Summary:

When Percy and Leo end up in the same highschool after Apollo's punishment, thanks to some favours and strings that were pulled, the two end up joining theatre in need of extracurricular points, what they don't know is that a theatrical show might be what they need to realise what hasn't been spoken outloud

 

Aka Percy and Leo in theatre club doing Epic, Percy as odysseus and Leo as Penelope, will they be able to pull off this show without any more problems from their demigod lives? Are they going to discover that maybe their love life really is as interesting as Aphrodite promised?

Notes:

If you don't like Annabeth bashing or Calypso bashing leave please, this is going to be a Percy/Leo fic

Leo is trans ftm that's why he got the past of Penelope, because of his vocals, which is another struggle they will all go through as he hasn't told anyone outside of Piper that he is trans

I don't know how often I'll actually write I'm sorry this was a random idea taken inspo from another fic I read I don't remember the name right now sorry

Chapter 1: The auditions, Percy pov

Hello, I'm Percy Jackson, but if you are reading this than you probably already know that, you might be wondering how did me and Leo get into this situation? In a school theatre trying for the casting of a musical, well that's easy!

 

"Mr Jackson, Mr Valdez, thank you for coming to my office" me and Leo are looking at eachother while we sit on the seats of the office that smelt like some weird jungle place with all the plants in different coloured pots, both confused about why we were called in Mrs Jones office, who's Mrs Jones? Her name is Rosita Jones and she is the new principal of the school, a lovely woman with medium length brown hair and some scars on her arms and face, people whisper she was victim of a car crash and barely survived, her son? Harold Jones, one of the techies of the theatre club, me and Leo have a bet on if he is secretly a kid of Mr D or not, but regardless! I'm spacing out.
"I know this is sudden and I apologise for the disruption of your lessons but while the school can be understanding as possible for your. . .special cases revolving your absences, we need something to compensate" both me and Leo look at Mrs Jones confused, I thought that we were fine, Mrs Jones is clear sighted so we thought she'd understand?
"Boys calm down, you are not in any trouble, simply you'll have to make up with extracurricular credit points, which you can get with theatre club, they are having auditions tomorrow so go there and try out"

 

So yea this is how we are here today, minutes away for the auditions to start, me and Leo are just preparing for what's about to happen as we get called in the auditorium along with more students, I spot Rachel in the crew of techies along with the principal's son and my eyes scan the room, falling on the theatre teacher aka the one who'll hear us all sing and decide who gets roles and who is just a background.

 

The first to go is some kid with black and red hair that looks around Nico's age and after him more and more go until it's Leo's turn, holy hair balls if his voice isn't good while he sings, if I didn't know it's Leo I would have never believed it "You, Mr Valdez, are perfect for Penelope" . . .and that's something I didn't expect to say the least, but now that I think about it Leo always had a more feminine voice, so it makes sense- actually about Leo now that I notice he seems tense after that, maybe stage fright? No time to think about it though as I get called on the stage, giving a thumbs up to Leo trying to reassure him and I start singing

 

"These waves and tides have grown in strength and size" I start singing, feeling the vibrations in the music and just focusing on those, not on all the people in that room listening, probably ready to make fun of me and call me seaweed head
"Is it nature or divine, or a blessing in disguise?" It's never a blessing is what I learnt in all the quests but that's fine, this is fine, this is just a stupid musical

"Our home's in sight, This storm's our final fight" I look at the crowd, no one really talking, not even a peep can be heard, maybe I shouldn't have done this, fuck Percy no it's okay, focus.
"There's no time to die" how many times has he and the other campers come close to death? Too many..
"Comrades! Brace for a storm!" As I sing the last line everyone starts clapping, almost like they were able to move out of hypnosis again
"We found our Odysseus! The official casting list will come out in a few days but Mr Jackson, Mr Valdez, you both were perfect!" The teacher, Mr Bob a depressed looking middle aged man that smells like failed dreams and holy moly says to everyone, finally this is over and we can go back to camp, after this I don't think I can take looking at any of them in the eyes anymore, better hope Rachel doesn't tell camp.

Chapter 2: The auditions, Leo's pov

Summary:

The same casting chapter but from Leo's pov

Today might be the worst day of my life. Why am I starting like this? Let's start from the top, HELLO LADIES GAYS AND AUTISTIC BAES IT'S YOUR FAVOURITE BAD BOY SUPREME LEO VALDEZ! And I am forced to do a theatre play on the Odyssey apparently! This is why I dropped out of school :D

 

You see I was in math class listening to teacher Vincent explain something about complex algebra and a light brown haired dude with a red streak was talking to a ginger haired curly ahh person with vitiligo about something that seems like some plans for a cool ass project I want to see now- when the intercom went off
"Mr Valdez, Mr Jackson, report to the office, I repeat Mr Valdez, Mr Jackson, report to the office" . . .why? I don't remember doing a prank since the ketchup on the bathroom mirrors- regardless I gather my things and walk out, tinkering with some small spring mechanism that shoots paper balls cause I'm cool like that and I arrive in front of the office where I find Percy sitting on one of the chairs in the waiting room, I wave at him and sit down as well, still tinkering and zoning out until I feel a tap on my shoulder, Percy calling me to get inside the office.

 

"Mr Jackson, Mr Valdez, thank you for coming to my office" of course principal Rosita :D after all you called us here :) anyways! Focus Leo on what she is saying you are not Percy who explains that- he probably does? Seems like the type to do it, he is pretty smart too, street smart but still smart but that just means I'll win my bet!- Not again Leo FOCUS!!

"Boys calm down, you are not in any trouble, simply you'll have to make up with extracurricular credit points, which you can get with theatre club, they are having auditions tomorrow so go there and try out" oh. That's better than summer school! :D I happily agree to this because like I'd rather do this than summer school okay?? Can you blame a man???

 

Anddd here is me and Percy just waiting, and this is when the realisation is hitting me and why did I agree to this? Would they give me the credit if I'm a techie with Rachel? Because I just now realised how I cannot make my voice more masculine with singing AND THIS IS A MUSICAL! I probably look crazy right now ahah just laugh Leo just laugh- and nope it's my turn fuuuuun. . .fine whatever I probably suck at it anyways and get given a background character part, Leo it's fine do it for the credit plus the school sees you as a man even if you get a fem role you can always act like it's just cross dressing ahah focus get on stage Leo and just sing

 

"He will chase you high and low" yea like the monsters on all our quests-
"So find a place he'd never go" I know a place where no one will go, the bunker :)
"The one way you'll get home, is sailing where he is scared to roam! Oh" of course it is, that's very logical after all if someone is chasing you then you go somewhere the one chasing is scared to go cause they'll stop chasing but they could still get there in other ways actually so maybe not that good of an idea? FOCUS LEO VALDEZ!
"It's through the lair of Scylla" eheh Scylla, such a funny name really for a monster! I think it's the one that Circe magiked into a monster for loving the same man? Should ask Caly later, oh I miss my girlfriend
"This is your only way home, the lair of Scylla" I mean technically it's not because you could take other ways and get home because knowing the gods they'll wait for when you are literally at the coast

 

I take a deep breath after singing and look at Bob "You, Mr Valdez, are perfect for Penelope" . . .fuck.
No no no! I didn't want this of course I get a female part! I should have stayed out of this school..no Leo stop people don't know! They will think it's just cross dressing! And you can always lie..yes yes lie that's good just tell you got singing training- no that's stupid you were literally in foster care and..that place- regardless I'll think about it later I need off this stage.
I get off the stage passing Percy and I pull out a pen and start to disassemble and reassemble it as I watch Percy, he seems unsure but once he starts singing it's like the room fills with honey, his voice sounds like the waves of the ocean which is very cool because they are many times used to relax people so maybe he is like a siren?- no Leo that's stupid it's just Percy he probably just sings well that's it. . .has he always looked so full of emotions?- LEO NO.

 

After Percy finished singing I stand up to clap for him and the room is full of people cheering and Bob speaks up in his very depressed voice- he really needs to cheer up he looks like he is serving a punishment here
"We found our Odysseus! The official casting list will come out in a few days but Mr Jackson, Mr Valdez, you both were perfect!" I grin at that because at least it means I know someone in this play, hopefully it's a different role though..

Chapter 3: After auditions, Leo's pov

Summary:

Leo gets back to camp after the auditions, a week after the cast comes outs

Notes:

I'm sorry that this is short but if I write long I tend to lose interest and never actually write, also they'll meet the rest of the cast after fully, gonna do Percy's pov of this when my brain isn't in ow

Me and Percy catch the metro after the school day ends and we head to camp, me playing with some things I found in my pockets making a super cool stick bug, oh maybe I could make robot bugs that attack monsters! I'll see that later- anyways we arrive to the stop and get off together, Percy talking to me about some marine fun facts which are very cool and we cross the border, parting ways- look I do want to hang out with him don't get me wrong he is a cool guy, pretty too- anyways the problem is that his girlfriend doesn't like me because who knows why honestly! I'd say I'm a very lovely dude and all the ladies and men love me but whatever, she is a bit of a stuck up anyways- I see my lovely Calypso! I'll go to her >:D

 

"Hi Caly! I'm back! Did you miss me?" I'm excited and hug her, I really missed her today and plus she called me her boyfriend this morning! :D
"Yes yes I missed you gods on Olympus are you always this clingy?" Oh..guess I'll stop hugging her..stupid Leo why didn't you think? You never think Leo this is why you are a fuck up.. whatever what's done is done
"And now you are going silent on me again, what did I do to deserve such a worthless person like you, whatever I'm going to go shopping anyways bye bye" she waves away and I look down, just walking away to the cabin where I find Piper there stealing MY Takis! >:(
"Pipes! How many times did I tell you not to steal my Takis!! Now move over it's makeover time!"

 

It's a week after the auditions and now me and Percy are waiting for the metro to GO FASTER!! Because the cast list comes out today and I'm anxious honestly cause what if we didn't make it? what if it was all useless and we'll be expelled?? Stop no you are not getting expelled over a play! Oh the stop, let's go!
"You think we got the parts we were told we'd get?" Percy asks me in his tone that I've learned is when he is anxious and like, why you anxious you pretty man you literally were like a siren with your voice?? "I'm sure you did, that's for sure! You were like a siren grabbing everyone's attention!" I mean it's true what do you want? I'm just being honest!
We get in school and immediately go to the bulletin board where the casting paper is there and-
"WE ARE IN!" I yell from excitement as I see our names, sure I'd prefer a masc role but at least we aren't out! Percy is Odysseus and I'm Penelope!!
