Summary
There it was.
Up on the mountaintop, with sturdy walls and lanterns on the lookout towards like beacons in the winter night of the old continent. Scott was bundled tight against his chest, under the blanket Martyn had given them. Jimmy was leaning with his back against a sturdy tree trunk, up in the canopy hidden in the leaves. His wings were half folded but relaxed as he looked up at that mountaintop city, beyond which somewhere not terribly far were the free hybrid cities.
Jimmy had a lot of suspicions about that. He hadn’t voiced them; he knew Scott, for all his determination, was still woefully naive about the ways of the old continent, about how they all function.
It wasn’t hybrids vs humans or anything. It was far more complicated than that. But thankfully, so far, Jimmy had proven strong enough to protect him.
Maybe that was why his mind was spiraling, tugging like the last persistent leaves on the dying branches.
{In which Jimmy puts something to the air, Scott appreciates cuddles from his feathery boyfriend regardless, and it really is about time for an introduction.}
