Work Text:

Kafka sighed, it had been a tiring day to say the least but she finally was able to head back home. She got through the door silently “Meko? I’m home” she called out, taking off her coat and hanging it on the coat hanger. She walked further into the house, not even having to turn on the light as she was so familiar to the lay of the place

“I’m in our room!” Himeko called out, her voice a sweet relief after the day. Kafka easily found her way to their bedroom, she walked into the room and oh. The sight of Himeko shirtless, the scars on her body framed by the light of the room, was something she would never forget. It wasn't like she hadn’t seen Himeko’s body before, but that everytime she laid her eyes on Himeko her breath was taken away.

“You’re staring again, my love” Himeko commented, startling Kafka out of her trance “Can’t blame me for staring at the beauty you so easily show” Kafka grinned, getting closer and shedding herself of her shirt as well, shoulders rolling with relief as the weight lifted off her. Kafka got closer to Himeko, her fingers trailing down her back. Tracing her scars lightly, each shape burned into her skin a memory.

“You always look so beautiful..” Kafka murmured out, leaving a small kiss on himeko’s neck. “As do you, my spider.. Do you mind if I look at you? You came home late, and I have a feeling you got yourself into trouble” Himeko asked teasingly, her tone holding notes of concern even though she came off as teasing.

“You know me too well,” Kafka chuckled softly, allowing Himeko to turn around watching as Himeko’s eyes trailed over her body, her hand reaching out, fingers trailing over her new scrapes. Nothing serious of course, something she got from incorrectly deflecting a sword. Himeko got up and walked away to the bathroom, coming back with a first-aid kit. She pulled out an antiseptic and a needle “You always find yourself in some situation, don't you?” Himeko sighed out, wiping over the wound and ignoring as Kafka subtly flinched as the sensation. Himeko got to stitching the wound, doing it as effectively and quickly as she could.

Kafka held still the whole time, her eyes still roaming Himeko’s body. Looking at the scars and burns she had from many things, the skin marred with memories and silent suffering. “And all done, feeling alright?” Himeko spoke, once again drawing kafka out of her staring habit “Thank you darling, and yes. No need to fret over me, I’ve had worse you know?” Kafka let herself chuckle, amusement lacing her voice as she ran a hand through Himeko’s hair. Drawing her close for a light kiss. “There’s no need for you to mention that you’ve had worse you know, sometimes you should keep your thoughts in your head.” Himeko sighed out, returning the kiss with a small smile. “Speaking of scars, where did you get that one from?” she asked only for Kafka to dramatically sigh and point to her collar bone where the scar laid, the skin raised where the long scar stayed “This one? I got it from bladie when I first tried to recruit him, how cruel of him..” Kafka said dramatically, laughing at Himeko’s blank and unimpressed face. “And I wonder why I married you” Himeko grumbled out

“Oh c’mon, you love me. Don’t lie” Kafka purred out, a look of pure adoration in her voice. “You’re lucky that I love you, otherwise I would’ve kicked you out of the room. You know what? I still might do that” Himeko challenged, flicking Kafka's nose with a smile.

“You wouldn’t do that would you?” Kafka put a hand to her chest, playfully gasping offensively. Ducking as Himeko swatted at her playfully, dragging Kafka down to a lying position and placing a kiss on her forehead

Himeko hummed happily before trailing her fingers around Kafka’s scars, she knew where a few of them came from. A scar that was only a centimeter away from her heart is a constant reminder of the last time she worked for the Devil Hunters. Another scar the length of a ruler and width of a straw trailed from Kafka’s ribs down to the beginning of her hips, a scar from a haunting mission that left Kafka shaken- or as shaken as she could be. Kafka never told Himeko what she had seen that day, and Himeko didn’t think she would ever get to know what it was.

“Sometimes, the thought of you never coming home haunts me.. And I know you’ll just say ‘I will always come home to you’ like always. But that fear will always be there, so please just be careful” Himeko begged softly, she looked Kafka in the eyes, there were no words that could explain the constant fear Himeko was in about losing her.

“Hime.. I promise I’ll be more careful, I’ve never wanted to scare you but you know that one day. Someday I might not come back, but.. I hope that day will never come” Kafka spoke, her voice filled with regret and eyes full of love

No further words were needed for the rest of the night, the comfort of each other’s hands running down the other's body was enough to chase away the days that were left unspoken, some days it left them with a bitter throat. A thought that maybe- just maybe if they spoke about those days things would get better. But nonetheless there are some words that just shouldn't be said, memories that shouldn’t be talked about.

In the end, love was the one thing that kept them together and inevitably tore them apart. But to them, the curse of loving was worth the eventual end. The journey together was something that they would never forget, they were two souls who knew where they were. And that would never change, even if they separated.
