Kazuichi is lying on his bed staring at the ceiling. He’s looking at the glow in the dark stars he had put up there a couple weeks ago. Nagito had given them to him as a gift. Kazuichi can recall the day when Nagito gifted them to him.
“Hey, Kazzz!” Nagito buzzed, holding a small box in his hand. Upon further examination Kazuichi noticed it was a gift box wrapped with a pink bow. “Hey, Nagito! Whatcha got there man?” Kazuichi questioned, pointing to the box. “Ohhh this? It’s a gift I got you!” Nagito exclaimed. A puzzled look spread across Kazuichi’s face. ‘A gift? It’s not my birthday…nor a holiday. Why could he possibly be giving me a gift?” Kazuichi began to get lost in thought trying to unwrap the mystery behind the box when Nagito interrupted his thoughts with the answer. “There isn’t any reason for it.. if you were wondering. I just remember you mentioned having these in your room as a kid! I figured they would go nice in your dorm since you were still looking for decor..I hope you like them.” Nagito handed Kazuichi the gift box with a cheesy smile on his face and a small blush creeping up. Kazuichi took the box and began to open it. ‘No way he remembered.. I told him about that so long ago.’ Kazuichi had a light smile form on his face as he looked down at the glow in the dark constellation set in his hands. “Geez.. Thanks Nagito, I appreciate it. I was thinking about getting some of these but I thought it was stupid.. I mean we’re in college, what kind of college student still has glowing stars in their room.” Kazuichi began to nervously ramble. Nervous? Why was he nervous? “No biggie Kaz! And it’s not stupid I promise. Besides, no one will really see them other than Fuyuhiko and whoever else you bring into your dorm.” Nagito interrupted Kazuichi and his ramblings, smiling wide at him.
“Hellooo, earth to dumbass.” A voice called from the other side of the dorm. It was Fuyuhiko, he was sitting at their shared desk facing Kazuichi's direction “I asked you a question, Kaz.” Fuyuhiko proclaimed. “Sorry Hiko, I guess I was daydreaming. What’d ya ask?” Kazuichi apologized, sitting up to turn toward his roommate. Fuyuhiko rolled his eyes with exaggeration. “I asked you if you wanted to go to the movies with me and the others? And before you ask, yes Sonia is coming.” Fuyuhiko repeated. “Ya i’ll tag along I guess, what movie?” Kazuichi asked. “We’re going to the drive-in theater to see A Silent Voice.” Fuyuhiko said as he turned back around, focusing back on his homework. “Sweet I love that movie!” Kazuichi stated, drifting back off into his thoughts. ‘I wonder if Sonia has ever seen A Silent Voice.. Maybe I can sit next to her.. I should bring a blanket in case she gets cold! Then we can sit real close together to stay warm..’
Around 6pm Kazuichi and Fuyuhiko started getting ready for the movie. It was gonna be cold out so they both made sure to bundle up, Kazuichi making sure to grab a cozy blanket for the moment Sonia would need it. “You’re driving right?” Fuyuhiko snickered. “Haha, so funny. You know I'm not.” Kazuichi rolled his eyes towards his roommate. “Rightt you don’t have a license, I forgot.” Fuyuhiko laughed. Kazuichi glared over at Fuyuhiko, he knows his roommate is just joking around but god is it annoying. The two left to make their way to the drive-in.
“Hey look who’s finally here.” Called Hajime, “Seriously guys you always show up last.” he stated. “Sorry Kaz was soo worried about making sure he can keep Sonia warm that he spent 5 minutes picking out the perfect blanket.” Fuyuhiko retorted “Hey! not true!” Kazuichi spatted. “Ohh about that.. Sonia isn’t coming anymore, sorry dude. All the girls decided to have another sleepover so neither is Peko and Chiaki.” Hajime said, breaking the news. “Aw man, so I brought this blanket for nothing?” Kazuichi pouted. “I wouldn’t mind sharing with you! After all, I am really cold..” Nagito said gleaming while patting the spot next to him. Kazuichi smiled sheepishly, walking over next to Nagito cautiously sitting down making sure to not be too close. Kazuichi felt his body temperature rise, his stomach fluttered. ‘Is this butterflies? Why would I be getting butterflies? This isn’t okay. This isn’t right. Whatever it doesn’t matter, I'll just have to ignore it. Maybe it’s because it’s cold out. Yeah it’s just because it’s cold..’ Kazuichi thought to himself as Nagito scooted closer, starting to cuddle up on Kazuichi’s arm. “Is this okay? I wouldn’t wanna make you uncomfortable.” Nagito asked, worry seeping through his tone as if he felt Kazuichi’s panic. “Uh yeah..yeah it’s alright. All good” Kazuichi chuckled nervously. The movie started but that didn’t matter. Kazuichi couldn’t focus on that. Nagito was taking up all his brain space at the moment.
‘Why am I thinking about him so much? I should watch the movie, it is one of my favorites after all. Why is he so close? Why did I tell him it was okay? It’s not okay. Why does he smell so good? He smells like caramel and vanilla.. I’ve never noticed how intoxicatingly sweet he smells. It’s .. nice. Nagito? Nice? I mean yeah sure.. he was a good guy, always complimenting me, giving me gifts. It’s really nice. He’s nice. Nice to look at, smells nice. What. No. I need to stop. I don’t want to think this way. I don’t want to be this way, it’s not okay.’
Before he knew it, the movie was over and Nagito had apparently moved his legs to sit over Kazuichi’s lap. Nagito was practically sitting on him. ‘when did we get like this? How long has his legs been atop mine?’ Kazuichi thought before speaking up, “Hehe.. uh I guess since the movie is over that means it’s time to go. Fuyuhiko, you ready?” Kazuichi panicked, slightly pushing Nagito off in a hurry. Nagito gave a look of slight disappointment. Kazuichi ignored it and shot upwards making his way back to Fuyuhiko's car. “Well it doesn’t seem like I have a choice since your dumbass is already in my car. Bye guys, see you later.” Fuyuhiko waved goodbye to Nagito and Hajime, following Kazuichi to the car. With the sound of the car door shutting Fuyuhiko looked over at Kazuichi with a confused look’ “Alright what’s your fuckin’ problem? Why'd ya speed off? You didn’t even say goodbye to the guys.” Fuyuhiko questioned, clearly not amused by Kazuichi’s antics. “I don’t want to talk about it. Can we just go back to the dorm?” Kazuichi sighed. “No, I'm not leaving till I have an explanation. So spit it out.” Fuyuhiko pressed. “Seriously Fuyuhiko, I don't want to talk about it. Just drive.” Kazuichi snapped, crossing his arms while avoiding eye contact. “Tch whatever man.” Fuyuhiko replied, giving in to his friends' requests by starting the car. The entire car ride home was silent, in fact the rest of the night was silent. Neither of the boys spoke to each other for the rest of the night. For the first time their dorm was completely quiet, eerily quiet.
