Chapter Text
Danny Fenton was just trying to have a normal school day for once. Sam and Tucker had just left him to go to Mr Lancers class when he started feeling weird.
It wasn’t the normal blue wisp coming out of his mouth. It was different, since everything had to be different now. Since he defeated Pariah, fewer ghosts had been attacking. Which is great for him. He wasn’t technically king yet, as he wasn’t allowed to take the mantle until he was 18. Danny was thankful as he would rather not be king, but compared to the old guy? he couldn’t be worse.
He was closing his locker when he felt the atoms in his body begin to tingle. It was the feeling that your foot was asleep but all over. He quickly went ghost, hoping it would stop but it only made it worse. He guessed he wasn’t going to have a normal school day after all.
He felt his body divide into a million different pieces then recombine. It wasn’t painful per se but it definitely didn’t feel nice.
Danny looked around at his new surroundings. He was underneath a willow tree, with a small bench and a nice breeze. It was pretty here. So definitely not Amity Park. He continued to look around and felt his eyes land on two figures. Two women, one with black hair the other with blonde hair.
“Ghost king?” The one with black hair and a purplish blue trench coat addressed him. They both looked around Jazz’s age, maybe a few years older.
“Why have you summoned me?” He demands in the most kingly voice he could manage. He should have really prepared what to say when summoned. He probably looked like a dork. They just say a silly 16 year old kid floating around with white hair. Definitely not what the Ghost King should look like.
The blonde girl looked skeptical, “I’m sorry, this kid is the ghost king? Zatanna I thought the ghost king was scary and all powerful,”
Zatanna, as Danny learned her name to be, almost seemed to agree with the girl but gave her a warning look, “Artemis please don’t piss him off!”
Danny frowned, “Why have you summoned me?” This time he sounded much more like a kid whining.
“I’m sorry to bother you but we had a request. Someone dear to us has ended up in your realm by accident,” Zatanna explains.
“If they died I can't help, I don’t bring people back to life”
“They aren’t dead!” The blond one, Artemis pleaded, “They are lost, got sucked into the speed force. And we believe that he ended up in the infinite realms”
Danny crossed his arms, unsure of what to do. He could see the blonde girl cared a lot. He just didn’t know what to do. Was he supposed to be scary or mean? Or benevolent and kind? Who was he kidding? He was 16! Not a king. He gave in.
“Who are you looking for?”
“Wally West. He has red hair, charming smile. Hard to miss really,” Danny nodded and snapped his fingers, summoning his ghost messenger.
“Kevin, please find Wally West for me, that is an order, be quick.”
Kevin blipped away again. He was unused to most things with his new power but Clockwork had shown him how to use Kevin and it had become a habit. Kevin didn’t need a portal to enter the realms and seeing as he was who knows where, he was his only bet.
Looking at the two girls again, he narrowed his eyes. Zatanna clearly knew magic and Artemis was clearly desperate. “How did you learn how to summon me?” He asked.
“I learned from a friend. Plus I've read a few books about ghosts. Although most of what is known is fantasy.”
Vague but Danny nodded anyway. It was good she didn’t mention his parents or GIW or any anti-ecto laws. And then he did something truly reckless, “Could you find someone for me?”
The girls looked startled, “Find someone…for you?” Artemis asked, while stuffing her hands in her brown leather jacket. Danny nodded, looking a bit more like the child he is.
“He was lost to me and Clockwork told me he was in your realm. But he told me I couldn't go looking for him until I'm older. I would like to find him, though.”
Zatanna looked skeptical, “Who are you looking for?”
“His name was Jason Todd.”
Both of the girls paled visibly. “We knew him…,” Zatanna started, “He lived in Gotham but… he died.”
“Is Gotham far from here?”
“It’s across the country.”
“And where are we?”
“Star city.”
Danny nodded. He knew this already but it seemed even the magic one didn’t know his Jason was back. Still, Danny planned to search the entire globe for him. Once school finished in a couple days he could. He just hoped he wasn’t too late. That he would forgive him for taking so long. For taking almost 2 years.
Kevin then popped back with an increasingly confused ginger. At least he was confused until he saw Artemis. Once he saw her, he started crying. And so did she.
Danny stepped back, Kevin following. He let the two run to each other. They were crying and hugging. Whispering things to each other. It was sweet. Danny smiled. Maybe he liked his job.
“Thank you, Ghost King! Thank you!” Artemis praised. Danny blushed slightly and just inclined his head, shrugging. Wally looked towards the kid.
“Dude! Your realm is crazy cool! I met a guy who was a Yeti! Oh and this other weird guy who really liked boxes,” Wally West started prattling on and on about his adventures in his realms.
“You are free to go,” Danny said, “You were taken to my realm as a mistake, but please keep quiet about what you saw. There are some people who would kill for that knowledge.”
Artemis and Wally both nodded and made their way out from under the willow tree. Zatanna looked at Danny.
“Thank you, Ghost King. Although, you don’t look very kingly to me.” She said frankly.
“I haven’t been king very long. This was my first summoning so, you know, I wasn't prepared.” He chuckles, a bit embarrassed.
“I suggest a new form, maybe less young looking,”
Zatanna smiles at him and bows. Danny takes this as his cue and turns invisible. After watching Zatanna join the other two, Danny flies away and back to Amity Park. He knew where to start looking for Jason. And he wouldn't give up until he found him and made sure he was okay.
