Stories about capitalism, police states and pretending to carry on like normal through the end of the world. Told through handmade diaries, telegrams, advertisements for 35$ hot dogs, tabloid headlines, terminal entries, Pip-Boy messages, notes from management, letters from friends, nastygrams from the credit card company and other ephemera documenting pre-Great War life.

Always thought Long Time Running would be my one-and-done, but I'll hunt myself in circles to prove all my other assumptions and preconceived notions wrong - guess this one's no different.

  Hey, it's always good to hear from you!
  
  For the most part, it'll be told through images - anything that was printed or handwritten on paper is fair game. Advertising, brochures, postcards, post-it notes, you name it. Some of it I am writing by hand and scanning onto my computer, others are completely digital. I'm also working on CSS/HTML so I can replicate a Fallout terminal but in a browser.
  
  Basically I really wanted
  1) An excuse to explore 20th century design ideas and pre-war Fallout
  2) A palate cleanser/something to keep me creative after finishing an LTR chapter (which can almost leave me feeling hungover because of how much effort I put in from drafting to editing. Like it is almost as though I leave my LTR cave and have to readjust to real life)
  3) Explore topics that either do not fit in LTR or would not get the proper time and attention I would like to write them with in LTR
  4) Art therapy/an attempt to get closure for subjects I am having a hard time with

    I love this. RE point #2 I totally get that. You get so engrossed in what you're writing that it takes over all your front burners and then also your back burners and also the oven. You get it all out and on the table and its like a relief but also ooohhhh my god... idk where to take that metaphor but you get it.

I love the use of the medium and these are so interesting with the attention to detail alongside the main body of text. It's also a perfect format and introduction to your work for someone like me who doesn't have the time she used to for longfic. Bookmarking this, lovely work.

Also love the incorporation of our current day 'woo-woo shit' - things feel very on point for Fallout satire for 2025 here. One of my favorite things about the series is all the holo terminal logs and scraps of paper and other misc things so this is just candy for my brain. Thanks for sharing with us!!!

  Thank you, I'm glad you like it! I really wanted to do something shorter format compared to what I normally do. My last LTR chapter was 20k and it's like.. I need a break from that and have other creative hobbies. It's an all-consuming text and it can make, say, embarking on a big drawing feel really high stakes and stressful when I'm out of spoons? But I still need to stay creative. Graphic designing letters and magazines and whatnot is a fun way to use Art Brain without feeling like I can't live up to my own perfectionism; it's very achievable and there's a hard stop on how much I can do with an advertisement or telegram header before the visual design stops serving its purpose.
  
  I used to work in newsprint journalism and worked as a paralegal. They're both professions where you end up sifting through the lives of others. One of my fave books is "Dirty Blonde: The Diaries of Courtney Love", which is a curated book made up of CL's diaries going back to when she was a kid. Some of my other fave books are House of Leaves and Infinite Jest - stuff in the WeirdLit/Ergodic category that basically eschews everything that commercial fiction writing is.
  
  When I go thrifting/look at estate sales, the stuff I hate leaving behind is the personal effects; photos of someone's aunt from the 30's, old magazines, saved newspaper clippings, Hallmark cards stuffed into frames. I always feel like I have to stop and look and appreciate them. It's hard to appreciate a text message in the same way that a handwritten letter demands appreciation. Someone sat down to think through and communicate their thoughts before committing ink to paper.
  
  So, I guess when you're used to uncovering the story of a doctor's malpractice in someone's medical paperwork, or when you're decoding what a politician says on paper vs what they really mean - plus you're a big Fallout fan and enjoy reading the mini stories in a crumbling office's mail relay - all of the above creates this epistolary idea. It was always in my back pocket, I just needed the right story to try the format.
