When it finally fell silent, it turned to face them, and Meg could see the hair plastered to its forehead with sweat, and the silent tears dripping down its cheeks. Foam dribbled from the sides of its open mouth as it panted, and again she heard its voice call out.
“Ash…ley…” It struggled to say, “Get…a…way…from…me…”
Its eyes shut tight, frown tight as it put its hands to its head, groaning and stumbling through each jolted step. Meg could see his eyes in that moment, saw the beautiful blue being consumed by a blood-soaked red while her own widened in fear.

Ada and Leon raid the village, unknowingly working together, moreso on Leon's part. Caught in between the duo's campaign is a resident and up-and-coming student researcher. We follow this person and the demons of their recent past that led to their solitude.
Seeing the man for the first time, she can't help but hope to survive. But she knew, inside, she would give up her life for this man's mission.
She's young, intelligent, why would she throw her life away for a mission not related to someone like her? Caught in the crossfire?
Simple.
She was never going to be cured.
It just wasn't possible, but maybe, for Leon and the girl Ashley, they could make it to safety.
Then, she can finally die with the regret overshadowed by the fact she helped the man she grew to love and, quite possibly, the world. -

The jab of the needle caused Leon to cry out, his body reflexively letting go of the man beneath him, giving Luis a chance to empty the syringe into his bloodstream. Immediately, the plaga responded just as the scientist had hoped it would, and Leon doubled over, screaming in agony.
“Now be a good boy, and shut your fucking mouth,” Luis rasped, rubbing his sore neck as he rolled over to his knees, watching Leon thrash on the ground in agony.
“You...bitch...” Leon wheezed, his body tense from the pain as the plaga dug its claws into his heart, forced its way up his spinal cord, and latched itself to his neurological system. And then, Leon’s arms dropped to his side, and he went silent.
