Lex took a sip of his coffee from his Space Lex mug, his favorite brew but it was nothing compared to the sweet taste of victory. “Finally that thing is where it belongs, locked away where no one can reach it.”
“It’s a shame he was kinda cute.” Eve said and Lex struggled to remember why he had decided to make her his girlfriend.
“A puppy is cute, but both Superman and that dog are abominations. The world is better…” Lex’s voice trailed off as he spotted something in the distance outside the window, a blur of blue and red. Before he could walk over to get a closer look, the window exploded as the blur flew through it kicking up a massive cloud of dust in its destructive wake.
The dust cleared to reveal the symbol that had been vexing Lex for the past three years, however before he could question how Superman escaped a very not Superman voice reached his ears.
“Where’s Kal?”
Blinking to clear his vision further, Lex was greeted blonde locks where he expected black alongside a more feminine figure than he was used to. Lex wasn’t one to jump to conclusions (okay that’s a lie given he had concluded starting a war to kill Superman was a good idea), but given that Superman looked physically identical to a human male it was safe to guess this was a Kryptonian female, a Supergirl if you would.
“Oh my god, I love the super suit trench coat combo. You rock it girl!” Eve said as she quickly snapped a few pics of Supergirl before joining the LuthorCorp employees in running to safety.
“There’s two of you?” Lex’s question underlined by a hint of bubbling rage.
This clearly wasn’t the answer she wanted as the alien repeated “Where. Is. Kal!” Supergirl hovered closer to Lex he caught a whiff of her breath and, while it was hidden under some kind of alien favoring, he was met with the familiar scent of alcohol. With this knowledge a smart man would comply with any demands the unbelievable strong and invincible alien.
However, has much as he liked to claim otherwise, Lex wasn’t a smart man.
Intelligent yes, but not smart.
“Look you barbarians may be able to just barge in and demand things back on Krypton, but that isn’t going to work here.” Lex began to march towards Supergirl “I refuse to kneel before such-”
A quick zap of laser vision way too close to his feet for comfort sent Lex backpedaling as Supergirl’s still glowing eyes locked onto his very soul (that is if he had one.)
“Look mister… whatever your name is, I’m sure you think your pretty important but let me tell you something. I was out trying to get away from some stuff and expected to come back to see my dog and baby cousin ready to welcome me back. I just got back to find my dog and baby cousin missing and his fortress trashed.” Supergirl hovered closer as Lex tried to slowly back away, quickly realizing he had nowhere to run as he back touched the wall “And I may not know who you are, but I do recognize you from the security footage.” Supergirl was now practically on top of Lex as she watched the beads of sweat rolling down his forehead “So explain to me why I shouldn’t just throw you out of your stupidly tall building.”
That seemed to get through to Lex a bit as he began to realize that Supergirl wasn’t quite as noble as her cousin.
“Now you seem a bit…” Lex paused to catch his breath and greatly consider his next word “upset. But I’m sure me can resolve this- 1A!”
On command, Ultraman charged out of the adjacent hall towards Supergirl with a raised fist, a premature grin forming on Lex’s face as he waited to see Supergirl be pounded into the floor. However, Kara didn’t even need to take her eyes off Lex as she raised her fist and it collided with Ultraman’s face, instantly knocking him to the floor and into unconsciousness.
The pair both stared down at Ultraman’s limp body, Lex having stopped breathing as his mind was sent into reboot mode just as it had been when he first learned about Superman.
“So…” Kara turned back to Lex with a manic grin running across her face “skydiving time.”
An entire universe away, Clark’s blood boiled as the Kryptonite rays battered his body. He always hated feeling pain, it felt wrong and thinking about how his Ma, Pa, Lois and everything else on the planet had to deal with it made him sick in a way even the Kryptonite couldn’t manage. But right now, that was nothing compared to the knowledge that Lex, Ghurkos, and all their cronies were going unchecked while he was trapped in here.
He needed to escape, but that wouldn’t be easy.
Clark strained himself to glance up at the source of the Kryptonite, a Meta named Rex Mason and just as much a prisoner as Clark was. From what he could gather Lex had taken his son and used him to control Rex, add that as another reason Lex needed to be stopped, but it was also his best chance of getting out. If he could just convince Rex to stop the Kryptonite he could fly over there, get his son, and they could all get out of here.
Just as Clark got ready to try and convince Rex again, screaming echoed across the expanse and Clark’s eyes widened as it reached his ears “Oh no…”
“What? What’s happening?” Rex asked.
“Trouble…” just as Clark said this, a blur of blue and red flew past the pair before quickly doubling back to stop in front of their cell.
“Kal!” Kara floated in front of them as she held a squirming Lex by his leg “Don’t worry I’ll get you out of there.” she began to hover closer before Clark yelled.
“Don’t get any closer!” his throat screamed in pain but he ignored it and motioned to Rex “He’s making Kryptonite, it’s deadly to us.”
Kara glared at Rex, the Meta shaking under her gaze “Stop that!” she demanded, Clark’s presence clearly the only thing stopping her from doing something rash.
“I- I can’t. They have my son.” Kara glanced over at the guard holding Joey hostage, who now was starring at Lex for orders.
“Let the kid go or I use him” she shook Lex, eating another scream as he slipped a bit in her grasp, “to show what I’m going to do to you.”
“Don’t listen to her!” Lex desperately tried to regain control despite all logic saying he really shouldn’t “You work for me!” Fortunately for Lex (and unfortunately for everybody else) the guard quickly set Joey down and backed away.
“YOU’RE FIRED!”
Kara smashed into the cell, dropping Lex by the guard before she scooped up Joey “Don’t squirm too much I’m not used to holding fragile stuff.” As Kara hovered back over to Clark’s cell she could see that Rex had reverted his Kryptonite hand and was now looking over the still weakened Clark.
Spying Kara, Rex huddled back in fear “I- I stopped I swear. I don’t know why he’s still all sick looking.” Kara handed him Joey and helped her cousin to his feet.
“He needs the sun. Let’s get out of here.” Kara readied herself to fly before she remembered “Wait… is Krypto in here?”
Clark held back a growl as he remembered Lex showing him the virtual prison he had put the poor pup into “Yes.”
“Okay get my dog then get out of here.”
Rex held Joey over to Kara “I can’t carry anyone while I’m morphed, will you be able to carry him and Joey?”
“Sure. How hard could that be?”
Across the pocket universe, Lois Lane and Mr. Terrific stood taking in the slights of Lex’s mad genius behind them the portal back to the beach Luthor had Planetwatch set up at.
“I can’t believe it, Lex really did make a pocket universe.” Terrific’s surprise quickly shifted to annoyance as he shook his head in disgust “Do you know how stupid that is? The odds of messing up and consuming Earth with a black hole alone!”
“You can tell me later; we need to find Clark fast.” Lois looked over the edge of the portal device, the alien ground hundreds of feet below them and not very friendly looking with its harsh cubic shape and glowing orange river of who knows what. “So can your circles turn into rappelling gear or something.” after Terrific’s use of them a few moments ago she wouldn’t be surprised.
“Circles?” Terrific stared at Lois like she just said the stupid thing he’d ever heard, which she technically did, “They’re 3 dimensional, they’re spheres. And they can’t, not like we would want to rappel down there that anti-photon river down there would-” Terrific paused and before Lois could ask what was wrong she spotted it. Five figures, three humanoid, a baby, and a dog, all flying in from the distance towards them.
“What the hell…?”
“Make way!” as Kara yelled, Lois and Terrific quickly dove to back into the portal as her, Clark, Krypto, Joey, and Rex all flew out of just after them, crashing onto the sand. “Okay… guess I can’t carry a baby and a guy at the same time.” Kara said as everyone pulled themselves back up, except for Clark obviously as he was still recovering from the whole ‘rock that specifically kills him’ thing.
As Clark struggled to get up, Lois quickly made her way to his side “Superman! Are you alright?” she asked as she helped him up.
“I’m fine.” Clark glanced back at the portal and clenched his fists “There’s more people back in there we need to help.”
“We’ll worry about that in a moment.” Terrific said as he looked over Clark “You look like crap.”
“Thanks.” Clark said with a roll of the eyes as he limped out of the tent, sighing as he felt the sun’s rays beat down on him washing the pain of the Kryptonite away.
“Who’s your friend?” Lois gestured at Kara who was busy relentlessly rubbing Krypto’s belly.
“Oh this is my cousin Kara.” As her name was said, Kara paused her pampering of Krypto and glanced up to Lois and Clark.
“Oh you must be… Lana?” she asked as she walked up to the pair.
“Lois.” Clark corrected.
“Right that’s what I meant. Kal talks about you a bunch, nice to meet you.” Kara pulled Lois in a hug before she whispered “IfyoubreakhisheartI’llbreakyourspinebitch.”
“Huh?”
“Hmm?” Kara bloke off the hug with an expression of innocence painting her face.
“She’s joking.” Clark flashed a glare at Kara who just stuck her tongue out in response.
“And when were you planning on telling anyone about her?” Mr. Terrific asked with a glare.
“Uh well…” Clark rubbed the back of his head “She was meant to be like… an ace in the hole, you know. Just in case something like this…”
Terrific crossed his arms “Right. And you do know another Kryptonian secretly on Earth isn’t going to help with get rid of your ‘Alien Conquer’ image.”
Clark hung his head “Yeah…”
“Oh don’t worry,” Kara said dismissively “no one saw me.”
“You sure?”
“Absolutely.” Kara said with a wave of her hand as if to wave away Clark’s worries.
“Supergirl beats Lex. Superman’s Secret Cousin?” read the headline of the next day’s Daily Planet front page article, alongside a nice clear photo of Kara courtesy of Eve Teschmacher’s Twitter. Clark set the paper down on his desk to nurse his growing migraine when his phone rang, and figuring anything would be better than this right now he answered “Hello?”
“Okay dude the harem was one thing, but when where you planning on telling me you had a hot cousin?” Guy’s voice rang out, sounding particularly punchable right now “Also, asking for a friend, is she single?”
Clark hit the end call button, groaning as he left a crack in his phone screen, and laid his head in his hands muttering to himself.
“Why did she have to get home early?”
