Chapter Text

“Is it just me or is this ship kind of like the Crazy House?” Ayana sighed, overwhelmed by the whole cacophony of activity going on. She was referring to the Cozy House, of course. Only she would call it by its more… accurate nickname.

“Isn’t this fun?” Taki smiled sweetly.

“Well, I guess I can’t deny that it’s… entertaining.” Ayana smiled back.

The two were at the pizza place, having eaten two slices of pizza each. Ayana liked sausage and pepperoni. Taki was pretty obsessed with cheese. The two were about to visit the gift shop and go shopping.

In the background, Zuri was watching them, ducked behind a giant statue of an axolotl. She had on her binoculars. The word “yuri goggles” were written on them.

“Hehe, now that these two are on a ship together, it’s time to set sail.” Zuri said.

“…You know, I never have any idea what you’re ever talking about.” Shizuku said.

“I mean to say that I think Ayana and Taki are cute together.” Zuri squealed. “I ship them.”

“Ship… them? Like FedEx?” Shizuku said.

“Exactly.” Said Zuri.

“Okay.” Shizuku said stoically. “You’re weird.”

“Says you.” Said Zuri.

“Little do I know, I think Shizuku and Zuri are cute together too.” Said Azalea. She was at the pizza place as well, talking to Lynn, her girlfriend.

Meanwhile…

“It’s not fair how cute Azalea and Lynn are together.” Taki said. “We need to be cuter.”

“Well, I already think you’re cute enough.” Ayana said. She sighed. “Maybe the problem here is me…”

“But Ayana, you’re the cutest girl I’ve ever met…” Taki gasped. “Really!”

Ayana blushed. Taki always insisted she was cute. But Ayana always just felt like a stick in the mud—a plain Jane. Except there was already someone named Plain Jane in the Cozy House, so even that role was taken.

Ayana wasn’t sure about her own cuteness. But she knew one thing. Taki was adorable.

The way Taki constantly apologized for everything hurt Ayana’s heart, but also made her so endearing. She was so modest and polite. She was sweet, gentle, and soft and fluffy… Like a waffle with extra cream and a berry on top.

Taki was very expressive and animated. She was cheerful and funny, even though she was vey sensitive and emotional… And she gave the sweetest, warmest hugs.

Ayana could’ve gone on and on, if she could’ve only found the words to express how precious and wonderful Taki was.

“Gee, and I’m a songwriter too.” Ayana sighed to herself. “This is shameful…”

They arrived at the gift shop on the ship…

“Ayana, look…” Taki was kneeling down, looking between where two shelves met. In between the gaps, a stuffed animal was trapped. It was a black-and-white dog with big sparkly eyes. It had a somewhat sad, lonesome expression.

“How sad… this plushie has been abandoned and lost all alone here… who knows how long it’s been trapped?” Taki frowned.

“Don’t tell me you feel sad for it.” Ayana said.

“I’m going to buy her.” Taki said, nodding.

Taki was just so precious. Even feeling sorry for inanimate objects. Aside from that, she felt utmost compassion for everyone.

“What did I ever do to deserve Taki…” Ayana found herself blushing and smiling. She bought herself a few modest, boyish T-shirts and a hat with bear ears that she secretly thought would make her look cuter.

Taki’s bag had the stuffed puppy, along with a few gorgeous dresses. Ayana couldn’t help but feel wonderful for Taki. Up until around a year ago, she had never had the courage to wear a dress before, as a transgender woman. Now Taki was fully embracing her true self.

“So, what are you going to name your new friend?” Ayana smiled.

“I think I’ll name her… Yana.” Taki smiled. “After you, of course!”

Ayana felt herself blushing.

“Taki, you dork.” She said.

Taki giggled. Her laugh was beautiful and like music to the ears. She pat Ayana’s head.

“You are cute when you get all flustered like this.” Taki smiled.

“…Oh, be quiet.” Ayana said. But she couldn’t conceal her blushing cheeks. “Anyway, um… Yana is cute. I think she’s happy you noticed her and saved her.”

“Of course, she’s so cute, I had have to name her after the cutest person I know.” Taki smiled.

“Ah! Um… Well, I can’t wait to see you in those new dresses.” Ayana said bashfully.

Taki gently scooped up Ayana’s hand into hers and kissed it. Ayana felt chills run down her spine. Soon enough, the two were embracing.

Meanwhile…

“Yes, YES… They’re being so lovey-dovey right now!” Zuri said, looking through her yuri goggles.

Shizuku just stared blankly.

“Don’t worry, Shizuku. I think you’re cute too.” Zuri said.

“…W-What is this all of a sudden?” Shizuku was blushing before she knew it.

“Hehe, nothing.” Zuri said in a teasing manner…

But deep inside, Zuri was wishing she could have that kind of love with Shizuku too, one day. The same love Ayana and Taki shared, or perhaps Azalea and Lynn. But they’d put their own spin on it, and be their own couple.

“It wasn’t nothing. One day, I want to spoil and dote on you too, Shizuku.” Zuri thought. But for now, watching other “yuri” couples was how she got her daily dose of sweet feelings.

More cruise fun!

Chapter Text

Amelie’s POV

It was a normal day in Mr. Hazel’s Hazardous Math Class of Chaos. It was the final class session of the day, and strangely quiet.

It was midwinter. The sun was setting very early, painting the surroundings a dull gray. A cold chill was setting in the dimly-lit room. The class was located on floor 31, and in the side of school that didn’t have enough electricity, so the atmosphere was even gloomier.

Mr. Hazel was teaching calculus. Almost everyone was failing the unit, except for… You guessed it! Hikaru, of course.

Everyone was starting to feel a bit forlorn, until…

“Pop field trip time! We’re going on a relaxing ocean cruise to the Watercolor Islands!” Ms. Riddle burst into the room and began skipping around in her usual fashion.

A pop field trip was like a pop quiz, except it was a field trip!

The atmosphere in the room felt lighter.

Even though it was an infamous Ms. Riddle field trip, it sounded like a nice one! Everyone’s spirits became lifted by the news! Well, almost everyone…

“I’m too normal for this school.” Shimo groaned. “I hate these crazy trips.”

Shimo was famous for being the most normal person in the entire Academy.

“Oh, come on, Emo Shimo.” Juhong said. “This is going to be a luxury vacation!”

“I don’t know, Juhong.” Lanyue said. “This is Ms. Riddle we’re dealing with.”

“Oh, but the Watercolor Islands are beautiful!” Nagisa said. “I’ve always wanted to go.”

Everyone was going to ride the Riddle Mobile down to the cruise port. The Riddle Mobile was a sparkly purple school bus covered in whimsical decals.

Everyone’s seats were randomized. I ended up sandwiched in a seat in the middle with Rhona Hydra, Flurry the talking bunny, and this kid named Todd, who was only in 5th grade and was one of the little gremlin kids. There was also barely enough room for my friend Mizore. Her nickname was reluctantly Missouri, because that’s how people tended to mispronounce it.

“Hey Ame!” Todd said. “Do you wanna see something cool?”

Todd stuck his eraser up his nose, shook himself around, and then the eraser fell out of his armpit. Then he snorted with laughter.

“Uh… cool?” I said. It was actually kind of gross. Rhona, on the other hand, seemed weirdly impressed. Mizore looked like she was going to either laugh or cry.

“I guess we’re going to have to deal with Todd the whole way.” Flurry whispered to me, sighing. Now Todd was beatboxing.

Todd was a strange kid. All the Whimsy Academy kids were kind of strange really. But today, Todd was feeling lonely because his best friend Mark was absent, which was why he was bugging everyone else.

But right before the Riddle Mobile took off…

“Hey! It’s Mark!” I heard Todd yell. Mark had arrived at the last minute! The two best friends raced towards each other as if they hadn’t met in years, tumbling into a tackle-hug.

“Aww, isn’t this a beautiful reunion?” Mizore sniffled, wiping her nose on her fluffy handkerchief. Juhong cheered. Sonata rolled her eyes.

The Riddle Mobile rode off into the sunset, through the forest and through the lively city at night to the cruise port.

At one point, there was karaoke.

But to get to the cruise port, the Riddle Mobile had to get on the roller coaster path of doom!

The Riddle Mobile was now going on a giant roller coaster track.

In a seat at the front, Octavia was performing a dramatic opera to set the mood. Because you KNOW things are getting too real when you hear dramatic opera.

“Ugh, I get sick on roller coasters…” Shimo groaned from a seat in the back. Melody, who was sitting right next to him, screamed for him to “keep it in.”

We reached the top of the first drop, then…

“AAAAAAAIYEEEEE!”

A dissonant chorus of everyone screaming in a different key. I heard Yukiya’s voice fly up to an epic high note I’ve never heard him hit. Octavia and Aria’s screams harmonized together.

For some students like Luana, this was a thrill. “This takes me back to my days sailing stormy seas!” She said. Todd and Mark were howling like hyenas. Hikaru was calculating the amount of G-force, or whatever it’s called. Reisei was screaming some words nobody understood like “Acrimony!” Candy Pop yelled “YEAHH! PARTY TIME!”

Itsuka was cursing in 8 different languages. Juhong said something in Korean that I won’t dare translate.

As for me, I was holding on tight to Mizore, while Rhona tried to keep me in place. Flurry’s huge rabbit ears were flapping in my face.

Then we hit the loop part of the roller coaster.

I felt my soul leave my body.

Shimo’s soul left his body too, and his lunch was threatening to follow. Melody was pleading for him to not spew. She even offered him her expensive new tote bag in case he had to.

Candy Pop was laughing like a maniac. Lanyue was weeping. Octavia and Aria harmonized one octave higher. Reisei went full theatrical mode and said “Quoth the Raven, NEVERMORE.”

Then the coaster came to an abrupt stop.

“WOO! Let’s do it again!” Todd and Mark cheered. This was just a normal Tuesday for them, apparently.

“NO.” Everyone else said in impeccable unison.

A massive ship was in the distance. It looked more like a floating hotel building.

“Yar! It’s the S.S. Imagination!” Luana said. “I remember the days where it was just a scrawny little pirate ship…”

“We’re going to the Watercolor Islands in a reskinned pirate ship?” Shimo groaned.

“Oh, but the S.S. Imagination is a MAGICAL reskinned pirate ship that runs on fun and whimsy!” Ms. Riddle said.

“…If I die of scurvy, tell Candy Pop I secretly enjoy her parties.” Shimo murmured to nobody in particular.

“No need! I heard you!” Candy bounced. “Whee!”

Shimo put his palm to his face.

(Note: More than 200 characters are on this trip. Even lots of animals. Crystal is a human in this story. The sick kids are also healthy today. This is based on dreams I have at night.)

(The Captain of the S.S. Imagination is Luana’s crazy dad, Captain Greenbeard.)

Coming up next:

Dinner on the ship. Then Luana causes chaos at the spa. She does a cannonball dive into the hot tub. She is ticklish during massages and laughs like a hyena the whole time. Then she gets into a fight with Saga and starts throwing the hot stones. She gets banned from the spa.
