Chapter Text

The snow against Dragon Boy’s back is cold. The feet kicking him on all sides hurts, but he’s felt worse, hurt worse than this. They don’t realize as they yell about how they are going to kill him, he is giving them a chance to run before he uses the energy he is storing up to make them stuffer. Such trash they are. Why else would they try to kill someone just for smacking a phone out of one of their hands when they were the ones mocking and filming him. Hypothermia Hero… what a stupid name. If he knew what the word Hypothermia ment, would it have made more sense? He doubts it. They were just making fun of him, he’s sure.

“Hey! Leave him alone!” A girl’s voice calls out just before a rock smacks the phone man in the side of his head.

“What the hell?” The phone man asks as he turns to look at the uninvited quest.

What is she doing? Doesn’t she know if she tries to help me they will only hurt her too? Dragon wonders as yet another rock hits one of the trash men in the side of the head.

“Stupid bitch, you want in on this?” One of the other trash men says as the whole trash group turn to face the girl.

Why is she trying to save me? Is she stupid? She needs to stop. She is going to get hurt. He can’t wrap his mind around why she’s doing this, however he can’t just sit by and let her get hurt in his place. As the group of five men move away from him to her direction he makes his move. He pulls himself up to his feet before crouching down on all fours and launching himself into the air so he lands in front of the girl on one knee with his head bent down. “Get out of here” he says in a quiet voice hoping it’s just loud enough for her to hear “I don’t need no help.” Without looking at her he turns around as he gets to his feet to face off with those trash men.

“Aw how cute, hypothermia hero is actually trying to save that chick.” One of the trash men says as he aims a punch at Dragon’s face.

Dragon grabs the wrist before the punch could land then lifts the trash man in the air then slams him down on the ground. Dragon feels a hand against his shoulder, must be the girl’s. “I believe in you” she says in a quiet voice.

He ignores her comment, he needs to focus on the trash men in front of them, he cannot allow this girl to get hurt for him. “Which of you pieces of trash is next?” He asks glaring at the remaining group. They could run, however instead two more launch forward with their fists raised. The trash in the hat is closer so Dragon catches his the fist, gripping it tightly so the trash can’t get away, punches him in the face then slams him into the other trash man. Another one tries to come at Dragon from the side only for Dragon to back away slightly, grip his wrist then elbows the trash man’s arm so hard Dragon feels the bone snap before he throws the trash man aside. “Just you left” he says to the phone man.

As the phone man hesitates, the girl places her soft hand again on his shoulder again “he isn’t worth it.” He turns to look at her for the first time.

He fully expects to just glance at her, however as his eyes land on her she’s so beautiful he turns his head to get a better look. She has bright blueish-green hair with matching eyes. She appears to be just slightly younger than him. “Wow” is all he can say, even think as he looks at her.

“Look out!” She says suddenly as a fist flys towards his face. With her warning he reacts in time to catch the punch without even looking. He twists the phone man’s arm behind his back then pushes him away. “That was close” she says finally looking Dragon in the face. “Let’s get out of here” She loops Dragon’s arm around her shoulders as her other arm goes around his waist. In his tired state he allows himself to lean into her though only slightly. “You are so cold, we need to get you somewhere warm” right he is still cold and wet. The adrenaline caused him to forget just how cold he is.

Why had he even been in that frozen pond? He groans as his head aches and a flash of two people standing over him enters his mind. The people are a man and a woman, he knows them or should know them but he cannot remember their names or who they are to him. They are standing on glass… no, they are standing on ice. He’s cold and he can’t breath. He tries to take a breath and his mouth fills with the icy water. He is going to drown. He swims up to the ice. He tries to hit the ice and nothing. He is going to die.

“See, told you he could do it.” The woman says to the man beside her as she kneels down on the ice above him. “You’re not at your limit yet, hang in there” she looks right in Dragon’s eyes as she speaks.

He can’t, if he stays in the water any longer he will die. He bangs his fist against the ice trying to break it and nothing. He shakes his head before gulping another mouthful of water. His lungs burn, he cannot take the pain any longer. He hits the ice again and again he fails to break it. He is going to die and these people do not seem to care.

“You can do it, I know you can. Just a little longer.” She is willing to watch him die, they both are.

He keeps hitting the ice and nothing is changing. He’s too weak. He can’t keep swimming. He can’t breath. He sucks in another mouthful for water. He is losing the will to fight, his limbs won’t listen anymore and he starts to sink again. He is going to die.

“What a disappointment” the woman says as she walks away. “Useless trash” though the words are in her voice he isn’t sure if she is saying them or if they are a reminder from the past echoing in his mind.

Who is she to call him trash? Those assholes forced him to go through this, forced him to suffer and somehow he’s the trash? No, fuck no! It’s them who’s really trash. Both of them, for all the pain they’ve caused, for everything they have ever done to him. They think they are above him? No, they should be the trash beneath his feet! Finally his limbs respond and he is able to swim back up to the ice. He punches the ice harder and harder. He uses all the pain he’s gathered and hits the ice as hard as he can finally breaking it.

Getting his head above water he gasps for air as he climbs out onto the ice. He coughs up water. He is in so much pain but he is alive. He breaths heavily, amazed he actually saved himself, that he actually didn’t die. Ha! That shows those asshole! Think they can just leave him here to drown? Fucking losers. One day he will get them back for all the pain they have ever caused him times two. He lays down on the ice, his limbs tried and aching. He will make them suffer another time. He is too worn out to make them hurt now.

“Hey, are you ok? Are you with me?” The greenish haired girl asks, drawing dragon back to reality. He should really get her name, shouldn’t he? Man, his head hurts.

It takes him a moment to process her words before he finally responds. “I’m… fine… I’m… right here…” he speaks slowly. Why are her eyes watery? As he looks around he realizes they are no longer at the park. Why are there so many people around them?

-Cyan POV-

Cyan is grateful that those men didn’t seem to do much damage to the purple haired boy leaning on her shoulder. Maybe it’s because she is that lucky, she not sure, she just knows she would not be able to hold most his weight if she had to. She looks back for a moment, they may have been jerks, but is it really ok to just leave them? Some of them didn’t get hurt too bad so they should be fine. She needs to focus on getting out of here, but where should she take him? She has no home. She hopes he has one but if not, maybe it’s time to get a crappy hotel.

Just as they were about to leave the park a white limo pulls away and drives off. That’s weird. Was someone watching the fight? Why would they just stay there and not get help? It could be unrelated but she has a bad feeling and her bad feelings are always right. Whatever the person in that limo was doing, it can’t be good.

Leaving the limo in the back of her mind, she leads the purple haired boy to the shopping center where she normally preforms. It is only then realizes she should probably ask him some questions. “Do you have anywhere to go?” She asks as she turns to look at him and her heart stills. She watches as he struggles to breath, his eyes aren’t even open and she doesn’t know what to do. She sets him down on a nearby bench and touches his cheek. He’s so cold. This can’t be good. “Hey are you ok?” She asks as her own heartbeat elevates. Such a stupid question, of course he is not ok! “Are you with me?” Maybe he just shut his eyes to rest. Please say something, anything please. Tears fill her eyes wishing for him to be ok.

She breaths a sigh of relief as she watches his eyes open. “I’m… fine… I’m… right here…” he speaks slowly as he looks around disorientated. He doesn’t seem fine but at least he’s responding.

“You really scared me” she wipes a few stray tears away with her hand. “But I’m glad you are ok” she doesn’t know what she would of done if he didn’t start responding. Take him to the hospital most likely.

“What was that about young man?” An elder man’s voice comes from somewhere behind her, startling her. “Dear me, I’m sorry young one.”

“It’s alright” It was only then she notices the crowd around them.

“What was… what about?” The purple haired boy asks.

The elder man tries to place a hand on the purple haired boy’s forehead but he flinches away. The elder man lets his hand fall. “Do you kids have a place to stay?” He looks between them doubtfully.

Cyan looks to the purple haired boy having an idea what his answer will be. It’s a moment before he answers “no.”

“We don’t sir” she adds.

The elder man thinks for a moment “young man, can you walk?”

“Course I can… old man” the purple haired boy says as he pulls himself to his feet. He’s unsteady but he manages to stand.

Cyan’s arm goes around the purple haired boy’s waist again. “It’s ok, I’ve got you” she whispers as he leans into her. He refuses to put much weight on her. Is it out of kindness or does he really think he doesn’t need help.

“Then how about you two kids fallow me?” Before either have a chance to respond, the elder man starts to walk away. The crowd dissipates to give them space.

“Um… where are we going?” Cyan asks. She exchanges a look with the purple haired boy before she fallows hesitantly.

“What are your names kids?” The elder man glances behind him “you can call me Mr. Lin.”

Is he not going to answer my question? Cyan wonders. “My name’s Cyan.”

“I’m…” the purple haired boy pauses and she isn’t sure if it is just from him speaking slowly or if he is unsure about answering. A small part of her hopes he will answer so she can at least know his name. “I’m… Dragon Boy.”

“Cyan and Dragon Boy you say?” Mr. Lin chuckles “you two have unusual names. Are you trying to become heroes?”

“Not at all” She says as Dragon Boy tenses at her side. Does he not like heroes for some reason? “Um, sir? Where are we going?”

“Why, to get you two a hotel room.” Mr. Lin says with certainty.

“What? You don’t have to do that!” Getting paid for preforming is one thing, she can’t just accept this.

“You two have no where else to go, correct?”

“Well… yes…”

“How do you think he will get better if he doesn’t have a warm place to rest?”

Cyan swallows looking at Dragon boy out of the corner of her eye. He’s so out of it he probably isn’t even hearing their conversation anymore.

“You don’t know, do you?”

“I don’t, I’m sorry” she looks down at the ground as they walk.

“It’s fine. You’ve brought in more than enough customers to our little shopping center. So please allow me to do this favor, it will make us even.”

“Really?” Cyan looks up to see Mr. Lin is smiling. “At least let me give you what money I have for it.”

“Then how would you pay for food? That boy will need hot food to recover, and you could do with some more meat on your bones little lady” Mr. Lin says the last part with a laugh. “So, let this old man do you at least this favor?”

“Ok” A smile pulls at Cyan’s lips “thank you Mr. Lin.”
