Niko was a middle age baker with the most delicious pies. James loved his pasta flora, and everyone else seemed to love it too. His store was located in the Old Town of Kos and it was always pretty crowded. Thankfully it was a Tuesday, so James was up in front of the line.
"Καλημέρα Δημητράκη, τι θα παρεις σήμερα?" (Goodmorning James what will you get today?) Kir-Niko asked and James just smiled and said:
"Μια τυρόπιτα κουρού και ενα Μίλκο, please"(One cheese pie kourou and a milko -Chocolate milk-) James answered
"Έρχονται σε 5, και για τον φίλο σου?" (Ready in 5 , and for your friend?) Mister Niko looked at Sirius and then switched to broken English "What do you get?" he asked
Sirius looked at him straight in the eye and answered in fluent Greek
"Μια σπανακόπιτα, μια μπουγάτσα ενα Μίλκο και εναν φυσικό χυμό πορτοκαλι σας παρακαλω"(One spinach pie, one bougatsa - pie with cream- a Milko and a natural orange juice please) He then smiled at Niko.
"Α εννοειται, έρχονται ολα σε 5." (A Of course, everything will come jn 5) Niko looked surprised that he got answered in fluent greek but his smile was big anyway.
In less that 5 minutes they got their pies and drinks, payed and walked out of the store.
James waited till Sirius took a big bite. His eyes went wide open.
"OH MY GOD."
James chuckled. "Haha, Niko has the best pies"
Sirius nodded "He sure does"
The boys walked down the street and turned to an alley they could take to save time. In the alley, there was a small local coffee shop. In one of the tables, sat Aliki, Mitsos and John, James' only mutuals in Kos.
Aliki was a tall blond girl. She was really funny and always translated stuff for James when he didnt understand, even if she could be a little mean.
Mitsos' whole personality was based on football and football alone. He was also James' second cousin from his aunt's Loulas' side. John wasn't even Greek, he was Albanian but he lived in Greece since his dad worked here.
"Hey guys" James greeted them
"Heyyy Jamieboy! What's up bro?" Mitsos said.
"All good man. Sirius, these are my friends, Aliki, Mitsos, and John."
"Replacing me, is it Prongs?" Sirius said jokingly "Hey I'm Sirius, nice to meet you all". Sirius extended his hand for a handshake but the others completely ignored him.
"Uhm nice. Nice to meet you too Sirius!" John said.
"So Jamie, and Sirius of course" Aliki said
"We were thinking of going to the beach today, if you guys wanna join us? You Sirius are invited of course as well" she proposed.
James thought for a moment. "Hell yea I'm in. You Sirius?"
"Yea of course"
"Perfect so see you guys there?" Mitsos added
"Yea of course, when?"
The three kids froze. Then spoke in rapid Greek.
"Uhm what about 6pm?" John said
"Sure"
"Okay" James said.
"That's nice then. Nice to meet you guys!" Sirius shouted as they started walking away.
The boys continued their way.
"I dont think your friends really like me" Sirius muttered
James stopped, turned his head so Sirius could see him and placed an arm on Sirius' shoulder.
"I don't care if they like you or not Sirius you're my best mate and nobody could ever possibly change that" James smiled and reassured Sirius. "Also if they dont like you its their fucking loss, cause you are Sirius Orion fucking Black, the most talented, amazing, funny guy in the whole world. Its their loss dude!"
Sirius smiled and hugged James.
"I love you so freaking much James, you dont understand. You couldn't possibly understand" Sirius smiled.
"Me too, man, me too"
Afternoon came and it was time to go to the beach. James quietly left his house. He went outside and knocked on Sirius' front door. A few seconds passed and then, a tall woman opened the door.
"Παρακαλω;" (Yes?) she said in broken Greek, her dark brows furrowing a bit, but the rest of her face remained cold.
"Uhm γεια σας" (Uhm hi) James said, smiling a bit "Is Sirius here by any chance? We said we were gonna go to the beach today"
The woman - Sirius' mother, Walburga - James assumed nodded, then called Sirius who came in a hurry. "Oui maman?" Sirius said.
She then proceeded to tell him something in French that James didnt catch, because his french were not that good.
They chatted or argued in French, until Sirius just rolled his eyes and said "Whatever"
So thats how they ended up taking Regina to the beach with them. It was all quiet at first. Regina carried a tote bag with ABBA. Probably carrying a book.
But James couldnt help but ask.
"Reggie?"
Regina ignored him for about 5 seconds
"Yes, Potter?" she said coldly , not glancing up to James.
Rude.
"D'you even listen to ABBA? I mean, you dont seem the type to listen to modern music"
Regina stopped and turned to James.
"Someday I really hope you get to realize that you are merely a plain human, with no further knowledge of how other people spend their time in their homes." she said
James also realized for a strange reason that she didnt blink once while she talked to him. Was he staring? Fuck.
She always seemed to despise James, for reasons he didnt even know.
Sirius started talking, but all James seemed to be thinking was Reg's strange words. All he freaking asked was if she listens to ABBA and she started scowling him!
"Are you even listening?" Sirius asked, fake-annoyed and also worried deep down.
"Yea sorry mate, just have a huge headache and can't concentrate well. Probs cause of the sun' eh?" James lied. He hater lying. But he couldn't exactly tell Sirius he was thinking of his younger sister's words, could he?
"Uhm okay, I can give you some Depon I found" he offered (Depon is a medicine popular in Greece, idk if outside of Greece too!)
"Nah thanks mate, it's fine"
"Whatever you say"
The beach was about a 15 minute walk from their houses. Once they got there, Alili and John were sitting on the sand.
"Οχι ρε μαλακα, σου λεω πως - Ωπα, ηρθε ο Δημήτρης και η ....παρεα του" (No you idiot, im telling you that- Wait, James came with his.... friends) Aliki was talking to John. John stood up and walked towards them
"Hey Jamie! Hey guys! What's up?" John did a handshake with James and went to do one with Sirius too when Aliki came and blew some smoke from her cigarette in James' face.
"Ε, προς τι ηταν αυτο??" (Ey what was that for?) he coughed and asked, Aliki ignored him and approached Regina and she tapped her shoulder
"Hello, I am Aliki and this is John" she said in broken English
Regina just looked at her and nodded
"Reg.." she replied
Weird. James vividly remembers her hating when someone used a nickname for her. But people change.
"Nice to meet you Reg, welcome to the club!" John said
Aliki took another drag of her cigarette and then went to throw it away but Sirius stopped her
"You are gonna throw out a perfectly good cigarette?"
Aliki looked at him with an eyebrow raised
"You want it?"
"Hell yea"
Mitsos then came, soaked from the sea water
"Guys y'all should come in, the sea is perfect today"
James smiled widely and practically ripped out his shirt
"Race to the sea?" he winked at Sirius
Sirius grinned
"On the count of 3"
Regina was outside and as -James predicted- pulled out a book from her tote bag. The book today was Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë. James immediately recognized the author, her sister wrote Jane Eyre, one of the books Regina carried on school grounds. He'd seen her reading it pretty constantly.
He drifted into consciousness when Sirius freaking splashed water on his face. In a moment of horror James realized he didnt take his glasses off.
"FUCK" he ran outside to dry them with his towel so they don't rust
Off the water sat Regina, and she was reading.
"What happened and you are taking away my attention from my book?"
"Sorry, your brother threw some water at me and"
"Ugh leave it.' She got up and left.
Weird girl, he thought. Part of him was curious to see where she was going but he staye there. Sirius got out of the water and came up to James
"What happened?" he asked
"Nothing, I just 'took away her attention from her book"
"Oh, okay. I will go talk to her"
