"Well seems like you know a lot about here, mind telling me just who exactly are you", the man remarked looking at you with untrustworthy eyes.
'Right.....'
"I could say the same thing about you blondie. You're definitely not from around here and with all those fancy kicks and shots you were giving out there, I can for sure say that you're no normal traveler.", you bickered back defensively while giving him the same look back.
Running away and getting chased by infected villagers was tiring enough and now having this stranger demand information from you was your breaking point. You kept your glare at him as you both didn't break eye contact.
He broke the eye contact as there was a hint of amusement in his eyes. He huffed a short laugh, dry and humorless. "You're a feisty one huh? Very well then 'Princess', I'm Leon Kennedy and I'm an agent for the U.S government. I was sent here on a mission to find someone."
You were left speechless after hearing all of that. Sure he seemed skilled and everything but to be a government agent was beyond your comprehension.
'Wait a minute did he just call me princess??!'
Leon interrupted your thoughts as he spoke up again. "Mind telling me what exactly you're doing here?". You looked down at the ground clenching your knife with much force as you remembered everything that you've been through in this damn nightmare. Leon took notice of your demeanor and gave you a questioning look.
"My name is Y/N, I-I lived in this village before everything happened.", you stated with a hint of sadness in your voice. You blinked away tears that were threatening to come out.
"This village was ordinary and focused on meat and agriculture, but after this person that claimed to be a 'lord' arrived, everything went downhill. He made this disgusting cult and everyone I knew and loved turned into these things called "Ganados" and completely changed."
"How come you're not like the rest of your village?", asked Leon. You looked back him and stared into his blue eyes, and for once you noticed how they were full of hurt and anger.
'He's no ordinary person, he's been through a lot'
You moved your gaze away from his eyes and looked around the village that used to be your home. "I've been rejecting their cult and their "new beliefs", they kept me locked up in a church near up the hill", you said. This whole time Leon never took his eyes off you, taking in all the information you were saying. "But earlier today they seemed distracted about something and that's when I took the chance to escape and yeah that's how I ended up here", you finished with a shrug looking back at Leon.
"Wow, that's quite a lot", he said with a blank expression.
There was silence for a few seconds between the both of you until a beeping sound broke it. Leon reached out for his ear, "Hunnigan?". You turned giving him a questioning look.
'Who is he talking to? Has all these Ganados left him insane?'
He noticed your expression and lifted his hand, probably indicating to give him a moment.
As Leon was doing his thing, you took your chance to actually get a good look at him. All that running and fighting didn't really give you time to take in his appearance.
He has a youthful but hardened face with sharp features and a stoic expression. His hair was medium length and slightly parted to a side, it would cover his eye sometimes. It was a natural ash blonde color. As for his clothes, he had a brown leather jacket with a black undershirt. There were black fingerless gloves on his hands that gave him a ready-for-combat look. He had black tactical pants with holsters on his tights and a utility belt around his waist. And to finish off his outfit he wore heavy duty combat boots that were ideal for a mission like his. You raised your brows at him, giving a small chuckle.
'He's over here on a rescue mission yet he came with such an iconic look'
"Windmill, copy that", he said and it interrupted your thoughts. He moved his hand away from his ear and gave a huge sigh as he turned to look at you, he looked like he was deep in thought.
"Do you by chance know where there's a lake near by?".
"Uhh- do you mean the one that's near after passing the windmill from over there up north?", you pointed towards the direction of the lake, with Leon following with his eyes. "First you're going have to pass through a farm".
"I guess that's my next location", he mumbled. You pursed your lips together not sure of what was going to happen next.
Was he going to just leave you here? Maybe that was for the better. After all, he was going to journey more into the village while you were trying to get away from it. That thought alone made you nauseous, you weren't sure if you'll make it out of here alive. So far you were lucky cause you had Leon by your side but if you continued on your own you wouldn't have the same luck.
You thought about the person that he was assigned to rescue. You felt bad about leaving when there was someone who needed help. This whole time that you were locked up, guilt has been consuming you about being the only one left who hadn't turned. You weren't able to do anything for everyone in the village and that made it unfair. Your heart was twisted and you tried to calm down your feelings.
"If you're going on ahead, I want to go with you!", the words spilled out before you even had a chance to think about it.
He glanced at you with an unreadable look and a raised brow but you looked at him with determination nonetheless.
With courage you spoke, "I want to help you save this person, I wasn't able to do anything for the people I knew when all this chaos erupted so if there's a chance that I can help save someone ill take it! Besides you need someone who knows their way around here right? I know this place like the back of my hand, porfavor! (Please), you begged in the end.
'Oh great I look like a desperate ass person! Estupida! (Stupid).
His expression was still blank but it made you think that he was unsure.
'Why are you so hard to read? Just what is going on with that head of yours?'
"Look I know I'm not suitable for something like your mission, but I've lost all of the people I once knew and loved to this horrible cult. If there's an opportunity for me to help at least one person, then I'll take it even if it costs my life! I've got nothing to lose, if I try to leave this place I won't make it far so I'll rather take that risk by saving someone other than myself."
Leon looked away for a second with a huge sigh. You were about to give up until you noticed him handing you something. You looked down to his hand and saw the handgun he was trying to give you.
"Do you know how to use this?", he asked. You looked at the black weapon and gave Leon a disoriented look. "Can I just stick to my kitchen knife instead?", you answered. He then gave you a 'are you serious?' look. You gave him a casual shrug and he put back the extra handgun in his utility belt while shaking his head.
"I don't want to accidentally shot you instead of the Ganados right?", you expressed with a small smile trying to lighten up the mood. He only gave you a short nod before speaking up, "Let's look around all these houses and see if there's anything we can find, you might also want to find a new knife, that one is on life support" he gestured towards your knife and left to explore the village.
You stared at his broad back before you made your way to the closest house. You looked around to see if there was anything useful. After a bit of exploring you found some pesetas and a new kitchen knife for you to use. As you were about to walk out to your eyes caught a box of ammo near a barrel.
'These would be useful for Leon'

After a few minutes of looking around, you made your way towards the center of the village and saw Leon there already waiting for you. He was busy looking at his handgun and shotgun but looked up when he sensed your presence.
"Here I found these, though they would be helpful for you", you handed over all the ammunition you were able to find. He gave you a thankful nod and put it away in his gear pockets. "Ready to go?", he suddenly spoke up. You gave the village one last look before you turned back to Leon. "Yep, I even found myself a new knife so I think im good to go".
"Well then princess, lead the way", his lips lifted to almost a smirk and stepped aside to let you go ahead first. "Right let's go!". You tried your best to sound determined but deep down you felt scared.
