Chapter Text
The next few days were fairly uneventful for Oscar, he’s managed to keep himself busy, cleaning around his apartment, laundry, the kind of mundane things that kept his mind quiet. He’d done everything, scrubbed the bathroom floors clean, dusted every inch of his apartment and cleaned every window until he was sure he could see his own reflection in it. If his home didn’t look like a stage home before it definitely did now, nothing was out of place and for the first time in days Oscar felt like he could breathe properly. Oscar had gone thru the mental checklist he’d given himself, the last thing being grocery shopping, given the state of his empty fridge he knew he couldn’t afford to put it off for another day. Shoes, keys, headphones, wallet, Oscar gave himself one final look over before leaving, a white t-shirt and black shorts, nothing fancy but he wouldn’t die from complete embarrassment if he saw some photos of himself online doing his weekly grocery shopping.
Oscar made his way down to the lobby, giving the doorman a polite smile before heading to the busy streets of Monaco. Luckily for him the grocery store was just a few blocks away, the weather was nice, sunny with a breeze, no need to take a car Oscar thought to himself.
The store was quiet, as quiet it can be. Oscar mindlessly filling his basket while he hoped his headphones would be enough of a signal for people to leave him alone. Oscar made his way thru the aisles, eggs, milk, bread, fruit and vegetables, a few microwave meals for when he decided to be lazy. Oscar caught himself in the dessert section for longer than he’d like to admit, he was a pretty strong willed person when it came to his diet, but even he had his weakness and that weakness has always been his sweet tooth. He stood frozen, eyeing the options in front of him, eyes hovering between the fresh eclairs or the crème brûlée behind the counter. “You don’t want any of these.” the voice was faint behind Oscar’s loud music but he could still catch that voice from anywhere, a soft Charles Leclerc behind him, wavy haired, and basically drowning in his white sweater that was without a doubt too big for him, it made Oscars skin crawl. “What?” was all he managed to get out, a bit quipped but that didn’t seem to bother Charles by the chuckle that followed. “If you want something sweet, you should go to the bakery next door. Not saying these aren’t good but if you want to treat yourself, you should get the real deal” that earns a hum in acknowledgement from Oscar, his hands still hovering over the desserts. “Do they have eclairs.. at that bakery?” The smile he’d earned from Charles make his chest hurt, he was too nice and that was something Oscar didn’t know what to do with. Charles made a quick look at his watch, “They close in about 10 minutes but I’m sure I could snag a few of them for you” Oscar almost gave himself whiplash from how fast he turned his head. “You don’t have to do that Charles, I can just buy-“ but before he could finish Charles was already waving him off. “Don’t be ridiculous, you’re gonna go check out and take your groceries home. I’m gonna go to the bakery and pick up some desserts and if you really want them then you‘ll just have to come to my flat and get them” he shot him a wink and before Oscar could argue Charles was gone, his own basket of food abandoned by his feet.
Oscar did exactly what Charles told him too, he wasn’t quite sure why either, he checked out with a lovely cashier, made polite conversation, smiled when he needed too and made his way back home. He took his time putting away his groceries, putting everything in it’s correct spot. there’s no way Charles was serious was he? the thoughts racing thru his head before he lands one that stops him in his tracks what if Max is there? and oh god Oscar really didn’t wanna see Max, not after that blow up he had last weekend. He didn’t even know where Charles lived, Oscar landed on the couch with a huff before pulling out his phone, greeted by a little +1 notification glowing bright on his home screen Charles. It was a simple message, a picture of the eclairs Charles had managed to pick up, and Oscars mouth was watering just seeing them on the screen, followed by an address and a few over the top emojis. Oscar let out a laugh before giving a thumbs up, he thought to himself for a minute, weighing the options, he really did want those eclairs, and it’s just Charles.. unless it wasn’t just Charles there. Before he could psych himself out he typed out a simple “Is Max there?” and send. It was blunt but Oscar didn’t really care how it would come across, in all fairness he really didn’t wanna see Max, not now at least and if he was there, he wasn’t going. The reply came in an instant, just a simple “Max is back in the Netherlands for a few days, it’ll be just you and I” and that made Oscars heart race for some reason. just you and I . Oscar didn’t hate the sound of that. He’d been alone these last few days and a quiet night with Charles didn’t sound like the worst way to spend his Wednesday night. He peeled himself off the couch after sending a quick “I’ll come”. Oscar made his was to the bathroom, a quick shower and some comfy clothes were top of his priority. He quickly got himself together before he could talk himself out of this. Oscar didn’t know why he was so nervous, he’d spoken to Charles many times but this was the first time he’d hung out with him one on one. Oscar gave himself one final look over before grabbing his keys and heading out.
Charles was settled on the couch when he heard the knock at the front door, it was almost comical how quickly he raced to the door. The door flung open and the smile on his face dropped when he caught a look at the man in front of him. Oscar was there, hair wet and cheeks still pink from the shower, he was wearing black athletic shorts that hit right at his mid-thigh and a baby blue hoodie that looked like it could swallow him hole if Oscar was any smaller. He looked small and that made Charles chest tighten. cute. was the last thing Charles thought to himself before opening the door to let the Australian in.
