You'd have to stop the world just to stop the feeling

Summary:

The Buttercups go to a pride parade!

Notes:

set during the events of all the parts of the puzzle!

Work Text:

They all saw the poster at the same time.

The trio was walking back to their hotel for the night, having just eaten at a cozy little restaurant, when a colourful poster caught their attention;

Danville’s first ever Pride Parade!

Come together to march for equality and celebrate our existence!

Everyone is welcome :)

The date of tomorrow stood on the bottom of their poster. Scar glanced at the other two. “We do have a little time in the afternoon tomorrow. What do you say?”

“Well, I’ve never been to a pride parade before,” Grian said, smiling, “so I’d love to go.”

Mumbo nodded in agreement.

The next day after some fun morning activities and a quick lunch they came back to their hotel room to change, with the goal to ‘wear the gayest fit they possibly could’.

They returned in their hippie-like clothes (the ones they were wearing when they created the buttercups), tie-dye rainbow shirts clashing with brightly coloured bandanas. Mumbo was wearing the pink heart-shaped sunglasses he bought earlier that day, grinning with a red blush dusting his cheeks (he had forgotten his sunscreen and it hurt to touch his face, but it was all worth it).

When the trio arrived, the parade hadn’t started yet, but the area was already bustling with people of all ages. There were stands and booths dotted around the plaza selling all sorts of pins and merch and flags. Mumbo gravitated towards a stand with a bunch of pamphlets laid out on the picnic blanket-cladded table, the other two following. The punk looking person behind the stand smiled as Mumbo looked at the aro-ace pamphlet for a tad too long to just be passing curiosity.

They joined the parade half an hour late with smiles on their faces and a bit less money in their pockets. Mumbo had stuffed a bunch of leaflets in the tote bag that Grian brought along, who was now sporting a rainbow flag as a cape. Scar was wearing a flower crown in pink, purple and blue colours that kept flying off in the breeze. There was laughter, music, and every colour under the sun to be seen. They danced and sang along off-key when Chappell Roan’s Good Luck, Babe came on. When they reach the end of the parade, Scar’s legs ached, Grian was now also sporting a sunburn, and Mumbo thinks this is the happiest he’s ever been.
