Work Text:

Marcus couldn't believe his luck. He was getting pounded by the most gorgeous alpha in the world (without having ever seen his face— Marcus was that sure) while the sounds of fucking surrounded them both.

It had taken him a while to work up the nerve to attend the public sex event, but when he received his mask in the mail, he felt a little more sure that his identity would be concealed. And fuck, was it worth it.

"Right there," he moaned, the sound echoed by the couple on the plush couch to his right. "Fuck, you fill me so good."

His partner grunted, grabbing two handfuls of his ass and kneading at the flesh.

"Oh," Marcus gasped, clenching over the man's cock. "If you grab us one of those wedges, I know a position where you can spank me while you fuck me."

That brought a whine from his mystery partner's lips, and in moments, they were reconfigured, the man's cock sliding home and making Marcus whimper once more. The first good smack had Marcus crying out, his cock jerking and leaking over the prop holding him up.

"Just like that," he urged, noticing how his partner's thrusts became more urgent. Each smack of hand against flesh brought him nearer to the edge, until he couldn't hold back anymore. "Please," he begged, and the man reached around at just the right moment to stroke him through his orgasm.

"So fucking perfect," he murmured, loving the way his body jerked with his partner's more urgent thrusts. He was just beginning to piece together the words to beg for his knot when he felt the earth move.

That wasn't a euphemism— and he'd already come, besides. No, the earth was actually moving.

"Earthquake!" came the frantic call from the next room, and the sentiment echoed through the play spaces as toys and decor began to fall from their shelves.

"Fuck," his partner said gruffly as he pulled out. Marcus turned to see him stumble toward the plush couch, helping set it to rights as the couple who had previously been on it grabbed at each other for comfort.

Marcus looked around, and not a moment too soon— he saw the nearest set of shelves wobbling dangerously, then leapt to his feet to help another stranger keep it from falling on some partiers who hadn't decided to stop their fun.

"Fuck, this is bad." Marcus kept his position until the shaking died down, and then he released a relieved breath. They'd have to worry about aftershocks, but he didn't plan to stay. He'd get his partner's number and then—

His partner.

Marcus readjusted his mask, sure that it was obscuring his peripheral vision, because he couldn't see the man anywhere.

"No," he breathed. He can't have lost him. He and Marcus had fit—not just the sex, but the way the man had touched him while they danced, like he was something precious. Marcus had even let the word mate drift through his mind.

There was no hope for it, though. He was gone.

The worst part wasn't losing his mate in an anonymous crowd. No, the worst part came the next morning, when he woke up overheated with the bedding shoved away.

Marcus was in heat.

He groaned miserably as his body begged for his alpha back. "You think I don't want him here?" he cried out. Fuck, now he was talking to himself.

A knock on the door a moment later had him fumbling to find a sheet to pull over himself.

"You alright in there?" His roommate called through the door.

"Jed. Oh, Jed, it's awful," Marcus whined, knowing at least his roommate would hear him out, and hopefully make a few calls to find him an alpha once he'd vented for a few minutes.

Jed opened the door and peaked inside, then came in when he took in Marcus's sorry state. "Are you in heat?" he asked incredulously.

"I had the most amazing dicking down," Marcus said wistfully.

Jed smirked. "And that's awful?"

"Awful! Because my man—my mate—disappeared into the wind as fast as the earthquake that broke us apart. And then apparently triggered my heat."

Jed took up a perch at the edge of Marcus's bed, looking delighted. "Your mate, huh?"

"He fled before he could give me his knot," Marcus moaned.

"You— This guy you hooked up with was an alpha?" Jed asked, his voice going funny at the end.

"Yes, he was my perfect mate, Jed. Keep up."

"The guy who fucked you at the party," Jed checked.

"Yes," Marcus said. Even he was getting tired of his own dramatics.

"And only one guy fucked you there, right?"

"Jed, what the fuck?" Marcus said, dropping the act. "You're supposed to indulge me so I can complain and unburden myself from fate's cruel twist."

"How d'you know he was an alpha?"

Marcus sighed happily, casting his mind back to the day before as he fell back to the bed. "Omegas don't fuck that good." He swallowed as an uncomfortable surge of heat flushed through him. Fuck, he couldn't think about it too much until he found a heat partner.

"And this guy you know nothing else about— you would've let him bite you?"

"Not yet," Marcus argued. "I'm not that easy. But still… when you know, you know."

"Marcus." Jed's voice held a sharp note that sent an absent thrill through Marcus. "Sit up."

Marcus did, and blinked a few times before he realized what was going on. Jed had taken his shirt off—and there, right below his left pec, was the birthmark. The same birthmark he'd spotted on his mystery man and kissed gently before he'd gone down on him.

"But— you're an omega."

"One that fucks as good as an alpha, apparently."

Marcus could hardly breathe. His mind was going foggy already, recognizing the scent that had felt so familiar and comforting, that he counted as another reason the seeming stranger was perfect for him. "Why… why didn't you say anything?"

"Marcus, c'mon. We've lived together for almost two years, man. I was pretty sure you didn't want me. Not the real me."

"I… didn't even know that was an option," he said honestly. He thought only an alpha could make him feel that good. But with the way his body was yearning for Jed's now, he was disabusing himself of those notions rather quickly. "I would've propositioned you the day we moved in if I had."

"Fuck. Really?"

Another dizzying wave passed over him, and Marcus grimaced. "Please, Jed. I need you."

"You sure? I can get you an alpha. We can talk after this passes."

"I'm sure," Marcus said, feeling it more with every passing second. "It's you."
