Work Text:
Rain tapped lazily against Ena’s bedroom window, the sky outside a hazy gray. It wasn’t raining too hard per se, so the soft patter filled the quiet room. The world outside felt miles away, like it had all slowed down just for the two of you. No concerns, no worries, just the comfort of each others presence.
You were lying on her bed, wrapped together in the artist’s blanket. Ena’s room smelled sweet, not obnoxiously so, but it was obvious that before you came over she tried her best to tidy up. Her desk cluttered with art paper she had long abandoned in favor of being next to you.
Akito was out, supposedly to hang out with Toya, but you were convinced that was a lie Ena had made up and actually had kicked him out for the day. Made you wonder if she had done the same with her father, too.
“Ugh, this weather’s the worst!” Ena grumbled with a pout, she shrugged off her light beige cardigan and threw it across her room in hopes it’ll land somewhere, but it falls too close to the trashcan for comfort. She groans and lays back down, her grip on you only getting tighter.
Yet she made no move to get up or leave your side. In fact, she was tucked really snugly against you— her head resting on your shoulder, closer to your chest, her legs brushing against yours under the light-blue blanket. You could feel the warmth of her cheeks where they lightly pressed against your shirt.
The tingle in your legs was an odd feeling, but you didn’t dare to move.
“...I dunno, I kinda like it,” you said softly.
Ena went quiet for a moment, before turning her head slightly toward you—just enough for you to catch a glimpse of her surprised little expression. She shook her head a little, then glanced off to the side before speaking.
“I-It’s not so bad when you have someone with you, I guess.”
You couldn’t help but chuckle. “Well… I’m glad you invited me over.”
Ena groaned quietly and buried her face against your shoulder, her voice muffled. “You do too much sometimes. It’s embarrassing.”
You smiled shyly— heart fluttering from how close she was. Carefully, you wrapped an arm around her. Oh, how badly you longed to hold her like an oversized plushie.
“Embarrassing… but nice?” You offered; fortunately, you were well aware that Ena had a soft spot for your kicked puppy eyes.
She hesitated. After a second, you felt her relax fully against you, the tension fading away like sugar in tea.
“…Yeah,” she mumbled, digging herself more into your side. The plushies you had gifted her were off into the corner of her bed so that it was optimized space for the two of you.
“Let’s go out later, treats on me.” you promised, pressing your cheek gently to the top of her head. You pressed a gentle kiss to her forehead, you could feel her tense just for a second and then melted into your comfort. It was warm, Ena thought distantly. She’d never voice it though.
The two of you lay there in silence for a while, just listening to the rain. Ena’s hand eventually found yours beneath the blanket—awkwardly at first, but her fingers curled around yours tightly. She did eventually end up pulling away, it seemed her arm was twisted in an uncomfortable position so that she could hold your hand— so she resulted back to holding you.
The rain stopped, at least that’s what you thought; all you could hear was your own and your lovers breathing, and the hum of the air conditioning across the room. You had set both your phones down on her bedside table, Do Not Disturb on.
“…You know,” she started suddenly, “I don’t hate the rain that much when you’re here.” She didn’t whisper it, didn’t say it shyly, just said it as if it were a fact.
You turned your head to look at her face again. A faint blush was apparent on your face, thankfully Ena was looking at you right then. Her eyes were closed.
“I was just thinking the same thing… What’s there not to like with me around?” You teased and wiggled your brows.
She made a soft noise, flustered but content. Then, a quiet: “…Dummy.” She said, eyes fluttering open while she teasingly, and gently, punched your side. You let out a fake ‘ow!’, she giggled.
And she stayed close, she always did.
And for the rest of that rainy afternoon, neither of you moved. The world could wait. When you were next to Ena, it was always nice to remember that you’ve made the right choice with who you call your lover.
A warm and yellow-ish glow was growing from the thin curtains. It’d stopped raining somewhere along the line. You glance back at your chest, Ena was completely relaxed. Lips parted, breathing steady-- it was then that you realized she was asleep.
The intimacy of holding someone so close, of being so trusted… it meant the world and more to you. Love in words never came easily for you, so every second spent together was a second in heaven.
You cautiously lifted your hand and laid it down on her soft hair. She’d taken out her braid earlier, you remember noticing it but not saying anything. Her bangs rested on her face in a nearly angelic way. You raise her head and adjust yourself to be right beside her, You would stay like this forever, if you could. Her hand was curled up, you slide your hand into hers. Pressing one last kiss to her forehead before closing your own eyes.
