Chapter Text

Frowning in the mirror, she puts the two clothes in front of her, one a white flowy blouse and the other is a navy blue dress. Since it’s winter, she’s pair them with low-rise jeans.

Jun-hee’s hands touch the fabric of the dress when she hears her bungalow doors creak open.

In the reflection, she sees Dae-ho beam at her until he trips on one of her clothes.

“How many outfits are you planning on wearing?” He laughs. The floor of her room is littered in clothes that didn’t make the cut.

“It’s my first time going out since Min-hee…” Jun-hee pauses, “Or I could stay in and we could watch another movie?” She offers as if he’d be the one that’s desperate for her to stay in.

He walks over to her and rubs her shoulders. “It’s Hyun-ju’s last day before she moves to Thailand, you don’t know when you’ll see her again so go.” He assures her.

“Me and Min-hee will be fine together.” He jokes.

Jun-hee purses her lips. Last time she left him alone, he nearly burnt the house down making baby formula. She’s still not sure how he managed that.

“I’ll call Gi-hun for her?” He offers, “We can have a men’s night!” He waves his fist in the air excitedly which makes her chuckle.

“As long as there’s no soju.” She bargains. He nods vehemently and heads out of the room.

“The dress makes your eyes pop, by the way.” He stops at the door and gives her a big smile. Sometimes she forgets that he was practically raised by his sisters.

As soon as Dae-ho moved in with her, Dae-ho’s sisters adored Jun-hee and vice versa. They’d come around to the house for girl’s nights in, birthdays and anytime Myung-gi came around.

He still wanted nothing to do with her child but hadn’t given up on trying to rope her into his new scam. PongoCoin, or something like that.

The day that he didn’t show up to Min-he’s birth was the day she finally realised that he wasn’t worth it. Even Dae-ho had been in there.

She shook her head slightly, as if she could shake off her thoughts. Tonight wasn’t about Myung-gi, it was about Hyun-ju.

For the first time in two months, she’ll head out and have a good time with her friends. She still didn’t know Young-mi or Yong-sik very well, but anyone who Hyun-ju and Guem-ja trusted, she trusted as well.

She slips the night blue dress over her head and looks in the mirror. She’s been wearing the same pyjama set that Dae-ho’s sisters got her for five weeks now. She’s surprised that it hasn’t become fused to her skin, yet.

She looks like herself, Jun-hee thinks. Before the games and crypto and Myung-gi. It makes her smile.

Beep! A horn sounds outside and she gives herself a once-over in the mirror.

She’s got dark, shimmery eyeshadow and long lashes, enhanced by mascara.

Just like Dae-ho reassures her, she looks beautiful and, most of all, happy.

Notes:

I made a 101 Dalmatian’s reference and fixed the chapters! More Dae-hee and Hyun-ju x Young-mi to come!!!
