Chapter Text
Kara has not been feeling her greatest lately. She’s had a low appetite, been exhausted, and has been cold all the time. Everyone around her is concerned, but she keeps brushing their concerns off, until she can’t anymore. She’s been hiding a secret, too scared of how people will react.
“Kara… Kara! Anyone there?” Lena asked.
“Yes sorry I just zoned out for a second. What’s up?” Kara asked.
“Are we still on for lunch at Noonan’s?” She asked.
“I’m not too hungry. I was planning on skipping lunch, but I’ll come with you.” Kara responded.
“Did you blow out your powers or something? You typically never pass up food?” Lena asked, concerned.
“No, I just don’t feel too great. I-” Kara suddenly stopped talking and stared off into space.
“Kara? You good?” Lena asked. When she got no response, she went and grabbed James. “Has she ever done this before?” She asked, looking at Kara who was staring off into space at her desk. “She just suddenly stopped talking and she isn’t responding to me. She also said she wasn’t hungry.”
“No, but something weird is going on with her. Alex said she skipped lunch and Nia said she’s caught Kara asleep at her desk multiple times.” James responded.
Kara suddenly sat up straight. “When did you get here James?” She asked.
“You suddenly stopped talking and started staring off into space. You’ve been like that for the past couple minutes. We need to call Alex.” Lena said, already dialing Alex. “You should head to the DEO and get checked out.”
“Lena said you turned down food. Something’s definitely wrong.” James added.
“I just don’t feel great. Can I head to the DEO after work? I will be fine.” Kara said, trying to avoid going to the DEO. If she went, everyone would discover what she already learned at her Sanctuary, which she hadn’t told anyone about yet.
“No, you need to go now.” Lena said sternly. “You aren’t ok and you haven’t been for awhile.”
Nia came over, having noticed both Lena and James at Kara’s desk. “What’s going on?” She asked.
“Kara suddenly zoned out for 5 minutes and she’s trying to insist she’s fine. She refuses to go to the DEO to get checked out.” Lena explained.
Kara suddenly started shaking. “Call Alex now!” Lena ordered Nia. “James, come help me get her laid down on the floor to get her in a safer position.”
Nia called Alex who immediately sent out a DEO ambulance for Kara. “Alex is on her way with an ambulance for her.” Nia announced.
By then, everyone at CatCo had noticed what was going on and crowded around Kara’s desk. “Someone pass me a jacket for Kara’s head and then leave! You all have the rest of the day off, mandatory starting now.” Lena yelled. Someone grabbed a pillow from Jame’s office and everyone left CatCo.
Alex arrived with the calvary of DEO agents. “You two, lift her onto the stretcher and make sure her head is supported. Lena, you can come with us but Nia and James, you will have to come separately.” Alex said.
They got her onto a stretcher and into the ambulance. The ride to the DEO was tensely quiet except for the sound of beeping machines hooked up to Kara as everyone was too worried to speak. They arrived at the DEO where J’onn, Winn, and Dr. Hamilton was waiting and immediately got Kara into the Med-Bay.
Dr. Hamilton immediately started moving around, getting blood samples ready for testing and making sure all of Kara’s readings were ok. “I need the full story of what happened. Alex already told me the abridged version, but I need to know everything.” She said.
Lena started explaining. “I went up to Kara’s desk to ask if we were still going to lunch together and it took me a minute to get her attention. She told me she just zoned out, and then told me she wasn’t hungry. I tried to check on her, and as she was assuring me she was fine, she zoned out again. I tried to get her attention, but failed, so I went and got James to see if he had any idea what was going on. She woke up and then started claiming she was fine and refused to go to the DEO to get checked over. She claimed she was fine, and then she started seizing. I immediately got her on the floor in a safer position with Jame’s help and had Nia call Alex. She’s been seizing for”- Lena checked her phone -“ About 6 minutes by now.”
“Ok. Is there anything else that might help me to know?” Dr. Hamilton asked. Nia and James heard the tail end of the conversation.
Nia piped up. “Yes. On my way over here, I had a dream. Kara was sitting on a bed at I think the Fortress of Solitude and a robot told her she had Brain Cancer.” The mood in the room suddenly went dark. After a few moments of silence, Dr. Hamilton had finally managed to stop the seizing and Kara was waking up.
Alex noticed first. “Do you know where you are?” She asked Kara.
Kara started trying to speak, but it all came out as gibberish. She was very confused and scared so she started sobbing. Dr. Hamilton started talking to Alex while Lena comforted Kara and rubbed her back. After five minutes Kara had calmed down and was able to speak again. “What happened?” She asked.
“James and I were talking to you and you started seizing. Why didn’t you tell us you have brain cancer?” Lena asked.
“I didn’t want you guys to worry.” Kara explained. “It’s not like there is anything you could do to help.”
“You still should have told us. How long have you known?” Alex asked angrily.
“I’ve known for a week. I found out at Sanctuary after I had a seizure at home.” Kara explained.
“What is Sanctuary? And you had a seizure and didn't tell us? Do you know how stupid that is?” Alex yelled.
“Sanctuary is my Fortress of Solitude. I took my crystal back a month ago and planted it in a cave off the coast of National City. I didn’t tell anyone because I didn’t want you all to worry.” Kara said.
“Yes, it was not a good decision to keep this a secret from everyone, but Agent Danvers, you need to calm down or I’ll make you take a break. This yelling is not going to help anyone.” J’onn said. “I am so sorry you are dealing with this Kara. We can try and find a treatment protocol to help. I am sure with Dr. Hamilton, Alex, and Eliza’s help, we can figure something out.”
“Sanctuary has a treatment protocol much like chemo, but it’s only going to delay my death.I’ve accepted my death and am going to make the best of what time I have left.” Kara said solemnly.
“How much time did Sanctuary say you have left?” Lena asked Kara, scared of the answer.
“If I take it easy, 2 years with Sanctuary’s treatment protocol. I’ve been going every morning before work.” She responded.
Everyone in the room started crying. Lena and Alex both hugged Kara.
“We will all make sure you have a great two years.” Nia announced and hugged Kara.
“Yes we will. Do you still want to have Game night tonight?” James asked and hugged Kara as well.
“I’d like that.” Kara responded.
“When are you planning on telling Mom and Clark?” Alex asked.
“I was planning on telling them at the next family dinner. For right now, can we keep this a secret?” Kara asked.
“That’s only in two weeks, so yes.” Alex responded.
“Is Kara medically cleared to go home now?” Lena asked Dr. Hamilton, who had been running tests on Kara during this conversation. “I think it would be good for her to be able to shower and to get into some more comfortable clothes. And maybe take a nap.”
“First, I have some questions for you, and then you can go home. Some of these questions may be sensitive, so I’d like everyone else to step out please.” She said.
“Can Lena stay?” Kara asked.
“Sure.” Dr. Hamilton responded. Lena squeezed Kara’s hand. “How long have you been feeling sick for?”
“About the last month. I’d brushed it up to not sleeping. It might be easier if I just have Kelex pull the file from when I had Sanctuary run tests on me.” Kara responded. “I can go fly there myself and grab the files.”
“It’s definitely not a good idea for you to fly. I’ll take you there with my transmatter portal if you know the coordinates.” Lena said.
“Give the watch to me, and I’ll put in the coordinates.” Kara responded. She activated the portal and tried stepping through by herself, but Lena ran in after her.
“You shouldn’t be by yourself right now. Have Kelex pull the file, and we will head right back.” Lena scolded Kara.
“Kelex, copy my file from my last medical scan. Also, make up some anti-seizure meds that will work on my biology.” Kara ordered Kelex. “Include the medication information in that file along with instructions.”
“Right away Lady Kara.” Kelex responded.
“Lady Kara?” Lena questioned.
“The house of El was technically part of the noble houses. No big deal.” Kara explained.
Kelex handed Kara a bottle of medication, a couple of syringes filled with medication, and a usb file. “Take one pill once a day to reduce seizures. The syringes are emergency medication in case of a seizure. Inject into the thigh. The syringes are like an Epi-Pen, so anyone should be able to administer. If a seizure continues, have someone bring you to Sanctuary so I can administer stronger medication. Will that be all Lady Kara?” He asked.
“Thank you, that will be all.” Kara told him. She then turned to Lena. “Ready to head back?”
“Yes I am. When we get back to your apartment, you will be either taking a bath or a nap before game night.” She told Kara. “Non-negotiable.”
They stepped through the portal Lena had opened and handed the file to Dr. Hamilton who read through it before clearing Kara to head back to her apartment. “I’m going to take a bath.” Kara told Lena.
“Ok. Will you leave the door unlocked in case something happens? Also, I am going to be checking on you periodically to make sure you are ok.” Lena responded.
“If it makes you feel better, you can sit and read a book in the bathroom. It’s nothing you haven’t seen before.” Kara responded.
“Thank you. Sorry if I am being overbearing, I am just worried. Want me to start your bath while you choose something comfortable to wear?” Lena asked.
“Yes please. You are being kinda overbearing, but I understand.” Kara responded. Kara took a nice long bath while Lena read a book. She then took a nap.
“Honey, time to wake up.” Lena gently woke Kara up. “Everyone’s going to be here in half an hour. You need to get ready. What do you want to eat?” She asked.
Kara slowly sat up. “Pizza sounds good. Do you think they will mind if I wear sweatpants and a hoodie? I’m cold.”
“You can wear whatever makes you feel comfortable.” Lena told her. Lena helped Kara get ready and then they sat on the couch and cuddled until the doorbell rang.
“It’s Alex. I’ll let her in.” Kara told her.
“No, you stay on that couch and I’ll let her in.” Lena told her.
“I brought the pizza!” Alex announced and set the pizza’s on the counter. “You good Kara?” She asked, noticing Kara sitting on the couch curled up in a blanked.
“I’m just cold. I’m fine.” Kara responded.
James and Winn arrived next and came in with Nia arriving not long after. Everyone started eating pizza, but Kara only ate one slice which everyone thought was weird, but decided to leave alone for now. J’onn came after everyone was done eating, as he’d had to deal with a rogue alien, but he made it. Maggie had a night shift and couldn’t make it, but agreed to come to girls night the following day. Lucy was away meeting with the president for the DEO but was going to try to go to girls night.
Winn spoke up. “An invitation came through a wedding. Barry and Iris’s. You have a plus one. It’s in a month. Are you going to go?” He asked.
“Yes I will. Barry must be out of the speed force. You can let him know my plus one is Lena. He’s already met her when Music Meister put Barry and I in that weird magical coma to make us realize who we were in love with. He’ll be happy to see me bring her.” Kara responded.
“Should I say anything about the Brain Cancer?” Winn asked.
“No, I’ll tell him after the wedding. He’s dealing with wedding preparations already, he doesn’t need one more thing on his plate.” Kara said. “For the rest of the night actually, can we not talk about the cancer? I’d rather just play some games.” Everyone nodded.
The conversation quickly changed to the newest marvel movie. Everyone played games till 8 when Lena noticed Kara had fallen asleep. “Hey guys.” Lena whispered. “Kara’s fallen asleep. Let’s start cleaning up.”
Kara heard Lena talking and woke up. “Don’t worry you guys can stay. Sorry I fell asleep.” Kara apologized.
“No you are absolutely fine.” Alex said. “If you are tired, tell us, and we can leave.”
“I promise you, no-one's feelings will be hurt.” Winn added.
“You need your sleep Kara.” Lena said.
“Thanks for understanding guys.” Kara said. Everyone else helped clean up and said goodbye to Kara before leaving. Lena was the last one out the door before Kara stopped her.
“Do you mind staying the night? I don’t want to be alone.” Kara said.
“Of course.” Lena responded and went to the bedroom to grab PJs from her drawer. As Lena was getting ready for bed, Kara fell back asleep on the couch. Lena noticed and gently guided Kara to bed. They both fell asleep as soon as they laid down and slept peacefully all night.

Kara woke up first and tried to sneak out of bed to head to Sanctuary, but Lena woke up as Kara was getting ready. “What are you doing babe? It’s 6:00 AM. You don’t need to be at CatCo until 8.” Lena questioned.
“I was getting ready to head to Sanctuary for my daily treatment.” Kara explained. “It takes an hour and I need an hour to get ready before hand. Especially to make sure I can get some food before the treatment messes with my stomach even more.”
“I can work it out with work so you don’t have to head in so early. Also, I don’t really want you flying by yourself unless there is an emergency.” Lena said. “Can I come with you today for support? That way, you don’t need to sit there by yourself.”
“I’d love it if you come for support. For right now, I’d rather keep going in at the same time. I don’t want people to worry about me.” Kara said.
“It’s a little too late for that.” Lena said. “When you had a seizure yesterday, everyone noticed. I had to send everyone home early to get them to clear out. They are all going to be worried about you.”
Kara groaned. “I really don’t want to explain this to anyone yet. Is there any way I can avoid questions?” She asked.
Lena thought for a moment. “No, but you can just say you had a medical episode, and not elaborate further. They are not entitled to your personal medical information.” She said. “What would you like to eat?” She asked.
“Thanks for the advice. I’m not really hungry, but I know I need to eat something. I guess I’ll have pancakes.” Kara said as she pulled on a cardigan on top of her button down.
“If you continue to have a lack of appetite, we are going to need to figure out a plan. You need more calories than a human so it’s extra worrying.” Lena said worried. “Also, if you start to feel weird, call Nia, James, or me over and have us keep an eye on you. When we get to work, you’ll need to give each of us one of your seizure med injectors so we can give it to you in case of emergency.” Lena had headed into the kitchen at this point and started making pancakes. “You want chocolate chips in your pancakes?” She asked.
“No, I don’t want anything with too much flavor. Plain is fine.” Kara said. “Thank you for making them for me.” She added.
“Of course. Last night, you said you didn’t want to sleep alone. Is that something you’d like to continue doing? Having me sleep with you at night?” Lena asked.
“I don’t want to be a burden. Having you sleep in bed with me last night was amazing, but you don’t need to do that. Especially as I get sicker and sicker, I don’t want your sleep to get all messed up.” Kara responded.
“You are not a burden. I want to be there for you. I like sleeping with you, you helped me sleep as well. I was just asking if you wanted to make it more permanent, and move in with me?” Lena asked.
“If it’s not too big of a hassle, I’d love to move in with you.” Kara said as Lena put two pancakes on Kara’s plate.
“Is that enough for you?” Lena asked. “I know you said that your appetite has been low, so I didn’t want to overwhelm you.”
“Yes this is plenty.” Kara responded. “Thanks for not trying to force me to eat a ton.” She added.
“Don’t get me wrong, I want you to eat, but I think this is something that is better dealt with medically.” Lena said, noticing Kara had finished quickly. “You want anymore?” She asked Kara.
“No, that was plenty.” Kara said, already feeling sick to her stomach. “I’m going to go grab another blanket to take to Sanctuary. You finish eating while I brush my teeth.” Kara went and grabbed a blanket and her laptop so she could watch TV with Lena. She came back to find Lena had finished her food and was cleaning up the mess from making the pancakes.
“Let me finish washing this pan, and then I will be ready to leave.” Lena told Kara. Once she was done, she activated the portal watch and they stepped through to Sanctuary.
“Good morning Lady Kara. Are you ready for your treatment?” Kelex asked.
Kara made her way over to the chair. “Yes I am.” Kelex inserted a kyptonite tipped needle into Kara’s arm and started an IV. He attached her to the already hanging bag full of her treatment.
Lena sat in thought for a moment before started to ask Kelex questions. “Why are you starting IV’s every morning instead of using a port? And can you make an anti-nausea med for Kara? Also, is it normal for her to be so cold?”
“I am unable to install a port. That would need to be done in surgery, which I am unqualified to do. I can make an anti-nausea med, but it won’t take away her lack of appetite. It is very normal for her to be cold. I recommend warm clothes and blankets to help with that.” He responded.
Kara had fallen asleep in the chair, and Lena sat next to her in another chair holding her hand while being deep in thought. She had been planning to propose at their anniversary in 2 months, but she wanted to speed up the proposal so she could spend as much time with Kara as her wife as possible. She’d have to get Alex and Eliza’s blessing, so maybe at family dinner she can ask them. She continued thinking until Kelex announced that all of Kara’s treatment had been given.
“Hey sweetheart, time to wake up. You’ve gotten all of your medicine. It’s time to head to work. I’ll portal us back to the apartment, and then have Frank pick us up from there.” Lena told Kara.
“Sounds good to me.” Kara responded. They got to work and met up with James and Nia.
“I’m giving you both a vial of anti seizure meds. If I have a seizure, you need to inject me with this. It works like an Epi-pen, so you can just stab it into my thigh over my clothes. I am feeling a bit better today than I was yesterday, so I shouldn’t need it, but just in case.” Kara explained.
“What should we tell people if they ask questions about what happened?” Nia asked.
“Just tell them I had a medical episode, and I am ok now.” Kara responded. “They to know anymore right now.”
Nia and James both nodded. “You feeling ok right now?” Nia asked. “I know you said yesterday you’ve been going to Sanctuary to get treatments, and I know its in the morning.”
“I’m doing fine don’t worry. I slept for most of the treatment. Thanks for checking on me.” Kara responded.
“If you need a break, or a nap, don’t hesitate to use the couch in my office.” James offered.
“If you want me to pick you up food, feel free to ask.” Nia said.
“We are all here for you.” Lena stated. “I need to start work, but again, feel free to come talk to me if you need to. Everyone gave Kara hugs before heading to their workstations and starting work.
Kara was working when she had a coworker come up to her desk. “Hi Kara, just wanted to check in. You ok? I saw what happened yesterday. What’s going on?” Her coworker asked.
“I just had a medical episode.” Kara responded. The coworker tried to ask more questions, but Kara just repeated herself. She had multiple such interactions before lunch. She was already exhausted, and it was only noon. She knew she needed to eat something, but she just couldn’t handle the idea of food.
“You mind if I take a nap on your couch?” Kara asked James.
“Of course not. I do have a meeting with Cat Grant at 2, but I can wake you up before then.” James said.
“Thank you.” Kara said, before laying down on the couch and falling asleep. Multiple coworkers noticed and started gossiping about what was going on. She was sound asleep when suddenly James woke her up along with someone else who was in the room.
“You need to wake up. Cat Grant arrived sooner than she was supposed to.” James told her.
Kara sat up slowly to find Cat Grant in the room. “Now what is going on Keira? Why are you sleeping in the middle of the day? And what’s this I hear about you having a seizure yesterday?” Cat demanded answers.
“I’m fine, you don’t need to worry about me.” Kara said, deflecting all of Cat’s questions.
“I knew you are hiding something.” Cat said.” I came here to find you sleeping and you have never once slept at work. Now, I’ll ask again, what’s going on?”
James was standing there witnessing the whole conversation. “I thought you came here for an interview?” He asked.
“I did, but then I found out that my protégé is ill and I want to make sure she is ok. Now leave this office so I can have a private discussion.” She waved Jams out of the office.
“You can trust me.” Cat said.
“Ok fine. I have brain cancer, and I am tired from the treatment. I have to go every morning. The cancer is what caused the seizure.” Kara explained.
Cat’s face became pale and shocked. She sat there for a moment processing. “I thought you were Supergirl. How can you get cancer?” She asked.
“Cancer is an overgrowth of cells. I just got unlucky.” Kara said.
“I am so sorry this happened. Does this mean that Supergirl is hanging up the cape until you recover?” Cat asked.
Kara winced. “Once I get too sick, yes. My life expectancy is two years with the treatment.” She said.
“You mean its terminal? And you should stop being Supergirl now, not when you pass out while on the job. Who knows?” Cat asked.
“My sister and my friends know. While most of my friends. I’m telling the rest at girls night tonight. And my girlfriend. I haven’t had a chance to tell Eliza or my cousin yet.” Kara said. “I found out last week.”
“It’s a good thing you have Lena and everyone else.” Cat stated. “I’d like to come to this girls night as you put it.”
“Ok.” Kara said, accepting that Cat wouldn’t take no for an answer.
“Now, you should probably head back to your desk before people get even more suspicious. They’ve already started gossiping. You work in a room full of journalists, you are going to be questioned by people trying to figure it out.” Cat informed Kara.
Kara headed back to her desk, where she got even more questions, but she just ignored everyone else until she could head home. She was getting ready to head home when Alex called her. “Do you want to have girls night at Al’s like we originally planned, or would you rather have it at your apartment?” She asked.
“If you don’t mind, I’d rather it be at my apartment.” Kara said. “I’m really tired. Lucy did say she could make it so I’ll let her know the plans have changed. Plus, I’m not supposed to drink alcohol with the medicine. Also, Cat is coming,” She added.
“Wait what? Why is Cat coming? If you are too tired, we can cancel.” Alex said.
“She heard about what was going on and about girls night and invited herself. No, I’ll be fine. I was going to take a nap when I got home anyways. Have you told Maggie yet?” Kara asked.
“I have not.” Alex answered. “I was going to tell her when she gets home from work before we leave for girls night. Only if you are ok with it of course.”
“It would be great if you could tell her. One less person I have to explain it too.” Kara said gratefully. “I’m going to head home. See you in a bit.”
“I will talk to her. Have a good nap.” Alex said as she hung up the phone.
“You heading home?” James asked. “How are you getting home? You need a ride?”
“No, I’m flying home.” Kara explained. “Thanks for the offer.”
“You sure that’s a good idea?” James asked.
“Yeah I’ll be fine, don’t worry.” Kara said.
Kara flew home, stopping a few robberies and mugging on the way. She fell asleep immediately after she laid down on the couch. She meant to only take a half hour nap so she could get ready for everyone to arrive but she woke up to knocking on the door. She slowly sat up as Alex let herself into Kara’s apartment. Maggie followed behind.
“You good Kara?” Alex asked.
“Yeah, I’m fine, I just slept longer than I meant to.” Kara said.
“I heard about everything. I’m so sorry little Danvers.” Maggie said.
Lena arrived, followed by Lucy. “Hey Kara. you just want a chill night in?” Lucy asked, still unaware of the Brain Cancer.”
“You good?” Lena asked, noticing that Kara’s face had turned pale.
“I’m fi-” Kara suddenly ran to the bathroom and started puking. Lena followed and sat with her until she was done. Kara freshened up before heading back out to the living room where Nia had arrived with Pizza’s.”
“You blow out your powers?” Lucy asked. “I thought Kryptonians couldn’t get sick?”
Kara winced and started mentally preparing for how to start the conversation. She couldn't figure out how to explain. “You want me to explain Kara?” Lena asked, noticing Kara was stuck. Kara nodded. “Kara has Brain Cancer. She’s already started treatments at her fortress, but her life expectancy is only 2 years.”
Lucy took a moment to process before wrapping Kara in a big hug. “Well then, we’ll make sure you have a great two years.” She declared. “Who all knows right now?” She asked.
“Everyone here, James, Winn, J’onn, and my doctor at the DEO. I was planning to tell Clark at the upcoming family dinner when I introduce Lena as my girlfriend. Oh, and Cat knows. She’ll be here in a bit.” Kara added.
“Who wants pizza?” Nia asked. “I got a ham and pineapple pizza for Kara, disgusting by the way, a cheese pizza, and a pepperoni pizza. I also got a small veggie pizza for Maggie.”
“I’m not too hungry. I’ll pass.” Kara said, causing everyone to look at her concerned.
“When’s the last time you took your anti-nausea meds? Can you take it now so you can eat something?” Lena asked.
“I’ll take it now, but it doesn’t really help. I’ll be fine.” Kara tried to reason as she started shivering.
“Are you cold?” Alex asked. “Also, you really need to eat so you can keep your strength up. I want you to go talk to Dr. Hamilton tomorrow. I know you have Sanctuary, but I’d feel better if you have an actual doctor overseeing your care.”
“Fine I’ll go see her tomorrow. It’s the weekend, so I guess I have the time. Also, I am a little cold.” Kara said, causing Lena to get up and grab a blanket for her.
“Better?” She asked, laying the blanket over Kara.
“Yes, and it’ll be even better when you sit down and stop fussing over me.” Kara said exasperated. Lena sat down with Kara and cuddled. Someone then started knocking on the door. Cat had arrived.
Maggie went to answer the door. “Hello Cat, what are you doing here?” She asked.
“I’m here to disavow Kara of this notion that she can continue to be Supergirl. Did you see that she had continued? She stopped 4 muggings and two robberies just this evening, on what I assume was her way home from work.” Cat informed the group.
“What? Kara I told you you should not be using your powers right now. You have already been exhausted, that’s just going to make it worse.” Lena scolded Kara.
“You know that my idiot brother-in-law still takes vacations as well? Trust me, National City can handle not having Supergirl.” Lucy said.
“I can go out into the streets more and James can as well.” Nia told Kara.
Alex couldn’t even come up with anything to say she was so frustrated with her sister. Maggie spoke up for her instead. “If any cop had cancer, they’d be put on mandatory paid leave. It’s more of a liability than help to have a vulnerable person on the front line.” Maggie said, trying to show Kara that it wouldn’t help to have her out on the streets.
“I’ll be fine. I have gone out there in worse states. I promise I will quit when it becomes too much.” Kara said.
“It’s already too much. You come home exhausted, and being Supergirl takes even more calories when you are already struggling to keep food down.” Lena said.
“Wait, did you two move in together? Never mind, Kara you haven’t been keeping food down? Thats the sort of stuff you need to tell me. That ways I can work with Dr. Hamilton to try and find something. I know you have your robot, but it can’t do as much as people can.” Alex said, very frustrated with her sister.
“We haven’t moved in together yet, but she’s actually moving in soon. This way I can keep a better eye on her and make sure she’s ok. Plus, the cuddles are amazing.” Lena said.
“I was going to tell you to-” Kara suddenly stopped and started staring off into space.
“What’s going on?” Lucy asked.
“This is what happened last time before Kara had her seizure.” Lena stated.
“I think she’s having an absence seizure. She should come back to reality anytime soon.” Alex told the group.
Kara, true to Alex’s prediction, suddenly woke up. “My head feels really weird. I’m going to lay down.” She said, but before she could, she started shaking.
Lena pulled the seizure med out of her purse and injected it into Kara, causing the seizure to slow down before it eventually stopped. Alex then went up to Kara so she could check that Kara was ok. “Hey Kara,” Alex said gently, “Do you know where you are?” She asked.
“I’m at my apartment. Did I have another seizure?” Kara asked.
“Yes you did. Now I’m going to shine a flashlight in your eyes to make sure everything is ok.” Alex told Kara, who grumbled at the news.
Once Alex finished, Kara asked her “Are you done checking me over? I’m fine. It’ll happen again so you are going to need to learn not to freak out every time. That goes for all of you.” Kara stated.
“You had a seizure. That’s a pretty big deal. It’s going to freak people out, especially those who care for you.” Lucy said. “You really shouldn’t be Supergirl while this is happening. We can all handle this and make sure National City is safe.”
“Fine.” Kara said, tired from the debate and from the seizure. She thought she was hiding how tired she was, but Lena noticed.
“Kara’s getting tired. You mind helping me clean up so she can get some sleep?” Lena asked the group.” And before you can try, no you can’t help clean. Go get into something comfy.” She told Kara, knowing she would try to insist she was fine. Kara reluctantly agreed and got into some sweatpants and a hoodie as she was still freezing. By the time she was done, everyone had finished cleaning up and was waiting for her before they left.
“Bye Kara.” Lucy said. “Listen to everyone and let yourself rest for a change. National City can handle being without you, unlike us.”
“Get a good night's sleep. And if I get a dream about you being Supergirl, I’ll sic Alex on you.” Nia said.
“Goodbye Kara. Also, I have decided that I am no longer going to be Press Secretary, so I am returning to CatCo.” Cat said, much to the surprise of everyone.
“You don’t need to do that for me.” Kara said.
“Oh, I’m not doing it for you. I don’t like Washington DC, and neither does Carter. I know he’d like to spend time with you again. He much enjoyed it the last time you watched him.” Cat stated.
“Ok.” Kara said, bewildered.
“Get a good night's sleep Little Danvers.” Maggie said.
“Sleep well, and if you try being Supergirl, I’ll lock you in a cell at the DEO.” Alex told Kara. “Also, Lena, Kara’s appointment with Dr. Hamilton is at 10:00 tomorrow morning. Don’t let her miss it. She listens to you much more than she does to me. See you both tomorrow.”
Everyone left, leaving Kara and Lena alone. “You should go to sleep now. Also, do you want me to come with you to the appointment tomorrow? I know Alex said that she wanted us both there, but if you’d rather me not come, I’ll just stay home.” Lena asked Kara.
“No, I’d rather you come with me. Alex will be too focused on the medical side of things to support me.” Kara stated. “Yeah, I’m tired. I’m going to go to sleep. It’s only 8 though, so don’t feel like you need to come to bed right now.” She added.
“I do need to take care of some things right now, but I’ll come to bed soon.” Lena said. Kara headed to bed, leaving Lena on the couch.
Lena started preparing to promote Sam, her CFO so that she could take a step back and be with Kara more. She also had ordered the ring, and was having it delivered to L-Corp so that Kara wouldn’t discover it by accident. Now, to get Eliza and Alex’s approval.

Sorry this chapter is so long. It kind of got away from me. I’m hoping to update this fic once a week on Saturday’s. I hope people are enjoying this, I know its kinda dark.
Chapter Text
“Kara sweetie, time to wake up.” Lena gently spoke Kara’s shoulders. “We need to get ready for the day and head to Sanctuary.”
“It hurts.” Kara groaned in pain.
“What hurts baby? I need to know so I can help you. Can you sit up?” She asked Kara.
Kara sat up. “Nothing hurts, I’m fine.” She responded, trying not to concern Lena.
“Now I know that's not true. You literally just said it hurts.” Lena said, frustrated. “You need to tell people these things so we can help you.”
“My muscles just ache. It’s fine, I can handle it.” Kara responded.
“I don’t want to see you in pain. Can we let Dr. Hamilton know and see if Sanctuary can make some pain meds for you or something? What do you want to eat?” She asked Kara.
“Fine, I’ll let Dr. Hamilton know and I guess I’ll have Sanctuary make some pain meds in case I need them. I’m not hungry.” Kara responded.
“You need to eat. How about some toast? That shouldn’t be too hard on your stomach. Why don’t you go take a shower while I make breakfast? I let you sleep in a little, so I’m ready to go. Wear something comfy, Alex warned me that it might be a long appointment.” Lena told Kara.
“Ok.” Kara responded and went to take a shower. Lena made sure she had everything they’d need for the day. Kara’s meds, her laptop for taking notes during the appointment, a blanket in case Kara got cold, some card games if Kara wanted to do something during her chemotherapy, a beanie in case Kara got even colder, and a book for herself. She made toast for Kara and it finished right as Kara came out of the bathroom.
“Ready to go?” Lena asked. “I have everything we need for the day.”
“Yep.” Kara said as she ate her toast. “Are you going to make us portal there every day?” She asked Lena.
“Yes, unless you want to ask your cousin to fly you there or J’onn which I am assuming is out of the question.” Lena responded.
“I could fly there myself if you let me.” Kara said.
“Must we have this discussion again?” Lena asked as she opened the portal. “This is for your safety.”
“Fine.” Kara said as she stepped through the portal with Lena.
“Hello Lady Kara. Ready for your chemotherapy?” Kelex asked.
Kara sat down in her chair. “Yes I am. You may start.” Kelex grabbed the IV kit and started an IV, but it took him a few attempts to do so.
“If I may suggest, you should look into getting a port of some sort put in. It’s only going to get harder for me to start an IV over time.” Kelex said.
“I am going to make sure she talks about that with her doctor today. Also, would you formulate her some pain meds? She woke up today complaining about pain.” Lena told Kelex.
“I need permission from Lady Kara to take orders from you.” Kelex responded.
“She has full permission and access to give you orders and access Sanctuary.” Kara said. “She is my zhao.” Kara told Kelex.
“Lena Luthor has been given clearance. Should I add her to the House of El as well?” Kelex asked.
“No, no, no. Not yet. We haven’t gotten married.” Kara stammered out as Lena chuckled.
“Not yet?” Lena asked. “Does that mean you’d like to get married in the future?”
“Yes. But you don’t need to worry about it. Sorry if this makes you uncomfortable, I’d love to get married in the future. Well I used to, but I don’t want to leave you a widow.” Kara said.
“I can worry about the widow part myself. I love you too darling.” Lena said. “Now, you’ll just have to wait to see what happens in the future.”
“Ok.” Kara said, relieved. “I don’t want to sleep. Did you bring anything to do while we wait?” She asked.
“You know me so well. I brought Uno. Want to play?” Lena asked.
“I’d love to.” Kara responded. Lena got out her deck and they played Uno until Kelex announced that Kara’s IV was done.
“Alex said that your appointment was at 10:00, but she texted me and told me earlier that you can come in once you are done with your chemotherapy.” Lena said. “Would you rather go in and get it over with?” She asked.
“Yeah, lets just go directly to the DEO. Then you and I can head home and relax. Plus then I can hopefully avoid a lot of the agents as it's only 8:00.” Kara responded. They portalled into the med bay, where Alex and Dr. Hamilton were waiting, and Alex glared at Kara.
“What’s up with the face that makes it look like you want to murdrer Kara?” Lena asked.
“This dumbass neglected to inform us all that there was another treatment option that would allow Kara to beat her cancer. Want to tell me why Kara?” Alex yelled.
Lena stared at her in shock. “You know that treatment protocol only gives me a 25% chance of living and it would put me in a lot more pain than I am already in. I made my choice for a reason.” Kara said.
Dr. Hamilton spoke up. “She is allowed to make her own decisions, Agent Danvers. I would likely have made the same decision. Kara, lets have you do some scans. Also, you are currently in pain? Let’s discuss some treatment protocols for that.”
Alex just stood there. Lena stood there too, deep in thought. “The pain is manageable right now. Kelex gave me some pain meds, but I don’t need them right now.” Kara explained. “Thank you for backing up my decisions.”
“You woke up in pain, Kara. Also, Kelex said something about putting in a port. It took multiple attempts to start an IV this morning.” Lena told everyone.
“It is ok for you to take medicine for the pain. But I will respect your decision for now. Now, we could do a port, but that would require surgery. I’d go with a PICC line for now as I can do that without anesthesia. It will be painful though. I can try and come up with a local anesthetic so it doesn’t hurt.” Dr. Hamilton said.
“I’ll do the PICC line.” Kara responded.
“She hasn’t been keeping food down either.” Lena said. “You should probably check her weight to make sure she hasn’t lost too much weight.
Dr. Hamilton had Kara step on the scale and let out a gasp at what she saw. “You’ve lost 20 pounds in a month. We need to come up with something to help you get more calories in you. If you can’t keep food down, we will need to put a feeding tube in.” She said.
“I’m not doing a feeding tube. I will try to eat more.” Kara said. “I really don’t need people to start questioning what is going on with me. I already have enough of that.”
“People are going to eventually find out Kara.” Lena said. “They care about you. Everyone calls you sunshine at work. Winn told me before he joined the DEO. You need to stop caring about what others think.”
“But if I have a feeding tube, I can’t do anything as Supergirl even if there is a world-ending crisis.” Kara tried to argue.
“We already agreed you shouldn’t be Supergirl.” Alex said. “I’m sure you can call on one of your friends from Earth-1 if you need help. They’d all be willing to help out, especially after you saved their world from the dominators.”
“Wait, you stopped an invasion on your friend's earth?” Lena asked, to which Kara nodded. “They’ll definitely be willing to help out. It is ok for you to not be out helping all the time.”
Kara finally gave in. “Ok, but still, no feeding tube right now. I’ll reach out to Barry and see if I can get some calorie bars. They have like 1000 calories apiece. I’ll just say that it can be easier sometimes or something.”
“I like that idea. But if you continue to lose weight, you agree we will put a feeding tube in?” Dr. Hamilton asked.
“Sure.” Kara responded.
“Any other symptoms that any of you have noticed?” Dr. Hamilton asked.
“She’s always cold and she keeps falling asleep really easily.” Lena said. “Also, she is moving in to my place. This way I can keep a better eye on her. We already spend most nights together anyway.”
“Both exhaustion and being cold are normal. I’m glad to hear she is moving in with you, I was actually going to recommend she be with someone at all times with the seizures. Now Kara, lay down on this bed. I want to do an MRI of your brain. I will likely do this once a month during your treatment so I can keep an eye on your cancer progression.” Dr. Hamilton said.
“I don’t really like enclosed spaces.” Kara said, panicking.
“Alex and I will be here the whole time and we’ll talk to you.” Lena said.
“There is also an emergency button if you need to exit.” Alex added.
Kara got on the bed and Dr. Hamilton started the machine. “Let me know if you need out. I’ll try to make it as short as possible. Your head will also be the only thing in the machine.”
“That makes me feel better. Lena, will you tell me some more stories of your stupid interns?” Kara asked.
“Of course. So on Wednesday, one of my interns decided that he would try to test one of his current projects, however, he forgot to turn off one of the valves, so he had a big can of shit hit him. He was working on a project that created energy from natural waste. He had to take an emergency shower in one of our decontamination units, and I sent him home for the rest of the day.”
“Classic interns.” Kara said. Lena continued telling her stories until Kara could leave the machine.
“Finally. Now am I ready to go home?” She asked.
“No, I want to do an EEG and we should probably put in that PICC line today.” Alex said.
“Also, I’d like to have you come to the DEO for your chemotherapy treatments. I’ve already had some agents start working on formulating the meds and I’d feel better if you had some medically trained people nearby at all times.” Dr. Hamilton added. “Plus, we have some red light lamps here that might be more comfortable than kryptonite tipped needles.”
“Oh why didn’t I think of that?” Kara palmed her face. “How long is this EEG going to be?” She asked.
“We will do a 60 minute EEG today. I’m going to have you try to take a nap during it.” Alex said.
“Ok. Kara said as Dr. Hamilton put all the sensors on Kara’s head. “Oh wow, that’s really itchy. Can I move during this or will I have to stay on the med-bed?”
“You can move, but you’ll have a big box of sorts with wires attached to your head, so it’ll probably be easier for you to just stay put. Also, before you can do sleep, Dr. Hamilton and I have to run some tests, which will likely trigger a seizure. This way we can make sure the seizures aren’t harming you.” Alex explained.
“First, I want you to blow on this plastic windmill for the next 30 seconds. Try to keep it moving the whole time.” Dr. Hamilton said. “Keep going even if your head starts to feel weird.”
Kara kept blowing on the little windmill until she was finally told she could stop. “Oh, good, I’m glad as that was really making my head feel weird.” Dr. Hamilton and Alex both looked at each other.
“Ok, the next step is closing your eyes. We are going to flash some bright lights at you. I want you to lay down for this next part.” Dr. Hamilton said. “Lena, can you get that anti-seizure med out? We might need it.”
Kara laid down and closed her eyes. The lights had only been flickering for a few seconds when she started seizing. Alex immediately grabbed the meds from Lena and immediately injected Kara with it. It took 90 seconds for the seizing to stop, and another 3 minutes for Kara to come back to reality. “Urgh, did you really have to set off a seizure? I feel like crap now.” Kara complained.
“Yes, it was necessary so we could get some data. Now lay down and take a nap. I’ll turn the lights off.” Alex said.
“You want a blanket? I packed one just in case.” Lena said.
“Yes, that would be great.” Kara said, already falling asleep.
Lena laid the blanket down over Kara. “I can keep an eye on her while you two go talk somewhere else.” She told Alex and Dr. Hamilton.
Dr. Hamilton and Alex both went off while Lena stayed in the room with Kara. Another 30 minutes had passed when Kara suddenly woke up crying. “Oh, it hurts. Make it stop, someone make it stop!” She screamed. Lena immediately hit the emergency button and Alex and Dr. Hamilton immediately ran into the room.
“What’s going on?” Alex asked, seeing Kara crying.
“She suddenly woke up and started complaining about pain. Do you guys have anything for her?” Lena asked.
“No we don’t, but I can call Superman in and have him get something from his fortress.” Alex immediately responded, already pulling out her phone to call Clark.
“No, no, Lena, you can go to Sanctuary and have Kelex formulate something for me there. But I am fine, the pain is just bad when I wake up.” Kara said.
“If you are waking up from pain, that’s pretty severe.” Dr. Hamilton said. “Sleep is really important for you right now.”
“I’m fine now.” Kara tried to claim.
“I’m going to Sanctuary anyways. Wait, did you take any of the meds Kelex formulated you earlier?” Lena asked.
“No, I’m fine without it.” Kara said.
“Just take some. I can’t stand to see you in pain. Please, if not for yourself, for me.” Lena pleaded.
Kara gave in and took some of her pain meds. “Now, let me know if that doesn’t help in the next half hour. Lena, would you go to Sanctuary and have Kelex make Kara a topical anesthetic? We need to put the PICC line in today.” Alex said.
“I don’t need a topical anesthetic. I’ve been through worse pain before.” Kara said as she shivered from cold.
“Trust me you’ll want the anesthetic.” Dr. Hamilton said.
“Now, while you wait for the pain meds to kick in and Lena to grab a topical anesthetic, why don’t I grab you a warm blanket?” Alex asked. “It might help with the pain. Where does it hurt specifically?”
“That would be nice. My muscles just ache all over.” Kara said. Alex grabbed her a warm blanket as Lena went to Sanctuary to get Kara a topical anesthetic. Kara fell asleep in the short time it took Alex to find a warm blanket, so Alex laid it on top of Kara.
Kara had been sleeping for an hour when Alex decided to finally wake Kara up. “I’m going to remove the EEG wires from your head. Let me know if it gets uncomfortable at any point.” She said.
“And while she does that, I’m going to numb your arm. Which arm should I use? Probably your left, as I am assuming that is your non-dominant hand.” Dr. Hamilton said.
“Yeah, left is probably better. Will this affect my ability to type? I need to be able to type for my job.” Kara said.
“It might take a little while to get used to, but no, it shouldn’t.” Dr. Hamilton replied.
By the time Alex finally finished removing all the wires from Kara’s head, the topical anesthetic had finished working and Dr. Hamilton was preparing all the supplies for putting the PICC line in. “I’ll hold your hand while Alex and Dr. Hamilton put it in.” Lena said.
“You can all call me Mia. Amelia’s my first name, but I prefer Mia. Now Kara, this is going to look weird, and you may feel some discomfort, but it shouldn’t hurt.” Mia said. “Try to not look at what is going on.”
“Look at me instead. When we get home, you can take a nice warm bath, and then we can cuddle and watch some tv. Does that sound good?” Lena asked Kara.
“That does.” Kara said. “Can we watch a movie?” She asked. “Like maybe The Wizard of Oz?”
“Really? Again? How many times have you watched that movie?” Alex asked.
“Only like 200 times.” Kara responded. Lena was already pulling it up on her laptop.
“Here you go.” Lena said. Kara watched the movie while Alex and Mia worked together to put the PICC line in.
The movie was an hour in when Mia announced they were done. “Now we just need to do a quick x-ray to make sure it is in correctly.” She said. They confirmed everything was fine and Kara and Lena finally got to head home.
“If you need anything, let me know, and I will come over right away.” Alex said.
“Also, Lena, keep track of any side effects from the chemo or any symtpoms. Can you also track how long each seizure lasts? She should be ok as long as the seizure is less than 10 minutes. I know typically 5 minutes is max for humans, but Kara is an alien, so it is slightly different treatments. We were able to confirm with the EEG we did.” Mia added.
“I will. I will also make sure she actually takes her pain meds and eats some food.” Lena said.
“Thank you. Keeping her pain under control should also help with everything. Her seizures, her lack of appetite, and her exhaustion.” Alex said. “Now head home and take a nice bath. I know you are probably dying to wash your hair Kara.”
They headed home, where Kara finally got to wash her hair, and then Lena and Kara finished their movie and watched Disney movies for the rest of the day.
Chapter 4
Notes:
This is just a lot of fluff
Chapter Text
“After your chemotherapy today, you want to go to the zoo?” Lena asked Kara. They’d spent the last week just relaxing whenever they had free time, as Kara got exhausted after work, but it was finally the weekend again and Lena was determined to give Kara as many good memories in the upcoming weeks.
“I’d love to.” Kara said. “I’m planning on just sleeping during chemotherapy today so you can just do whatever.” They’d gotten into a routine the past week, where Kara and Lena headed to the DEO first thing in the morning before work. Kara would typically sleep while Lena finished working on her plans for promoting Sam and stepping down as CEO of L-Corp. She’d finally finished yesterday, so she was ready to tell Kara later that day at the zoo.
“Sounds good.” Lena said. They went to the DEO where Kara received her chemotherapy, then headed to the zoo. “If you get tired or need to take a break, let me know.” She told Kara.
“Ooh, look at the peacocks roaming around. Aren’t they all so pretty?” Kara asked Lena. “My favorite is that Albino one. It’s gorgeous.” Kara added.
“They are gorgeous.” Lena said, and she couldn’t hide her smile at how happy being at the zoo was making Kara. “Albino peacocks are actually leucistic, which means they are born with a genetic condition that strips them of their pigment. They are very rare.”
“Oh look, apparently they are considered sacred to many cultures. Isn’t that cool?” Kara asked.
“That is very cool darling.” Lena said. “Want to go check out the reptile house? I know you;ve mentioned in the past how cool you think snakes are, even if they freak me out.”
“Yes, lets go see the snakes.” Kara said bouncing on her feet. As they walked there, she kept noticing all the animals. “Ooh, look at the giraffes. Can we feed them?” She asked.
Lena was already pulling out her purse. “Of course.” She said. She was actually glad for the photographers following her and Kara around for once, because it meant she’d get some good keepsake photos that she could always have. Plus, James was one of those photographers, so it meant that he could make sure to get some good photos like Lena asked him to do.
“Oh wow Kara, you were right, this is so cool.” Lena said.
“Isn’t it so weird to feel the giraffes tongues as they take the food out of our hands? This is so fun.” Kara said with a gigantic smile on her face.
“It is very cool.” Lena said. “Now that we’ve fed them, you want to look at them through the binoculars?” She asked.
“Yes I would very much like to.” Kara said.
“Oh look at those baby giraffes, aren’t they so cute?” Lena asked.
“Oh, they are absolutely adorable. Did you know that giraffes give birth standing up and that baby giraffes can walk within their first hour of being born?” Kara asked.
“No I did not. Whe did you learn that?” Lena asked.
“On these little plaques. It’s so cool looking seeing the different facts about all these animals.” Kara said.
They finally left the exhibit to continue on their way to the reptile house, when they passed by the petting zoo. “Can we please stop here?” Kara said. “I know we said we were going to the reptile house, but how can you pass up a chance to pet all of these animals.”
“Of course. We have all day.” Lena said. “Plus, I wanted to pet all these animals too.”
They got to the petting zoo and the guy at the front taking the $5 fee to get in try to not let Lena in, which Kara didn’t stand for. “Hey, no Luthors allowed in here. How do I know you don’t want to experiment on the animals?” He asked.
“She’s not going to experiment on the animals because she’s not cruel. She’s the sweetest woman in the world, and she is my girlfriend. You will not speak to her like that.” Kara said.
“What are you going to do about it.” He responded.
Lena noticed the rage in Kara’s eyes and stepped in. “He’s not worth it darling. Look, Dave,” She said, reading his name tag, “If I was really going to experiment on these animals, you think I’d do it in broad daylight of all these people? Please. I’m a billionaire. Also, I have made a lot of donations to this zoo, and I do not reccomend messing with me or my girlfriend. Now, are we going to have any more problems?” She asked.
Dave gulped. “No.” He said.
“Good.” She said, dropping a $100 dollar bill into the payment jar. “Let’s go see all the animals Kara.”
“Oh, they are all so cute!” Kara squealed. “Here, I’m going to grab some food so we can feed the goats. It’s always cute seeing them stick their heads through the gate so they can get their food.”
“Wait, have you come here before?” Lena asked.
“Only a few times.” Kara lied.
“She’s lying.” An employee who’d overheard their conversation said. “She’s come here at least once a month for the past couple of years. She’s our favorite. Dave’s new or he would have let ou through without any questions. Anyone who’s with Kara is a good person.” The employee finished.
“Why’d you hide it?” Lena asked.
“I thought you would think it’s ridiculous how often I come here.” Kara responded.
“No, it just makes me love you even more.” Lena stated. “Now, lets go feed the goats.” They finished feeding the goats, and finallly got to the reptile house.
“Oh my word Kara, why do you like snakes so much?” Lena asked. “Does it not freak you out how they just slither around?”
“No, I think its cute. Did you know that snakes hear by using their internal ears and jawbones to detect vibrations and then they transfer it into sound? Isn’t that cool?” Kara asked.
“That is actually really cool.” Lena responded.
“My favorite snake here is either a toss up between that boa constrictor or that timber rattlesnake. It’s really sad, the timber rattlesnakes are endangered, like so many of the animals here at the zoo.” Kara said. “What about you?” She asked.
“I don’t have a favorite snake. I don’t really like snakes all that much.” Lena responded.
“Oh, I’m sorry, is this scaring you? We can totally go look somewhere else. I actually wanted to go see the otters. They are so cute swimming all around.” Kara said.
“Oh no, I’m fine. The otters do sound really cute though.” Lena said. “What is your favorite part of the zoo anyways?” She asked.
“Oh, I don’t know. All the animals are so cute. If I really had to choose, I’d say the otters. Let’s head over there now.” Kara answered.
On there way over Kara spotted a dippin dots stand, and had to stop. “Let’s get some dippin dots.” She said
Lena internally started getting very happy, as it was the first thing Kara had requested to eat in the past week without having to be prodded to do so. “What flavor do you want? You sit at this table, and I’ll go get it for you.” She said.
“Can I have some cookies & cream please? That’s my favorite flavor.” Kara responded.
“Of course. I’ll go grab it for you.” Lena said. Kara sat there waiting for Lena to return when her eyes suddenly went blank. James noticed, and went up to her.
“Hey Kara, you with me?” He asked. She didn’t respond, so he stayed there with her until Lena returned.
“What’s going on?” She asked.
“I noticed her blank face and came over to check on her. She’s been like this for the past minute.” James answered.
“Oh hey James, what are you doing here?” Kara asked, having returned to reality.
“You had another absence seizure.” Lena told her. “Here is your ice cream.” She said.
“Thanks for checking on me, but I’m good now James. Why are you at the zoo anyways?” She asked.
“Cat sent me out to do a feature on your date with Lena when she heard you were going to the zoo.” James explained. “She thought it would be a good puff piece, and also help boost Lena’s reputation. Plus, Lena wanted some pictures from this date.” He added.
“Thanks for taking the picture and checking on me.” Kara said and went back to her ice cream.
James pulled Lena aside. “Did she ask for that ice cream?” He asked, knowing Kara had been struggling with her appetite.
“She did. Apparently we just needed to get her in view of ice cream.” Lena replied.
“That’s great. I’m going to go back further away so I don’t intrude on your date anymore.” James said. “Bye Kara. See you at work later this week.” He added.
“Bye James.” Kara said.
“So Kara, I have some big news to tell you. I’ve introduced you to Sam Arias right?” She asked, and Kara nodded. “Well, I’ve recently decided to step down as CEO of L-Corp. Sam is going to take over for me. This way, I can spend more time with you.” Lena explained.
“I can’t ask you to do that for me.” Kara responded.
“You’re not asking, I am offering. Plus, I originally wanted to do my life’s work in the lab, not as a CEO before Lex utterly screwed everything up.” Lena explained. After Kara finished her ice cream, they finished looking around the zoo before Kara got tired and they headed home. Kara immediately took a nap, while Alex came over for a requested meeting with Lena.
“Why did you ask me to come over?” Alex asked. “Kara’s been doing ok right? She felt well enough to go on the date and everything.”
“This has nothing to do with her illness. I invited you over here to ask for your permission to ask for Kara’s hand in marriage. I’m planning to ask your mom at family dinner next week.” Lena explained.
“You have my blessing. One thing you should know about Kryptonians though, is that they propose with bracelets. Now, Kara knows earth culture, so she will definitely accept a ring, but it’ll mean a lot if you give her a bracelet.” Alex explained.
“Is there anything else I should know about these bracelets or Kryptonian marriages?” Lena asked.
“These bracelets are typically handmade and should be indestructible. I’d use nth metal so Kara can’t accidentally break it. Also, marriage is very sacred for Kryptonians. They never got divorced except for in very rare circumstances.” Alex said.
“Noted.” Lena said. “You really don’t have any other questions for me?” She asked.
“No, I’ve seen you two interact. I know how much you love her. I trust you not to break her heart. Plus, if you do, Kara has a lot of people, including superheroes from another earth, who wouldn’t hesitate to defend her if needed. She is a very loved person on all earths.” Alex added.
“Message received.” Lena said. Now, Kara needs to be woken up so she can take her pain meds. I’m tagging you in for this.” She added.
“Why me?” Alex complained. “She hates being woken up.”
“I know, and now its your turn.” Lena said.
“She’s your girlfriend.” Alex said.
“And she’s your sister.” Lena replied. “Plus, if you don’t, I’ll send everyone that picture Kara gave me of you when you had your punk phase.” She added.
“Fine. Give me her meds.” Alex said. “That little traitor.” She grumbled under her breath as she headed into the room.
Chapter Text
“So, when do you want to move in?” Lena asked as Kara was receiving her chemotherapy.
“Maybe this weekend after family dinner. I can pack everything up really fast and easily.” Kara responded.
“No, you should take it easy. The chemo and everything has been a lot, and I want you to keep your strength up.” Lena said. “We can have everyone help us move your stuff.”
“Fine.” Kara said, already getting tired of everyone treating her like she couldn’t do anything.
Lucy popped her head in the room. “Hi guys, I am going on my break. Can I join you?” She asked.
“Sure. Wanna play UNO?” Kara asked.
“Not again.” Lena groaned. “We’ve played that like 20 times in the past week alone. And you somehow always win.”
“Yeah I’ll play. But I’ll beat you. So, when are you planning to move in? I know you mentioned it last week at girls night.” Lucy said.
Kara grabbed the deck and started dealing cards. “I’m thinking this weekend. Lena’s been staying at my place, but her place is nicer.” Kara said.
“Would you help us out? I was originally thinking of hiring a mover, but some of the stuff Kara has makes it very obvious that she is Supergirl. I seriously don’t know how it took her getting put in a magical coma that almost killed her to realize that she was Supergirl and that I was in love with her.” Lena said.
“Of course. Wait, magical coma?” Lucy asked, just comprehending the last part of what Lena said.
“This guy, I think he was a fifth dimensional imp, decided to put me in a musical coma along with Barry my friend from Earth-1 because he didn’t like the way our love lives were going.” Kara explained. “Lena and I started dating, Barry proposed to Iris again, it all worked out in the end.”
“Still doesn’t explain the almost dying part. And your friend from Earth-1? Are you saying there are multiple earths? I leave for a year for an undercover mission and this is what I miss?” Lucy said, shocked.
“I mean, she’s an alien from Krypton. This is shocking you? Yes, there are multiple earths. Kara and I are actually going in a couple weeks for her friend Barry’s wedding.” Lena explained.
“Uno.” Kara said, putting down her 2nd to last card. They’d been playing during this whole conversation.
“How?” Lucy asked, confused. “I didn’t miss any turns or get skipped. In fact, I skipped you.”
“I got lucky.” Kara smiled.
“No, you have to be cheating.” Lucy said. “There is no other explanation. Did you use your superspeed to put some cards in my hand or something?”
“I feel like you are missing the obvious, she did skip you once, but you weren’t paying attention. I saw.” Lena said, grinning.
Lucy drew, as she couldn’t play anything. “Aha, a +4, gotcha now!” She yelled.
Kara got a gigantic grin on her face before placing down her last card. “I don’t think so.” She said.
“Oh come on.” Lucy said.
“I told you she always wins. And she’s under a red sun lamp, she can’t use her powers to cheat.” Lena said.
“So how did you meet your friend from this other earth?” Lucy asked.
“You remember Silver Banshee?” Kara asked, causing Lucy to nod. “Well, she used her scream on me and threw me out the window. He saved me.”
“How did he save you? And why did he come to this earth.” Lucy asked, still lost.
“He has superspeed. Probably faster than me. He didn’t mean to come to my earth, but he ran too fast.” Kara explained.
“Can you not just have normal friends?” Lucy asked.
“No.” Kara said.
“Talking about Barry reminds me, did you ever make a quick trip to his earth to grab those calorie bars?” Lena asked.
“No, not yet. I can’t figure out a good excuse for why I just now need them.” Kara said.
“Wait, isn’t Caitlin a doctor?” Lena asked.
“Yeah, why?” Kara responded.
“I’d feel better if there was an actual doctor nearby when we are there. I only have your meds, I can’t actually help if anything gets worse. Why don’t we talk to her so she can keep an eye out while you are at the wedding?” Lena proposed.
“I already have enough people feeling sorry for me here, I don’t need everyone on earth-1 to feel sorry for me as well. Plus, I don’t want Barry to know, at least not until after his wedding.” Kara explained.
“How many times have you had to have a conversation about how keeping an eye on your health is importantly, and letting some else do it for you is ok?” Lucy asked Lena.
“Too many times. Caitlin will be bound by HIPAA. Plus, I bet she will agree to keep it a secret anyways.” Lena said.
“Plus, if she’s a doctor, she might be able to help Dr. Hamilton and Alex out.” Lucy added.
“Fine. I’ll tell her.” Kara said.
“Tell who what?” Alex said as she walked in the room. “By the way, I can unhook you from that annoying IV now.”
“I finally managed to get Kara to agree to let Caitlin know that she has cancer so that while we are at Barry’s wedding, there is a doctor nearby in case she needs help.” Lena said. “Did she tell you she still hasn’t picked up any calorie bars?”
“Thank you for getting her to agree to that. Mia and I could use the help if Caitlin is willing. Kara, I thought we told you how important it was for you to get calories if you don’t want the feeding tube. Why didn’t you listen?” Alex asked, clearly frustrated.
“I didn’t want to explain why I needed them. I’ll go to Earth-1 now that I am done.” Kara said.
“I’m coming with you. I want to talk to Caitlin.” Alex said.
“I brought my extrapolator because I wanted to go check out what was on Barry’s earth, so I guess you can tag along.” Kara said.
Kara opened up a portal to Earth-1. “Whoah, that’s cool.” Lucy said.
“See you in a bit.” Lena said.
“Love you, see in a while, crocodile.” Kara said, causing Lena to groan. They stepped through the portal. To find Killer Frost and Cisco ready to attack.
“Whoah guys, its just me.” Kara said.
“What are you doing here?” Cisco said. “Not that we don’t want to see you, but please tell me you don’t need our help with an alien invasion.” He quickly added, not trying to seem rude.
“No, I handled that one myself a little bit ago. I just wanted to talk to Caitlin. Where is she?” Kara asked, looking around.
“Right here.” Caitlin said as her hair turned back to brown.
“You finally get her under control?” Kara asked.
“For the most part, yes.” Caitlin responded.
“Wait, what just happened?” Alex asked.
“You saw my alter ego Killer Frost. She comes out when I’m scared or angry. And she has ice powers.” Caitlin explained.
“That’s totally not weird at all.” Alex said.
“Your sister is an alien. I don’t think you are one to talk. Anyways, if you don’t need me, I’m going to head back upstairs. Still working on Barry’s bachelor party elixir.” Cisco said.
“Have fun with that.” Kara called as Cisco headed upstairs.
“Now that Cisco’s left, what do you two need to talk to me about?” Caitlin asked.
“Is there somewhere a little more private we can talk?” Alex asked. “It’s kinda personal.”
“Sure. There’s a little room right here,” Caitlin guided them towards a room with two cots. “What’s so important that you needed to come to my earth specifically to talk to me.”
“Kara has cancer.” Alex said.
“Hey, you were supposed to let me do the talking.” Kara said.
“Well last time I tried, you sat there for a minute straight and Lena had to explain it to Lucy.” Alex responded.
“What type? How are you treating it? Side effects, time to treat, what you need my help with?” Caitlin asked. “What specifically about it do you need me to know.”
“Brain cancer. A special kind of chemotherapy. Chills and nausea. I just need some calorie bars, but Alex wants you to know in case I have a medical emergency while I’m here for the wedding that Lena can’t help with.” Kara explained.
“You forgot to mention the seizures.” Alex said. “This is why I insisted on coming with you. I knew you’d try to downplay it.”
“It’s terminal isn’t it? I noticed you didn’t answer my question about how long it would take to treat. And it explains why you don’t want anyone to know. At least, I’m assuming that last part.” Caitlin said solemnly.
“Yeah, it's terminal. I don’t want anyone else here to know yet as I don’t want to ruin Barry and Iris’s wedding. I’ll tell them after their honeymoon.” Kara said.
“I grabbed a thumb drive with all the information on how we are treating it in case you need it. She has an emergency seizure med and some pain meds with her at all times.” Alex said.
“I’m sorry that you are dealing with this. Trust me, you won’t be ruining Barry and Iris’s wedding if you tell them, but I’ll keep it a secret for you. Can I give you a hug?” Caitlin asked.
Kara immediately hugged Caitlin. “The answer to that with Kara will never be no. She loves hugs. She has both tonic-clonic seizures and absence seizures. She has absence seizures multiple times a day, but if she keeps her pain under control and her stress levels low, she should be able to avoid a tonic-clonic seizure.” Alex said.
“Thanks for keeping this a secret for me. I appreciate it. I know its a big secret to keep.” Kara said.
“Of course. I’m going to warn you, the calorie bars are gross, but they shouldn’t be hard on your stomach. There’s about 2,000 calories in each bar.” Caitlin said. “I’ll go grab some for you.”
Caitlin left the room and Alex turned to Kara. “See, that wasn’t so bad. Why is it so hard for you to accept help?” She asked.
“Because I shouldn’t need it. I was sent to Earth to help Kal, and when I couldn’t, I helped the world by being Supergirl. I shouldn’t need the help.” Kara said, sobbing.
“It’s ok for you to accept help. You’ve helped everyone out, now it’s our turn to help you out.” Alex said as she hugged Kara.
“Hey, Caitlin sent me down with the-,” Cisco trailed off as he saw Kara sobbing in Alex’s arms. “Are you ok? What’s going on?” He asked.
“I’m fine.” Kara said as she wiped her eyes. “Just dealing with some stuff. Thanks.” Kara said as she took the calorie bars from Cisco.
Cisco suddenly had a vision. “Dude, why am I seeing you puking? I thought Supergirl couldn’t get sick?” He asked.
“Oh, you are probably just seeing when I solar flared.” Kara lied.
“No I’m not.” Cisco said. “I’m seeing it multiple different times. I know something is going on, something you talked to Caitlin about. Wait, are you pregnant?” He asked, getting very excited.
“I wish.” Kara said. “Just drop it, please. I’m fine.”
“Fine.” Cisco said, clearly unhappy. “When will you tell me then?” He asked.
“After the wedding.” Kara said.
“Oh hey guys, glad to see you are still here. Wanted to say bye before you left.” Caitlin said. “Cisco, I thought I told you to just drop off the calorie bars?” She questioned.
“I’m just leaving.” Cisco said.
“Now that he’s gone, I just wanted to tell you that I will make sure I have anything you need in case of an emergency. Also, Felicity, You, Lena, and Sara will all be staying at Joes house in the living room. It’s not great, but there’s not many other options. I just wanted to let you know.” Caitlin said.
“That’s fine with me.” Kara said. “Thanks for letting me know. Now, we should probably head back before Lena gets worried.”
“Of course. See you soon. I hope you have a good couple next weeks.” Caitlin said as she hugged them goodbye.
They finally headed home where Lena was waiting for them. “Did it go ok?” She asked.
“Yes we got the Calorie bars and Caitlin was very understanding. Cisco knows something is going on, but we didn’t explain.” Kara said.
“He’s an adult, he can drop it.” Alex said. “I’m sure Caitlin can handle him if needed.
“I’m tired from all that, can we head home and take a nap?” Kara asked Lena.
“Sure, let's get going. Lucy had to deal with something, but she said to tell you bye.” Lena said.
Chapter Text
“You ready for everyone to come over? They’ll be here sometime in the next 5 minutes.” Lena asked. “You’ve taken your meds right?”
“Yes, I’m ready.” Kara responded. “I’m going to go set the dinner table real quick.”
“No, you can stay seated. I’ll set the table.” Lena responded.
“Oh come on Lena, I have cancer, but that doesn’t mean that I can’t help out around the apartment!” Kara yelled, sick of people treating her like she couldn’t do anything and making decisions for her.
Suddenly there were knocks on the door. “Hey guys, come in. How much did you hear?” She asked Eliza, Lois, and Clark.
“Enough. What do you mean you have cancer?” Eliza asked. “And why am I just now finding out?”
“Wait, how did you even get cancer?” Lois asked.
“I don’t know. The same way as anyone else? I only found out myself three weeks ago. I didn’t want to worry you.” Kara said.
Alex and Maggie arrived on the tail end of the conversation. “Hey guys, how’s it-” Maggie trailed off, seeing the looks on everyone’s faces.
“Well, Kara just told us she has cancer, so not great.” Eliza said. “Why didn’t you tell me?” She asked.
“She asked me not to tell you. We all only found out two weeks ago after Kara had a medical episode at work. She was going to keep it hidden otherwise for god knows how long.” Alex said.
“How about we all sit down at the dinner table, and then we can finish this conversation. I made lasagna.” Lena said.
Everyone made their way to the dinner table. Lois spoke up first. “What type? And how long will it take to treat?”
Kara, Lena, Maggie, and Alex all winced at the last part. “Why do you all look like that?” Eliza asked, scared of the answer.
“It’s terminal Eliza. I have two years. It’s brain cancer.” Kara said, causing the mood at the table to be even darker than it already was and for Eliza, Clark and Lois to all start crying. “But I am going to make the best of what’s left.”
“We actually went to the zoo last weekend, that was fun.” Lena said. “Apparently, Kara is very well known there and visits very frequently.” She added.
“Wait two years?” Eliza said. “You are telling me that there isn’t any better treatment?”
“Well, there is, but Kara refuses to try.” Alex said, glaring at her sister.
“Well maybe, I don’t want to be in a fuck-ton of pain to go through a treatment that only has a 25% chance of recovery!” Kara yelled. “I’d rather spend my last few months enjoying life than being in a ton of pain.” She added.
“Alex, you don’t see the effects of the chemo as much as I do. Kara is already feeling the side-effects. If this treatment is any harsher, I completely understand why she doesn’t want to try.” Lena said.
“You should come to the Fortress. It might have some treatment protocols.” Clark said, speaking for the first time since the reveal.
“I got diagnosed at my Sanctuary, which is a better version of the Fortress.” Kara said. “Look, we all just have to accept it. I am going to die. And that’s ok. I’ll get to finally rejoin my parents in Rao’s light. It just came a little sooner than we were all expecting.”
“Well, I am glad you made your peace with it. Is this why Supergirl hasn’t been in the news lately?” Lois asked.
“Yeah, nobody will let me go out right now.” Kara said, while picking at her food. “Anyways, in happier news, I am moving in with Lena tomorrow! All of our friends are helping us move.”
“That’s great honey.” Eliza said.
“Wait, were you two not already living together?” Lois asked.
“Basically.” Alex said, causing everyone to laugh. “It’s more that they are moving all of their stuff to Lena’s apartment.”
“You need my help with anything?” Clark asked.
“No, we’ve got it. We packed all throughout last week.” Lena said. Kara suddenly ran out. “Alex, can you go make sure she’s ok? I want to talk to everyone while she’s gone.”
“Sure.” Alex agreed, knowing what Lena was going to talk about.
“Is she ok?” Eliza asked.
“It’s nausea. She’s tried some different meds, but nothing has really seemed to help.” Lena said.
“I can come help out. I might have some ideas.” Eliza said.
“What did you need to talk to us about privately?” Lois asked.
“Not necessarily you or Maggie, but Eliza and Clark. I want to ask for your blessing to propose to Kara.” Lena said nervously.
“Of course you do sweetheart.” Eliza said. “I see how happy you make her.”
Lois had to elbow Clark to respond. “Yes. I can officiate the Kryptonian side of her wedding. You will let her have a Kryptonian ceremony right?” He asked.
“Of course. Alex already told me about the bracelets. I actually already have them.” Lena said.
“When are you planning on popping the question?” Maggie asked.
“Not sure yet. I was going to have you and Alex help me.” Lena said.
“How has Kara been handling all of this?” Eliza asked.
“She keeps trying to insist she’s fine, even when she clearly isn’t. She is still trying to work, even though she’s been really sick.” Lena said.
“That sounds like Clark as well. He will insist he’s fine after he has solar flared, even when he has a broken bone.” Lois said. “My personal favorite trick to get him to care for himself is to sic Martha on him.”
“I’m not that bad.” Clark said, which caused Lois to glare at him. “Ok, fine, maybe I am.” He quickly agreed.
“Cat Grant literally came to our girls' night just so she could get us all to convince Kara to stop being Supergirl.” Maggie added.
“Wait, Cat Grant knows Kara is Supergirl?” Clark said.
“Of course she does, she’s Cat.” Lois said, rolling her eyes. “I didn’t know she was capable of caring.”
“Oh she cares about Kara, for whatever reason.” Maggie said. “You should have seen how frustrated she was that Kara wouldn’t listen to her.”
“Listen to who?” Kara said, having returned from the bathroom with Alex.
“Cat when she told you you needed to stop being Supergirl.” Lena said.
“Cause I’d be fine being out as Supergirl.” Kara said, causing Lena to face palm.
“No you wouldn’t.” The whole table said in unison.
“I thought we talked about this Kara. It is ok for you to accept help.” Alex said.
“Whatever. Anything new in your life?” Kara asked Clark and Lois.
“No, not really.” Lois said. “How did you two get together anyways? I know that you’ve known each other for a while, but it took you a while to start dating. What finally gave you that push?” She asked.
“It’s a long story involving fifth dimensional imps, another earth, and my friend. Wanna hear?” Kara asked.
“Can you never get together normally or have any normal friends? Also, another earth?” Clark asked.
“No, not really. Yeah, the multiverse exists. I actually have some friends on Earth-1 who I helped stop an alien invasion with last year.” Kara said.
“Wait, I thought the lead bomb stopped the daxamite invasion.” Clark said. “Why didn’t you introduce them to me or have us work together?” He asked.
“Oh no, their earth was being invaded by the dominators. We actually used a similar invention that caused pain to the dominators if they stayed on Earth.” Kara explained.
“And here I thought Clark dealt with the strangest things.” Lois said, shaking her head.
“You still haven’t told us the story.” Eliza said, curious.
“So this dude allowed himself to be arrested so he could get access to me and put me in a coma.” Kara said.
“Very freaky by the way, I sent Mon-El and J’onn to take her to Earth-1 because he said something about finding the fastest man alive and stole our extrapolator.” Alex added.
“Anyways, I woke up singing in a nightclub, and Barry was there too. When we started trying to figure out what was going on, Barry told me that the guy had done it to him as well and that Mon-El and J’onn had brought me to his earth. Why did you have Mon-El come with me anyways?” Kara asked.
“He was freaking out. He still cared about you even after you broke up with him.” Alex said.
“Why did you break up with him? He seemed nice.” Eliza said.
“He was the prince of Daxam, and he was an arrogant asshole who owned slaves. I heard a lot of stories about him when I was on Krypton.” Kara explained, causing everyone’s who didn’t know jaws to drop. “He redeemed himself, but he lied to me.”
“How did you even like this dude?” Lois asked.
“He was from the same solar system, so we understood each other’s loss very well. Plus, I didn’t have to worry about accidentally harming him. He was an asshole when I met him, but he got better over time, but only because he liked me.” Kara explained.
“You should have let me beat him up.” Clark said. “Or at least told me so I could threaten him if he hurt you by lying like that again.”
”So, back to the story. The dude who put me in a coma said he was doing it to teach Barry and I a lesson. He didn’t tell us what. So we had to sing and then we got kidnapped so we could find these two dads their daughter, and when we did, we found Lena and Iris, Barrys fiancé, kissing, which made us realize we were in love with them.” Kara said.
“Was that the moment you realized you liked women?” Maggie asked.
“You heard this story before. No, Kryptonians were a little more advanced and didn’t care about gender. Closest thing here is Pan.” Kara said.
“Wait, do that mean that Superman likes men too?” Maggie asked. “That would be so cool to have both superheroes be LGBTQ+.”
“Yes?” Clark said. “Never understood the big deal with how people are obsessed with sexuality. I dated Batman for a little while before Lois and I got together.”
“And now its funny seeing the two of them interact.” Lois interrupted. “They broke up because Bruce claimed that he had no room in his life for love, and then he adopted like 10 kids. No one even knows the full count.”
“Bruce Wayne is Batman?” Alex asked.
“And they dated?” Maggie added. “Why wasn’t that ever public?”
“Bruce is private, and I didn’t think the world needed to hear about my love life. Can you go back to the story?” Clark asked, having turned bright red from the conversation.
“So, We convinced them to tell their parents, who were leaders of rival mafias, and they agreed, and their parents pretended to be happy but were secretly planning to kill the other. We heard shots, ran to help out, got shot, almost died, and then came out of our comas when Lena kissed me and Barry kissed Iris.” Kara explained. “How did you get there and know to kiss me anyways?” She asked.
“J’onn came and got me when Music Meister said only love could save you. He had apparently accidentally overheard my thoughts, and seen how you interred with me, and decided that I was your love.” Lena said. “Still don’t like that, that was how I found out you were Supergirl.” She added.
“There is so much going on with that story.” Lois said.
“You almost died and didn’t tell me?” Eliza asked.
“I lived so I didn’t see the big deal.” Kara answered. “Also, I was planning to tell you I was Supergirl literally that night as I saw the hypocrisy if I got mad at Mon-El for keeping that a secret, but hid that I was Supergirl from you.”
“I thought you said you didn’t start dating until after this all happened. Yet you had a date planned for that night?” Lois asked, confused.
“Those two idiots dated before they even admitted they were into each other. There was even a betting pool at CatCo and the DEO. Everyone saw it but those two idiots.” Alex said.
“In my defense, I thought she was straight.” Lena said.
“I talked about girls with you multiple times. Did I not tell you about my high school girlfriend?” Kara asked.
“No, never.” Lena said.
“You dated in high school and hid it from me?” Eliza asked.
“You were very overprotective and I also did not want the sex talk from you. I just went to the Fortress instead.” Kara explained.
“That must be a kryptonian thing, because Clark did it too.” Lois was cackling by that point.
“Are family dinners always this chaotic?” Lena asked Kara who didn’t respond. “Hey Kara you there?” Lena asked, waving her hand in front of her face.
“What’s going on?” Clark asked, hearing what Lena was saying.
“Is it another absence seizure?” Alex asked.
“Yeah, I think so.” Lena said. “She’s ok, she’ll come back to reality in a minute.”
“Damn it, did it happen again?” Kara asked, noticing everyone was staring at her.
“Since when do you swear?” Lois asked.
“When I just came back from a seizure.” Kara said snarkily.
“You need some meds?” Lena asked.
“No, I can handle it.” Kara responded.
“You really don’t want to have another seizure do you? You know what Mia said, keeping the pain under control will help prevent a full on seizure.” Lena reminded Kara.
“Fine, maybe I could take something. I’ll go grab some meds.” Kara responded.
“Mia also said to stay seated for 5 minutes after an absence seizure so you don’t have a full on seizure and crash through the floor.” Lena said. “Alex, you go grab her meds. They are on the nightstand. Pink bottle.”
“What’s going on? And why are you talking about seizures?” Eliza asked.
“Did she not tell you about the seizures or the pain?” Alex asked.
“No she did not.” Eliza said, staring at Kara. “Why didn’t you tell us you were in pain?”
“Because I can handle it.” Kara said.
“She doesn’t want people feeling sorry for her.” Lena answered.
“Hey!” Kara exclaimed.
“Well it’s true.” Lena said.
Kara yawned. “I’m going to go grab a hoodie from my room. I’ll be back.”
“No, let Alex grab that for you.” Lena said, motioning to Alex who had returned.
“Looks like I am your personal errand girl today. Here you go.” Alex said, smiling as she handed the pills to Kara who washed them down with water.
“I’ll be good now.” Kara said.
“What’s your plan for explaining your absence?” Clark asked.
“I was thinking of faking my death or something. It’s kinda true anyway.” Kara said.
“Why don’t we just say that you are off-world and we don’t know when or if you will return?” Clark offered. “That way if you somehow recover, you can go back to being Supergirl if you want.”
“I like that better.” Kara said.
Maggie sensed that the mood in the room was getting dark, so she started talking about the dumb rookie she had to train, and then everyone started telling funny stories until Lena told people it was time to leave because Kara was getting tired, which she tried to protest as she was half asleep.
“Bye Kara. I have a really important press conference to attend, but once that is done, I promise I’ll come by and we can hang out for the weekend.” Clark said.
“I’ll see you soon hopefully.” Lois said.
“I was planning on staying in town for a few days anyways, so I’m going to go the DEO and see if I have any ideas for your treatment.” Eliza said. Everyone hugged Kara before leaving, and once they were gone, Kara fell sound asleep.
Chapter Text
“Kara, time to wake up. Here are your meds and some water.” Lena said.
“What time is it?” Kara groaned.
“It’s 6 AM, your appointment is in an hour. If you want, we can change it later, but it has to be at the same time every day.” Lena said. “It’s probably time for you to start changing your work schedule, maybe consider even switching to part time?”
“I’m fine, just tired. Wait, where am I?” Kara asked.
“You’re at our apartment. Remember, you moved in on Sunday?” Lena asked, growing concerned.
“Oh yeah, I remember now.” Kara said. “I’m just tired.” Kara started getting up and ready.
“What are you going to eat for breakfast?” Lena asked.
“I’m not hungry, so just a calorie bar.” She responded.
Later, at work. “Here is my article.” Kara handed it to Snapper while getting ready to leave for the day.
“You already turned this in Blondie. Remember?” Snapper asked.
“Oh whoops, I did huh.” Kara stammered out.
“What’s going on with you anyways? You are always sleeping at lunch, you aren’t going out to eat with anyone anymore and since Miss Grant returned, she’s been checking on you.” Snapper questioned.
“Nothing, I’m fine. Just been a little stressed. Family stuff.” Kara lied.
“Well, figure it out, because it’s messing with your work.” Snapper responded.
“I’m working on it.” Kara said before heading back to her desk.
“What was that all about?” Nia asked.
“I turned in an article, and Snapper decided to question me about what is going on with me.” Kara responded.
“Why don’t you just tell everyone?” Nia asked.
“They don’t need to know. They’d just pity me. Lena’s already saying I should switch to part time and Eliza is bugging me about how early my chemo appointment is.” Kara answered.
“You’re going to chemo?” Emily, her coworker who’d been listening in on the conversation.
“Damn it, did no one tell you it's rude to eavesdrop?” Kara asked. “It’s really none of your business.”
“Did you just swear?” Emily asked. “Dude, everyone is worried about you. Multiple people think you have an eating disorder. Wouldn’t it be easier to just tell everyone?”
“Sure, but then I get a ton of questions that I don’t really want to answer. Besides, I get enough pity. Just keep this quiet.” Kara pleaded.
“No, you should tell everyone. Or I will.” Emily said.
“It’s no one’s business who I tell if I have cancer!” Kara yelled. Everyone looked at her. “Fuck.”
“You have cancer?” William, another coworker asked as everyone gathered around her desk.
“Yes. Please don’t make a big deal out of this.” Kara asked. “That goes for all of you.”
“What type?” Someone asked.
“Is it curable?” Another person asked.
“Brain cancer. No. It’s terminal. Is that all?” Kara asked, getting very frustrated. Everyone started talking all at once.
Cat had seen the commotion and heard what was going on. “Everyone leave her alone. Do none of you know the meaning of privacy or respecting someone’s boundaries?” Cat asked. “I don’t pay you all to sit around and gossip.” She said.
Everyone finally left her alone. “Thank you Miss Grant.” Kara said.
“Friggin vultures, all of them. It was nothing.” Cat said before heading back to her desk.
“You ok?” Nia asked. “I know that was a lot.”
“Yeah, I’m fine. Just need to go head out to interview Ted Kord for an article I am writing.” Kara said.
“I thought that interview was last week?” Nia questioned.
“I went with you and took some photos. You good?” James asked.
“Yeah, must have mixed it up with something else.” Kara quickly answered. “You guys ready for karaoke tonight?” She asked.
“You know it!” Nia said, excited for what was going to happen later that night.
“Yes I am.” James said.
“I’m heading home, my ride is here.” Kara said.
“See you in a bit.” James said.
“I’ll be there.” Nia said.
“Honey, I’m home!” Lena announced. “You ready for Karaoke tonight?”
“Oh, Karaoke is tonight?” Kara asked.
“Yes, Nia and James said they talked to you about it tonight. Are you forgetting stuff?” Lena gently asked.
“No, no, it must have slipped my mind. I was trying to find a dress online that’ll cover up the PICC line for Barry and Iris’s wedding.” Kara lied.
“We need to leave soon. Have you eaten anything? And wear something nice, James wants to take photos tonight.” Lena asked, knowing the answer would be no.
“I’ll have a calorie bar on the way. Give me five minutes, and I will be ready. Ok, I have the perfect shirt and pants.” Kara said. Thanks to her superspeed, she finished in 3.
“I thought we agreed you wouldn’t use your powers. And you should try to eat more than a calorie bar.” Lena said.
“Fine, I’ll have some saltines I guess. And we agreed I wouldn’t be Supergirl, not that I wouldn’t use any of my powers. Besides, I didn’t push myself.” Kara said.
“Fine, just be careful.” Lena said. “You can eat on the way, Frank is here.”
They got to Al’s bar, where everyone was waiting. Lucy made sure she could come tonight, along with J’onn. Everyone was all dressed nicely, which Kara just put up to wanting to look nice for the photos.
“You ready to sing?” Nia asked?
“Of course I am.” Kara said.
“What are you going to sing?” Winn asked.
“You’ll see.” Kara responded.
“Next up, Kara singing My Love, Mine all mine.” The DJ said.
“Before I start, I just want to say this is for my amazing girlfriend, Lena.” Kara said. The music started and Kara looked straight at Lena.
“Moon, a hole of light
Through the big top tent up high
Here before and after me
Shinin' down on me
Moon, tell me if I could
Send up my heart to you?
So, when I die, which I must do
Could it shine down here with you?” Kara sang with so much emotion, everyone there started tearing up. Lena started sobbing.
“'Cause my love is mine, all mine
My love mine, mine, mine
Nothing in the world belongs to me
But my love, mine, all mine, all mine
My baby here on Earth
Showed me what my heart was worth
So when it comes to be my turn
Could you shine it down here for her?” Kara sang, pouring out all her love into the song.
“'Cause my love is mine, all mine
My love mine, mine, mine
Nothing in the world belongs to me
But my love, mine, all mine
Nothing in the world is mine for free
But my love, mine, all mine, all mine” Kara finished and gave the microphone back before heading to Lena.
“I’m sorry I am going to have to leave you. But I want you to know, I love you.” She said.
“I love you too darling. Any time I have with you is better than none.” Lena said, still crying. “It’s a good thing I wore waterproof mascara.” She added.
“Any of you going to sing?” Kara asked.
“How could any of us follow a performance like that?” Winn asked.
“I don’t sing.” Lucy said.
J’onn, Alex, James, and Maggie all shook their heads no, knowing what was going to happen next.
“I’m up next.” Lena responded.
“Up next, Lena, singing a surprise song.” The DJ announced. James started recording.
“It's always been about me, myself, and I
I thought relationships were nothing but a waste of time” Lena sang.
“I never wanted to be anybody's other half
I was happy saying I had a love that wouldn't last
That was the only way I knew 'til I met you
You make me wanna say
I do, I do, I do, do-do-do-do-do-do-do
Yeah, I do, I do, I do, do-do-do-do-do-do-do” Kara sat there, shocked.
“'Cause every time before it's been like maybe yes and maybe no
I can live without it, I can let it go
Ooh, what did I get myself into?
You make me wanna say
I do, I do, I do, I do, I do, I do” Lena continued.
“Tell me, is it only me
Do you feel the same?” Kara yelled out “Yes!”
“You know me well enough to know that I'm not playing games
I promise I won't turn around and I won't let you down
You can trust I've never felt it like I feel it now
Baby, there's nothing, there's nothing we can't get through
So can we say
I do, I do, I do, do-do-do-do-do-do-do
Oh, baby, I do, I do, I do, do-do-do-do-do-do-do
'Cause every time before it's been like maybe yes and maybe no” Lena started going to Kara.
“I won't live without it, I won't let it go
What more can I get myself into?
You make me wanna say
Meet my family, how's your family?
Ooh, can we be a family?
And when I'm 80 years old and I'm sitting next to you
And we'll remember when we said
I do, I do, I do, do-do-do-do-do-do-do
Oh, baby, I do, I do, I do, do-do-do-do-do-do-do
'Cause every time before it's been like maybe yes and maybe no
No, I won't live without it, I won't let us go
Just look at what we got ourselves into
You make me wanna say
I do, I do, I do, I do, I do, I do
Love you” Lena finished, right next to Kara.
Lena bent down on one knee and pulled out a ring, much to Kara’s shock. “I love you and I feel like we are meant to be. I love you so much words cannot even begin to express how in love with you I am. I want to spend whatever time I can with you. Will you make me the happiest woman in the world and marry me?” She asked.
“Yes, yes, yes!” Kara yelled. Lena slid the ring on her finger and held it up and everyone started clapping so loud.
“Congratulations Kara.” Alex said and gave them both big hugs.
“I am so happy for you.” J’onn said, wiping tears from his eyes.
“I got both songs all on camera for you.” James said. “And I am truly happy you have found someone who loves you.” He added.
“Congratulations Little Danvers. And Little Luthor. Are you guys going to get married before us?” Maggie joked.
“We might.” Lena said, completely serious. “I want to spend as much time with her as my wife as I can. I’d elope right now if I didn’t know how important having her family with her is to her.”
“Can I sing at your wedding?” Winn asked.
“We’ll see.” Was Lena’s response.
“Lois is going to be so jealous I was here and not her.” Lucy said, causing everyone to crack up.
“Here, on the house. Some Aldebaran rum for you to celebrate.” M’gann said.
“Oh, I’m actually not supposed to drink right now.” Kara said.
“What’s going on?” She asked.
“I’ll tell you a different time. Let’s just enjoy the night!” She said.
Everyone else did some karoke songs before Kara got tired and headed home with Lena. “You have fun?” Lena asked.
“Um, Have fun?” Kara questioned. “That was probably the best night of my life! I am now engaged to the love of my life and I got to hang out with my friends all night. Want to celebrate?” She asked, wiggling her eyebrows.
“You are really not good at subtleties.” Lena chuckled. “Of course. Let me get into something slightly more suitable, and you can do the same.”
When Lena came back, Kara was ready and they made love all night until morning when they were ready to announce their engagement.
Chapter 8
Notes:
Just a warning this is a long and kinda stressful chapter
Chapter Text
Lena woke up to the sound of Kara in the kitchen and walked out to see what was going on. “Hey Kara, what are you doing?” She asked.
“I’m making breakfast. Chocolate chip pancakes sound really nice. Also, Cat called. She wants an interview with us.” Kara said.
“She already found out?” Lena asked. “How?”
“Multiple people posted that video of you proposing last night.” Kara explained and turned around.
“Um, you have something on your neck. You might want to wipe that lipstick off.” Lena said.
“Huh, I took a shower earlier.” Kara grabbed a washcloth to try to wipe it off. “Why isn’t it coming off?” She asked.
“I think its a hickey.” Lena said.
“How? I shouldn’t be able to get hickeys.” Kara pulled out a knife and tested it on her skin. “At least my skin is still invulnerable.”
“That was so stupid!” Lena said. “I don’t know, we’ll have to ask during your chemotherapy. You take your meds yet?” She asked.
“I am not asking my sister about this. Yes, I took them when I woke up.” Kara said.
“How’s your pain today?” Lena asked.
“Maybe a 5. Better today than it was yesterday.” Kara said.
“You need to tell me when the pain is bad so I can help you or we can get some better pain meds.” Lena scolded Kara.
“I can handle the pain.” Kara said.
“Even if you can handle the pain, I don’t like you being in pain.” Lena said.
Kara flipped some pancakes onto her plate. “You want any?” She asked.
“Sure I’ll have one. I’m glad your nausea is doing better, at least to the point where you feel good enough to eat something.” Lena smiled.
“Yeah, I took my anti-nausea meds as soon as I woke up and that helped.” Kara said.
“Good to know.” Lena said. After they were done eating, Lena asked “You ready to go now? You might want to add a scarf or something to hide the hickey.”
Kara ran and swapped her shirt for a turtleneck. “Now I am.”
“Let’s go. And we will be letting Mia know, even if we don’t let Alex know.” Lena said.
“So,” Mia said as she was setting up the IV, “Any other symptoms I should know about, or anything I should know?”
“Kara felt good enough to make and eat some Chocolate Chip Pancakes. And she was up before me. But also, she has something to show you.” Lena said.
Kara glared at Lena before pulling her turtleneck down. “She gave me a hickey last night. She hasn’t been able to do this before, no matter how hard she tried.” She said, turning bright red.
“Interesting, looks like you are starting to develop anemia. Does your cousin have the same blood type as you?” Mia asked. “We don’t need to give you a blood transfusion, but I need to know so I can start making preparations for if you need one.”
“He does.” Kara said. “Sanctuary can also make blood for me if I need a transfusion. Lena can get there.” She added.
“That’s good to know. How has your sleep been?” Mia asked.
Kara looked away. “Not that great. I woke up from pain today around 4 AM.” Kara said, avoiding eye contact with Lena.
“You need to wake me up when that happens. Even if I can’t do anything to help, I can sit with you and watch tv with you or do something to distract you from the pain.”
“I just wanted you to get a good nights sleep.”
“I am your fiancé. And soon to be your wife. I am going to be there for you, no matter what, all time.”
“I just don’t want to be a burden.”
“You will never be a burden to me. You are the love of my life.” Lena kissed Kara.
“I love you too.”
“Now, let me take care of you for a change. You’ve looked out for me for the past turn, its my turn to do the same for you.”
“Ok.”
“I am going to work on formulating a stronger pain med. Did you have any seizures yesterday?” Mia asked.
“She had an absence seizure during lunch, but no full body seizures.” Lena replied.
“I was just wondering earlier this morning, if I feel a seizure coming on, can I pre-emptively give myself my anti-seizure shot?” Kara asked.
“Yes, but still let me know.” Mia responded.
“Thanks.” Kara said, as Lena wrote it down.
“Now, I am going to leave you be and I’ll be back when your IV is done.” Mia said. “I’d reccomend you get some sleep, I hear you have a big day today. Congrats on your engagement by the way.” Mia added on her way out the room.
Kara immediately fell asleep once Lena turned the lights down. Alex came in and motioned for Lena to talk to her out in the hall. “How’s she doing?” She asked.
“She apparently woke up at 4 AM and didn’t tell me. She’s also becoming anemic.” Lena said.
“Why’d she wake up so early?”
“Pain. Mia’s working on a stronger pain med.”
Suddenly Lena heard crying coming from the med-bay and she and Alex ran inside. “What’s going on Kara?” She asked.
“It hurts so bad. And I feel like I can’t breathe.” She barely managed to say through the tears.
“Lena, go get Mia and see if she can give her some pain meds. Kara, try to take some deep breaths.” Alex said, pulling out a pulse oximeter. “I’m going to put this on your finger so I can see how much oxygen you have.”
Lena came back in the room with Mia. “When’s the last time you took anything?” She asked.
“At 4 AM. I can’t take anything for another hour.”
“No, you can. I am starting you on some stronger meds.” Mia said. “What are her oxygen sats?” She asked Alex.
“Only 80%.” Alex said. “I’m going to put her on some oxygen. I don’t know if we can put her on pain meds, that might make it worse.
“Hey Kara, I’m right here with you.” Lena said, noticing how distressed she was. “Hold my hand and focus on my heartbeat.”
“It hurts.” She cried.
“I know baby, but they need to make sure you can breathe first. You want me to see if J’onn can get Eliza to come here?” Lena asked.
“No, I want you.” Kara said.
Alex had put the oxygen mask on. “We need to get her a blood transfusion. Should I call Superman in?” She asked.
“Yes.” Mia said. “Her oxygen sats are at 85% now, but that is with the oxygen.”
“I have the interview with Cat today. Can I leave soon? I’m feeling better.” Kara said, still crying.
“You are in the middle of a medical emergency. She will understand. You are still in pain, don’t even try to pretend you aren’t.” Lena said. “I can call her now if you want. I also need to call Sam and let her know what’s going on so she can handle everything for me today.”
“Ok.” Kara said weakly.
“Lena, you can go step in the hall and take those calls. Can you see if Winn, Lucy or J’onn can come in and sit with Kara?” Alex asked.
“Yes, I will.” Lena stepped out in the hall where J’onn, Lucy, and Winn were all standing.
“Why are you all here? Actually, it doesn’t matter. Can one of you go sit with Kara? I have to make some calls.” Lena said.
“What’s going on?” Lucy asked.
“Her red blood count is low, and so she is in a lot of pain and on oxygen. She wants me to call Cat so I can let her know that we cannot make it to the interview.” Lena said. “Only one of you should head in there with her, or you might overwhelm her. Which one of you won’t freak out immediately and just make it worse?” She asked.
“I can.” Lucy said confidently. “I’ve had to do this with many of my friends in the army. What does she need me to do?”
“Just sit with her and try to keep her distracted from everything. Warning, they can’t give her any pain meds because it risks her oxygen levels dropping even lower so she is in a lot of pain.”
“I’d go in there with her, but I’d probably make it worse.” Winn said as Alex left the room.
“I’m calling Superman in for a blood transfusion. J’onn, can you go get Eliza? I think she might be able to help us.” Alex explained.
J’onn immediately left for Midvale and Alex went back into the medbay. Lena pulled out her phone. Her first call was to Cat.
“Hello Lena, what is this call about?” She asked.
“We cannot make it to the interview. Kara is having a medical emergency. She insisted I call you to let you know.”
“She’s too stubborn for her own good. Let her know I hope she feels better.” Cat said with a level of concern in her voice Lena had never heard before. “Let me know when she is doing better and I can visit her.”
“I will.” Lena ended the call. “Now, Sam next.” She said, thinking out loud.
“Hey Lena. Why are you calling me at 7:30 AM? Shouldn’t you be with Kara right now?” Sam questioned.
“I need you to cover for me at L-Corp today.”
“What’s going on? Is Kara ok?”
“Her red blood count has dropped really low, so she is going to need a blood transfusion and she’s on oxygen right now. I’ll explain more later.”
“I hope she’s ok. Congrats on the engagement.” Sam said before hanging up the phone right as Superman landed in the DEO and J’onn returned with Eliza.
“Where is she? Is she ok?” Clark demanded to know.
“How can I help?” Eliza asked, trying not to panic.
“She’s in the med-bay right now. Here, follow me.” Lena said as she went into the Med-Bay.
“Superman, sit here. Can you roll up your sleeve?” Mia asked and Superman immediately did so. “We have some needles that can go through your skin. They have red-sunlight attached somehow so they can get through your skin. I’m going to do a person-to-person transfusion. Is that ok?”
“Of course, anything. So she is ok.” Clark responded.
“You guys came for me?” Kara asked.
“Of course we did sweetheart. I’m going to head to the lab with Alex to see if I can do anything to help.” Eliza said.
“Yes.” Clark said.
“You want a warm blanket?” Alex asked. “I can have someone bring you one.”
“That would be great thanks.” Kara said.
“How is your pain?” Mia asked as she was starting the transfusion.
“An 8.” Kara said.
“I’m really sorry, but we can’t give you any pain meds until your oxygen saturations are back up to at least 90%.” Mia said.
Agent Vasquez came in and dropped off some warm blankets and Lena immediately spread them over Kara. “Better?” She asked.”
“It would be better if I wasn’t in this stupidly uncomfortable outfit.” Kara answered.
“I can go get a DEO set of sweatpants and sweatshirt if you’d like.” Lucy offered.
“That would be great, thanks.”
“Grab some shears while you are at it. And a gown probably. I want easier access to Kara’s arms, so Kara, you’ll probably need to wear a gown. You can still wear sweatpants though.” Mia said.
“I don’t need to wear a stupid gown.” Kara complained.
“It’s just for the day.” Mia said.
“Fine.” Kara gave in, too tired to fight.
Lucy came back with everything. “Superman, turn around and we will help get Kara into these.” She said.
“I can do it myself.” Kara said, and then failed at removing her pants. “Ok, maybe I’m a little tired.”
“I got it.” Lena said and helped Kara remove her clothes and get into the sweatpants and gown with Lucy’s help.
“Thanks guys.” Kara said.
“It’s safe to turn back now Superman.” Lena said.”
“Is that a hickey?” He asked. “You gave my cousin a hickey Lena?”
“I haven’t been able to do it before.” Lena quickly said.
“It’s actually how we first knew she was becoming anemic.” Mia said. “Looks like the transfusion is done. Thanks for the help Superman.” She added as she started removing all the supplies from the transfusion. “I’d recommend staying seated for the next 15 minutes. That way you don’t pass out.”
“I wasn’t planning on leaving anyways. I’m staying until I know she is ok.” Clark said.
Eliza came back in the room with Alex. “We have some stronger pain meds now that your oxygen saturations are high enough, and we also have a new med that should hopefully prevent this from happening again.”
“So, now that my oxygen levels are high enough, can I go home?” Kara asked.
“No, we want to keep you until next morning. We need to make sure it is safe to remove the oxygen mask and also observe your sleep to make sure everything is ok.” Alex said.
“But I have Barry and Iris’s wedding to go to next week, and I still haven’t even bought a dress or the gift, or gotten stuff wrapped up at work, or packed!” Kara started panicking.
“I’ll handle the gift and pack.” Lena said.
“Barry wants you to sing at his wedding, so Iris bought you a dress that’ll match the bridesmaids colors.” Alex said.
“You can call Cat in a bit and I am sure she will be willing to help.” Lena said. “She seemed very concerned when I called her earlier.”
“But first, you need to get some sleep.” Eliza said. “We can leave you be and turn off the lights.”
“I’ll stay with you though.” Lena said, but before she finished, Kara was already asleep. Kara slept for 8 hours before waking up.
“What time is it?” She asked.
“It’s 5 PM.” Lena said. “Alex came in a couple hours ago and removed the oxygen and gave you some IV fluids and pain meds. You feeling any better?” She asked.
“I’m feeling a lot better. Can I have my phone so I can call Cat?”
“Here you go. Fair warning, Cat’s probably going to want to come visit.” Lena said as. she handed the phone to Kara.
“Hello Kara, I heard what is going on. Are you feeling better? Can I stop by your apartment and visit you?” Cat asked when she picked up the phone.
“Yes I am. They are keeping me overnight, so I don’t think I can have any visitors here.” Kara said.
“I know where the DEO is. I’m coming.” Cat answered before she hung up.
“Cat is on her way.” Kara said. “Can you get Alex and let her know?”
“Lena already texted me and told me you were awake. Why is Cat coming here? And how does she know where the DEO is located?” Alex questioned.
“She’s Cat Grant, she knows everything.” Lena answered. “And she seems to be weirdly concerned about Kara.”
“Can I put on a hoodie now? Or at least a tshirt? Now that I’m doing better?” Kara asked.
“A tshirt. I want access to your arms so if needed we can give you meds through your PICC line.” Alex responded.
“I have some clothes for you Kara. Here you go.” Lena said as she grabbed a bag from next to her chair.
“When did you get these?” Kara asked.
“I went back to our apartment a couple hours ago.” Lena explained.
“I had to force her to leave.” Alex added.
Kara had just finished getting changed when Cat arrived. “What happened?” She demanded to know.
“Apparently my red blood count got too low. I’m fine now, no big deal.” Kara said. “Everyone is making a big deal out of this.”
“Your oxygen sats were at 80% and you were in severe pain. Your cousin had to fly out so you could get a blood transfusion. It was serious.” Alex said, turning to Cat. “Don’t trust what she say, she downplays everything.”
“That is serious.” Cat said. “You need to take care of yourself.” She scolded Kara.
“I’ll be fine.” Kara said. “Anyways, why don’t we do the interview here?” She offered.
“You need to rest.” Cat said.
“No, I just slept for like 9 hours. I can handle a conversation. Besides, I promised you an interview.” Kara said.
“If you promise you are fine. Lena, you good with this interview happening now?” Cat asked.
“She’ll bug me if I don’t let her, so yes.” Lena said.
“First question, why did you choose yesterday night to propose?” She asked Lena. “And specifically choosing to propose through song? Is there a special meaning to that?”
“Yes actually.” Lena smiled. “A musical was how we realized we were in love with each other. And she and I love to sing. We’ve had a few dance parties at home. We should have one soon.” She added, looking at Kara for the last time.
“When are you planning on having the wedding?”
“We haven’t had much chance to talk.” Kara said.
“But very soon.” Lena said. “I want to spend as much time with her as my wife as I can.”
“Now, this next part is off the record. Do you want to talk about the cancer?” Cat asked.
“Yes.” Kara said. “Everyone important already knows.”
“These questions may be hard, so if either of you need a break, let me know. Also, I already know the answer to most of these questions, but I have to ask them anyways.” Cat said. “How long ago did you find out you had cancer?”
“A month ago.” Kara said.
“What type of cancer? And are you expected to recover?”
“Brain cancer. No. It’s terminal. I have two years with my current treatment.”
“Did the cancer change anything for you when you found out?” Cat asked Lena.
“I was upset at first, but I’ve decided I am going to make her have the best next two years I can.” Lena said.
“Did this change your proposal timeline?”
“Only by two months. I was already planning to propose.” Lena answered.
“How did you feel when Lena proposed? Were you surprised?” Cat asked.
“I was overjoyed. I wasn’t that surprised because we’d talked about marriage in the past and I mentioned that I had thought about before I got cancer. I didn’t think I’d get the chance but then Lena proposed.” Kara answered.
“You were both not seen in public today. Why is that?” Cat asked.
“Due to the chemotherapy, her red blood cell count dropped really low and she had a medical crisis. She had to get a blood transfusion and be on oxygen for a little while. She’s spending the night in the hospital for monitoring.”
“Just one more question. Do you two make each other happy?” Cat asked, knowing the answer.
“Yes.” They both said immediately as they smiled at each other.
“We are done. Congratulations on the engagement. I am sorry that you had a lovely night followed by such a painful day.” Cat said before giving Kara a hug and leaving.
Once Cat was gone, everyone came in the room.
“You feeling better now Kara?” Clark asked.
“Yes I am. Thanks for the blood. You should know though, Sanctuary can make blood for me and I am assuming the Fortress can too.”
“You should take me to this Sanctuary soon. I’d like to see it.” Clark said.
“I will sometime soon. Or have Lena portal you into it.”
“She has portals?” Clark asked.
“Only good thing my brother made.” Lena explained.
“I gotta head back to Lois. I’ll let her know you are ok. She was worried.”
“Of course. And come over here soon. I can show you around.” Kara said and gave Clark a hug before he left.
“You doing better now?” Lucy asked. “The pain any better?”
“Definitely a lot better. Pain has been lowered a ton.” Kara said. “Now, you should head home and get some sleep or something. You were here when I got here. In fact, all of you should probably head home soon. Wait, when did you two get here?” Kara asked, noticing James and Nia were there as well. Lucy left and J’onn came in.
“I overheard the call that Lena and Cat had, at least Cat’s side, and heard her say something about hoping you feel better, so I went and asked Nia if she knew anything.” James said.
“And then right as he asked that, I had a vision of you here in a lot of pain and James and I told Cat we were leaving for the day, which she accepted and we’ve been waiting here to make sure you were ok.” Nia said.
“Thank you guys for coming. You didn’t need to do that.” Kara said.
“We’re your friends. We care about you. Of course we were going to come and make sure you were ok.” Nia said.
“You’ve would’ve done the same for us if we were in this situation.” James added.
“Now, I’m going to head home and let you get some rest.” Nia said.
“I’m going to do the same.” James said. They both gave her hugs before leaving.
Eliza was now the only one left. “I am so glad you are feeling better. Now, I have a really important conference to go to tomorrow, but if you need me, say the word and I’ll have Clark or J’onn come bring me here.” Eliza said and gave Kara a hug before leaving.
“I am very glad to see you are doing better.” J’onn said. “I need to return to my duties as the director of the DEO so Lucy can head home.
“The superfriends are all here for you Kara. Don’t forget that.” Winn said.
“I told you, Superfriends is a stupid name.” Kara responded, causing Alex and Lena to laugh.
“Either way, we are all here for you. I need to head home and get some food, but we’ll hang out soon. Game night Friday?” He asked.
“Yes.” Kara said and gave Winn a hug.
“Now, you need to eat something.” Alex said once everyone left.
“How about some potstickers? And maybe some ice cream?” Kara said.
“Yes. You want anything Lena?” Alex asked.
“I’ll have some potstickers as well.” Lena answered.
“What ice cream flavor?” Alex asked.
“Mint chocolate chip. My favorite.” Kara said.
Alex got them their food. “So, Cat brought up a good point. When should we have the wedding?” Lena asked.
“I agree, I want to have it as soon as possible. It’ll probably be before Alex’s because their wedding isn’t for like another 2 years. I’d have it in a month if we could.” Kara said.
“I can make that happen. My friend Sam wants to meet you by the way. When should she?” Lena asked.
“How about tomorrow? We can have her over for dinner. She’s your friend right so she should be part of the wedding.”
“She’d love that. She’ll be my maid of honor. How about you?”
“I’ll have Alex be my maid of honor. I want a small wedding with just our friends and family, including my friends from Earth-1. That ok with you?”
“That sounds absolutely lovely. Especially seeing as how all my family is in prison.”
“Yeah, that sucks. How about you do the planning for the Earth ceremony and I do the Earth planning?” Kara proposed.
“I like that idea. I will still ask for your opinion on things. Who’s going to officiate the weddings? Just a priest or do you have someone in mind?” Lena asked.
“If you are ok with it, J’onn. He’s like a dad to me kinda.”
“He’d like that I’m sure.” They spent the rest of the night talking about their upcoming wedding until they fell asleep.
Chapter Text
“I sure hope you two only slept in this bed last night.” Alex said as she came in to wake Kara up for her morning appointment.
Lena had woken up by now. “Today that’s all we did.” She said suggestively, a smirk appearing on her face.
“It was just the once, don’t worry.” Kara added.
“In my work?” Alex yelled. “You did it in my work?”
“Don’t even act like you haven’t done it before.” Kara said.
“How do you even know that?” Alex asked as she turned bright red.
“Superhearing. Trust me, it was no picnic for me.” Kara said.
“Well, brushing past that, what do you guys have for food as I can’t exactly order food in here.” Lena said.
“I’ll get anything Kara wants.” Alex said.
“Just some toast.” Kara said.
“Here are your meds by the way.” Alex handed her the pills. “I can make that happen. What about you?” She asked Lena.
“I’ll just eat after we are done.” Lena said.
“I’ll get that for you Kara. Mia and I will be back in half an hour when you are ready. I’ll drop off the food in like 10 minutes. We want to talk to you about your current treatment and run some scans.”
“Is something bad happening?” Lena asked, worried.
“No, we are just checking some stuff after what happened yesterday. Don’t worry.” Alex reassured Lena.
Lena gave Kara some fresh clothes and then got changed herself. Alex knocked on the door. “Everyone decent?” She asked.
“Yes we are.” Kara called back.
Alex entered the room. “I’ll be back in 20 minutes with Mia.” She told them.
“So, you still want to do game night tomorrow?” Lena asked.
“Yeah, I should be fine. After what happened yesterday, I realize I probably need to file some paperwork with HR. Right now, I can handle working, but it made me realize I soon probably won’t be able to handle it, so I need to start preparing.” Kara said.
Lena let out a big sigh in her mind, glad Kara was finally coming to her senses. “That sounds like a good idea Darling.”
Kara finished her toast and they talked more about their wedding until Mia and Alex came back. “It’s been 3 ½ weeks of treatment, so we figured it was time to run some tests and see how the cancer is progressing.” Alex said.
“We are considering having you take a weeks break before we start the next round.” Mia added.
“That sounds great.” Lena said.
“We have to do another MRI. I know you don’t like them Kara, but it’s for the best.” Alex explained.
“As long as Lena is here with me, I will be fine.” Kara said. Lena talked to Kara and told her more stupid things her interns had done until Alex was able to pull Kara out.
“Now I’m going to draw some blood and then we will head back to our lab and look things over before making our final decision.” Mia said.
After they took Kara’s blood, while they waited Kara and Lena watched Sleeping Beauty.
“Seriously, what witch curses a baby to prick her finger on a spinning wheel and die just because she didn’t get invited to a party?” Kara asked.
“That’s like so petty. That would be like if I reacted to learning you were Supergirl by turning into a supervillain and mind controlling the world.” Lena responded.
“That would be so ridiculous.” Kara said as Mia and Alex came back.
“So, our scans look good and the tumors are responding to the chemo very well and have stopped growing.” Alex said.
“So, we have decided that in a month we will stop and give your body a break from the chemotherapy.” Mia added.
“That’s great news. Can I talk to Mia privately for a little bit?” Kara asked, which got her confused looks from Lena and Alex but they both left the room to give Kara privacy.
“What don’t you want to talk to them about?” Mia asked.
“If I was to switch to the stronger treatment protocol, what would that look like?” Kara asked.
“You’d come in once a week for a 3 hour long infusion and we would also do radiation therapy. You’d need to stay overnight afterwards. It would be very painful and leave you even weaker than you already are. You’d likely see worse side effects and be in more pain that we might not be able to keep under control.” Mia said. “What’s bringing this newfound interest in the treatment?”
“Last night scared me, and seeing everyone’s reaction scared me and made me realize how sad everyone would be when I died.” Kara asked. “Please don’t tell anyone. I want to think about it for a little bit and talk to Lena before I get everyone’s hopes up.”
“I won’t.” Mia said.
“You can let them back in now.” Kara said.
“What was that about?” Alex asked.
“I just had some questions.” Kara explained. “You wanna hook me up to the meds now so I can head to work?” She asked.
“You should stay home and rest, Kara. You were just in the hospital.” Alex said.
“From what I have seen, Cat will understand why you aren’t there today.” Lena added.
“I want to head to work. Let everyone know I am ok. I’ll do a half day today if that makes you feel better.” Kara added.
“I’ll take you home after lunch.” Lena said.
Mia came in with the bag of meds. “Now remember, if you start to feel like you did yesterday morning, let someone know so we can prevent that from happening again.”
“I will.” Mia hooked Kara up to the meds, and then Alex and Mia left the room. “Wanna finish our movie?” Kara asked.
“You know it.” Lena said. Halfway through the movie, Lena spoke up. “I thought this movie was supposed to be about Aurora. It seems like the movie is more about the fairies though. Seriously, can they not get along?” She asked.
“I like their dynamic.” Kara said. They had multiple more such reactions to the movie and finished it just as Alex came in to unhook Kara.
“Now remember, take it easy today. Also, I already told Nia and James to keep an eye on you, just so you know.” Alex informed Kara.
“They probably would’ve done that anyways. I will.” Kara said.
Lena dropped her off at work, and Kara walked into CatCo only to be met by Cat. “What are you doing here?” She asked. “You just spent the night in the hospital.”
“I was only there for observation. I’m fine. I am taking a half day though because Lena insisted.” Kara explained.
“Fine. But you are just doing research duty, you are not going outside of this building.” Cat said before letting Kara head to her desk.
Emily, one of Kara’s coworkers, came up to Kara’s desk. “Well, that was intense. I didn’t know Cat could care about anyone. You feeling better? Congratulations on the engagement by the way. We all saw the article.”
“Yes I am, thanks for checking on me. I’m going to start working now.” Kara said, before turning her attention to her computer.
She had multiple such interactions with her coworkers throughout the day, so when Lena came to pick her up after lunch and asked her if she was feeling ok on the car ride home, Kara exploded.
“I’m fine. Now can people please stop asking me that question?” Kara yelled.
“Why is this upsetting you so much?” Lena asked.
“Because ever since people found out that I have cancer, that’s all they see. Oh, Kara Danvers, yeah she has cancer. They never say anything else. It’s always talking about me having cancer. Even our friends do it to me. I feel like you are the only person that I can have a conversation with without talking about my cancer.” Kara explained.
“Maybe you should tell everyone how it makes you feel when they talk about your cancer.” Lena said gently. “They might not have even thought about how it would make you feel.”
“I didn’t think about that. Anyways, dance party? The interview made me realize we haven’t done one in awhile.” Kara said. “We have a few hours until they get here.”
“Why don’t you take a nap? I promise I will wake you up in an hour. Nia texted me that you looked like you were going to fall asleep at your desk earlier.” Lena gently suggested.
“Fine. You wanna start getting the playlist together?” Kara asked as she started getting into more comfortable clothes.
“Yes, you know I will. Now sleep.” Lena told Kara.
Kara took a nap and Lena prepared her playlist before calling Sam. “You want to come over around 5 o’clock for dinner? Kara wants to meet you.”
“I’d love to. How is she doing?” Sam asked.
“She’s feeling a lot better. She is currently taking a nap, but she seems to be doing ok.”
“Glad to hear that. How have you been handling everything? I know it's probably been hard on you?”
“I’m doing ok, all things considered. I haven’t really let myself focus on much besides just living each day with her and making it the best I can.” Lena answered.
“You need to start preparing though. I don’t want you to get hit all at once. Have you even talked to anyone about this?” Sam asked.
“No. I have my strategies.” Lena said.
“Little boxes aren’t a coping strategy.”
“They are. Anyways, so I know that I was going to have you come take over for me as CEO in 6 months, but would you be willing to consider stepping up in 2 weeks? I want to plan the wedding and be there for Kara, as her health crisis made me realize she is going to get worse fast.”
“I can try, but I do have Ruby, so it might be sort of hard. I saw the news, I know that she is terminal. You can’t get her into any experimental treatments with your money?”
“She was given the option, but she chose not to. She knows how much that pain that would put her in for the low chance she might get a few more months. She has made her peace, and honestly I don’t want her to put herself in more pain just for me.”
“Thats actually really mentally mature. If you ever need to talk, let me know. I can come over.”
“I will.” Lena heard sounds coming from their room. “I think Kara’s waking up. I’m going to go check on her. I’ll see you in a few hours? We’ll be having Chinese. Kara loves potstickers and its one of the foods I can consistently get her to eat.”
“Sounds good. I’ll let you go. Bye.” Sam said before hanging up.
Lena went to check on Kara, and found her grimacing. “What’s going on Darling? You need something?”
“Can you just get me some pain meds?” Kara asked.
Lena immediately grabbed Kara her pain meds and some water. “Here you go. What’s the pain at?” She asked.
Kara took the meds. “Probably a 7. Can we just watch a movie and then do the dance party? Sorry, I know you were probably looking forward to it.” Kara apologized.
Lena cupped Kara’s face in her hands. “Hey, don’t ever feel the need to apologize. I will have just as much fun watching a movie with you as I would have with the dance party.” Lena said.
“Really?” Kara asked.
“Of course. I don’t ever want you to put yourself in more pain just for me.” Lena said. “What do you want to watch?”
“Lilo and Stitch.” Kara answered.
“Again?” Lena playfully groaned. “Ok.”
They watched it, and Kara laid in Lena’s lap the whole time as Lena stroked her hair. When the movie was done, Kara turned to Lena with a smile and said “I feel much better now that the meds have kicked in. Dance party now?”
“Of course.” Lena started her playlist and Kara immediately started dancing, albeit horribly.
“Come on, join me.” Kara said as Better when I’m dancing played.
“You know, this song speaks the truth. Everything is better when you are dancing.” Lena said.
“It really is. Especially when I am dancing with you.”
They danced to a few more fun upbeat songs until Like I’m Gonna Lose You came on and they started slow dancing.
Lena realized what song was playing, and tried to switch it but Kara stopped her. “Hey, I wanna hear the music you like. It sounds good so far.” She said.
The first chorus came on.
“So I’m gonna love you like I’m gonna lose you
I’m gonna hold you like I’m saying goodbye
Wherever we’re standin’, I won’t take you for granted
’Cause we’ll never know when, when we’ll run out of time
So I’m gonna love you like you like I’m gonna lose you (lose you)
I’m gonna love you like I’m going to lose you”
Both Kara and Lena started crying as the song continued playing. When the song was done, Kara started speaking. “I don’t want you to lose me. I don’t want to run out of time with you. I’ve been thinking about trying the more intensive treatment. What do you think about it?” Kara asked.
“Who are you doing this for?” Lena asked, not wanting Kara to put herself through a ton of pain.
“Everyone. I talked to Mia about it this morning. I saw how scared everyone was yesterday and I don’t want all of them to be sad when I die.” Kara said. “At least this way they don’t feel like we did nothing to try.”
“I don’t want you to do this for other people.” Lena said as tears streamed down her face. “I know how much pain this will put you in, and I don’t want you to make that choice for me.”
Kara was crying by this point as well. “I wouldn’t be doing it just for them. I thought I’d made my peace with dying, but I can’t stop thinking of all the things we will never get to do. We won’t get to grow old together, we won’t get to do so many things. I want to try, and give us a chance at living our lives together.”
Sam suddenly knocked on the door and Lena got up to answer while wiping tears away from her face. “Are you ok?” Sam asked, seeing Lena’s puffy eyes.
“Yeah, Kara and I were just talking. I’m ok. Oh crap, I just realized I never ordered food. Why don’t you sit on the couch while I order food.” Lena said.
Lena went into the kitchen to order food while Sam sat on the couch. “So, are you the Kara that Lena non-stop talks about?” She asked.
“Yes I am.” Kara said.
“So, what were you talking about that made you cry?” She asked.
“Just some stuff. So, you are taking over for Lena as CEO?” Kara asked.
“Yes I am.”
“Thank you for doing that. How long have you known Lena?” Kara asked.
“We met in college. She helped me take care of my daughter sometimes so I could go to classes and she’s always kept an eye out for me and Ruby making sure we had enough food to eat and a safe place to sleep.” Sam said.
“That’s my Lena. Always looking out for other people.” Kara said. “Still can’t believe how so many people judge her based on Lex and can’t get past their biases. Everyone in my life thought that Lena was just using me because I’m Supergirl and a Super and Luthor don’t go well together.”
“You’re Supergirl!” Sam yelled right as Lena returned.
“Seriously, how was I fooled for so long. And how have you managed to keep it a secret Kara?” Lena asked.
“You are engaged to Supergirl Lena? How hasn’t this come up in conversation?” Sam asked in disbelief.
“Not my secret to share.” Lena said.
“Will you please keep it a secret?” Kara begged. “I did not mean for that to slip out. The meds make my filter drop a little and I forget to keep some things a secret.”
“Of course. But seriously, you two together?” Sam asked. “I mean, it does make some things make a little more sense. Did you know that people ship Lena and Supergirl?”
“Hey, that’s not fair.” Kara said. “Am I not hot?”
“You are darling. Are you jealous of yourself?” Lena asked.
“No I am not.” Kara scoffed.
“You totally are.” Sam said. “So, does that mean that Supergirl isn’t really off planet?”
“No, that’s a cover story since some people,” Kara said, glaring at Lena, “Won’t let me be Supergirl.”
“You are literally going through chemotherapy. You’ve had multiple seizures. Your cousin had to fly out and give you a blood transfusion.” Lena pointed out. “It’s a lot safer for you not to be Supergirl.”
“Is she always this stubborn?” Sam asked.
“Yes.” Lena said. Kara suddenly grabbed her anti-seizure med and shot herself.
“Kara, are you going to have a seizure?” Lena gently asked.
“No, the shot should stop it. That’s what Mia said anyways.” Kara answered.
“Why don’t you stay seated for a while?” Lena said as knocking was heard on the door.
“Oh, that must be the food you ordered Lena. I’ll go grab the food so you can keep an eye on Kara.” Sam said.
“I’m fine.” Kara said. Sam came back with the food.
“Well, looks like you are just as stubborn as Lena.” Sam told Kara.
“Oh I am not that stubborn.” Lena retorted.
“Really? What about the time you had appendicitis and you went in to take your final while insisting you were fine?” Sam asked.
“So that’s why you don’t have an appendix!” Kara exclaimed.
“How many times have you x-ray visioned me?” Lena asked.
“Every time you got shot at or got kidnapped. So, quite a few times.” Kara said.
“I’m just going to pretend like I did not hear that you’ve been kidnapped multiple times or shot at. So, how did you get together?” Sam asked. “You said something about it being private, but now I am assuming it is a cover for something Supergirl related?”
“A 5th dimensional imp put me in a musical coma along with my speedster friend from another earth and that’s when I realized I was in love with Lena and she saved me with a kiss.” Kara explained.
Sam sat there in a moment shocked. “What?” Was all she managed to say.
“You’ll get used to it the more you hang around Kara. She deals with a lot of weird stuff.” Lena said.
“Yeah, my ex boyfriend was the prince of Daxam. We broke up months before the invasion.” Kara said.
“You know, maybe we can talk about something that isn’t Supergirl related? Like what do you have planned for the wedding so far?” Sam asked.
“We are having it in a month. It’ll be at a local reception hall.” Lena said. “Would you be my maid of honor?” She asked.
“I’d love to be. Who is your maid of honor Kara?” Sam asked.
“My sister. We are just having a small wedding with just our family and friends.” Kara said.
“So, are you having any sort of kryptonian marriage ceremony?” Sam asked.
“Yeah, my cousin is officiating that. He’s the only person qualified. Otherwise I’d have to use my dead mom’s hologram.” Kara said.
“You have a hologram of your dead mom? That’s totally not fucked up.” Sam said. “So, do you have an idea of who all is going?”
“Probably my foster mom, my sister, my friends-Lucy, Nia, James, Winn, my space dad, my doctor Mia, Cats probably gonna wanna come as well, my cousin and his wife, and that is really it. Oh actually, and some of my friends from Earth 1. So Barry and Iris, Oliver and Felicity, Caitlin, Sara and that’s really it there. Everyone else will have to understand I don’t really want a big wedding cause if I invited all my superhero friends from there that would make up over half of the wedding.” Kara said.
“Obviously Ruby will be invited as well.” Lena added.
“You have friends on Earth-1? And the multiverse exits? What has my life come to?” Sam muttered.
“Yeah it does. You can believe aliens exist but the multiverse trips you up?” Kara asked.
“Forgot about your superhearing. Fair point, but still. Should’ve known that Lena could never fall in love with someone normal.” Sam said before switching the conversation and talking about her daughter. They talked until 7 when Kara started to get tired and Lena kicked Sam out.
Lena looked over at Kara sleeping peacefully in her bed and decided she was going to cherish the next month of good days before the harder cancer treatment took it all away.
Chapter Text
“So, you have everything already planned?” Kara said in shock.
“Yes darling, now all that is left is for you to plan the Kryptonian Ceremony, us to find our outfits, and send out the invitations.” Lena said. “Oh, and I am thinking that Winn will sing at our wedding.”
“He’d love that. I am kinda glad we are having a small wedding, as it means we don’t have to deal with the press or anything.” Kara said.
“The press will try, but I already have precautions set up into place. I have Alex and Maggie, Lucy, Nia, James, Sam and Ruby, J’onn, Eliza, Clark and Lois, Barry and Iris, Oliver and Felicity, Sara, and Caitlin. Anyone I am missing?” Lena asked.
“Let’s invite Mia. She’s been there a lot for us over the past couple weeks, and she’s going to be there for us even more in the next couple years.” Kara said.
“When our friends come over tonight, you want to tell them we already have everything set up?” Lena asked.
“Yes I would. Since you are just having Sam up there, I’ve decided to just have Alex. I don’t really like big wedding parties anyways. Everyone else will just sit in the audience.” Kara said.
“Ok. Just to double check, you are having J’onn officiate right?” Lena asked.
“Yep, I was planning to ask him tonight.”
“Have you made your decision on the treatment yet? I know we talked yesterday, but Sam interrupted.”
“Yes I have. I want to try. I’ll start after the wedding.”
“Do you want to tell everyone tonight? And what about the honeymoon? We haven't talked about that yet.”
“Sure. For the honeymoon, lets find a nice resort somewhere in a tropical country with a nice pool?”
“That sounds great. Alex is probably going to insist on coming with us in case anything happens.”
“Yeah, she will. We can put her up in the same resort, but far away from our room.” Kara said. “We don’t need a repeat of that one morning.” Kara said while shaking her head.
Lena laughed. “You're right. Maybe we should offer to let her bring Maggie along so she’ll be busy and will leave us alone.” Lena suggested.
“They’d both like that.” Kara said as someone knocked on the door.
“Oh hey Maggie. You’re the first one here.” Kara said.
“Hey Little Danvers. You feeling better? Sorry I couldn’t come, I was dealing with a lot at the station. Some idiot decided to take hostages.” Maggie explained.
“Don’t worry about it. Everyone made way too big a deal about it.” Kara said.
“How many times do I have to remind you, you literally had to be on oxygen and your cousin had to fly in to give you a blood transfusion. It was a fairly big deal.” Lena said. “She downplays everything.”
“That’s true.” Alex said, having just arrived.
“Oh there you are Alex. And James, Nia, J’onn, Lucy, Winn. Did you all drive here together or something?” Kara asked.
“J’onn, Lucy and I all get off at the same time. J’onn flew, Lucy drove like a crazed maniac, and I unfortunately had to ride in the car with her as my car is in the shop.” Winn said.
“You, Lena Luthor, have dance parties?” Lucy asked, referencing the article Cat wrote.
Lena’s face immediately turned red. “She does! She actually started them after we went out to Karaoke one time because she liked my singing voice and thought it was hot. Good way to start a great night.” Kara told everyone.
“Kara!” Lena exclaimed.
“Whoops. Least its not like I revealed I was Supergirl again.” Kara said.
“Again?” Alex asked.
“Lately, she has no filter on what she says.” Lena explained. “It was my best friend Sam, so at least it’s ok.”
“Yeah, I heard her swear in a staff meeting the other day and everyone looked at her like she had grown a second head.” Nia said.
“So, you two have used dance parties as foreplay?” Lucy asked, enjoying the conversation.
Lena turned bright red. “How about we not talk about my sister’s sex life? I already know way too much.” Alex said, her face scrunched up in disgust. “It’s probably a side effect of the pain meds.”
“Makes sense.” Kara said. “Lena and I have some big news for you!”
“We already have planned the wedding, it is in a month. Winn, will you sing at our wedding?” Lena said.
“I’d love to!” Winn said.
“And J’onn, will you officiate our wedding?”
“Of course I will.” J’onn said while tears started forming. “I’d be honored.”
“Thanks Space Dad.” Kara said.
“How many times do I have to tell you all that I am not Space Dad?” J’onn asked.
“We’ll never stop.” Winn said as everyone nodded, knowing they’d all agreed he was their Space Dad.
“Anyways, you feeling better?” Nia asked.
“Actually, I wanted to talk to you guys about that. I know I have cancer and you guys are all just trying to check in, but I hate being asked that question constantly. I don’t need constant reminders of my cancer. Could you maybe try to avoid asking that question unless you are like noticing signs of me having a seizure or being in severe pain?” Kara said.
“Oh wow Kara, I didn’t even think of it like that. I was just trying to check in, but I will make sure not to do that anymore.” Nia said.
“Thank you.” Kara said gratefully.
“Oh, sorry Little Danvers.” Maggie said.
“You want me to talk to our coworkers about that?” James asked. “They’ll probably listen to me or you can probably ask Cat to tell them off.”
“I’ll talk to them about it.” Kara said.
“I’ll try to stop asking about it, except for at your chemo appointments obviously. I can’t make any promises as I am your big sister so I worry, but I’ll try to stop.” Alex said.
“And I’ll remind her.” Maggie added.
“What game are we playing tonight?” Winn asked.
“Monopoly.” Lena said.
“Oh come on, you are the CEO of a big company. You always win, that’s not fair.” Lucy complained.
“What do you suggest then?” Winn asked.
“I want to hear more about the things Lena does that she doesn’t want anyone to know.” Maggie said with a smirk. “I seriously did not expect to hear about dance parties and I’m sure most people here in National City didn’t expect that either. Also, you guys are moving even faster than Alex and I. Married in less than a year?”
“Well, you just know when love hits you.” Kara said.
“No.” Lena said. “We could play UNO?”
“Yes, as long as Kara doesn’t cheat.” Lucy said. “Still think she cheated last time. I seriously don’t understand how she won.”
“She just always does.” Alex says. “It’s like she has a superpower allowing her to win at UNO. Why are you having the wedding so soon anyways?”
“Oh, we want to have the wedding and honeymoon before I start the tougher chemo and raditation.” Kara said, forgetting they hadn’t told anyone yet.
“Wait, I thought you weren’t going to try?” Alex asked, raising an eyebrow. “What changed your mind?”
“I just kept thinking of everything I would miss out on when I died. Then I saw how scared everyone was the other night and I didn’t want to leave you all sad. This way, you know I at least tried.” Kara said.
“I talked about this with her, she also wants more time with all of us. She’s not putting herself through all this pain just for us.” Lena added.
“Wait, I’m confused. What’s going on?” Nia asked.
“She finally agreed to try the cancer treatment that gives her a chance at life. She’d turned it down but of course Lena makes her change her mind.” Alex said as she rolled her eyes.
“She has the right to make her own decisions. This treatment is going to put her in a fuck-ton of pain!” Lena yelled. “And no, I didn’t make her change her mind. She made her choice because she doesn’t want to make everyone sad if she dies. She said she doesn’t want to miss out on everything left in her life, but I am sure that she is doing it just for all of us. That is how selfless she is. She is going to put herself in a ton of pain, for what might be the last years of her life just for us! Her chance at survival is only 25% with this treatment!”
“Maybe we should leave.” Maggie suggested, trying to defuse the situation.
“Fine, maybe we should.” Alex said back before storming out.
“I am so sorry about that. I don’t know what got into her.” Maggie said before leaving to go after Alex.
Everyone just stared at Kara, trying to figure out what to say before J’onn spoke up. “Would you like us to leave you be?” He asked.
“No, can we just play games? I’d like a distraction.” Kara said, though her eyes were forming tears.
Everyone agreed though the mood in the room was still tense. “So, you are going to another Earth next weekend for your friends wedding?” Lucy asked. “That sentence is something I never thought I would say by the way.”
“Yeah, he, some of the Earth-1 vigilantes and I worked together last year to help stop an invasion on their earth and afterwards we actually came here and went to the bar. Everyone wanted to see Barry get drunk since they had never seen it before.” Kara said.
“Wait, you mean there is more than 1 superhero on Earth-1?” Nia asked.
“One is more of a vigilante, that’s my friend Oliver who’s probably killed at least 300 people, and another time travels and protects her earth’s timeline. She was also an assasin. And then Caitlin has an alter-ego who has ice powers. She tried to kill Barry’s fiancée, but she’s good now.” Kara explained.
“300 people?” J’onn questioned. “And you are friends with this guy?”
“To be fair, he was forced to kill a lot of these people and then all of the others were bad guys who couldn’t be put in jail as they were too rich.” Kara said.
“A time traveling assassin ?” Nia questioned.
“Yeah, she and Oliver both were on a yacht when it crashed and Oliver got stuck on an island with evil people for 3 years and spent another 2 years being forced to work as an assasin for the United States government. Sara was on the island with him for a little bit before falling off a boat they were trying to use to escape and getting taken in by a league of assassins. The time traveling part I still don’t really understand what kicked that off.
Everyone just sat there shocked for a moment. “Wait, what do you mean superpowered alter ego who tried to kill her friends fiancée?” Lucy questioned.
“Oh, she felt rejected by everyone including Caitlin who was trying to get ri of her and Savitar, who was actually Barry’s time remnant from the future, took her in.” Kara said, like that explained everything.
“And here I thought Superman got into some weird stuff.” James said. “That just left me with more questions.”
“Time remnant?” Winn questioned .
“Apparently Barry’s future self created time remnants to kill Savitar. Savitar killed all but one of them so that one time remnant could turn into Savitar. Barrry has the power to time travel if he runs really fast and if he runs into the past and stays there, there can be two versions of him.” Kara said.
“How did Savitar get created in the first place then?” J’onn asked, still thoroughly confused.
“Time travel is weird.” Kara said. “Anyway, we all became friends and I have been back to their Earth a couple times just to hang out. They are really fun to spar with.”
“Why is everyone so shocked by this? I thought you all knew about Barry?” Lena questioned.
“We didn’t know there was more than just Barry!” Winn yelled. “Why did you keep it a secret?”
“I didn’t. None of them just ever came up in conversation.” Kara said.
“So, just to be clear, you guys are having a bunch of superheroes , vigilantes and time travelers all gathered in one place? That sounds like a lovely plan.” Lucy said.
“We all want to see Barry get married. And they’ll be at my wedding too.” Kara said.
“I need to leave and make sure that we are prepared for everything. Your wedding is in a month correct?” J’onn asked.
“I probably should get going as well. I need to help him out.” Lucy said.
They both gave her hugs before leaving. “On that note, I’m gonna leave as well.” Nia said. “I have to head in ridiculously early tomorrow for a big event that Cat is having me cover.”
Nii hugged Kara before leaving and then James and Winn both left before Kara fell asleep on the couch. Lena just covered her with a blanket as she knew how impossible Kara could be to wake up.

Chapter Text
“You ready for the wedding? We need to leave tomorrow morning. Did you ask Mia if you could skip the next two days of chemo for Barry’s wedding?” Lena asked.
“Yeah, Mia said I could, although she didn’t think it was a great idea. She said to take it easy and to come back right away if I have any issues.” Kara said.
“Only Caitlin knows right now, correct?” Lena asked. “Is there anyone else you are planning on telling?”
“No, I’ll talk to them after Barry gets back from his honeymoon.” Kara said.
“Ok. Tonight, lets just chill and watch some TV before heading out tomorrow.” Lena said.
Kara agreed because she wasn’t feeling the greatest, but she didn’t want to tell anyone. She figured she’d be fine after she rested for the night. Her arm was weirdly sore, but she just brushed it off to the general aches from the chemo. She was also warm, but again just thought of it as a side effect from the chemo.
After awhile, Kara was ready to sleep. “I’m going to head to bed, Lee.”
“I’ll come join you in a bit Darling. Let me know if you need anything.”
Kara fell asleep immediately, and Lena joined her an hour later.
Kara woke up to someone shaking her. She opened her eyes and found Lena standing over her. “Time to get ready for the day. I let you sleep in and made sure to pack the last minute things real quick. There are some pancakes I made in the fridge if you want to warm them up.” Lena said.
“I’m good. I’m gonna go take a shower real quick before I eat. Thanks.” Kara said.
Lena finished getting herself ready while Kara took a shower.
“Mia gave me an updated USB to give to Caitlin if anything happens. She also is making me take some red-sunlight tipped needles and some strong pain meds. Just wanted to let you know Darling.” Lena said when Kara was done. “You look nice. Is that going to be warm enough though?”
Kara looked down at her outfit, jeans and a t shirt. “Thanks? I have some hoodies in my suitcase if I get cold. By the way, we need to grab a bandage or something to cover my PICC line. I’ll just tell them I solar flared as that will explain the bruises.” Kara said. Over the last week she’d had more issues with her red-blood count levels. They were continually low, but she wasn’t at a point of another anemia crisis. Her arms and legs were bruised all over.
“Already have some. Sounds like a plan.” Lena said and gave Kara the bandages, letting her cover up the PICC line. “Now, are you ready to go?” She asked.
“Yep. Where’s the extrapolator?” Kara asked.
Lena held up her hand. “Right here. I’ll grab our bags.”
They stepped through the portal and found Iris and Caitlin with guns at the ready, again. “You guys knew we were coming!” Kara said
“Yeah, but we didn’t know for sure if it was you.” Iris said as she lowered her gun.
“Hi Lena. Nice to meet you. I’ve heard s much about you from Kara.” Caitlin said.
“Me too. Though, I gotta say, I was not expecting you to have a sorta evil alter ego with ice powers. How did that happen anyways?” Lena asked.
“I don’t know.” Caitlin said. “My powers don’t come from the particle accelerator explosion, so we are not sure where they came from yet.”
“Hi Lena. Wait, is that a ring I see?” Iris asked, noticing Kara and Lena’s rings.
Kara tried to hide her hand but it was too late. “Are you two engaged?”
“Oh, I am so sorry, I didn’t mean to tell you guys now. I was going to give you our invitations after the wedding.” Kara said.
“Don’t worry about it. I’m happy for you.” Iris said. “When is the wedding?”
“A month.” Lena said.
“When did you guys get engaged? I didn’t see a ring when you visited 2 weeks ago.” Caitlin asked.
“Oh, you came to our Earth 2 weeks ago?” Iris asked.
“Yeah, I had some stuff I needed Caitlin's help with.” Kara explained.
Barry walked into the Breach room. “Whoa, Kara, what happened? I thought you were invulnerable?” He asked, noticing all of Kara’s bruises.
“I got in a fight and solar-flared.” Kara lied. Caitlin narrowed her brows but didn’t say anything.
“You ok?” Barry asked.
“Yeah, I’ll be fine in a few days.” More lies.
“Everyone else is here. Not all of the legends are here, just Sara, Jax, and Professor Stein. Everyone else is protecting the timeline from a time demon named Mallus? I think, I’m not sure.” Barry said.
Lena just rolled with it. “I don’t think I have heard about Jax or Professor Stein yet. Let’s go see them.”
Barry led them upstairs where everyone was waiting for them. “Hey guys, this is Lena, my fiancée.”
“When did you get engaged?” Barry asked.
“Two weeks ago.” Lena said. “It’s very nice to meet all of you.”
“It’s nice to meet you as well. Kara would not stop talking about you during the dominator invasion last year.” Sara said.
Kara’s face turned bright red. “I didn’t talk about her that much.”
“Dude, literally every other sentence out of your mouth was something about Lena.” Barry said. “Congrats on the engagement.”
“What happened to you?” Cisco asked.
“I may have solar-flared and lost my powers. I’ll be fine.” Kara said.
“Yikes.” Sara said.
Everyone introduced themselves before breaking off into smaller groups to talk. Caitlin came up to Kara and Lena. “How are you feeling Kara?”
“I’m feeling ok. Thank you again for keeping this a secret. I don’t want to ruin Barry and Iris’s wedding.” Kara said.
“Oh, before I forget, here’s a USB drive with some updated information for Kara’s health. She has been having issues with her red-blood count, but she should be ok.” Lena said.
“Good to know.” Caitlin said.
“And I have medical equipment in my suitcase if she has another medical emergency.” Lena said. “It shouldn’t come up, but there are red-sunlight tipped needles that can penetrate her skin and strong pain meds.”
“Ok.” Caitlin said.
“So, how did you two finally get together?” Sara asked.
“A fifth-dimensional imp put Barry and I into a musical coma to get us to realize who we were in love with.” Kara said.
“Iris and I had to wake those two up with a kiss.” Lena added.
“What?” Oliver asked. “My god, Barry always gets involved in the strangest things.”
“You can’t talk.” Felicity said. “Damien Darkh, Mirakuru, literally having Sara come back from the dead.”
“Ok, to be fair with that last part that was all Thea and Laurel.” Sara said.
“Why don’t you seem shocked by this Sara?” Oliver asked.
“My team and I are literally trying to keep a time demon from destroying time. We’ve dealt with some weird stuff.” Sara said. “This isn’t any weirder. Besides, what do you expect when you are friends with a literal alien?”
Oliver just shook his head in defeat after that. “So, who proposed?” Felicity asked.
“Lena did at Karaoke night. It was great until the ne-” Kara cut herself off, not wanting to reveal what had happened.
“Until what?” Oliver asked.
“Nothing.” Lena said.
“You proposed with song as well?” Barry asked, him and Iris had been passing by.
“Yes, Kara and I got together with song so it seemed fitting.” Lena said.
“I am very glad to see you two are happy together.” Barry said before heading to the next table with Iris.
Lena got up to go get some water, and that is when Kara’s nausea decided to come back in full force. She thought she had it under control, but she was not feeling good today for some reason.
She ran to the bathroom and Felicity and Sara followed to make sure she was ok. Kara hadn’t shut the stall door as she was in too much of a hurry so Sara went inside after hearing Kara puking.
“What is going on Kara?” Sara asked. “You look awful. I don’t think that you blew out your powers in a solar flare.”
“Go get Lena please. I’ll explain more once she brings me” Kara suddenly retched again.
“Ok fine, but Felicity is in the hallway so I am going to have her come in and make sure you are ok. I don’t want to leave you alone.” Sara said.
“Oh my word Kara, are you ok?” Felicity said. “You need a hair-tie?”
“That would be great.” Kara said as Felicity helped her pull her hair back.
Felicity sat with Kara for a few moments until Sara returned with Lena. “Here you go Kara, here are your meds. When was the last time you took them?” Lena asked.
“At lunch. I forgot to take them.” Kara said before swallowing the pills. Once her stomach was settled, she turned to look at Sara and Felicity who were looking at her very concerned.
“So, I guess I should explain. Let’s go find somewhere a little more private.” Kara said.
“There is a bench outside we can go talk on.” Sara suggested and led them there.
Once everyone was seated, Felicity spoke up first. “What is going on Kara?”
“Before I tell you, you need to promise not to tell anyone else.” Kara said.
Sara and Felicity looked at each other before nodding.
“I have brain cancer.” Kara said.
“What?” Felicity said.
“Why haven’t you told any of us?” Sara asked.
“How long have you known?” Felicity asked.
“Is it treatable?” Sara asked.
“How about one question at a time?” Lena suggested.
“It’s ok. I haven’t told any of you because I didn’t want to ruin Barry and Iris’s wedding. I’ve known for a little over a month.” Kara said.
“Why would it ruin Barry and Iris’s wedding?” Felicity asked. “And why didn’t you answer Sara’s last question?”
“Because it is likely terminal. I don’t want everyone to be looking at me full of pity.” Kara said.
“Oh wow, I am so sorry.” Felicity said.
“Me too. When were you planning on telling us?” Sara asked.
“After Barry and Iris’s honeymoon. I needed to make sure I could call on you if I have another alien invasion on my earth or something.” Kara said. “I have friends back at home taking care of the minor alien attacks and such, but if there is a world ending threat, they will probably need your help.”
“The legends and I will definitely help if you need it.” Sara said. “It would just be repaying the favor.”
“Oliver will definitely help.” Felicity said. “Barry will as well.”
“How are you treating it right now?” Sara asked. “Did you actually blow out your powers?”
“No, that was just a way to explain away the bruises and the bandage covering my PICC line. I’ve been getting chemotherapy every morning, but I am switching to a much stronger treatment after my wedding in a month, as that gives me a chance.” Kara said.
“Your wedding is in a month?” Sara asked.
“What is your chance at survival?” Felicity asked.
“Twenty-five percent chance at living past 2 years.” Lena said. “I want to be married to her as soon as I can, that is why the wedding is so soon.”
“Why do you only have a 25% chance at living past 2 years?” Cisco asked. Nobody had noticed when he came outside. “Is this why you needed the calorie bars and why I had all those vibes of you puking?”
“Lena, will you explain?” Kara asked, not wanting to have to explain to yet another person.
“She has brain cancer and even with the strongest treatment protocol, she only has a 25% chance of living past 2 years. She needed the calorie bars because she’s been having issues keeping her food down.” Lena said. “Why did you come out here?”
“I saw you all head out here and then I had a vibe that Kara was going to collapse. I thought someone was going to attack you.” Cisco said.
“You have it right?” Kara asked.
“Yes, I wouldn’t forget it.” Lena said.
“Have what?” Felicity asked.
“Her seizure rescue med. Cisco’s vibe was probably Kara having a seizure.” Lena said.
“My head does fe-” Kara started shaking. Lena immediately injected her and laid her down on the bench.
“She should be ok in a few moments.” Lena explained.
Everyone waited in silence for Kara to wake up. “Fuck, did it happen again?” Kara asked.
“Miss Sunshine swears?” Felicity said in shock.
“You’d probably swear too after having a seizure.” Lena said.
“Plus the pain meds make me lose some of my filter.” Kara added.
“Pain meds? How much pain are you in? Is it a side effect of the chemo or the cancer?” Sara asked.
“The chemo. It’s not too much pain. I can handle it.” Kara said.
“That reminds me, when’s the last time you took your pain meds?” Lena asked. “How much pain are you in?”
“3 hours ago. I can’t take them yet.” Kara said. “I can handle it. I’ll be fine.”
“You sure?” Lena asked.
“Yeah, I’ll be fine.” Kara said.
“Fine, but you need to stay seated. You know that pain is a trigger for your seizures.” Lena said.
“I’ll be fine but ok.” Kara said.
They headed back to the dining hall. “Oh there you guys are. Where were you?” Oliver asked when everyone returned to the table.”
“Just talking.” Sara said.
“Well that was certainly one long conversation. Barry actually came by a couple minutes ago looking for you Kara.” Oliver said.
“I’ll go find him.” Kara said. Lena glared at her for breaking the agreement so soon, but didn’t say anything.
Kara got up and found Barry. “Oliver said you wanted to talk. What’s up?”
“I know that I already asked you to sing at my wedding, but I just realized I never gave you the song. Here you go.” Barry said, handing her the sheet music. “It’s the song I proposed to Iris with.”
“That sounds lovely. Thank you for trusting me with this.” Kara said.
“Why wouldn’t I?” Barry said. “I gotta go talk to Iris and make sure everything is ready for tomorrow before the wedding.”
“See you then.” Kara said.
“What was that all about?” Sara asked when Kara returned.
“Just making sure some stuff is set up for tomorrow.” Kara said. “Lena, you ready to head to Joe’s?” Kara asked.
“Sure, let me just talk to Caitlin real quick.” Lena said.
“You’re heading back already?” Oliver asked. “It’s early.”
“I get tired easily when I solar flare.” Kara lied. “I’ll be fine, just need to get some sleep.”
“How did you manage to solar-flare anyways? You didn’t even solar flare during the dominator invasion.” Oliver pointed out.
“I was helping out with something for way too long.” Kara said. “It’s fine, don't worry about it.”
Oliver clearly wasn’t happy with the answer, but dropped it.
Lena came back. “I’m ready now. ”
Kara fell asleep very shortly after they got to Joe’s. Sara insisted on giving her the couch and she and Lena slept on the floor. Felicity had ended up getting a hotel room with Oliver, but Sara, Kara and Lena didn’t have money as one was time traveling with no job and the other two were literally from an alternate dimension.
Sara woke up in the middle of the night after hearing sniffling and looked over to see Kara floating above the couch and crying.
“Lena, can you help me with Kara? She’s floating in her sleep and crying.” Sara said as she gently woke Lena up.
Lena immediately shot up and went into her purse. “Can you go grab some water? She probably needs to take her pain meds.”
Sara ran to the kitchen and grabbed some water for Kara as Lena woke Kara up.
“Hey, Kara, it’s Lena. What is your pain at?” Lena asked.
“Only a 6.” Kara said.
“You were crying in your sleep. Want to try again?” Sara asked. “Is she always this stubborn about letting people take care of her?”
“Yes, Cat Grant, a media boss, literally came to our girls night just to get our help to stop Kara from being Supergirl.” Lena said.
“Ok, fine, maybe my pain is at a 7.” Kara said. Lena handed her the meds and then Sara went back to sleep.
Lena sat down on the couch and let Kara sleep in her lap until she fell asleep herself, where Sara found them in the morning.
“Aww, you two are such a cute couple.” Sara said as she took a picture.
“When did you sit on the couch? And that must have been so uncomfortable.” Kara said.
“You had to take your pain meds in the middle of the night and I sat with you to make sure you were ok.” Lena explained. “It wasn’t.”
“Iris wants us all to get ready with her. You up for that?” Sara asked.
“Yes I am.” Kara said. She also was really warm, which was unusual as she was typically cold but she didn’t mention that. She also didn’t mention the red lines she’d seen coming from her PICC line or how sore that arm was as she didn’t want anyone to worry.
They all took showers and headed to the reception hall where Iris was already getting her makeup done.
“Oh there you guys are!” Iris said. “I have make-up artists and hairstylists for all of you.”
Kara was getting her hair done when the hairstylist suddenly stopped brushing her hair and showed her a chunk that had fallen out. Lena noticed and went up to Kara after telling the hairstylist to just do something basic. Kara started crying, which Iris noticed.
“You good Kara?” She asked.
“Yeah, I’m just happy for you guys.” Kara lied. Internally, she was panicking at the thought of losing her hair.
Then when she was getting her makeup done, the artist commented on her under-eyes. “Girl, how much sleep have you been getting?”
“Enough.” Kara said.
Once everyone was finished getting ready they got their pictures taken until the ceremony. Kara sang as everyone walked down the aisle and then Iris and Barry exchanged their vows.
She got through the ceremony and the lunch afterwards, but right after Barry and Iris left for their honeymoon, she collapsed. She heard yelling all around her but she had no idea what was going on.
