Chapter Text
An explosion sent birds flying into the sky as a figure donning a recognisable uniform and explosive plush dashed through the woods taking down a Hilichurl camp with ease. A bunny like red bow bounced on the figures head. Mondstadt summers are always hot but even throughout the heat the Knights Of Favonious work hard to protect The City Of Freedom entrusted to them by their dormant Archon. Walking through the busy streets is a certain red and fiery Outrider, showing no sign of bother from the heat. Outrider Amber bounced up the stairs, heading in the direction of the Ordo Favonius Headquarters, ready to deliver her report to the Acting Grand Master Jean.
Amber pushed open the large wooden doors of the Headquarters and headed straight towards Jean’s Office. Knocking lightly on the door she hears a muffled ‘Come in’ followed by two recognisable voices. Taking a breath in, she pushed the doors open and straightened up into a salute.
“Outrider Amber, reporting for duty!” She says in her loud and energetic voice, gaining the attention of all members in the room. Jean turned her head up and locked eyes with Amber, relaxing slightly when she sees Amber has arrived without a scratch.
“Ah Amber, it’s good to see you are here, now we can begin. Lisa? Kaeya? Would you like to explain the situation to our Outrider?
Amber let her arms fall to her sides as she turns her head to finally acknowledge the other people in the room. The librarian of the Library of Mondstadt, Lisa, and the Cavalry Captain of the Knights of Favonius, Kaeya. Amber tilted her head as she registered what Jean had said.
“Wait what are you talking about Grandmaster Jean? I thought you called me here so I could issue my report?” She questioned, thinking about what else the trio could need from her.
“We just need you to do a small mission for us cutie! Nothing to worry about,” Lisa responded in her usual flirting tone.
The statement simply confused Amber more.
“We need you to deliver a message to the Qixing of Liyue, for diplomatic purposes. We’ve tried to send letters recently but all of them have been intercepted and never received,” Kaeya’s smooth voice helped disperse Amber’s confusion.
“Wait so you want me to investigate while I deliver it?” Amber questioned
Jean lifted her head again and shook it at Amber’s question. “We only need you to deliver the message, we’ll be sending the Investigation Captain with you to investigate. Only lend a hand if Albedo need it,”
Amber’s eyes widened slightly at the mention of Albedo, she didn’t know much about him but she did know that he was mysterious and defiantly hiding some secrets but then again Amber didn’t know much about him to rightfully judge as she rarely saw him leave his lab.
“You are dismissed Outrider Amber, you’ll receive more information about this mission soon and you’ll depart from Mondstadt in 3 days so prepare.” Jean said in an authoritative tone
Amber saluted in traditional knight fashion with a hand over her chest as she nodded and walked out of the room.
As she exited the room and closed the door softly behind her, as to not invoke the wrath of the hall guards, she looked up and noticed Investigations Captain Albedo walking out of the library with a handful of books.
“Oh! Captain Albedo! Do you need help with any of those? I can lend a hand carry them!” Amber immediately rushed over to assist.
Albedo shook his head and gracefully declined her offer, like he usually did. Amber watched him walk up the stairs before diasappearing out of her sight.
Amber left the hallway and exited the Knights of Favonius making her way down the stairs of the city instead of gliding down, she wanted to avoid another scolding from Jean about ‘Improper gliding within city walls’.
She pushed open the door to the Angels Share with the intent to just relax and drink a little. She was off duty so she could spare some time to relax. She looked up and locked eyes with a fiery redhead cleaning glasses.
“Master Diluc! I didn’t know you were tending the bar today. Doesn’t Charles usually do it today,” Amberley cocked her head to the side, she’d been doing that a lot today.
Diluc put down the glasses he was cleaning and sighed, a complete opposite of the energy Amber was equipped with today. “Yes, Outrider. I am at the bar today because Charles asked for a rest today. Can I get you anything while you’re on duty?” Diluc spoke with slight distain, not as much if he were talking to a certain blue haired cavalry captain, but the usual annoyance aimed at the Ordo Favonius was still there.
Amber cleared her throat. “Actually, Master Diluc, Grandmaster Jean let me off early today because I have an important mission soon!” Diluc raised an eyebrow but didn’t push, simply asking what Amber wanted and making it for her.
“Also Master Diluc
Amber left the bar an hour later heading back to the Knights of Favonius Headquarters to her room on the second floor. She pushed open the door and sighed, the events of the day crashing into her and almost exhausting her. Almost. She proceeded to wind down with her nightly routine and headed to bed dreaming of her grandfather.
The wind blew through the window and a certain teal bard hummed a soft tune. “Looks like you’ll have an old friend’s spirit visiting you soon you old blockhead”.
