The Monsters Gone

Summary:

“Endeavor is dead?!” Mina finally shouts

There was a resulting commotion as everyone got onto their phones to check the news. Endeavor's face was plastered across every news site in Japan and Shouto decidedly looked up at the ceiling. He didn't want to see his ugly face if he didn't have to. Once everyone had seen the news, even more chaos ensued as everyone panicked. And then, as if suddenly remembering Shouto was Endeavor's son, they all turned to look at him in horror.

“What?” Shouto asked “I was already informed.”

As if that was what everyone was concerned about.

Or

Dabi kills Endeavor and this is the consequence.

Notes:

Before we start, I would like to specify that the timeline is a bit after Enji was crowned as number 1. Though the specific canon is very loose.
Additonally, a lot of the canon Todoroki story is altered to fit my vision for this story while still keeping many major plot points.

Chapter 1: The Fall

Chapter Text

The city block was destroyed, fire roared across the rubble, and people were scurrying away from a fight between hero and villain. It was a villain attack. Nothing unusual. The walls of flames had grown to an exponential height and cut off any support from both hero and villain.

“Stand down villain!” Endeavor growled, his skin blistered under the heat of his enemy's quirk.

“I don't think I will,” Dabi said with a smile on his lips

The two met in the middle. Endeavor was brash as he tried to pummel the villain to the ground. But what Dabi lacked in physical strength, he made up for with sheer agility. He was able to effortlessly dance around Endeavor's fists and deliver a hard , flaming punch directly to his gut, causing Endeavor to stumble back. The sound of sizzling skin hit the air, and Endeavor coughed as the blue flames grew too much for his resistance to handle.

“You're getting sloppy hero .” Dabi goads, and Endeavor yells as he attacks Dabi again. His punches were fast but predictable. Dabi barely even had to try to avoid these desperate and angry attacks. Dabi started laughing as Endeavor got more and more frustrated.

“STOP THIS NONSENSE NOW VILLAIN!!” Endeavor yells

“Only when you stop breathing!” Dabi said his mouth curled widely. Straining the staples in his cheeks.

The two continued fighting, and they were slowing down as the fight prolonged. Endeavor was able to finally land a few heated punches on the villain, but Dabi was able to land 4 times as many. Endeavor's body was starting to break. His skin was blistered and burnt like it had never been before, and blood was bursting in bruises on his skin. His nose had been broken, and blood oozed from his nose. His opponent didn't fare much better, though almost all injury he had sustained had been self-inflicted. His ribs were more than likely broken, and yet Dabi kept going. The fight raged on as the two traded fists more. Endeavor began to loose energy and Dabi was pushing beyond all known limits.

Dabi landed one last punch, and Endeavor stumbled before his legs gave up from under him, and he fell. Hard. After all, the bigger you are the harder you fall . Dabi grinned triumphantly as he knelt over Endeavor.

“Dabi.” Endeavor bit out bitterly trying to get his body to cooperate with him.

“Hey now don't be rude. “ Dabi whispers gleefully “Call me Touya, after all, it's the name you and mom gave me.”

Endeavor’s eyes widened and he froze completely “My son is dead.”

“Why don't you go check that for yourself?” Dabi said sinisterly before calling his blue flames to his hands and placing it on either side of the pro’s head. He pushes the heat up, farther than he'd even pushed it before and Endeavor screams until he no longer has the head to do so. Dabi smiled manically as he laughed. His purpose finally completed.

He snuffed his flames and sat down on the ground. Watching Endeavor's dead body with manic glee. The last remnants of the hero were the red flames keeping them separated from the world. The heroes soon came and doused those last remnants. Dabi sat there completely calm as the hero's approached, it only took a moment for those that arrived to notice what had transpired.

“Boss!” Burnin yelled as she ran over to the corpse. Ignoring the villain basking in the moment. She was horrified to see him dead. She screamed as she fell to her knees at his side.

Other heroes reacted quickly by tackling the villain but Dabi made no move to run. He readily complied as cuffs were shoved onto his wrists and when he was roughly shoved into the back of a police van. He barely even reacted as they strapped him down like a dog. There was this disturbing look of calm on his face that unnerved the police officers

Endeavor's sidekicks stayed by his side as he was placed in a body bag and taken away to the morgue. Everyone's faces were grim as they all watched the number one hero's body be taken away. All that's left was rubble and the shell shocked expressions on the faces of the heroes and police officers.

“He had a family.” Kido whispered to a horrified Onima “We need to tell them what happened, before the media gets their hands on this.”

“I'll dispatch officers.” The police chief said, having arrived just moment ago. “To his wife and kids.”

“Thank you.” Kido said

“Its…the least I can do.”

Shouto was sitting in class taking notes as Yamada talked about the English language with an endless bout of enthusiasm. There was a knock on the door and Yamada pauses mid sentence. He walks over and opens the door, Aizawa was on the other side, looking more grave than usual. He said something to Mic and Mic looked directly at Shouto.

“Todoroki, Zawa needs to talk to ya.” Yamada says

Todoroki stood and walked over to the door. Aizawa gave him a soft look that was rare for him. “Let's go kid…”

The two entered an office where a lone police officer sat. He'd never seen them before but they looked like they'd rather be anywhere else. Their faces were shadowed and when they saw him their lips flattened into a line.

“Todoroki Shouto, please. Sit down.” The officer said

“Yes.” Shouto replied curtly as he sat down in the chair across from the officer “Why are you here?”

“Well…You see, around 30 minutes ago your father was killed in a fight with a villain.” The police officer said

“Oh…” Shouto thought. Could it possibly be true? That's too good to be true right? “I see.”

“I understand this must be horrible news to hear this morning.” The officer said

Shouto tilted his head as he thought it was rather good news. “May I ask who killed him?”

“...It was the villain known only as Dabi. Don't worry, he has been apprehended and sent straight to Tartarus.” The officer assures

Shouto was not worried. He didn't think the punishment fit the crime, after all Dabi has done quite the service killing his father. Shouto supposed others would not see it that way. He knows who Endeavor really is- was.  He beat Shouto to the ground regularly in the training room. He beat his mother until she broke. He beat and neglected his oldest brother until he killed himself. He ignored the very existence of his other two children.  Endeavor was no symbol of peace and did not deserve being crowned number 1. Not when he forced kids into the world to try and reach that goal. So really, Shouto considered asking if they'd offer Dabi community service instead of prison. Naturally, asking for a known murderer to get community service would be illogical and so he keeps this opinion to himself. The officer is giving him a look of pity, Shouto blinks at them slowly.

“Can I go back to class now?” Shouto said and the officer looks at Aizawa behind him uncertainly

“If you want to go back you can, but Todoroki…If you need some time to yourself or even want to be done for the day then we completely understand.” Aizawa answered as he walked over to rest a hand on Shouto's shoulder

“I would prefer to get back to the lesson, it is very important.” Shouto said

“Okay. But know if you ever need to step out or leave for the day then you have permission. And if you ever need to talk, I will always have time to talk to you.” Aizawa says

“Thank you sensei.” Shouo said

Shouto walked back to class and sat back down in his seat. Missing the dozen of eyes following him to his seat.

“Are you okay Todoroki?” Yayorouzu leaned over to asks quietly

“Yes I am quite all right. “ Shouto confirms

“Oh good, we were worried you had gotten into trouble.” Yayorouzu said

“I have received some news, I'm sure it'll  be public soon.” Shouto said

“What do you mean by that?” Yayorouzu said

“I'm sure you will know later.” Shouto assures

Class continued from there, Shouto using Yayorouzu's notes to catch up with the lesson. In all truth, Shouto already spoke and wrote fluent English. If he was forced to thank his father for anything, it would be the language lessons he made all his children take. He was a somewhat traditional man so he believed it was crucial for them to be well educated from early on. Shouto didn't have any problems with this class and yet he liked to keep up with the notes. It was mainly for retention of a specific lesson.

About 30 minutes later, Yamada is finishing up his presentation. That's when Ashido gasps with horror, and everyone turns to look at her. Her face is shell-shocked. Yamada is pretty easy going when it comes to phone usage as long as it's not actively disrupting, he does purse his lips lightly at Mina's interruption of his conclusion.

Fuyumi had a good start to her morning and even the children were excited about their new project! They were working away and she was floating around the room providing her assistance. The door opened and another teacher looked around before spotting her.

“Todoroki, they want you at the front office. I'll watch your class for you.”

Fuyumi sighs and fixed her glasses. What could they possibly want now? Her mood immediately sours and she sighs softly. “Okay, they're just working on their projects so they don't need any more instruction.”

The other teachers nods and Fuyumi leaves. The walk down to the front office was grueling as she tried to imagine why they wanted to see her. Was she in trouble for something? She hadn't broken any rules as far as she is concerned but someone might have found issue. A parent or something. When she arrived at the front office, the principal was there talking with a police officer. That didn't help her nerves any. She would know if she did something illegal right?

“Ah, Todoroki. This woman is here to talk to you.” The principal said before pointing towards his office “You can use my office, I'm needed in the gym anyway.”

“Follow me, Miss Todoroki,” The police officer said

They entered the principals office and the officer sits down on one of the chairs, gesturing at the one next to it. Fuyumi sits down and sets her hands in her lap.

“I apologize for bothering you so early in the morning, but I have some rather…bad news.” The officer says

“O…okay?” Fuyumi was getting really nervous now

“Your father, Endeavor, has been killed.” The officer said

“Oh.” Is that all? “I see.” Fuyumi was unsure how to feel. She felt a bit of grief because this man is her father but in the end her feelings were more to the side of being a bit relieved. Endeavor never did care much for her, even when she had to take up the mantle of caregiver, cook, and maid. She didn't feel a need to care much for him. She knows this man hurt her baby brother and now that he was gone she wouldn't have to bandage cuts and burns. She wouldn't have to cover up bruises. Shouto would be safe now. Safe from that man.

“I'm sorry for your loss.” The officer said

“Oh. Yes.” Fuyumi would call it more of a gain than a loss. “Thank you for telling me.”

“I just wish I didn't have to deliver it.” The officer admits

“I mean it, though, thank you.” Fuyumi said, and the officer nodded respectfully. “I should be getting back to my class now. “

“Take care okay.” The officer said

“I will.” Fuyumi said

Fuyumi was calm as she walked back to her class, the full weight of her father's death hitting her now that she was alone. She once believed they could mend their bonds and be a real family, but that dream had died with Touya. Well, at least it died for the most part. Now her father had been killed too and this grief was different.

When Touya had died it had crushed her. She felt like she couldn't breath and her heart constantly ached in her chest. She never thought she'd be able to move on and every so often the grief of his passing hits hard. This is not the case right now. She feels a bit numb and her heart was heavy. She'd be able to move on though and she knew it deep in her soul. She did not mourn the man that had been her father because unlike with Touya he had never been there. He stopped being her dad a long time ago. They had become strangers in their own home and Fuyumi had been fine with that. Maybe now that Endeavor is out of the picture, Natsuo will visit more. That would be nice. She hopes she and her brothers can have a family dinner soon. Without their recently deceased father.

She enters her classroom and watches as every student was in chaos. Quirks were shooting off everywhere and there was a lot of screaming as children threw pencils and erasers at each other.  The poor sub looked so frazzled. It had been at most 10 minutes and Fuyumi was so tired.

“Class.” She said simply and every student froze before scurrying to their seats and going back to their projects. She rolled her eyes at their antics and walked over to the poor teacher. “Sorry about them, they're a rowdy bunch."

“But you love us!” One of the kids shouts and there are rumbles of agreement

“I guess so.” Fuyumi said and the kids all giggled delightedly

Natsuo was sitting in his class and writing notes on the complex system of the body that the teacher was yapping about. Things were pretty normal, if not boring. He yawned widely because he had stayed up too late playing video games again. Someone entered the room and quietly spoke to the professor who then looked directly at Natsuo.

“There is someone who needs to speak with you Todoroki, I'll email you a detailed recap of my presentation later.” The professor said firmly

Natsuo shrugged and grabbed his things. He walked down the stairs and out of the room. Outside stood a police officer who looked rather nervous; he was young-looking and sweating bullets. Natsuo was more worried about the guy passing out than whatever he had done to get the police here. He hadn't even gotten blackout drunk in over 2 weeks!

“Todoroki Natsuo, hello.” The man said with a bow

“Hi?” Natsuo said

“I was- I- sent here to give you some news. Is there somewhere private we can talk?” The officer sputters

“My dorm is in the next building over.” Natsuo said

“That works.” The officer says

The two walked to the dorms and the officer looked even more nervous as time went on. Natsuo was really starting to wonder what exactly the news was. He wondered if maybe his father had a heart attack and died but that would be too hopeful of him. He'll just have to wait and see. They got to the dorms and took the world's most awkward elevator ride to his floor. He was really starting to wonder if the officer needed an inhaler or something. Natsuo got to his dorm and opens the door. His roommate was still in class thankfully so the dorm was empty. Natsuo flopped down on his couch and the officer took a seat on the arm chair across from him.

“Okay, speak.” Natsuo said calmly

“Well…You see. This morning your father had a run in with the villain Dabi and your father did not survive.”

“Wait…He was killed?” Natsuo could just barely keep the grin off his face

“Uh…yes.” The guy said

“I see.” This was fantastic news! His prayers had finally been answered. He wanted to scream and jump for joy. Of course, knowing that reaction would make him seem psychotic has him quietly smirking to himself behind his hand.

“I'm very sorry for your loss.” The officer said

“Oh. Yeah.” Natsuo said “Very sad. Well, you've delivered the message. Why don't you go ahead and get back to your station.”

“Of course, thank you for your time. “

The officer was out in record time and as soon as the door closed Natsuo couldn't help but grin. It's morbid to celebrate the death of his father but that piece of shit had it coming. He abused Touya to death. His best friend. His big brother. For a time, his real father. Touya had done his best for all of them despite the pressure. He was determined above all else to get Shouto out of the training room. Not because he wanted to be in it, but because he wanted Shouto out. Then, he died. Nothing was left of his big brother. His big brother whom was everything to him because Natsuo didn't have caring parents. He was practically forgotten at birth. Enji had taken it all away. Enji hurt his family in immeasurable ways and no one was going to stop him. He was too strong. Too influential. Untouchable.

Not anymore though! Natsuo wasn't even sure who this Dabi guy is but he is amazing! He delivered the killing blow! The final hurrah! Natsuo felt his cheeks start to burn from how much he was smiling.

Rot in hell Todoroki Enji!

Rei was enjoying a calm morning with some tea, the warmth pleasant in her hands. She had grown used to being confined in her small room. Still her eyes trained outside the window watching as if she could really see it. She missed her kids. They hadn't visited in a few days. They're busy of course, they have lives. Shouto still sends her letters and she treasures them all. She's very happy to have contact with him again. She's so grateful for his forgiveness.

There was a knock on the door and she perked up, though she was disappointed to see her main doctor walk in. There was a firm look of professionalism on her face that reminded Rei of the day she was told Touya had died. Her heart clutched at the memory and she carefully set her cup down to avoid dropping it. Her hands were shaking.

“Good morning Miss Todoroki.” Her doctor said “How are you this morning?”

“Fine I suppose.” Rei said “What happened?”

“I knew you'd be able to tell something was up.” The doctor sighed “Well…I'll tell it to you straight. Your husband Endeavor was killed in an encounter with a villain earlier this morning. An officer came to let us know before the media got a hold of the situation.”

“Oh.” Rei said, blinking “I see.”

Rei was not sure how to feel. This was the man who hurt her. Who hurt her precious babies. Who drove Touya to his death. But he was also her husband. Who gave her flowers. Who once cared about what she thought. That was a long time ago though, and now he's dead. Her lips curved upward lightly at the thought. She had always worried for her babies, especially Shouto. She couldn't protect them from him from here. She wasn't there to stop him like she had been when Shouto was 5. Now she could rest easier knowing he couldn't touch them again.

“I understand you have mixed emotions about your husband.” Her doctor said

“I suppose.” Rei said unable to hide her smile any longer.

If the doctor found her joy in the matter to be disturbing she didn't react outwardly. Instead she reached forward and took her hand. “Life is going to change very suddenly now, Miss Todoroki. Your husband was the one who kept you here, and now that he's dead we've been asked to clear you for release.”

“Release?” Rei whispered with wide eyes

“You have been here for over 10 years, you're doing very well. I'm sure you'd like to cite your relapses but all healing is non-linear. You are a very strong woman and I know you're ready.”

“Perhaps… I can be with my children again. If they'd let me.”

“I'm sure they'd love to have you Miss Todoroki.”

Rei smiled and looked down. She was nervous to be out of her box. What if she hurt Shouto again? No, she had healed and Enji wouldn't be around to remind her of the past. She just wishes that she could've been able to see Touya again.

What she wouldn't give to see her son.

Touya was tossed against the wall roughly. His head hitting the concrete. He was given no time to react before water sprayed him. The pressure of the water peeled at his skin and caused staples to rip out. He didn't mind, they were doing their due diligence to put him in their prison. They'd already booked him in his system. His fingerprints were practically useless due to the fact they were burned and he was certain his mugshot was a bit too smug. Now they were hosing him down. Black poured from his hair and he figured that was the dye pouring from his head. It was cheap and it had served its purpose. He was disoriented as the water stopped and he was shoved into a chair. A second later he watched with mild interest as white locks were shaved from his head. He didn't so much as react when the barber intentionally cut a bit too close to his head and nicked him. The guy was clearly displeased that his antics didn't garner a reaction out of Touya.

“We have orders to take him to the infirmary before we clothe him.” Someone says

“Come on then” The guard in charge of him declares

They pulled Touya to his feet and pushed him out the door. The guards pushed him forward into the hall where he started walking. He should've been ashamed to walk through the halls without anything to cover him. His naked skin still tingling from the harsh spray. He didn't care. Even as the guards snickered when they saw him and leered at him. There were no prisoners around to see him but there were cells. Locked boxes. He wondered which box they'd throw him in. Perhaps he’s audacious to think he'd get a box. A coffin suited him well enough. He was pushed into the infirmary, and the doctor there made a grand show of tearing out his staples and replacing them with stitches. It hurt but who was he to complain? He supposed they thought he'd try to use his medical fucking staples to escape or some bullshit. The doctor was thorough at least, tearing him apart and sewing him back together again. Every remaining nerve he had was on fire and pain echoed through his body. Touya was patient though. He's certain he could burst a couple stitches, after all he chose staples for a reason.  Once the doctor was done they shoved a jumpsuit and underwear at him. He pulled them on as requested. As soon as he was done they shoved him out of the infirmary and down the hall. He was complying with the movements and yet they seemed adamant to shove him around. Touya supposed he'd let them have their power fantasy. He didn't have a choice anyway. Nor did he give a shit.

They went down, and then even deeper till they were god knows how deep in the ground. He thought it to be quite nice of them to give him such a deep cell; they must've seen how dangerous he could be. His potential, anyway. He was locked in quirk-canceling cuffs, and he's fairly certain they’d injected him with quirk suppressants as well. Too bad Endeavor didn't see that same potential until the end. A tragedy really. He was shoved into a cell. It was bigger than he was expecting, though he was fairly certain they'd just kill him so the bar was quite low. The only thing he could see was a lone metal toilet in the corner. Of course that was until they slammed and locked the door. He was then in a pitch black room with nothing but his bare feet to ground him. He sat down against the wall calmly and felt a bit of gratitude that he was able to stretch his legs out and only touch the opposite wall when he extended his foot. Yes, quite nice of them to give him so much space in his cell.

Touya smiled because he had done it. He had finally killed Endeavor. That man’s blight on this world was corrected and Touya could finally rest easy. If this box was to become his grave then he was glad they gave him so much room to die. He hopes his siblings can be free now. His mother as well. He did it all for them. Everything he's done has always been for them. Killing their father was the one thing he knew could make their lives better. They do not know it was him. An oversight as he had meant to be more public with his identity, but the opportunity to kill him came, and who was he to reject such a lovely chance? He thinks it's for the best they don't know. He's going to die soon anyway.

Have a good life Todoroki's because now the monsters are gone.

Notes:

Hello, I hope you like my little story. I was lowkey possessed by it at work and I couldn't stop myself as the words just poured out. I have a plan for this story! I know, shocking. I am unsure when the next chapter will come out because I am terrible at juggling WIPs, and I was considering waiting, but if I don't post this, I will literally combust.

Oh, and if you need a visual aid for what Touya did to Enji. Imagine the scene where Enji uses blue flames to kill a nomu, now make Enji the nomu. Hope that helps.

Chapter 2: A Tragedy

Chapter Text

It was no surprise that a massive public funeral was held for Endeavor. The public had been very distressed seeing their recently elected Number 1 be killed so soon after gaining the title. So the Hero Public Safety Commission organized one. There were many prominent guests.

Hawks, the de facto number 1 hero was there. Dressed in a firmly pressed black suit, his wings down in the dumps as he seemed genuinely grieving Endeavor. All Might, the retired number 1 hero, was there in his small form. Dressed in a similar suit to Hawks. He was harder to read but still clearly upset too. Other pros are there in solidarity of losing one of their own. Citizens of Japan were gathered in a massive crowd all dressed in black. Even the Emperor had come to show his respect to the hero. Someone really should have told Endeavor's children to come though as not one of them had shown up.

“I can't believe he's gone.” Hawks said quietly

“It's hard to believe.’ All Might agreed, “Todoroki was always so strong, even in our youth.”

“I looked up to him so much as a kid…Even now I thought he was admirable. It's…It's hard to handle how I feel about it. I barely even knew the guy.”

“He's inspired many. Just as I have. Just as you will. This mantle falls onto you now Hawks. Use it wisely.” All Might said patting his shoulder

“Yeah I'll…try my best.” Hawks said

The speakers screeched to life as the microphone on the podium turned on. Then it quieted. At the podium was the commission president. Dressed in black and the perfect picture looks of woe on her face. She looked out at the crowd with mock sympathy in her eyes.

“Thank you everyone for coming, I know it's been a very uncertain time. With so many changes to the rankings and the rise of villains in our country. Only now to lose our nation's top hero.” The president stated “Todorokit Enji was an honorabme man. As Endeavor he has done decades of service for our country and his sheer dedication has made Japan a much safer place. We cannot repay him enough for all he's done. He was a man of honor. A man of the people. A family man. We grieve his loss and we are angry that he was taken away from us. Rest assured Justice has been served.”

The crowd was raptured and the heroes on stage next to the president puffed out their chest with pride. The spots for his three children were still damningly empty. No one chose to acknowledge it. Perhaps they were busy mourning their father and didn't have the energy to come to such a big event.

“As we move forward, we will remember all that he has done and the heroism he has shown. As such we will be erecting a statue in this very square to honor him and remind us and all future generations of the safety and goodness he has given to Japan. We will not let death stop his memory. We will now let death stop his work. And we will not let the villains win!!” There were cheers from the crowd as she finished her declaration. They were muted though as the crowd was still greatly saddened.

“My heart burns for those that will be lost without Endeavor here to protect them. Things will not be easy without him but be rest assured that we at the commission are doing everything in our power to keep people safe. We will not yield to these villains and we will stand firm in the face of this evil.”

The vast majority of the crowd seemed comforted by this sentiment. Some seemed skittish as they had long two number one heroes in only a few weeks. Hawks felt a need to rise to protect them all. He was the new number 1 and he will rise to the challenge. The other heroes around him share a similar sentiment. At least, the ones who have a heart for heroism.

There were many speeches about Endeavor from reputable people and the funeral was a rather long one. Hawks spoke of his childhood (the modified safe for public version) and how Endeavor was his inspiration. How he would live up to Endeavor’s legacy in his honor. All Might spoke of their rivalry and their times at UA. Burnin spoke about her boss with tears in her eyes. The Emperor was the last to speak and he was able to ease some doubt in the Japanese people. As well as present plenty of honors to the dead man.

It was as they were cleaning up everything and stacking the chairs that finally the organizers noticed the three Todoroki children had not shown up at all. Those poor kids must be in so much grief. It's understandable that they wouldn't show up to a massive public event like that.

The usually quiet Todoroki Manor was shaking from the sound of the loud party music blasting from large speakers placed in the main living room of the house. There was confetti everywhere from the used party poppers littered around the room. On the coffee table were multiple bottles of very expensive sake that were found in the liquor cabinet. A few of which had already been emptied.

Natsuo Todoroki was on the couch absolutely sloshed. He had been the one who drank most of the sake as he had decided to take a shot every time they said the word “honor” at Endeavor's public funeral. It had been televised so thry watched in a watch party style. Though the party had been going for a few days now. Natsuo has a surprisingly high tolerance to alcohol, probably due to his past drinking experience. At the current moment he was finishing off a bottle. Once he finished he giggled delightedly as he set the bottle down. He reaches for another one but his hand gets slapped away by his sister.

“You've had enough.” Fuyumi says firmly

“Yumiiiii.” Natsuo complains

“Drink this.” She shoved a bottle of water into his hands

Natsuo shrugged and chugged down the water. Fuyumi sighs and looks over at her baby brother who was browsing on his phone. He had his usual blank look on his face but he looked more comfortable than usual. He was actually really relaxed which made her heart warm.

“How are you doing Shou?” She asks her baby brother

“Oh. I am quite well.” Shouto said “I was reading up on the villain Dabi.”

“The guy who killed dear old dad?” Natsuo asked gleefully

“Yes. I was curious about him.” Shouto said calmly “There isn't much really known about him other than his villain alias. No one was able to discover his real identity. He's been silent in the villain scene following him leaving the League of Villains.”

“Wait…He was in the League of Villains?” Natsuo asked

“Once. I messaged my classmate Bakugo to ask about it in detail.” Shouto explained

“The kid that got kidnapped by the League at your training camp?" Fuyumi inquired

“Yes. He told me that Dabi had arrived in the lair and when he saw they had kidnapped him, Dabi flew off the handle. He started yelling at Shigarki and the two got into a huge fight that ended in Kurogiri having to stop them from turning each other into dust. Dabi was greatly angered over them capturing a kid and told Shigarki that he was out of the group. This angered Shigarki who promised to dust him but before he got the chance Dabi blasted the entire base with flames. The league of villains were then in shambles as they all tried to get out of the burning building. Bakugo was able to make his escape thanks to the distraction. It was at that point the heroes arrived and you are probably familiar with what happened next.”

“Dannnnnng… that guy has better morals than Endeavor.” Natsuo slurred

“That's a low bar.” Fuyumi deadpanned

“Oooo right! It's a tripping hazard in hell!” Natsuo giggles “I hope Endeavor trips on it!”

“I think it would be entertaining to watch him trip.” Shouto agreed with his drunk brother who was still giggling at the mental image.

“Okay, so this Dabi guy clearly doesn't like children being hurt. Explains why he killed our father. “ Fuyumi said

“Yeah yeah! I love this guy!…” Natuso cheered “But wait how did he know about Endeavor?”

This caused the group to pause. Yeah, how did he know about Endeavor's abuse? Sure he could've just been aiming to kill the number 1 hero but there was a method to his crime that made it seem planned. Purposeful. Shouto tilted his head remembering how the police described his behavior after the murder. He was calm. Complacent. He was sitting in the ground simply watching Endeavor's corpse by the time they cleared the flames. It was not the actions of someone who aimed to kill for the sake of killing, it was someone who finally finished their plan and was basking in its completion. Dabi had killed Endeavor on purpose because he was an abuser. Dabi clearly despised all kinds of child abuse from his argument with the league. That didn't explain how he knew though. Only the Todoroki’s were privy to that knowledge. Though Shouto has shared pieces of it with Midoriya. Their mother has probably talked about it to her many doctors, perhaps Dabi heard it from one of them. It didn't make much sense but perhaps Dabi had heard about it, confirmed it for himself, and planned to murder their father. There was a feeling in his guy though. There's more to this that they aren't seeing and that starts with Dabi.

“I want to talk to him” Shouto said

“Wait! Yeah! We need to thank him!” Natsuo cheered “He's done us a favor!”

“I am quite curious to know about the man who killed our father.” Fuyumi said “Also Natsuo is right, it's only proper to thank him for doing what no one else would. “

“So what, we march into Tartarus and demand to see Dabi?” Natsuo said “They wouldn't be very open to that idea.”

“I am unsure how the prison system works, especially for somewhere as high security as Tartarus.” Shouto notes outloud

“Since he is the killer of our father they may be under the impression it would be a bad idea to let us meet. “ Fuyumi said

“Dats bullshit!” Natsuo declares loudly “They don't know shit!”

“We certainly can't go while Natsuo is drunk.” Fuyumi said exasperated

“Hey! I am not fucking drunk.” Natsuo said

“Yeah? Look at that clock and tell me what time it is?” Fuyumi points

Natsuo squinted at the clock for a full minute before shouting “I am not fucking drunk.”

“Yeah, you're done.” Fuyumi said gathering the remaining bottles of alcohol to place them back in their cabinet. One of which had the image of a witch printed on the label.

“Noooo, Bathilda!” Natsuo yells reaching after the bottles

“Who?” Shouto asked and Natuso didn't even answer as he slumped against the couch sadly.

“Ignore him, he’s drunk off his ass.” Fuyumi said

“It's a party! You're supposed to get sloshed at a party!” Natsuo complains loudly

“Maybe at your college.” Fuyumi mutters bitterly

“Haven't you had some to drink too?!” Natuso accused “Hypocrite!!”

“I had a glass.” Fuyumi said with an eyerolll “Drink this.” She shoved another water bottle in his face.

“Noooo, no water!” Natuso complains “I've already drank water!”

“This is not up for debate.” Fuyumi said

“No!” Natsuo bats the water bottle away and pouts at his older sister.

Fuyumo sighs deeply. “Fine, just know your hangover tomorrow is your own goddamn fault.”

Shouto thought it was nice to awe them bond so openly. He thought it was nice they were finally allowed in this space and they didn't have to worry about their father raging in to tell them off. As Natsuo and Fuyumi continued to bicker there was a ring of the door bell and they all looked towards the door. Shouto took the initiative to go and open the door.

On the other side a man in a suit stands, his suit is firmly pressed. Black with a white undershirt and a jack tie. He holds a briefcase in his hands and Shouto finally recognized him as one of their recently deceased fathers lawyers from his hero agency. Ito he believes is his name.

“Good evening, I am here to discuss your father's will.” The lawyer explained “Are your siblings home?”

“Ah yes. They are.” Shouto confirmed as he let the lawyer into the house. Shouto takes him to the source of the loud music and Fuyumi spots the lawyer. She walks around the couch to where Natsuo's phone is charging and stops the music. Natsuo is disturbed by the music being cut.

“Hey what gives?” Natsuo complains

“Hello, I'm Ito Riku. I'm one of your father's lawyers and I've come here to explain his will to all of you.”

“Oh joy, can't wait to get my 2 cents!” Natuso snarked and Fuyumi hits him upside the head “Owe Yumiiii.”

“Of course, I wish you had called ahead so we would've been more prepared for your arrival.” Fuyumi said

“I apologize. It was an oversight on my part. Things have been very hectic following the death of your father. Not that I'm blaming him.” The lawyer correct quickly

“Blame him all you want!” Natuso cheered and barely escaped Fuyumi smacking him upside the head.

“I can come back at a different time.” The lawyer says nervously

“No, don't worry about him. I'll explain it in better detail when he's…sober.” Fuyumi said

“Okay then.” The lawyer sets down his briefcase and sits down on the couch opposite the one Natsuo was still dramatically laying against.

“In this will I have 5 family members listed.”

“5?” Fuyumi mouthed to Shouto and he shrugs

“Is… Todoroki Touya here?” The man asked and dead silence hit the room. The semi-permanent grin slid off of Natsuo's face as it darkened significantly. Fuyumi bit her lip and Shouto merely blinked at the absurdity of asking such a question.

“How…how old is this will?” Fuyumi finally asks

“Ah well…uh.” The guy looks through his paperwork “It seems it was last updated 12 years ago. Endeavor was too prideful to even revise it. No matter how much we pestered him.”

“I see… Our brother Touya died 11 years ago. “ Fuyumi said and the guy froze

There was panic in his eyes until he was able to compose himself. “I apologize for this oversight.” He said gravely

“Why don't you go ahead and read us the will?” Natsuo grounds out. Now aggravated.

“Of course.” The doctor takes out a packet “This will is to be read upon the death of Todoroki Enji, known as the number 2 hero of Japan. To his wife, Todoroki Rei he leaves the Todoroki Estate as well as the entirety of his bank accounts. To…” The guy hesitated, “To his oldest son Todoroki Touya he leaves 1 million yen.” The guy swallows. “To his only daughter Todoroki Fuyumi, he leaves 1 million yen, as well as the entirety of the book collection in the Todoroki estate library. To his second son Todoroki Natsuo, he leaves 1 million yen. To his youngest son Todoroki Shouto he leaves 5 million yen and access to a trust fund made upon his birth, as well as the Endeavor agency property. “

“At least he pretended to care.” Natsuo said and Shouto was caught up on the whole Endeavor Agency property thing.

“I have a question, since Touya is dead what happens to these assets?” Fuyumi asks

“Uh, well. I supposed they would go to your mother.”

“She's in an asylum though.” Fuyumi said

“Actually, I do have news about that. You see they are clearing her for release.”

That sentence seemingly sobered Natsuo up. Shouto's mouth dropped and Fuyumi looked shocked for a moment before smiling softly. “Oh, that wonderful news.”

“We've been given so much this week alone.” Natsuo agreed

The lawyer looked at Natsuo confused. Considering the fact their father had been murdered a few days ago. Fuyumi sent Natsuo a look and Natsuo just smiled at her.

“Yes. We have received a lot of good news.” Shouto agreed

The lawyer looks concerned now, if not a bit disturbed. Fuyumi pitied the man because he doesn't really know a thing. He doesn't understand at all what's going on. Poor baby. “Is there anything else in his will for us?”

“Uh…no…that's all.” The lawyer said

“Good. You may leave now. “ She said

“Have a good night.” The man says with a quick bow before walking out of the house.

“Oh god his face!” Natuso squealed and Fuyumi aimed for the back of the head again. “Stop that!”

“No.” Fuyumi said “Alright then, I'm going to go call mom's hospital and confirm the details of her release.”

Shouto was glad their mom was free. He knew she was better now and without Enji here to remind her of the past she could finally move on from him. She has spent much of her life locked in her room and hasn't gotten a chance to be on her own for a while. To go outside and see things others see daily. Shouto was happy for his mom and he was excited to have her home again.

“Are you nervous?” Natsuo asks

“About what?”

“Mom coming home?”

“No.” Shouto said honestly “She's healed Natsuo. She never meant to hurt me. Enji is gone now and finally she's free of him. We're all free of him.”

“Thanks to Dabi.” Natsuo said

“Yes. Thanks to Dabi.” Shouto agreed

“We totally have to meet him. He sounds like a cool guy.” Natsuo said

“I'll do some research. Perhaps I can request a meeting as a hero student .” Shouto said “Maybe once I get my provisional license I can speak with him as a hero.”

“Yeah, that'd be nice. If you can figure it out, I'd love to give that guy a high five. Imagine that, high fiving the very hands that killed our father!” Natsuo giggled with joy

“Fuyumi is right. You need more water “

“Fuck your water!” Natsuo shouts

Fuyumi was in the other room and she called her mom's hospital. The usual receptionist answered and Fuyumi had barely spoken a word before she said “Miss Todoroki. I know why you're calling.”

“Yes, I heard they want to clear my mother for release.”

“Yes, I'm sorry about the lack of notice as they wanted to streamline the process as quickly as possible. They've already cleared her.” The receptionist said

“Oh.” Fuyumi said “That's great!”

“Yes. They are going to discharge her tomorrow morning. I was going to call in a few minutes to ask if you could arrange a transport to your residence.

“Oh of course! I'll be happy to pick her up.” Fuyumi said “Heck I'll drag the boys with me.”

“I'm sure she'd love that.” The receptionist says

“Thank you for all you've done to help us over the years.” Fuyumi said

“It was nothing.”

“Thank you anyway. What time should I arrive?”

“9 AM.”

“Thank you very much.” Fuyumi said

“You've already thanked me three times.” The receptionist teases sweetly

Fuyumi blushed “Sorry about that.”.

“I'm just not used to it is all Miss Todoroki.”

“Well, I think you deserve more thanks then.”

“You're sweet.”

“Uhhh anyway I'll be there tomorrow!” Fuyumi shouts as her cheeks turn read

“At 9 AM.” The receptionist says

“At 9 AM.” Fuyumi confirms.

Fuyumi hung up the phone and smiled. This was good. Their mom was coming home and you know what, she can finally realize that dream of having a family. Of course…it's incomplete without Touya. She sighs and walks through the house to Touya's shrine. The boys had been here recently if the sheer amount of offerings piled up had been any indication. She smiled softly. Endeavor didn't like them piling up offerings for Touya. He barely even let them grieve Touya at all. Now that Endeavor is dead they can grieve how they want. Which is why Endeavor didn't get a shrine. They’d already systematically removed every photo of him in this house and replaced them with new selfies of the three siblings. It made the house so much more lively that it had been in her entire childhood. Those pictures of Enji were then given to Shoto to burn. It was cathartic to watch them all burn away like their father did.

“It's finally happening Touya. I just wish you were here to see it.”

“Here’s your meal mutt.”

A bowl of slop was slid across the floor hitting Touya on his bad leg. Touya didn't flinch merely observing the rather fun looking meal option they've given him. The guard looked displeased when Dabi didn't move.

“Get down on your knees and eat it!” The guy snapped as he walked into the room. He slammed Touya’s head into the ground. He stood and kicked the bowl of slop at his face. Touya let the slop slide past his lips as he looked at the guard harassing him.

He was young, clearly looking to prove something. Perhaps he's simply a school bully that peaked in high-school and needed a real job now. Touya almost pitied the guy, but hey he was high level enough to have to deal with the villain Dabi. Perhaps there was more than orange hair up there.

“Lick it up for all I care.” The guy growled, taking the bowl and slamming the door closed

Touya yawns and sat up again. He can't exactly lay down in his cell and even if he wanted too his ribs hurt too much to move his body more than he had too. He's certain they'd broken a few ribs. Unfortunately anytime they burst a few too many stitches they stitch him back up and slam him back in here. Meaning he was surviving longer than intended which is a minor inconvenience. The guards only elect to feed him once a day and even skipped yesterday. Not that he's eaten anything since he's gotten here. He had originally thought dehydration would take him but unfortunately when he was in the infirmary the other day they put an IV in him to regain these lost fluids. His stomach had argued against the lack of food as it cramped angrily but he'd been on the streets so long that hunger was second nature.

To think he killed his father a week ago, thought really it could've been longer. He had done his best to keep track of time passing but really it's so hard when he's in a pitch black room. He's been keeping track of the guards shifts to know around what time of day it was. Though he was probably off. He wasn't even sure how much time passed before the door to his cell was opened and the guard looked at him with disgust.

“Come with me.” The guy said

Dabi did his best to stumble to his feet, though his bad leg started burning with pain. He had been in his cell for at least 2 days and the guard in charge had decided to smash his leg with the door and act all surprised when an audible crack was heard. Was it broken? Touya didn't think so. Fractured maybe. Touya learned to be careful where his body was when they closed the door. He'd only been let out one time so they could hose him down again. Clearly not trusting him to shower by himself.

The guard pulled Dabi from the front angrily and slapped a pair of handcuffs on him that slotted in perfectly next to the quirk-canceling cuffs. He then pushed Touya forward. Touya limped forward and the guard kept prodding him in the back to get him to go faster. Their destination was an interrogation room, obviously enough. It had a massive one-way mirror as well as a table and chairs. The guard pushed Dabi into a chair and locked his hands in place with the restraints on the table. The guard then left.

Dabi wondered who would be here to see him. Perhaps ask him why? Why would you do this? Kill our precious number 1 hero? God he's not sure if he could stop himself from laughing in their face.

Some time later the door opens and his wonderful guest arrived. He was a bit surprised to see the new number 1 hero. Hawks huh? He shouldn't he be busy right now? Hawks glared at him with vicious golden eyes and Dabi just smiled. He couldn't help the way his lips tinged upwards. Hawks walks over and sits across from him, placing some files down.

“I'm sure you know who I am.” Hawks said calmly

“Number onnnnne~” Touya sung out watching as Hawks's glare hardened at his teasing.

“What is your real name?” Hawks asks

“What's yours?” Touya inquires

“Tell me your name.” Hawks was pissed now

“Dabi.”

“Your real name.” Hawks repeats

“Bathilda.” Touya said. Hawks' eyes twitched and Touya knew immediately he had gotten under his skin.

“Fine. Bathhilda. Why did you kill Endeavor?”

“Because.” Touya said

“Just because?” Hawks asked

“Yup, he's Number 1 after all. Wait, no, he was Number 1!" Touya laughed at his own joke and Hawks’ brow furrowed

“I have reason to doubt that's your reason.” Hawks said

“Oh yes! You caught me! I killed him because his face was really ugly. Even that stupid fire mustache couldn't save it.” Touya said before laughing “He looks so much better now that he doesn't have a head.”

Hawks scowled at him before taking his files and storming out. Touya grinned at his own success and turned towards the one-way mirror. He grinned widely at the glass. His own manic face stared back. Skin forcibly sewed shut. Buzzed white hair. Wide blue eyes. He barely even recognized himself. Perhaps he wasn't Dabi anymore. Perhaps he's not even Touya. Fuck it maybe he should start going by Bathilda.

The door opened again and this time someone he didn't recognize entered. The guy was huge. He made Endeavor look scrawny. He sat across from Dabi.

“I'm Nakatani Isamu. I'm an intelligence agent for the Hero Public Safety Commission. I will be asking you questions and you will answer “

Dabi smirked, “Did you need to get all that into the recording?”

The guy narrowed his eyes at Dabi and slammed his fist down on Touya'a hands. An audible crack was heard as the fragile bones broke. Bruises formed quickly over the healthier skin and Dabi didn't react. He's been the subject of many broken bones before.

 “Ow.” Dabi said mockingly

“Listen here boy. You're at my mercy now. You're going to tell me what I want to know and I don't care what it takes.”

“You definitely practiced that one in the mirror.” Touya teases

The guy unlocks Touya’s broken hands from their restraints and pushes him onto the floor. He landed rather gracefully on his broken ribs. The guy dug his boot into Dabi’s healthy side and Dabi felt his ribs crack from the pressure.

“Tell me who you are. Your name. Where you came from. Everything.”

“My name…” Touya coughs “Is Bathilda. I came from hell. My greatest accomplishment was killing Endeavor. I have burnt countless people in my way of that goal. My favorite color is black. My favorite animal is your mom. I haven't seen the sky in a few days but it was beautiful the day Endeavor died. Was there ash in the sky for days after it happened? I'd have loved to see th-”

A firm kick to the side and a loud crack had Dabi gasping for air as his side lit up with pain. The pain however had him laughing joyfully. There was another firm kick and he started choking on his laughter. The white hot burning pain only made him laugh harder. The guy got angry and kicked him right in the jaw. He hit right where there was no jaw bone and it made his remaining jaw pop out of place. It made him incredibly uncomfortable. It did the job of shutting him up.

The guy leaded forward and tried to reset his jaw but it only made it worse. Dabi couldn't help the smile. The guy was probably used to dislocating jaws and being able to set them back in. Dabi’s jaw was half broken apart and the dislodgement had his face even more lopsided than usual.

“What is wrong with you?” Nakatani demanded

Dabi wheezes out a laugh and chuckles brokenly as the guy grows incredibly frustrated with him. He punched Dabi in the face and it all went black.

Dabi awoke in the darkness, a familiar darkness. He sat up and immediately felt his body scream at him. He was been tossed back into his cell. He knew because he was folded up like a fortune cookie and he could barely maneuver himself into a sitting position. His hands were still broken, he only noticed this as he felt them against his body. His thumb was bend backwards in a way a thumb shouldn't be and his pinky finger was practically a limp noodle. The other hand was much the same. Though one finger felt particularly fucked jutting in different directions. Someone had done the favor of fixing his jaw though only so he can talk later. He suspects they won't give him proper medical treatment until he cracks. He's not sure he has a real name anymore anyway. Dabi's purpose to kill Endeavor had been fulfilled and with that all the anger and resentment that fed him stopped. Dabi died too that day. Touya had come back, though he wasn't sure if he was Touya either. He was a monster. He killed other monsters. Perhaps Touya was still just a memory and all that's left was the monster. Does he have a real name? Does he even have a fake one?

Bathilda, he will admit, is a character he made up for Natsuo's bedtime stories. Bathilda the evil witch who had a soft spot for hurt children. She was evil with a full evil castle and a dead forest with all the spooks one would expect. She cursed those that were bad to their children and turned them into monsters. Natsuo used to love that story. Perhaps because it gave him hope that one day a witch lady would come and transform their dad into the monster they all see. That way everyone can see the beast. The monster he truly was. Touya smiled to himself. He was no witch capable of cursing the monster. But he was able to slay the monster that had haunted so much of his family's life. To everyone else he was the monster. The patchwork of skin and the gruesomeness of his body. But maybe, to his family, he got the change to be the knight in shining armor who slew the dragon. Maybe he could finally have been like Bathilda and protected the children.

Touya misses Natsuo. Now more so than ever before. The kid was sweet even when he acted all tough. He listened to Touya in ways no one else would. Touya loved his other siblings of course, but Natsuo was always there. Ready to listen to another crazy bedtime story. Ready to listen to his complaints and thoughts and feelings. He wonders what he'd say to him now? It's hard to decide. Would Natsuo even want to see him? His broken big brother? His nasty, disgusting, and horrid older brother? Touya wasn't sure if he looked like himself anymore. He was certain actually that he doesn't. Maybe Natsuo would still want to talk to him…That'd be nice. Too good to be true.

He suspects his family will just move on. After all, Touya died. Touya's been dead and buried much longer than their father. They wouldn't care about some lowly villain who killed their father. They'd be together. A family. Just like Fuyumi always wanted.

Yumi…He misses her too. She cared deeply for all of them, even when their mother checked out and their father…Well he rarely gave a shit to begin with. Fuyumi was always so gentle and worried. Touya imagines his death may have been hard on her because she was always so worried when he came home covered in burns. What would she think now? Now that he'd burnt up his body to the point of becoming a monster? Now that he'd stooped to the level of murder in order to ensure the Todoroki's can be a real family? She was always stuck between following the rules and what was best for her family. He wondered if she ever decided.

Touya sighed and tilted his head up so he could look at the black expanse above him. He wasn't certain how high the ceiling was, perhaps just above his head when standing. He likes to imagine its as large and expansive as space. He imagines if he stares at it long enough he might start seeing stars.

He thinks back to his interrogation. They don't know a damn thing about him or where he came from. It pisses them off no doubt. He has power over them even in a space like this. They don't want him to have anything over them. It's why they so desperately want his real name. His identity. It's hard to give up information he doesn't have.

Notes:

I uh...
I hope you like it! I uh... yeah...

I'm not sure when I'll update next but it may be a while. I'm trying to get into a groove of updating my WIPs.

Also writing Hawks like that hurt but whatever, he's not that important to this story 🤷‍♀️
I know, who am I?

Also I should've wrote more for the Endeavor funeral scene but I couldn't stomach that much praise for that motherfucker.

Chapter Text

Fuyumi arrived at the mental hospital promptly at 9 AM, the boys were also in the car. Shouto was in the passager seat on his phone texting his classmates. He had explained they wanted to go to a mall and were planning the details. The class hadn't done anything together since the whole training camp incident. Natsuo was laid across the back curled in a ball and looked like death itself. He was hungover from the night before. Fuyumi was almost certain she'd have to bury him too and she wasn't about to lose a second brother. She managed to sort of get him dressed even if he resembles a corpse.

Fuyumi parked the car and the three of them got out. Shouto put his phone away and Natuso adjusted his thick black sunglasses. Fuyumi herded them into the building where the receptionist sat. Seo Naomi was her name and really it fit because she is gorgeous. At least Fuyumi thought so. Her purple hair draped gracefully over her yellow eyes and she really pulled off the black frames she wore.

“Rein it in Yumi.” Natsuo muttered

“Shush.” She dismissed and Natsuo laughed until she smacked him and that got him to shut the fuck up. “Hello! We're here to pick up Todoroki Rei.”

“Of course, she's ready for you in her room.” Seo said with a small glance at Fuyumi

“Thank you.” Fuyumi said

The three of them continued down the hall to the elevator. As soon as the doors closed Natsuo leaned in and said “You are so gay!”

“Oh jeez.” She said adjusting her glasses

“Wait, Nee-san is gay?” Shouto asked

“I guess there's no use hiding it, yeah I'm…I'm Lesbian.”

“I thought you were Japanese?” Shouto said

Natsuo lost it as he started laughing so hard he almost fell over. Fuyumi couldn't help the small laugh that bubbled out of her. Shouto just looked confused at this point.

“S-Sho. Shouto. Lesbian means she's a woman who likes women.” Natsuo wheezes

“Oooooh.” Shouto said “You could have told us sooner.”

“Yeah well, I didn't want to come out with dad around. “ Fuyumi said “I wasn't certain he'd be fond of it...”

“Please, the closet was glass.” Natsuo said

“We never had a glass closet.” Shouto said confused

“Oh my sweet child.” Natsuo said patting his head and Shouto narrowed his eyes at him

The elevator opened and the three of them walked the familiar route to their mom’s room. Fuyumi took the lead as she knocked on the door. She opened it slowly and their mom was packing up some last minute things. At the door opening she turns around and smiles.

“Fuyumi!” Their mom said walking over

“Hey mom.” Fuyumi said happily as they met in a hug.

“They told me you'd be here to pick me up.” Rei said

“Yeah, I even brought the boys.” Fuyumi said, gesturing behind her.

“Oh!” Rei said, looking over Fuyumi's shoulder at Shouto and Natsuo.

“It is great to see you mom.” Shouto said

“Yeah! “ Natsuo said walking over to pull his mom and sister into a hug

“It's so lovely to see all of you. I hope things haven't been too hard since your father died.” Rei said

“We actually celebrated it last night, things have been good.” Shouto said

“Ah…well I hope there is still some cake then.” Rei said as she separated from her kids embrace

“I'll make more.” Fuyumi assures

“Oh they've arrived. Good.” Rei’s doctor said entering the room “Exciting day isn't it?”

“Yes, we're very happy to have her come home.” Fuyumi said

“Lovely, everything is in order then. “ The doctor says

“Thank you doctor. For…everything.” Rei said

“It was no problem Miss Todoroki.” The doctor assures

“Okay, what all are you taking mom?” Natsuo asks

“Just this bag of my things.” Rei said walking over “It's the letters Shouto wrote for me for the most part.”

“Oh…” Shouto responded

“They make me happy.” Rei said

“I'm glad.” Shouto said

Rei takes her bag and allows Fuyumi to lead her out of the room. The boys come behind to flank them as they walk through the halls. Once they get outside they walk together to their car. Fuyumi led her mom to sit in the passenger seat so the boys once again took the rear and sat in the back seat. Fuyumi walks around to the driver's side and sits down in the driver seat.

“Okay, let's go.” Fuyumi said

They arrive back at the Todoroki estate some time later, Fuyumi parks in the garage and they all get out of the car. Rei looks a bit nervous now so Fuyumi takes her hand and squeezes. Rei acknowledges her by squeezing back. Shouto opens the door for them and Fuyumi leads her mom into the house.

The Todoroki estate has never been so homely before, the walls had pictures of the siblings and only the siblings. They made silly faces and serious feces, but most of all they smiled. It made the house feel more alive. Rei stopped in front of one and gently touched the smiles on their faces. “You've redecorated a little.”

“Yeah well, it needed to feel like a home. Before now it's always just been the “estate.”.” Fuyumi said “It's dreadful really.”

“It's nice to see you all together.” Rei said, “Not to mention happy.”

“Now that the old hag is gone. We're able to be ourselves.” Natsuo said before smirking at Fuyumi. Fuyumi glowers at him.

“I have found this to be quite enjoyable. Posing for these photos was a new experience.” Shouto said

“Maybe, you'd allow me to join you in some?” Rei suggests

“Oh! Of course!” Fuyumi said

After that, Fuyumi took their mom to get situated in her room and that left Shouto and Natsuo standing alone in the hall. Shouto fishes out his phone and turns to Natsuo. “I have found the number for the front desk of Tartarus prison.”

“Awesome.” Natsuo said

“I will call them. “

Shouto dials the number and brings his phone to his ear. The phone rings once, twice, then finally it clicks.

“Hello, front desk of Tartarus. How can I help you?”

“I would like to visit an inmate.” Shouto said

“Okay…And who is it you wish to see?”

“His villain name is Dabi, I am unsure of his real one.” Shouto said

“I see…Unfortunately I can't allow you to see him.”

“Why is that?” Shouto asks

“That inmate is still being investigated, as well as our policy that all new inmates can only receive visitors after 6 months of good behavior. Dabi unfortunately has quite a few infractions already. “

“Oh..But what if I wanted to speak with him as a hero student?” Shouto pushes

“I'm afraid we can't allow that until the investigation has concluded. So unless you are interning under a hero that has to do with his case, I cannot allow you to meet him. When investigations conclude, you would need a provisional license to even be put on the visitor list.

“I see…How long do you think the investigation will take?” Shouto inquires

“I do not know.”

“I see.” Shouto says resolutely

“Are there any other questions?”

“Uh…Yes actually, are we able to send him written communication instead?” Shouto said hopefully

“Not until the investigation is concluded.”

“Oh…Okay then. “ Shouto was disheartened

“Anything else I can help you with?”

“…Could you call me back when the investigation has concluded?” Shouto asks

“I can take down your number. What is your name sir?”

“Todoroki. Todoroki Shouto.” Shouto said

There was a small thud of something falling on the other end and Shouto waited patiently for whatever issue to resolve itself. Finally the phone gets picked back up “Endeavor is your father?”

“No.” Shouto said and there was an audible sigh of relief “He was my father.”

Natsuo overheard him saying this and snorts before snickering into his hand. The person at the front desk did not share this laughter. They instead cleared their throat uncomfortably.

“I understand he killed your father, but we don't condone violence of any kind towards our inmates."

“I wish him no harm.” Shouto assures “Neither does my family.”

“....Well still, uh….I'm going to call my superior officer one moment please.”

The hold started and Shouto looks at Natsuo who was very clearly eavesdropping. Natsuo looked at him expectantly.

“I do not believe we will be able to see him until either the investigation is complete or 6 months of good behavior have passed. “ Shouto explains

“Dang.” Natsuo said

“I believe they are talking to their superior due to relation.” Shouto said

“I suppose that makes sense.” Natsuo said

The call clicks back on. “Thank you for waiting Todoroki. I spoke with my immediate supervisor and he instructed me to tell you that visitation between the victim's family and the convicted is a very complex system and you would have to be thoroughly vetted. Though it is more than likely it will never happen.”

“That is very unfortunate, I would like to explore these complex systems if you do not mind. Me and my family would like to speak with him.” Shouto says

“Do you have an email I can send these documents to for your review?” The receptionist seemed tired now

“TodorokiS@UAHS “ Shouto said calmly

“I'll email you the details…now.”

“I've received it.” Shouto then confirms

“Very well. Now, any other thing you can think of?”

“Hmm…not at the current moment. Thank you….What is your name?”

“Kasai Aoi.”

“Thank you Kasai.”

“Have a good day.”

“Goodbye.” Shouto says

“Sooo?” Natsuo immediately prodded

“I have been told it isn't likely we will get a chance, but if we fill out some paperwork there is a chance. Assumably after six months or the investigation ends. “ Shouto informs

“That's a lot of work.” Natsuo said

“To be fair, I do not believe it is common to want to see the man who murdered your father…other than for revenge.” Shouto said

“Still. “ Natsuo pouted “I wanted to see him now.”

“I'll look into it further.” Shouto assures

“What are you two talking about?” Fuyumi asks

“Oh, Shouto called Tartarus about visiting Dabi and they told him it probably won't happen. But there is a complex way we can do it. Even then he can't have visitors until the investigation ends and/or 6 months of good behavior.” Natsuo summarizes

“Oh…”Fuyumi said

“Dabi…as in the man who killed your father?” Rei asks

“Yeah.” Natsuo confirms

“Can we send him a letter?” Fuyumi asks

“No.” Shouto said

“I didn't realize you had interest in meeting him. “ Rei said softly

“We wanted to thank him for…taking out the trash. “ Natsuo said

“I suppose that makes sense.” Rei said

“I just hope they aren't treating him badly.” Fuyumi said

“You know Tartarus’s reputation.” Natsuo said

“What is that reputation?” Shouto asks

“Oh, that they treat their inmates as less than human and typically treat them very badly.” Natsuo said

“But Kasai said they do not condone violence against inmates?” Shouto said

“Obviously he'd say that. It was probably just something they tell visitors.” Natsuo said with an eyeroll

“Well then I really hope he's being treated well…” Fuyumi whispers

“Me too.” Natsuo agrees

Time had passed but he wasn't sure how much. The guards had stopped feeding him what he could only assume was days ago. He'd been locked in his room in complete darkness. Sometimes he felt the eyes of someone else on him. Someone breathing in his room and taking up the precious air in his small box. He's fairly certain there are spiders crawling along the seams of his skin and trying to wiggle into his flesh. He's way too tired to brush them away.

“Touya…” What a soft voice, he glances to the side and swears he sees the form of his mother in the darkness. “What have you become?”

That's a good question, he wasn't sure. Maybe he started as her son, but he's fairly certain he's just a husk now. Waiting to die.

“Did you train too much?” His mother asks, “You're covered in scars.”

He wanted to explain to her that he never stopped training to begin with. Not when she told him to stop. Never when Enji told him to stop. Not even when Fuyumi begged him to stop. He's a bad son and brother for that…never listened.

“I always knew you were a failure. I wish I never had you.” His mother said and Dabi felt his eyes bore into the form of his mother. She's not even really here.

“Me too.” His voice cracked at the words and his dry throat screamed

The door opens and she vanishes. Dabi hisses at the light and covers his burning eyes. He feels himself get dragged out of the room regardless and his eyes are forced to adjust to the fluorescent lights in the hall. It burned even though he closed his eyes. He thrashing and pushing until they give up and jab him in the neck. The world starts to go quiet and a minute later he’s out like a light.

He wakes up slowly, the sound of a heart monitor ringing in his ears. He hears it speed up as he gasps for air and sits up as fast as possible. No! No! He can't be there! He burned it. It's gone! Then his mind caught up completely and he realized that he wasn't in that hospital. In fact, nothing here resembled that place. The walls of that hospital were painted to seem more friendly yet missed the mark. These walls were a stale white. In fact, everything was a pale white that made his eyes burn. He coughs and feels a tug on his arm. He looks down and notices a needle stuck into his frail arm and he visually follows it to an IV bag. Fucking great. He was certain he was close to dying and yet now his injuries were fixed. The fingers that were broken were wrapped up in casts. His bad leg was in a thinner cast. He hates that they'd healed him. Why bother wasting the resources?

The curtain around his bed pulls back and a small woman pops into view. She had thick pink glasses and dark jade colored hair tied in a bun. She was wearing a doctor's coat over a pale pink set of scrubs. She held a clipboard in her hands and adjusted her glasses before looking up. She jumped when she noticed him looking at her.

“Oh you're awake!” She says “That's good, it means you're alive.” Touya stares at her blankly, his eyes finally allowing himself to adjust to the light at a somewhat normal interval.

“I'm glad you were brought in when you were, the guards said they found you unconscious.” The doctor lady says and Touya rolls his eyes at the blatant lie she was told. It hurts to roll his eyes . He's not doing that again fuck. “I can't believe those mean men just left you alone in your cell like that. “ Touya snorts because obviously they'd do it, it's not like they'd get repercussions. Dabi wasn't going to eat anyway so why bother with it? Douchebags like that look for any way to slack off.

“Here, I had food prepared for you.” She said “I know you haven't been eating but honestly the records show they were feeding you slop so I'm not surprised.” She slides a tray in front of him and he blinks at it slowly. It was clearly some miso soup. His stomach rumbled but he ignored it. He doesn't understand why she's wasting good food on him. “You're severely underweight.” She tacks on.

Touya stares her down for a moment and she clearly gets nervous before something suddenly hits her. “Oh right I haven't introduced myself, I'm Doctor Haga Yasu. I'm a new doctor at this prison. I just finished my residency at a different prison.” Ah, a newbie. Explains her zeal. Explains why she hadn't been hardened by the scum that exists in this hell hole. Touya pitied her and wondered briefly how quickly she'd get worn down.

“I'll leave you alone now, just…try to eat something.” She said with a surprisingly genuine smile at someone who is a convicted criminal.

She was way too trusting. He messes around with the idea of eating because his stomach was starting to really protest it being empty but he pushes it away. He curls up into a ball and stares at a spot on the ceiling. Why couldn't they just let him die? His body was tired of pushing past the expiration date and yet they kept forcing life back into it. Why? If only to prolong how long they can torture him? He supposes they still don't know his identity but it doesn't matter when he's dead. He'll go down as the unnamed man who killed Endeavor. He's okay with that.

Doctor Haga appears some time later, he's surprised he's lost so much time. His ability to time keep has been thrown out the metaphorical window, because he hasn't seen a real window in god knows how long. If she was disappointed by him not eating she didn't show it. She just quietly put the soup to the side again.

“It's okay.” She assures “I'll try to help you get your appetite back…”

He huffs a laugh. Over his dead body. She looks at him sympathetically and the look reminds him way too much of his younger sister so he looks away. She shuffles away but no one comes to throw him back in his box. He lays there patiently but the only person that even shows up is a nurse who came to switch out his IV bags. He lays completely still until eventually sleep takes him. At least…this dream will be over.
