Dishes

Summary:

Inspired by a youtube reel I found. Chay forgot to wash the dishes again, and Kim stormed into Chay's job. The only way to get Kim to shut up was by kissing him.

Work Text:

All Chay had to do around the house besides his school work was the dishes. There were times when he forgot, but Kim was a patient man when it came to Chay. If it were a bodyguard, no, they would be limping for the next few days.

That being said, today was not the day. Kim had been in the studio for the past 48 hours playing catch-up. He had a deadline coming up, and someone had convinced him to take a short trip to France. That someone was currently at work, something they didn't have to even do. That was the thing about Chay, he felt like he needed to contribute to the bills.

"You already contribute! You don't have to work," Kim argued when Chay came home a few months ago and told Kim that he got a job.

"How do I contribute?" Chay asked.

"You do the shopping and dishes. You keep the condo clean, which is surprising considering when I first met you, you had underwear thrown around the living room."

"We agreed to never talk about that again! But those don't pay bills," Chay smacked him on his arm.

"You agreed to it, I never did. It helps us save money by not hiring people," Kim replied, while rubbing his arm. Chay may not look like it, but he sure can hit hard when he needed to.

"Like you would let strangers into your condo, you don't let any of my friends in without doing even a background check!" Chay shot back.

Which brings Kim back to the matter at hand. He stood in front of the sink, which was full of two days' worth of dishes. Chay's only job was to do the dishes; he worked five-hour shifts. He had plenty of time between school and work to do something that would only take five to ten minutes to do. Grabbing a wooden spatula, Kim turned around and ran out the door.

All he wanted to do was take a shower and crash on the couch, going through the new background checks that came in. Now he had to go deal with Chay.

Chay had been at work for four hours now and was ready for bed. It was hard to convince Kim to let him work. He used the excuse of bills, but the real reason was because of a ring that was burning a hole in his pocket. He put the last payment down before work and was able to walk out with it finally. It was a solid silver ring that was crossed over each other. It was fancy but not fancy enough that he couldn't wear it with everyday clothing. It would go with any of Kim's many outfits.

He could have used the black card that Kim gave him, but there would be two problems with that. One, Kim would get a spending alert and it would tell him that it was at a jewelry store, which in turn makes Kim want to see it on Chay. Secondly, Kim would technically be buying his own engagement ring.

They had been talking about getting married, but Kim wanted to wait until Chay was done with college. That didn't mean Chay couldn't ask Kim though. But after working these past few months for the payments, he was finally able to propose. He just had to find the right time and place to do it. There was no way he could keep this a secret without accidentally letting it slip and ruining his own proposal.

He was about to pull it out to look at it for the hundredth time when the front door rang overhead. The door flew into the shelving display next to the door and made Chay look up, expecting to see someone trying to rob him. He was about to reach for the gun that Kim made him keep on him at all times but looked up to see that it was Kim himself.

Before Chay could say anything, Kim started to yell while swinging… a spatula?

“I have been working for 48 hours, all i wanted to do was crash on the couch and go over the new background checks!” he yelled.

“That’s your idea of relaxing?” was the first thing Chay asked. Then again, he shouldn’t be surprised by anything that Kim does.

“Tankhun got new bodyguards. Arm and Pol ran off together apparently. But that’s not the point,” he continued to yell while swinging the spatula around in the air. “It’s not hard to put on music and wash dishes. It’s all I ask of you to do,” he went on to rant for another ten minutes. Scaring all the customers who tried to come in off. Chay’s eyes never left the spatula, waiting to duck if it went flying by accident.

After a few more minutes, Chay had had enough and reached over and pulled Kim in by the shirt. Smashing their lips together, he finally got Kim to stop yelling. He tried to pull away in surprise but Chay wasn’t letting him go anywhere and deepened the kiss. From the corner of Chay’s eye, he saw a girl come in and yelled in surprise to find what looked like a robbery turn into a make-out session. Hopefully, she didn’t recognize who Kim was before she turned around and ran out the door.

Chay finally let Kim go and stared at him with his mouth gaping open. When Kim didn’t say anything, Chay spoke first. “So why did you bring a wooden spatula?” The question made Kim look down at his hand and then back up at Chay.

“I meant to grab my keys,” he said softly.

“Oh, you’re adorable when you’re tired,” Chay smiled. Without thinking it through fully, Chay pulled out the ring box and slid it across the counter. “Will you marry me?”

Of all things, a ring wasn’t what Kim was expecting. Looking up with wide eyes, Chay laughed at his expression. “You never said I couldn’t propose,” he pointed out, smiling like a fool in love.

“Is this why you have been working?” Kim asked, instead of answering the question. There were tears in his eyes, but he was fighting back. The only time Kim ever cried was because of Chay; he was stone cold when it came to the abuse from his father, but when it was Chay? He openly cried.

“I wasn’t going to let you pay for your own ring,” he gave a little laugh. “So, will you marry me?” he asked again.

“Yes, but don’t think I won’t ask you now that you beat me to it,” Kim answered, as he pulled Chay in for another kiss.
