Chapter 1: Nightmares and Plans

Chapter Text

Vi woke up with a gasp, scrambling to get the quilt off, and sitting up quickly. His breath was panicked, and he was slightly dizzy as he looked around the room. “just a nightmare. it’s only a nightmare, Vi.” he muttered under his breath, wary of the dark room as he got up to light a candle.

his feet brushed paper and red stone dust on the floor, making him jump and look down at every little thing.

Vi made it to his desk, picking up and lighting a candle on a small holder. “it’s just a nightmare, it’s just a nightmare..” he repeatedly whispered, staring out at the dark night, reaching a hand to touch the cold, misty glass.

He quickly pulled back with a shiver. Vi turned towards his door, his hands still shaky from his rotten dream.

(he still remembered the metallic smell of blood and vomit as he ran down the stairs to see everyone crowded round mi-)

“Ivory would know what to do.. right?” he wondered, she always seemed to know the right thing to do, despite how blunt she was.

He crept towards the door, his footsteps making the floor squeak under him. His face contourted in a wince every time it did so, hoping he wasn’t to loud.

Opening the door with a loud creak and shaky hands, he looked down the pitch black hallway- moonlight streaming in from the windows just barely covered by curtains. Walking down the hallway, Vi couldn’t help but have second thoughts about going to Ivory.

Would she be angry at him for awaking her so late? What if she was awake as well? Will she even be able to help? Will she just brush him off as if he was a kid like everyone else does?

‘ Stop it. ‘ Vi thought to himself. ‘Ivory wouldn’t ignore him like that..’ he hoped. He realised he was outside her door just as he rid himself of those thoughts. huh.

He hesitated, looking up at her door properly. It was a simple oak door, with few carvings in it.

Squeezing his eyes shut, he knocked 3 times on Ivory and Seraptors door. It was a violent sound in the quite night.

On the other side of the door he heard shuffling and a few groans from Seraptor. He would have to apologise for waking him up in the morning.

Ivory opened the door, as gentle as ever, with sleep still in her eyes. '"Vi, what- what are y-you doing here-? Are- are you.. uhm.. alright?" She spoke softly, noticing how red Vi's eyes were.

"Oh- I- uhm, well-" Vi gulped, he didnt really know what he was going to say when we got there. "Well I... uhm.. IHADANIGHTMARE!" He whisper shouted, rushing the last of his words out.

"oh." Replied Ivory, shutting the door behind her with a quiet click.

She properly looked at Vi, his ruffled hair and blotchy eyes and shaky hands. His sleepwear was also a bit crumpled and sweat stuck to his skin. She would have to make a note to wash it tomorrow for him.

"If- if you want- I can make some.. uhm.. tea, Vi." She said slowly, sleep draining her every move, begging her to come back to bed.

Vi brightened up, looking more like his usual self. "Please, Ivory." He whispered, shoulders tensing a bit. 'This is ridiculous' he thought. 'And childish. Why am I here? She probably thinks so lowly of me.'

Ivory only nodded, like usual, she was always so silent, Vi thought to himself as she quickly opened the door and grabbed a candle from a few seraptor had stashed in a drawer for their late-night-sneaking-on-rooftops and lit it. Closing the door behind her once more.

following Ivory as she began her walk to the kitchen, hands wringing together in front of her, her nightgown trailed along the floor, soft footsteps pitted-pattered along the planks as she thought.

Chapter 2: Tea and chatter.

Chapter Text

Vi followed Ivory down the hall, footsteps loud in the quiet of the night. It was kinda creeping him out, he almost felt watched. “uh, Vi.. are you.. alright?” Asked Ivory, when she caught him staring into the distance, eyes a bit fuzzy.

“Oh! Yes, sorry. Got a bit. . lost, in my head!”

..

"How can you get lost in your head..?”

Vi stared at Ivory, confusion making it’s way onto his face. "You know.. like.. when you think to much you zone out?” He asked, his eyes scrunching as he watched Ivory faulter a bit. “Oh, uhm.. r-right, of course..” Muttered Ivory, as she fiddled with the ring of the candle holder, avoiding directly touching the candle and averted her eyes.

Vi opened his mouth before shutting it again, biting the inside of his cheek. He distantly wondered how Ivory could never seem to understand sayings or social cues, it seemed so natural for him and-.. well.. everyone else really.

"Oh, we’re here.” Ivory said, blinking slowly as she brushed the handle of the kitchen door, taking in the cold metallic of the doorknob, then twisted open the doorknob.

Vi shuddered at the loud screech it made, did all the doors need new oil? Maybe he could oil the doors.. or install new ones! wouldn’t that be fun-

“Vi? Vi.. are- are you uhm, alright, Vi?” Whispered Ivy, faintly veiled concern on her face, he realised he zoned out again. “Ah- sorry, Ivory!” He giggled, trying to brush off her worries. “mm.” Hummed Ivory, her hand twitching in slight hesitation. “A-alright.. Vi.” She walked into the kitchen, Vi trailing behind her.

“Y’know, I don’t think I’ve ever actually been in the kitchens! Dad doesn’t like me going into the servants side of the house, says it’s improper for someone of our status to explore common places.. I think hes wrong tho, they’re just rooms with different purposes!”

Vi rambled, picking up and looking at different items before placing them back down, the objects clinking loudly against the countertops.Ivory just nodded along where she thought was right. “What do you think, Ivory?” Questioned Vi, as Ivory placed down her candle and flicked a light on.

She frowned, her shoulders tensing.“I- I uhm.. suppose your right? They are just rooms with uh.. p-purposes but- uh- uhm..” she murmured, hands wringing together, she didn’t exactly think she would of been asked for her opinion, and didn’t want to say anything wrong.

“It’s fine if you think I’m wrong Ivory! I was just asking for your opinon.” He stammered, averting his eyes.

“no- no, it’s alright.. I uh, do suppose your right.”

Ivory put the warm water she had been boiling in the kettle into a mug, which she had gotten from the cabinets, and began stirring it, watching the teabag darken the water, a orangey-brown taking place of the clear liquid from before.

They settled Into a sort of calm, despite the chilling night. Vi rambled about red stone and projects rhey would hope to make and Ivory listened, as she always did, while stirring the milk and sugar together in the mug.

"Uh, Vi your tea is ready.” Ivory said, cutting into his rant was a quiet sentance. Vi blinked, and smiled wildly.

“Thank you so much Ivory!” He praised, taking the mug into his own hands, cradling the warmth that was such a stark contrast from the chill of the winter that was slowly beginning to bloom into early spring.

"I suppose we should go back to bed before Mr. Pierce or one of your siblings finds us down here.. we do have a curfew.” Ivory said while Vi gulped down his tea.

“oh.. I-“ Vi gulped, placing the mug of tea on his lap, hands tracing circles on the pale white surface.

"Ivory- could you, uh, stay with me for the night?” he grumbled out the last part.

Truth be told, Ivory helped calm the phantom feeling of-vomit burning his throat and tears standing his cheeks as he struggled to get air I-

“I.. Of course, Vi..” echoed Ivory’s voice in the still air, unknowingly cutting off Vi’s spiralling thoughts.

Vi brightened, his grin returning, albeit softer. “Thank you, Ivory.” he whispered.

A small smile also crept on Ivory’s face, barley noticeable. Ivory picked the candle holder up again, and flicked off the light switch.

Vi followed her like a little duck as she trailed out the room and up the stairs, eyes lingering on that one bit of carpet. No stains remained, but both could still see them

Notes:

Next chapter is probably just going to be rhem sitting in Vi’s room, Maybe Ivory cleaning a few things up, or brushing his hair or smth as he rambles about red stone or things he likes:)

Every comment is appreciated! So are tips or ideas, tysm for reading <3

(btw, I might edit things or change layout a lot. don't mind that! that's just my pickiness lol.)
