Fault

Summary:

His sigh echos around the eerily silent room. Mace sat in his chair in the high council room, his gaze on the windows, looking out at the coruscant skyline, the sun long since set and still the flight lanes filled with speeders, their headlights filling the room briefly as they fly past. Over and over again. The council meeting long since ended and yet he still sits there, the room a Sancturary of his solitude...for the time being anyway.

Work Text:

His sigh echos around the eerily silent room. Mace sat in his chair in the high council room, his gaze on the windows, looking out at the coruscant skyline, the sun long since set and still the flight lanes filled with speeders, their headlights filling the room briefly as they fly past. Over and over again. The council meeting long since ended and yet he still sits there, the room a Sancturary of his solitude...for the time being anyway. He knows, just as everyone knows, that as soon as the sun rises again, the solitude will be over. The war destroying every sense of peace that could ever come from the beauty that a sunrise brings. “Well, this is a familiar sight.” a voice echos through the room, disturbing the silence. Mace, if he was a lesser man would have jumped but he's now, he's a jedi master so instead he slowly turns to look at the door where one Obi-wan Kenobi leans. “What are you still doing awake Kenobi?” Mace sighs, rubbing his forehead in either frustration or exhaustion, possibly a mixture of both. “I could as you the same thing Windu. Last time i checked we disbanded the last meeting almost...8 hours ago. Why in the force are you still sat here?” Obi-wan responds simply as he walks into the room, using the force to ensure the large doors don't slam behind him. Mace simply raises his eyebrow at the improper use of the force but doesn't say anything about his improper use of the force, instead letting out another long sigh out through the room. “It's nothing for you to worry about, just go back to bed Kenobi.” Kenobi simply ignores him, instead choosing to come over to where mace sits and stand next to his chair, looking out of the windows much like how mace did minutes before. “We both know I don't believe that Mace, come on, what's going on.” The silence continues to float in the room for a few more moments, turning the atmosphere tense and awkward, not that either of the men outwardly show it. “The darkness is spreading Obi-wan, we all know it and yet none of us openly say it or do anything about it. I mean come on Kenobi; how did we miss Krell's traitors' behaviour? How many lives uselessly lost and yet we saw nothing.” mace rambles quickly, obviously overly stressed. Until he pauses when a hand contacts his shoulder. “It's not your fault Mace. We all missed it. This war is messing with all our heads. Nobody is to soul blame. The only one at fault is Krell. Come on Mace, it's almost 4 in the morning, you can still get a few hours of sleep in before the rest of temple rises. It's not your fault. Let it go to the force Mace. Let it go.”
