Work Text:

Han is gone for the weekend—he’s off with Chewbacca, settling up a bet with an old friend. Luke and Leia had made very sure that this was a real old friend, and not someone Han had cheated who’d try to stab him in the back in kind, but there was nothing to worry about on that end. That means that Luke and Leia are left at home, with Leia still writing proposals to try to get the rest of the Alderaanian refugees from Alderaan’s distruction a few years ago permanent citizenship on other planets.

Luke is meditating back in their bedroom, on a mat he’s laid down near their gigantic bed. He likes meditating here best of all if he can’t do it out in nature; there’s joy and desire and love soaked into the room. It’s the aggregate of the emotions they’ve felt here, and the positive ones far outweigh the negative.

But then he feels something—it’s Leia, her frustration bubbling through her mental shields and reaching Luke easily as a summer’s breeze kisses a cheek. He withdraws his consciousness back into himself and seeks her out, finding her out in their main room, at her desk.

Her hair is braided back, spilling out over her back in one long train. She looks small, hunched over her datapad, but Luke knows that she’s just tired. He approaches her from behind, slotting in as neatly as if he’d been born in that exact position, ready to comfort her.

“It feels like this work never ends,” Leia says, her voice quiet as she taps out a few more lines on her datapad.

Luke rubs at her shoulders, pushing his thumbs deep into the tense muscles there. She groans, and tips her head back against his chest, leaving it there for a few long moments as Luke tries his best to alleviate his sister’s aches and pains.

“Take a break,” he suggests, leaning down and kissing her just at the corner of her mouth. The affection is almost absent-minded, an offshoot of their close relationship. “The work will still be here after.”

Leia turned her face, turning the almost-lip-kiss into a full one. “And what do you propose we do, for a ‘break?’”

“I’ve got a few ideas,” Luke said, tracing gently down her face.

He kissed her again, softer, and resolved to make the break worth it for her.
