Chapter Text
Wind whipped against Eliza’s face as she raced across the fields on top of Silver Star. She could feel the horse’s powerful muscles moving beneath her thighs.
Jen was in front of her, atop her own horse, speeding ahead. The landscape was a blur of colors, hues of summer greens blending together as they raced across the open land. Just a little more—but as their imaginary finish line loomed ahead, Eliza knew she had lost the race.
“Keep at it—one day you just might smoke me,” Jen said after they had dismounted and led the horses back to the stables.
Eliza shook her head as they stepped back outside. “I doubt it. You’ve been doing this your whole life.”
“We’ll see ‘bout that,” Jen drawled. “But I reckon the winner’s earned herself a prize.”
Eliza turned to her, catching the way Jen’s gaze immediately dropped to her lips, her eyes darkening with desire.
It was like a match was lit and Eliza felt her own desire burst into flame at the familiar heated gaze, but there was no way she would give in to Jen’s demand so easily. The adrenaline from the race still thrummed in her veins, demanding another high.
“A prize? Ha! You’ll have to catch me first!” Eliza declared before taking off, her laughter ringing through the yard.
Behind her, Jen groaned in frustration, then came the unmistakable sound of boots pounding against the ground. Eliza could tell Jen was quickly gaining on her, so she took a sharp turn toward the barn, a mischievous grin on her face.
“Hey now, where d’you think you’re running off to?” Jen called, amusement palpable in her voice.
“Oh, I think you know full well,” Eliza shot back without looking over her shoulder.
She had barely taken a few steps into the barn when strong arms wrapped around her waist and whisked her off the ground.
“You’re mine now,” Jen murmured as Eliza squealed in delight. “Reckon I know exactly what to do with you.”
Jen’s breath tickled Eliza’s ear in a delicious way, sending shivers down her spine.
Within seconds, Eliza found herself gently tossed into a fluffy pile of hay, Jen quickly following after. Jen’s weight settled on top of her, pinning her in place as she grabbed Eliza’s wrists and pressed them over her head.
“That you did,” Eliza murmured, her eyes a mix of desire and surrender. Her heart pounded wildly—both from the chase and from the simmering want ready to ignite.
Jen growled softly, the heat of her want and need radiating off her. The chase had only stoked the fire burning inside her since the race. She crashed her lips against Eliza’s, a muffled moan escaping from Eliza before she kissed back just as fiercely.
As the kiss quickly heated, Jen released her hands to cup her face. Eliza immediately took advantage, her hand going behind Jen’s head, threading her fingers through her brilliantly white hair and giving it a sharp tug. It earned a low, pleased groan from Jen. The movement made Jen’s cattleman hat tip off her head, landing beside them in the hay.
Jen deepened the kiss, her hungry mouth demanding access that Eliza granted more than happily, their tongues greeting and then playing with each other before she felt Jen smile against her lips, and then the tongue withdrew. It was soon followed by a bite and tug of her lower lip that drove Eliza wild.
Jen was wild, untamed—everything Eliza had missed from life until now.
With a breathless laugh, she hooked her legs around Jen’s waist, locking her in place before crashing their lips together once more.
