Summary:

Krbk Month Day 20: Travel

Kirishima planned a trip for Bakugou and himself. If everything goes well, he might be able to confess his feelings.

Notes:

So.... I finally finished day 20.

It's been a weird past few weeks, but I'm getting back to it. Trying to finish as much as I can this week since my schedule is going to be very chaotic after that, till who knows when.

Hope you all enjoy this one 💞💞💞

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It was their first trip together. Wait, no. I-Island had been their first trip together… and the time they went hiking… then again, they had done that more than once… Well… maybe it wasn’t their first trip together, but it was still a big deal. Especially because he had made sure none of their friends found out about it. No one knew where they were going, and he made sure no one had similar or related plans to theirs. They had been interrupted one too many times for Kirishima’s liking, and he had big plans for this trip.

Kirishima was going to confess during this trip, and he would not let anything go wrong.

They were heading to a fancy beach resort, since they both needed the rest from their work, and he had made sure it was a romantic spot. Bakugou seemed to be excited for the trip too, even if he wasn’t used to letting Kirishima plan things out for them without input. Kirishima had wanted it to be a surprise, and he had been relieved when Bakugou agreed to take a backseat on this one. Either way, Kirishima was trying his best to make this special.

They arrived at the airport early in the morning. Kirishima felt anxious even though they had gotten there earlier than needed. Bakugou grumbled about having to go through extra security because of his quirk again. Kirishima bought Bakugou his favorite coffee while they waited. Bakugou couldn’t hide the small smile on his lips, which made Kirishima feel more at ease.

“So, are you going to tell me what the plan is now?” Bakugou asked, more teasing than demanding as he took a sip of his coffee.

A small smile pulled at Kirishima’s lips. “We are just going to relax and have some fun,” he shrugged, trying to ignore the butterflies in his stomach.

Bakugou seemed to take that as a good enough answer for now. “We are swimming with sharks, aren’t we?” Bakugou chuckled.

“That wasn’t an option, but there is an aquarium I want to go to that has a ton of sharks!” Kirishima beamed.

Bakugou listened as Kirishima talked endlessly about the sharks he wanted to see. Kirishima slightly faltered as his best friend leaned on him as he talked. It always took him by surprise when Bakugou initiated contact, even if it wasn’t as rare as it used to be.

It was going to be a good trip, and they were both looking forward to it.

Kirishima had booked them first-class tickets without telling Bakugou. Bakugou raised an eyebrow at that, but didn’t say a word as they settled into their seats. It almost felt private, and it was nice. Kirishima tried his best to act casual, even if he couldn’t stop smiling that everything was going so well. They were on the plane, they would land, and then get a ride to the resort. He went over the list of steps in his head the whole time before the plane took off.

“Oh shit,” Bakugou said next to him.

“What? What’s wrong?” Kirishima turned around right away.

“Nothing, I think I forgot something,” Bakugou mumbled.

“Maybe it’s in your suitcase?” Kirishima tried. “What did you forget?”

Bakugou seemed flustered as he turned towards the window. “Nah, it’s fine. Don’t worry about it.”

Kirishima tilted his head, wondering if Bakugou was being honest or not about it. Either way, it was too late for them to go get anything that was left behind. He hoped Bakugou wouldn’t dwell on it, or that it was in his suitcase. He wanted to ask if it’s something they could buy once they were there.

He didn’t get to say a word before he felt Bakugou’s hand touching his. Kirishima looked over at his best friend, trying his best to hide his shock and wondering if Bakugou could feel his beating heart through their touch.

“I get nervous during takeoff,” Bakugou mumbled, not looking at Kirishima.

Kirishima smiled softly and squeezed Bakugou’s hand. He still counted it as a step in the right direction. They talked about nothing in particular as they waited for the plane to take off, trying their best to ignore the looks they got from people boarding the plane. Maybe two pro heroes on a plane drew more attention than he expected. Their joint hands were placed in a way that was hard to see, even more so when Bakugou placed the courtesy blanket over his legs.

Finally, they took off.

Bakugou squeezed Kirishima’s hand as the plane lifted off the ground. Kirishima couldn’t help it. He let go of Bakugou’s hand, wrapping his arm around him and holding him close, letting him know he was there and keeping him steady. Bakugou didn’t hesitate to lean into Kirishima. His hands found Kirishima’s and held them, for security or for something else… Kirishima didn’t know, but he was glad he was there to help his best friend. Even more when they were in the air, and Bakugou didn’t let go.

If anything, Bakugou adjusted himself so that they could be more comfortable, talking as if this was nothing out of place. Kirishima smiled, his confidence growing at the thought of confessing. Should he do it now? Or would it look like he was trying to trap Bakugou into a corner by doing it in a place he couldn’t leave if he needed space?

Kirishima swallowed down his words, like he had done too many times. He listened as Bakugou grumbled about the movie selection on the plane. He wasn’t sure when he drifted to sleep, his arms still holding Bakugou close, not wanting to let go.

Kirishima fell asleep.

Bakugou couldn’t even be annoyed by it. He had seen the way his best friend had looked so anxious at the airport. He wondered if Kirishima had even gotten any sleep the night before. Even then, Kirishima had gotten a coffee for him and not himself, which made Bakugou wonder if he was even aware how tired he was.

Bakugou chuckled as he felt Kirishima’s weight on him and heard a soft snore. He put on his headphones and put on a movie that didn’t look too bad. He watched, half paying attention since he was more focused on Kirishima. He was always focused on Kirishima. The way his chest rose and fell against him. The fact that his head was on top of his shoulder. His snoring was not consistent but never too loud.

Bakugou hated that he had forgotten to bring the one thing he had planned on doing. He let out a sigh, trying to feel his pockets again, even though he knew it wasn’t there. After all the effort he had put into buying matching rings for the two of them.

He had been wanting to confess to Kirishima for so long, and he had decided to do this now that they were finally going to be alone. Somehow, he felt at ease about the whole thing. He wasn’t sure what Kirishima would say… but he knew that no matter what, he would regret not saying anything more than risking losing his best friend.

They were halfway through the flight when Kirishima started stirring, but not before pulling Bakugou closer to him, as if his first instinct upon waking up was to make sure he was still there. Bakugou couldn’t stop the small grin on his lips as Kirishima mumbled something he couldn’t quite catch.

“You good?” Bakugou asked.

Kirishima only nodded against him. “What you watchin'?” he asked, his voice still heavy with sleep.

Bakugou handed him a headbud for Kirishima to listen to the rest of the action movie he had been watching. It was nice, especially since even when Kirishima pulled away to stretch, their hands found each other after. Their fingers interlaced in a way that made Bakugou’s heart skip a beat. Kirishima always made him feel like a giddy teenager… then again, he had met Kirishima as a teenager. They were only twenty-three now, but he still could see the boys they were back then, even with the new scars and challenges they had faced. Kirishima still had that smile that made his breath hitch, and he hoped something about him made his best friend feel that too.

The airport shuttle had been the best idea Kirishima had ever had.

The airport had been so overcrowded, and it looked like people were having trouble finding a taxi at all. Kirishima had only booked the shuttle since it was included with their hotel stay. It had become a lifesaver, and now they had a whole shuttle van for themselves as they tried to get used to the tropical climate. Even with the heat, Kirishima noticed that Bakugou stayed close to him.

They arrived at the hotel in half an hour or so. A five-star resort that looked better in person than it had looked on the website. They were shown to their room as soon as Kirishima was done checking in. He had booked a suite, but he couldn’t believe just how big it was. A living room, a kitchenette in case they wanted to cook, a bathroom with a huge tub, a patio with their own private pool, and, the one thing he was most worried about, a bedroom with one king bed.

Bakugou seemed impressed by the place. Kirishima watched him carefully as he looked around and noticed the slight hesitation at the bed, but there was no comment. It wasn’t like they hadn’t shared a bed before, of course, they had, but this felt more intentional. Kirishima was waiting for Bakugou to say something about it. Maybe tell him to sleep on the sofa or even the floor.

“What side of the bed do you want?” Bakugou asked.

“I-umm,” Kirishima cleared his throat. “I don’t really care.”

“I’m taking the side closest to the window then,” Bakugou told him as he set down his suitcase on the bed and started unpacking.

Kirishima did the same on his side. He tried his best to steady his heart when he decided to take an extra step. “Do you want to get in the pool after we’re done?”

Bakugou raised an eyebrow at him, but a grin soon followed. “Fuck yeah.”

Kirishima and Bakugou started rushing. Trying to place the stuff they would need on the side for their swim. The hotel had multiple pools they could use, but something about having a pool only for them felt different.

“Do you want me to order us some room service?” Kirishima asked.

Bakugou jumped on the offer. They ordered some steak for Kirishima and pasta for Bakugou. A few mixed drinks for both of them. They were both ready for the pool when the food arrived. They eat at the patio table. Both of them were buzzing with excitement to the point that Kirishima almost didn’t notice how close they were sitting to one another.

“This is an amazing place,” Bakugou commented as he finished the last of his food and took a sip of his drink.

“I’m glad you liked it,” Kirishima blushed slightly at the praise.

A pause.

Not uncomfortable, but the air seemed to shift into something more… Kirishima couldn’t help but swallow as he felt like the tension was growing.

“Pool?” Kirishima offered.

Bakugou nodded, and they both went into the pool. Not in their usual splashing and playful way, but slowly and closely. The pool was five feet deep, Kirishima was tall enough to stand and still had part of his chest out of the water, and Bakugou had his head above water while standing.

He wasn’t sure why he did it, but he pulled Bakugou towards him, lifting him up in his arms. Bakugou wrapped his legs around Kirishima’s waist without hesitation. His arms around his neck, red eyes studying his face carefully. Kirishima’s arms were around Bakugou’s waist and his back. Both of them seemed to be lost in a trance, trying to figure out what to do, what to say, how to move this forward.

Then, Kirishima bent his knees. Sending both their heads under the water for a couple of seconds before standing back up.

“WHAT THE FUCK!” Bakugou screamed, but his grip on Kirishima only tightened as the redhead laughed.

“Need to get our heads wet,” Kirishima shrugged.

“You could have fucking warned me!” Bakugou grumbled, a pout on his lips, Kirishima wanted to kiss away…

Why didn’t he just kiss it away?

“Katsuki?”

The word was a whisper, but it felt like a scream as Bakugou’s eyes widened at his given name coming from his best friend. It wasn’t the first time, but it had been said with a want Bakugou had imagined one too many times.

“Yeah?” Bakugou answered, sounding nervous.

“Push me away if you don’t want this,” Kirishima said, his words hesitant.

Bakugou then watched as Kirishima leaned closer to him. Kirishima felt Bakugou’s hand move to the back of his head, thinking he was about to be pulled away, but if anything, that hand was rushing him in.

Their lips met. A soft flutter of a kiss, before it turned into another, and another kiss. Each one was deeper than the one before. There in the middle of a pool, all by themselves, they were too focused on each other to even remember all the space they had.

Kirishima wasn’t sure how long they stayed like that. Intertwined and holding each other just above water, but when they finally pulled away, the water drops on Bakugou’s face only made him look more beautiful.

“Been wanting to do that for so long,” Bakugou confessed with a sigh.

Kirishima giggled, “Aw, you like me.”

Bakugou couldn’t help but blush as he yelled, “Of course I fucking do, you idiot!”

“Good, because I like you too,” Kirishima hummed as he tightened his hold on Bakugou.

They talked a lot the rest of the day between kisses before the jetlag became too great to ignore. They climbed into bed together, and Kirishima wondered why he had gotten such a large bed when they were wrapped around each other in such a small part of it… that was until he woke up in the middle of the night to remember how much they both tossed and turned at night… but somehow they were still in each other’s arms.

In the morning, Bakugou woke up Kirishima with a kiss before they made plans to go down to the buffet for breakfast. They took showers and got dressed, while trying their best to keep their hands off each other. They made it down to breakfast, plates loaded with food. They found a table to sit at. Bakugou leaned over and kissed Kirishima softly before they started eating. A dazed look on Kirishima’s face as he pulled away, making Bakugou smirk slightly.

Bakugou was about to say something witty, or maybe flirty, but he wasn’t able to come up with anything before he heard the shrieking scream behind them.

“I FOUND THEM!”

An all too familiar voice made both of their blood run cold. They turned around to see Kaminari, Ashido, and Sero standing nearby. “You guys! This place is amazing!” Ashido gushed.

“You should have told us you were planning this sooner so we could get more days off,” Sero added with a smirk.

“Were you guys kissing? Are you two finally together?” Kaminari asked excitedly.

“How the fuck-” Bakugou started.

“Kirishima left some papers out,” Ashido shrugged. “This looked fun.”

Kirishima groaned, knowing the only place he had any information about the trip was in his office, at work, because he had to ask for the time off. He was about to scream at his friends to leave them when he felt Bakugou’s hand on his arm holding him back.

“How long are you here for?” Bakugou asked them.

“Four days,” Kaminari answered. “We couldn’t do much other than a long weekend due to short notice.

Bakugou let out a hum, but he stood up, pulling Kirishima up with him. “Well, if you excuse us, we are going to be in our room for the next four days,” Bakugou told them with a smug grin.

Kirishima couldn’t help but laugh. He wrapped an arm around Bakugou’s shoulder as they walked away, leaving their friends dumbfounded by their abandoned breakfast. They could live off room service and with each other for that time. Even then, Kirishima had planned some excursions for them that were not in the details he had left in his office.

They made it back to the room, and they couldn’t help but laugh. Falling into bed together and laughing at the ridiculousness of their friends following them on vacation. “Remind me to kill them when we get back,” Bakugou said once they had calmed down a bit.

Kirishima shook his head, “Maybe we should do it now.”

“Damn… you’ve never been hotter,” Bakugou told him, pulling him in for a kiss.

They talked over their plan for the next couple of days to avoid their unwanted guest, but four days would go by fast. After all, they had booked for two weeks. Kirishima was not going to let them ruin their trip, and Bakugou was planning something… since he had found a small box in his luggage, he thought he had forgotten.
