimin looks around, scenting the air. It smells different here– he catches the faint hint of salt.
They must be close to the beach!
“Are we there yet?” He cannot help blurting out.
Yoongi chuckles. “Not too much further.”
Jimin hears it before he actually sees it. His eyes widen as he looks over at Yoongi. “Is that…”
His mate jerks his head towards the hill ahead of them. “It is just over that rise there. Go ahead, Jimin-ah.”
He does not need to be told twice. Jimin takes off up the hill. Panting when he reaches the top but nothing - NOTHING - could beat this view! The water looks so blue and the waves– they are bigger than he realized. It’s just so vast!
Jimin is unsure how long he stands there, staring out towards the sea. His fingers itching to put this view to paper but at the same time he wants to get closer. When he senses his mate next to him, Jimin spins around.
“This is more than I could ever imagine.”
Yoongi chuckles. “Well, let us get closer then.”
Together they make their way down the hill. The scents of the sea getting stronger the closer they get, the sound of the waves louder. Jimin is still amazed. Yoongi stops right where the grass starts to turn to sand, a few trees providing shade from the sun.
“It is best if we set up camp here. The sea has a mind of its own, better to be safe.”
Yoongi sets down his pack and Jimin follows suit. His mate immediately begins to pull items out of this pack. First a rope, followed by a big piece of fabric. Jimin watches as Yoongi ties the rope between the two trees before taking the fabric and throwing it over top of the rope. Then he notices that there are pieces of twine at each corner of the fabric. He cocks his head to the side as he takes note of all the little things the Alpha is doing. Yoongi finds four rocks, tying twine around them before spreading out the corners of the fabric.
Ah– Jimin realizes what Yoongi has done. It is smart actually. A makeshift shelter, Jimin was curious on where they were going to spend the night but now he gets it. Next his mate grabs a bed roll out of his pack, spreading it out. Yoongi’s eye looks over everything before nodding his head in satisfaction.
“Wow,” Jimin cannot help but murmur out loud.
Yoongi spins around, his head going to the back of his neck rubbing it sheepishly. Almost like he forgot that Jimin was there.
“Now that the tent is set up. Let us head to the water, yea?” Jimin nods his head eagerly. “Leave your boots here.” Yoongi says as he slides his feet out of his own. Jimin quickly follows.
Walking through sand is odd. The little bumps are deceiving and a couple times, he loses his balance but Yoongi is always there to catch him. Shaking his head fondly as he does so.
Jimin’s eyes grow wider the closer they get, his hand clutching Yoongi’s arm. His mate pulls up along until they are standing in the surf, side by side. The water lapping at their ankles, to and fro. Then he spots it– a seashell!
He lets out a squeal as he bends over to grab the shell, not realizing a wave was coming at him, knocking the poor Omega down. Jimin sits there blinking the water out of his eyes, sputtering at the salty taste and what does his mate do?
Well Yoongi laughs— a full belly laugh with his gums on display. He wraps his arms around his stomach as he hunches over.
Narrowing his eyes, Jimin wheels back his arm before propelling it forward, splashing water directly on Yoongi. Then it’s the Omega’s turn to giggle at the confused look on Yoongi’s face. His mate stalks towards him, Jimin scurries onto his feet and takes off running, stumbling and laughing along the way as Yoongi gives chase.
A strong arm wraps around Jimin’s waist, lifting him into the air. Jimin lets out a scream, kicking his feet and laughing at the same time as Yoongi drags him further into the water. The waves crashing around them. Jimin tries to break away but to no avail, his mate’s arms hold strong around him.
They continue to play in the sea, chasing and splashing one another. Their wet clothes cling to them. Jimin cannot remember the last time that he had this much fun. At some point, he ends up on Yoongi’s back with his legs wrapped around his waist. As the water softly crashes around them.
“Alpha ,” Jimin whines. “We need to look for shells.” Yoongi chuckles but walks them up the shore, Jimin still on his back.
“Start looking.”
Jimin slides off of Yoongi’s back. His eyes scan over the sand, finding a shell and quickly snatching it up. But he makes sure to keep an eye out for the oncoming waves this time. He starts a small pile of seashells but it quickly grows bigger. Until finally he declares that he has enough.
“Alpha– I think…” Jimin freezes. Yoongi has taken off his shirt. Water droplets trailing down his skin.
“Hmm,” Yoongi looks up from where he is wringing out his shirt.
Jimin swallows, “I think I have enough.” Yoongi looks down at Jimin’s pile of shells and laughs.
“It looks like you have more than enough.” His mate lays his shirt on the sand and starts moving the seashells on to it. Jimin shakes his head and soon joins in, helping him transfer the shells. Yoongi carefully grabs the corners of the shirt, making sure not a single seashell falls out.
Together they walk back to their campsite, Jimin staying a step or two behind Yoongi, admiring the muscles of his mate’s back. His Alpha is strong– isn’t he? Yoongi lays the bundle down by the tent.
“There are some clean clothes in your pack. Hang your wet ones over the line to dry.” Yoongi squats down, pulling his boots onto his feet. “I am going to gather some wood for the fire and do some fishing at the stream nearby. Do not go near the water while I am gone.” Yoongi looks up at him when Jimin remains mute.
“Yes– stay here. Got it.”
Yoongi grabs a shirt from his pack, slipping it on overhead before taking off. Jimin keeps his eyes on him until he is out of sight. A shiver goes down him, he is unsure if it's from the cool breeze or something else…
He slips out of his wet clothes hanging them over the rope before donning his clean ones. Curious about what else his mate packed for him, Jimin decided to rummage through his pack. He found another set of clothes, the blanket from the living room that Jimin usually uses, a couple empty jars and his mortar and pestle.
The Omega peers back over towards his pile of shells, selecting one and starting to grind it down with his tools. It takes a little bit of force but soon he has a powder. He pours that into an empty jar before grabbing another shell and repeating the process. Every so often his eyes drift over in the direction where the Alpha disappeared, wondering how long Yoongi was going to be.
✧˖ °. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁‧₊˚ ☾. ݁₊ ⊹ . ݁˖ . ݁˖°✧
Yoongi could still smell Jimin on his skin, it was making him feel a little crazed. The way that the Omega looked in the water was a sight that Yoongi would not soon forget. He had needed to escape for a moment.
Quickly he gathers some wood, making a pile to take back with him to camp before taking the fishing line and hooks out of his pocket. One overturned rock later, he had several grubs to use as bait. Tying the line to a stick he throws it into the water and waits.
It does not take long before there is a nibble. Yoongi repeats the process until he has several fish for dinner. He ties the lines to his belt before gathering the wood up into his arms and carrying it all back to camp.
There he finds that Jimin has already arranged some rocks into a circle for the fire. Yoongi drops the wood by the stone circle, but where was his mate?
Jimin’s citrusy scent was still fairly strong, so he should not be far. He didn’t go to the sea, did he? The Alpha looks out nervously towards the water, trying to see if he can spot the shape of his mate.
Zzzzzz
A noise behind him draws his attention. Yoongi peeks into the end of the tent, where he finds the Omega snoring softly. His inner wolf’s chest puffs up at the sight. Seeing his mate so content just does something to him.
With a smile on his face, Yoongi grabs the necessary items to start a fire and gets to work. It just takes a little patience and determination, but soon there is a fire going in no time. He finds some sturdy sticks and creates a spit, slowly turning the fish over the fire to be cooked. And just as he finishes the last fish, he feels a presence beside him.
“That smells good,” comes a sleepy voice. He feels Jimin lean towards him to get a closer look at what he is doing.
“Help yourself, I’m finishing up with the last one.” Yoongi nods his head towards the fish already done, laying off to the side to cool down.
Jimin reaches over, grabbing a stick with one of the fish on it. He uses his fingers to tear off a piece before taking a bite, moaning softly at the taste.
“This is good.”
“I am glad you like it.” Yoongi finishes cooking the last fish, setting it down off to the side to cool. He grabs an already cooled one and takes a bite.
“This tastes better than normal.”
“It is the sea. Brings out the appetite. Did you have a good nap?”
Jimin blushes. “Yes. I guess I was more tired than I realized.”
They continue to make small talk back and forth as they finish their dinner. Yoongi looks pointedly away when Jimin licks the grease from the fish off his fingers.
“If my memory serves me, there is a wildberry bush around here somewhere. Do you want to go look with me? Might make a good dessert.”
Jimin smiles and nods his head yes. Having more foresight this time, Yoongi grabs a basket before leading the way back towards the stream, where they refill their waterskins before continuing on. Ultimately, they find a bush with red and black berries.
“Aww– You were right!” Jimin bounces forward, snatching a couple berries off the branch before popping them into his mouth. Turning back to Yoongi with red stained lips and a smile on his face.
They work as a team to fill the basket with berries before walking back towards camp. Yoongi makes mental notes along the way of different plants and herbs he needs to gather the next day.
Once they are back at camp, Yoongi realizes his dilemma. He never told Jimin that they only had one tent… He closes his eyes at his forgetfulness. He meant to tell his mate sooner, but they were having such a good time that he forgot. His scent must have soured because Jimin turned towards him with questions in his eyes.
“I need to wash up.” Yoongi grabs a clean pair of pants and hurries off. Back at the stream he rubs his hand down his face. He cannot believe that he screwed up like that. Stepping into the cool water, he rinses the dirt and salt off from the day. Berating himself slightly. It is a nice enough day, he can just sleep outside the tent.
Yoongi makes his way back to camp. He peeks inside the tent to see Jimin already fluffing up some blankets and rearranging them. His inner alpha howls in joy to see their mate nesting.
“Ahem–” Jimin turns around at the noise. “Can you hand me a blanket?” His mate’s brow furrows but hands Yoongi a blanket. But before he can step away, Jimin cocks his head to the side and says, “Where are you going?”
“I was going to sleep out here.”
“Why?”
Yoongi rubs the back of his head. “There is only one tent.”
Jimin’s mouth forms an ‘o’ as he looks around, before turning his determined gaze onto Yoongi. “You can just sleep here with me. There is room.”
“I–”
“Do not argue with me. Just sleep here, Alpha.”
Deciding that it is best not to argue, Yoongi nods his head in agreement. He slips off his boots before ducking down to enter the tent, the blanket still in his hand. Jimin pats the empty space to the right of him and Yoongi stretches out, pulling the blanket over him and putting his arm behind his head to use as a pillow.
Jimin settles down in the space beside him, curling onto his side away from the Alpha. There’s only a small sliver of space between them. With the sound of the waves and the faint hint of tangerines in his nose, Yoongi finds himself dozing off with a smile on his face.
The Alpha awakes the next morning feeling overly warm. As awareness starts to overcome him, he realizes that just one side of him feels warm. And just as his mind is catching up to what is going on, he hears a low whine right before something - or rather someone - nuzzles into his neck. There’s a mixture of sandalwood and tangerine filling the air.
Yoongi’s eyes shoot open. Jimin is cuddling him and sleep scenting him. He knows that he should pull away but at this moment he finds that his limbs did not want to cooperate. The Alpha did not think he would ever experience this feeling– this level of comfort– this closeness with his mate.
Jimin starts to squirm more actively next to him, and Yoongi could tell that the Omega was starting to wake up. Not knowing what else to do, the Alpha feigned being asleep. Closing his eyes and slowing down his breathing. He doesn’t even make a sound when Jimin snuggles deeper into his neck, letting out sounds of contentment.
Then the Omega stilled.
Yoongi could pinpoint the exact moment that awareness came back to Jimin. The way that his mate’s breath caught in his throat, the stiffness of his limbs before he slowly peeled himself off of Yoongi. The Alpha could tell that Jimin was taking care not to wake him up as he crawled out of the tent.
Only when Yoongi knew that Jimin was fully out of sight, did his hand come up to his neck. He brushed his fingers along where his mate had been nuzzling him. He can tell that their scents have mixed together. The scenting– it will not last long, maybe only for an hour or so. Yoongi however was going to relish it for as long as he could.
The Alpha waited an appropriate amount of time, so as to not draw suspicion, before he left the tent. There he found Jimin staring at the waves in the distance, a faint blush to his cheeks. Yoongi walked over with the basket of berries, popping a few in his mouth before holding his hand out to Jimin. His mate holds out his own hand, accepting them.
“There are some plants and herbs that only grow here that I need to grab. I was going to go foraging before the day got too hot.”
“Are we going to leave after?”
Yoongi shrugs, “If you want. Or we could stay one more day before we head back. The cabin and garden will be okay another day without us.”
Jimin smiles, “I would really like to stay another day. I want to play in the water again.”
Of course Jimin would want to go back to the beach, Yoongi sighs good naturedly. “I guess we can spend time in the water.” Jimin laughs. “Just wait for me to get back first, yeah?”
His mate nods his head eagerly, holding up two fingers. “I promise. I want to sketch some, anyway. It is just so pretty out here. I want to capture all that I can.”
Yoongi grabs his plant gathering bag and heads off into the woods. Running on autopilot, the Alpha works efficiently and quickly to gather everything that he needed. This will definitely help his dwindling supplies. Heading back towards camp he finds Jimin right where he left him, only this time his head was bent towards his sketch book.
Right as Yoongi is setting down his bag, Jimin’s head pops up. “Are you done? Can we go to the beach now?”
“Yes– but this time, let us leave our clothes behind.” Jimin starts to sputter and Yoongi quickly backpedals. “I mean let us not get them wet– soiled– like yesterday. I do not have another set to wear.”
“ Ah– that is smart.”
Yoongi turns away from Jimin, stripping off his shirt and pants until he is just in his underclothes. Folding the items and placing them right inside the tent. He does not turn back around to face Jimin, rather heads towards the beach.
“I will meet you by the water.”
It does not take long for the Omega to join him. Yoongi glances out the corner of his eye and freezes. Jimin decided to heed his advice, he stands next to the Alpha in only his underclothing. Yoongi has not seen the Omega bare since their initial mating, but even then his memory of that time is hazy due to the frenzy brought on by their respective rut and heat.
Yoongi knew that Jimin was gorgeous, but seeing him like this, it is more than he can even imagine. Starting to feel warm all over (and not from the sun), Yoongi steps further into the waves without saying a word. When the water reaches his chest, he ducks down beneath the waves before springing back up, flicking his wet hair behind him.
He hears a loud yelp behind him, spinning around all he sees is the blue water and sand. Where is Jimin?
Where.
Is.
Jimin?!
Frantically Yoongi starts to look around. He knew better than to take his eyes off his inexperienced mate. Suddenly, Jimin bursts from the water coughing. The Alpha rushes over to him, his hands going to Jimin’s shoulders, running them up and down as he assesses his mate. His inner Alpha is frantic that something is wrong.
As his hands run over Jimin’s chest, his neck, he notices that his mate gets eerily still and quiet. Yoongi raises his eyes. Jimin is staring at him with heat in his gaze, a flush to his cheeks. Oh–
Yoongi’s hand goes to Jimin’s cheek next, cupping it in his hand. His thumb strokes it slowly. Their gazes seem to lock on one another, Yoongi’s eyes searching before he slowly starts to lean forward. If Jimin gave any indication that he did not want this, Yoongi would pull back. Instead Jimin raises up on his toes to meet him.
Their lips brushed together and it was magic. Yoongi felt as if sparks were flying around them. He pulls back, his eyes searching once again, finding only heat there. He brings his other hand up to cup the other side of Jimin’s face before their lips crash together in a heated blaze.
The waves crash around them, throwing Jimin off balance. Yoongi releases his face to steady him. The Omega gives him a determined look before he jumps towards Yoongi, wrapping his legs around Yoongi’s waist, Jimin’s arms going around the Alpha’s neck. This time Jimin is the one to initiate the kiss. Yoongi holds onto the Omega tight, the scent of salt and tangerine blooming around him.
Jimin tightens his legs, rocking his hips forward causing him to let out a moan into Yoongi’s mouth. The Alpha’s grip tightens, but Jimin will not be stopped. He does it again and again. Letting out little ‘ahs– ahs– ahs–’ as he does so.
Yoongi has enough sense that if this is going to happen, he does not want it to be in the water. Keeping his hold firm, he stumbles his way back to shore– to their camp as Jimin continues to trail kisses all over, especially at the scent gland on Yoongi’s neck, sandalwood bursting forth.
Carefully he lowers Jimin down to the sleeping mat. The air is charged around them. Jimin reaches his hand up, grabbing the back of Yoongi’s neck and pulling him down.
