Children, children

Summary:

A six year old Gwen gets lost in the plaid palace and accidentally finds Frederick's room

Chapter 1: The meeting

Chapter Text

Gwen couldn't believe parties were so boring! When Daddy had said they'd be going to a party waaaayyyy far away in Plaid, she'd been super excited, but it was all just adults dancing and looking sad.

So, she did what any self respecting six year old would do in this situation. She went to the kitchen to make cookies!

The kitchen

Somewhere

This castle was way bigger then hers

...

Which way was the ballroom again?

Gwen instantly panicked. She ran around opening every door crying. Laundry room bathroom weird weapon room-

Gwen opened another door, but there was a boy inside. He was wearing a green sweater and some uncomfy looking boots, and he was laying in a bed reading a book, which she figured was hard since he seemed like he could barely lift his head.

She rushed to his bedside, trying to get a look at the pages. It was one of those big books, the ones that didn't have any pictures except for the little drawings in the sides of the pages. The boy looked back over at her.

"..."

"Are you a witch"

"No." She didn't think so at least.

"Okay" the boy hesitated a moment

"...what's your name then?"

"I'm Gwen!"

"Frederick."

Gwen looked back at Frederick. He looked away from her timidly. He kind of reminded her of the spiders she sometimes found making webs around her bed.

He wasn't saying anything, so Gwen took initiative.

"What are you reading?"

"Fantastic Mister Fox. It about a fox who steals chicken." That made Gwen a bit sad

"Stealing isn't nice."

"Yeah but, but the farmers are mean. They deserve it."

Frederick talked for a long time. He seemed really excited, but her dad might get worried.

"I should probably go back to the ballroom now-"

As she tried to get up, she felt a tiny hand grab weakly onto her wrist. Gwen looked back and saw the Frederick had gotten up and grabbed her. He looked back at her and let go. Clenching his hand into a fist in the blanket.

Gwen just tilted her head. "You can come with me if you want." That only seemed to make the boy more upset.

"I'm not allowed in the ballroom. I'm.. sick"

"Oh! Is that why you have that tube in your arm?"

Frederick buried his face in the hand he wasn't using to support himself. He seemed really upset.

"Hmmm.. okay I have an idea. Hold on." Gwen stumbled her way out of the room. It wasn't that hard to find her way back to Daddy now that everything wasn't blurry from crying.

Frederick was laying down again by the time Gwen got back. He weakly raised his head at hearing her little footsteps and smiled. "You.. came back?"

"M hm!" Gwendolyn jumped on to his bed, which Frederick seemed completely bamboozled by, and took out a coloring book and some crayons from a bag Daddy had given her. "Ta da! Now I can spend time in here and not get super bored!"

Gwen colored for a while. She liked listening to Frederick talk about books.

She only realized how long she had been coloring until she felt a sharp tug on her shoulder, and then she was lifted into the air. Daddy was pulling her away from Frederick looking offended.

When they got home her dad kept telling her all these things about how boys were evil and wolves and stuff. She didn't really believe him.
