Chapter Text

"Breathe," The man spoke, his voice still raspy from being strangled. Unbeknownst to you, you were instinctively holding your breath the second you plunged into darkness. You took a deep breath, calming yourself down.

Suddenly you felt yourself fall down. No longer covered in darkness with your feet touching the ground. The man removes his hold of your waist. He then falls to the ground, which startled you. He was breathing heavily. You look around your surroundings and noticed you were in a tiny house. You quickly looked for a kitchen and grabbed a cup of water, running back to the man, "Drink." You spoke softly.

"Thanks." The man spoke. He looked up at you, you then paused. He didn't look human anymore, you know this was the same performer, you couldn't have mistaken his voice or his golden eyes. He drank the water and noticed you were staring, "What?"

You look away before questioning him, "Were you always a monkey demon..?"

"What, did you prefer the other me?" He teased, his voice coming back to him. It was no longer raspy.

You frantically shook your head no, "No! Just.. Just wondering why you disguised yourself as a human!"

"Wondering the same about you." He spoke, before"

downing the whole cup of water. You looked at him confused. How could he tell? "If you're wondering how I know, you don't necessarily smell human."

Your mouth hangs open, "You can tell from my smell?" You start sniffing yourself, but you couldn't seem to smell it. Maybe it's one of the demon senses you never inherited.

He gave you a weird puzzled look, "Humans have a distinct smell. Back in my day, it's how we demons would hunt." Placing the glass down and repositioning himself sitting down in front of you. "But I suppose, recent demons like you lost that instinct. Noticed no one really eats humans these days." He said nonchalantly, showing off a bit of his fangs as he smiles at you.

"I'm actually just part demon." You admit. You haven't told anyone that in centuries, but this random man figured you out just by scent? "You know, you're talking like you're so old." You mutter quietly to yourself.

He let out a small laugh, "What you never came across someone who's lived for centuries?" He says as if it's something common.

"No..?" You wondered how he heard you, but you brushed it off, "I'm pretty old too, but I don't really seek out others." You wondered if it was appropriate to give out information about yourself. Maybe a little change in your routine wouldn't be too bad. Maybe being friends with someone that's also immortal wouldn't be so bad. "Oh!!" Suddenly you remembered what you came for, "Thank you for the ticket and um.. Sorry for missing your performance. I was locked out."

He looked at you dumbfounded before he chuckled, "Honestly, best you missed it." He then sunk down into the floor. You looked confused wondering where he disappeared to until you hear his voice boom from behind you, "I think I should be thanking you for saving my life."

"Um." You turn to look at him, he's sitting on the couch now. He turns on the TV and looks through different channels. "Where... exactly am I..?" You asked.

"Ahh, just some dude's hut." He answered, "Don't worry he shouldn't be home for a couple of days."

You had this mortified look, "We're at a stranger's house? Did you break us in? Can't you just take me back!?" You suddenly felt the ground beneath you disappear, you shriek momentarily before plopping to the couch next to the man.

"No, he's not a stranger. Yes, I broke us in. No, I won't take you back." the man started. He noticed you looked terrified and he rolled his eyes, "Look, I'm trying to return a favor. You saved my life, the least I could do is–"

"Kidnap me?" You screamed, he then covered your mouth.

"No, I'm hiding you from the Bone Demon." He answered, he looked a bit annoyed of you freaking out. He turns his attention back to the TV and removed his hand from your mouth

The name made your heart drop, "Bone Demon?" You repeated it as if you've heard it before. Still, all of this didn't really make sense to you and in all honesty you wanted no part of it. This is the kind of life style immortals live, the adventure and rush of danger. That all just sounded like a headache to you. Maybe being friends with this immortal demon was a mistake. "I'm sorry, but I just can't be apart of this. I have work tomorrow morning and I need to be by the bank after work."

The man kept his eyes on the TV, "Listen I know this doesn't make a lot of sense to you and honestly I don't know much myself either, but–" He paused, trying to find the right words to say. He opened his mouth to speak, but was cut off by the sudden boom. It sounded as if something huge fell from the sky outside.

Frozen in fear you turn to look at the monkey demon, hoping for any reassurance that the loud noise was probably nothing. Instead he stared at the wooden door leading outside. His face was alert, you wondered if he was a bit scared too. You then let out a shaky whisper, "I-is that the Bone demo-"

He shushed you. He watched the wooden door handle, his breath getting quieter. The door knob rattled intensely. Then silence. You felt yourself take a deep breath, the monkey positioned himself in front of the couch, covering you as if he was your shield.

Then a loud bang, the wooden door swings open. "What the..?" Another monkey man looked directly at you guys, "Macaque!?"

The black furred monkey growled in annoyance, "Wukong, you idiot!" He screamed, "I thought you were the bone demon's little pet."

"Excuse me?" The monkey who you presumed is Wukong gasped, "You're calling me the idiot when you're the one who BROKE into my HOUSE?"

"Not like you were staying here." The black furred monkey, Macaque scoffed, "Heard you were off running to Heaven the second you saw Bone Demon."

"And who says you can break into my house!?" Wukong crossed his arms, giving him an irritated look. He shows a bit of his fangs as a warning.

Macaque growled, "My house! My house!" He said mocking Wukong. "Did you STOP to think that I was also born on this very island. This is where we BOTH lived."

Wukong growled. They got close as if ready to fight. You cough loudly. Signaling to them that you're here. They pause and turn to you. Wukong gives you a puzzled look and asked, "Who's bunny?"

"Look I know we hate each other's guts, but listen to me." Macaque explained, "This girl, she has some anti-Bone Demon powers some how."

"Anti what!?" You screamed, your hands on your head while your mouth hung open.

Wukong raises a brow, "She doesn't sound aware of it." He said looking at you up and down with a skeptical look.

"I figured.." Macaque frowned, massaging his temples, "I've been under bone demon's control. She somehow broke me out of it. Broke Lady Bone Demon's chains."

Your mouth hung open, "I did WHAT NOW?" Your worst nightmare is happening! Involving yourself with other immortals and their tiring 'adventures'. Then it hit you, 'Did he call me bunny...?' how did he see through your disguise? There's only one monkey with the power to see through disguises with THAT name, "Wukong.." You whispered to yourself, then loudly repeated his name, "THE Sun Wukong!?"

Wukong gave you a smug smirk, "The one and only." Disaster! it's all over. You were well aware of the immortal monkey's existence and the trouble he brings. You were already grieving and saying goodbye to your peaceful mortal lifestyle. When Wukong notices your distressed reaction to him he grew concerned, "Uh, did I say something wrong?"

It hit you again, turning to the black furred monkey. "Y-you... That means you're the Six-Eared Macaque!" You groaned, pointing at him. He gave Wukong a quick side eye, unsure of why you're reacting the way you are, but nods. Seeing this, you crouch down, removing your glamour and grabbing your bunny ears from both sides of your head, chanting "It's over. My peaceful life is ruined."

"Uh.." Macaque started, "Okay, I don't know why she's acting like this, but regardless her power's there."

"I can sense it, but isn't it too small to affect Bone Demon's powers?" Wukong huffed, "Are you sure it wasn't MK that did that?"

Did he say MK? That name. Oh my god, you thought to yourself. Are your new friends also apart of this? I sighed in defeat, "My one day off... My one day off brought me chaos..."

Macaque and Wukong had no idea what dilemma you were facing. "Uh, hey bunny girl-"

"I'm a cabbit for Pete's sake!" You cut Wukong off, "Ugh why'd you have to pay for my ticket!?" You give Macaque a quick glare. He only returns an angry frown, but before he can say anything you retracted your blame on Macaque. "No! It's my fault.. I knew I should've never asked for a day off. Gah! Why do I even bother."

Macaque rolled his eyes, rubbing the back of his neck, "Look, I know all this looks confusing, but we're dealing with a world ending demon right now."

"WE?" You screamed, letting go of the grip you had on your bunny ears, your cat tail flickering behind you signaling you're stress. You laugh nervously, "I did not spend centuries working my ass off of minimum paying jobs to be apart of this-this chaos!" You then walk towards the door, Wukong having to take a side step to let you out the hut.

"Where are you going?" Wukong asked.

"Home!" You confidently said, but when you turned to look at your surroundings you realized you were inside a cave. "Are you KIDDING me?" Irritated and annoyed you ran looking for the exit of the cave. You saw hundreds of treasures and gold, but none of them interested you. The only thing you can think of is getting out and going back home. Breathless, but happy you finally made your way out. As the distance from the cave grew farther and farther you felt a sense of relief.

Finding your home wouldn't be a problem per say. Your cat demon senses gave you a natural compass way back home, the problem was when you reached the shore. In disbelief you at first thought that maybe this was just a really big lake. So you decide to run around the island, but when you circled back to the same place, you felt your heart sank. Laying down on the sand in disbelief, closing your eyes. "I just wanna go home.."

"Bunny!" You cringe at the nickname Wukong gave you, he flew in with his nimbus cloud and landed next to you. "Perfectly normal to be nervous! You just need some training and I'm sure you'd do well!

You sighed, "It's not that I'm nervous." You paused, biting your lip as you sit up on the sand. "More like I don't want to be apart of this lifestyle. Being immortal is fine, but trying to get a title for yourself, adventures, people making stories about you- it just sounds like hell."

"First of all, you just described me and I kind of take offense to that." Wukong furrowed his eyes in a joking manner. "Secondly, there's just somethings in life you can't avoid." His tone was softer along with his gaze. He held out a hand for you to help you stand and you reached out to take it but hesitated.

"But I can avoid this. Aren't you the Great Sage?" You spoke, hugging your knees. "You can totally do this without me. I just want to go home." Wukong stared at you, mouth open ready to speak, but nothing came out. Instead he just scratched the back of his head.

You felt a hand on your shoulder, "Well, you heard the kitty." Macaque said appearing crouched down behind you. Catching you off guard you screamed, and quickly stood up.

Wukong spoke his name with poison. "Macaque..." As if warning him to stop whatever he's scheming.

"What?" Macaque laughs, "Tell you what, let's have an agreement. You'll live your 'boring' peaceful life and we leave you alone, but if she comes for you... Don't go blaming us. M'kay Kitty?"

You opened your mouth to say something, but it was quickly replaced by a scream when Macaque opened a shadow portal underneath you, taking you away from the island.

"What the hell was that for!" Wukong screamed at Macaque, grabbing him by the collar. "I had it under control."

Macaque growls, "As if." He then opens a portal to the hut beneath them which caught Wukong off guard, losing his grip on Macaque. When they landed, Wukong quickly lunged himself to Macaque, but Macaque was quick to hide in the shadow. "Focus on the kid. That kitty would need to learn the hard way life doesn't go her way especially not with the Bone Demon running lose."

Without anymore words spoken, Wukong turned away. Perhaps there was some truth to his words.

Notes:
