Silver

Summary:

Scott isnt dealing with Avids death great. Luckily Cleo has bery strong parental instincts!

Aka i couldnt find the kind of Scott angst i want so i wrote it myself!

Notes:

Semi based on the throwaway line where Scott said something like "Does carrying a whole silver lantern in my pocket burn a little? Yes. Do i kind of like the pain?-"

So yeah, haha, anyways idk if this is ooc, i dont really care if this is ooc, deal with it hahaha

Its also not beta read or anything, hell i didnt even read through it a second time so its probably shit, i just wanna be able to write without the pressure of it being good

Anyways, happy reading!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

His silver jewlery softly burning his skin is the only thing keeping him remotely in his right mind as owen and pyro describe how they killed Avid.

Avid, the only person he felt had truly loved him in, well, ever. The one who was now dead because Owen had decided he didnt like him.

And scot hadnt done anything, hadnt been able to do anything.

His silver ring sears his hand as he clenches his fists. The pain the only thing keeping him from making a stake and plunging it through Owen or Pyros hearts right now, just how they had to Avid.

He escapes to his room the moment he has a chance, before he does something stupid like acting on his emotions.

He grips the side of his desk as hard as he feasably can without destroying the wooden table entirely.

The large mirror he keeps purely for aesthetics reveals nothing but an empty room and a now slightly cracked wooden desk below it.

He bites his lip as he contemplates for a second before abruptly opening one of his drawers and pulling out a thick wooden box hes had for many years.

His jewlery box.

He huffs out a sigh, this is stupid, there are going to be questions. Its easy enough to brush of the ring and necklace he wears as simply being fake silver, but if hes not careful the other vampires will be able to feel how much of a lie that is.

He opens the box and starts sifting through the silver, ignoring the familiar sting on his fingertips.

He picks out 3 bracelets he likes, simple and elegant, easy to miss if theyre not looking, if hes careful.

Another necklace, shorter, almost a chocker. As much protection as it is glammour, if they fight back when he kills them, he manages to convince himself.

He switches out his earings, silver encompasing a red gem. Hes always wanted to wear these despite the discomfort.

He swaps the rest of his gold pieces for silver too after deciding that combining the 2 metals looks odd.

At the bottom of his collection he finds a pair of claw like armour rings which he doesnt remember getting, before deciding that this is enough.

It will be difficult enough to brush off as is, not that he thinks any of the others would care enough to ask other than maybe shelby, and well, Avid.

But the later wont be an issue, Scott laughs at himself sadly.

He isnt even sure why he does this to himself anymore, maybe there was a reason, back in the day, but he doesnt remember it.

Maybe thats for the best. All he knows is that it helps him not think about all the sad parts of life. His eternal life, without Avid.

He has to stop thinking about him.

So he puts on all of the jewlery he picked out and ouch, that stings, but it distracts him from the thought of Avid.

When he stands up from his chair he stumbles pathetically, breifly registering that maybe making himself weaker isnt the smartest idea right now.

He steadies himself against the wall while he adjusts to the silver, ignoring the burn against his skin.

God he looks pathetic. He hopes Shelby doesnt come knocking on his door to chat right now.

It takes him sevral more minutes than hed like to steady himself to his usual grace and feeling confident enough to head out to get some food.

Its already fallen to night by now, and the lack of any distant noise other than the rustling of leaves seemingly only strengthens the suspicions that the castle is empty.

The others have likely gone out to claim beacons while they have the advantage, which is not only good for him at the moment, but the vampires as a whole.

But mainly its good for him because hes not in a talking mood right now-

"Well arent you all blinged up. Celebrating Avids death are we?"

Scott has to fight the urge to slash cleo across the face at the last comment, though he cant even really blame her.

If anything Cleos been one of the more pleasant people to be around other than Shelby and-

Ah, yeah, he was supposed to stop thinking about Avid. Otherwise whats even the point of the silver?

"I wouldnt exactly call it celebrating, but sure, lets go with that."

Cleo gives him a look, and had he been wearing less silver he might have been able to dicipher it, but he isnt, so he has to stay blissfully unaware.

"Well, thats about what i expected. How come the new drip then?"

He may be weakend right now but he is not nearly out of it enough to miss the knowing, almost concerned tone in her voice.

Hes under no illusion that Cleo hasnt alrwady clocked him, shes observant like that, and probably the last person he wouldve liked to run into right now. Doesnt mean he wont lie through his teeth anyways.

"What, i cant look glamorous while mourning now? Ive been wanting to wear these earings for ages, arent they gorgeus?"

His finger pieces clink against the red gems as he taps them, trying to make a point he know wont make a difference.

Cleos expression only really darkens at his blatant avoidance of her actual question. It doesnt surprise him but his mind is not nearly clear enough to come up with a better plan to get Cleo off his case.

"Yes, i see, very nice colour there, blood red and- ah, silver! Beutiful combo really."

Scott nearly manages to supress the flinch at her bluntness. Nearly.

"Mhm… Fake silver really looks like the real thing doesnt-"

Cleo ignores him and grabs his arm before hes even able to register what shes doing, cutting him off.

Its calm though, collected, almost soothing, unlike what youd normally expect from a coldblooded vampire. Though still deliberately avoiding his silver bracelets because ofcourse she knows.

"Look Scott, im not gonna lie and say im particularly fond of you, of anyone here other than Pearl. But i do draw a line at self harm."

Scott is caught so off guard that he freezes for a moment before begining to stumble over the words he otherwise so gracefully uses.

"I- what! Im not, like. I dont even know what you mean, its not-"

She shushes him as she starts pulling him back twoards the rooms. Cleo gracefully does not mention it when he pathetically stumbles sevral times on the way there.

Once she enters her own room with him, she sets him down on her bed and begins removing his bracelets. Entirely ignoring that theyre silver, and shes a vampire.

It takes him another embarasingly long moment to come back to reality enough to swatt her hands away.

"Cleo! Im fine what are you even doing, youre gonna hurt yourself!"

All she does is roll her eyes as she zwitches to taking of his rings and other finger adornments, despite his honestly kind of sad attempts at getting her to stop.

"I dont know what you think, but youre actually clearly not fine, Scott. And doesnt you worrying about me getting hurt feel a little bit hypocritical for the guy wearing the silver in the first place?"

Scott cant argue with the last statement, but he can totally argue with the first one!

"Seriously im fine, i wasnt attatched to Avid or anything, its not like i actually care about him. Im fine, i wasnt attatched!"

The younger gives him a frankly unimpressed look, theyre very good at making him feel like theyre his mother, despite the age difference.

Cleo ignores his attempt at a lie as she moves to take off the admittedly quite exessive amoint of necklaces around his neck.

She gets through more than half of his necllaces before he tries to stop them again. Despite the silver burning his skin hes been wearing this lockett for, well, almost since he turned.

Hes not about to let her take it off regardless of her good intentions.

"Scott? Let me take the silver off."

He hesitates for a moment, but eventually gives in to how pitiful he will seem.

"Please?.. Can i keep just this one? Ive- uh, Ive had it for centuries."

Cleo looks at him for a moment, expression blank and unreadable. Then she sighs and moves on to the next necklace.

"Youre unbelievable, you know that?"

It doesnt take long before theyve removed all of the silver jewlery, discarding it haphazardly on the floor despite Scotts initial whining.

Shed tried her best to do it while burning her fingers as little as possible, like a person with normal self preservation instincts, but it had been mostly futile.

Shell never quite understand why he thought this was a good idea in any capacity, but she suposes emotions can make anyone irational, even a thousand year old vampire.

Not that shes completely oblivious to what this is, though she doubts Scott of all people would be willing to talk about it, let alone with her.

Without all his usual bling (though it usually isnt silver) he looks young, like the 20 something he probably turned as.

Instead of the old regal vampire act he usually puts on, he looks more like a pouty child ready to argue about his bedtime right now.

When she offers him their hand all he does is scoff in ofence before promptly colapsing on to them the second he tries to stand up on his own.

Clearly the amount of silver hed been wearing was a little bit too much for a single vampire to handle, even one of his age and power.

Shes surprised it took this long for it to catch up to him, but seeing as hes apparently been wearing silver for centuries, maybe his body is used to it.

They vaguely hear him mumble something into their shoulder as she is currently supporting most of his weight, but she doesnt hear what.

She doesnt think she particularly cares what he said anyways, probably a blatant lie about being ok or something.

"Alrighty, you need rest now, while i go get rid of this silver."

She speaks while setting him down on her bed once more, guiding him under the sheets and covering him.

He may be a grown man but right now he sure looks like a whiny sleepy kid. He lets out a fittingly pathetic sound of protest as she tucks him in.

They know vampires dont technically need sleep, but that doesnt mean it isnt a good way to recover ones strength, especially after being stupid like Scott.

Shes about to leave when Scott sniffles, the tiredness clearly getting the better of him and his suprisingly human emotions.

They return to sit on the side of their bed and starts running her fingers through his hair as he breaks into sobs.

Avids death clearly affected him much more than hed ever willingly let on, but she isnt as oblivious as hed probably like.

They sit like that for a while, untill Scotts miserable crying dies down and he falls unconcious against his own wishes.

And then for a few extra minutes to be safe, before standing up and leaving.

She figures someone has to make Avid a grave, regardless if she liked him or not.

They can take Scott there once he wakes up.

Thanks for reading about the dumb sad gay vampires!!!
