Chapter 1: Don't wake her up
“Hello, everybody, my name is Enid Sinclair, and today I’m doing another BookTok!” Enid’s voice was high, almost shrill, with excitement. She adjusted her camera again so it focused on her, and a wide grin spread across her face. “Welcome back or welcome in! If you’ve been here a while you probably know I’m actually a big fan of horror books, even though the movies make me queasy.”
She looked at her chat, which was being spammed by ‘hellos’ and mentions of another horror book.
‘Have you done Of Murder and Tyranny?’
‘We need Viper de la Muerte?’
‘You need to do W.A’s bookkkkk’
“W.A.’s books are definitely a work of art, but they’re already very popular, and well, I have my own personal reasons for not reading them,” Enid said cheerily, although the chat could tell she looked a little nervous. “The author is very private, you know? And I like to connect with my authors when I read.”
‘Girl that makes no sense’
‘You need to try for the movie’
‘THERE’S GONNA BE A MOVIE??’
‘Yeah but there’s not much promotion for it, W.A.’s very private so she doesnt advertise yk?’
“Alright guys, calm down. I’m just reviewing Frankenstein, okay? Maybe, in the future, I’ll do the Viper trilogy. But I’m definitely not trying for the movie-” Enid had an accusing finger pointing at all the mentions of it in the chat- “I’m not even an actor!” She forced a smile and continued. “After I finish reviewing we’ll play some game, aight? But we have to be quiet. I don’t wanna wake up my roomie, there’d be a knife on my throat before you guys could type ‘lol’.”
‘Roomie reveal when?’
‘Finally, you’re been hinting about your roommate for so long, why can’t we see her??’
‘Ooh is this the goth roommate confirmation?’
“Oh my godddd,” Enid groaned, putting her head in her hands and dragging them down her face. “Yes, my roommate is goth, but she’s also very private and camera shy. And SHE IS GOING TO ABSOLUTELY MURDER ME IF-”
There was a quiet rustling off the camera, and Enid turned around slowly, her face paling in horror. “Wait-” she took in a sharp breath, glancing quickly over at her camera and placing a finger over her mouth. A clear sign to be quiet.
Which was strange, because the chat couldn’t make any noise even if they wanted to.
Enid crept off camera, her face softening.
“Hello,” she cooed as if she were talking to a child. “Good morning.”
Wednesday sat up, her face set in a small pout. Her arms were still crossed, but her leg was askew from where she had kicked the bedpost. Dark irises were covered by half-lidded eyes, and she squinted at Enid, untangling her arms and slowly stumbling to her feet.
“Oh shit,” Enid cursed. She grabbed one of her pale gray hoodies and stepped closer to Wednesday, slowly put it over her shoulders before zipping it up. “Are you cold, buddy? You’re not wearing your uniform jacket.”
Wednesday mumbled something unintelligible, which was probably a threat. “Whywakemeup,” she said finally, her jaw working to get the words out. “Gonnakilltogonnakill-”
“Hey, c’mon, you haven’t slept in days, you’ve spent so long on your novel, and I know that Addams have that weird battery thing where they need to sleep in, so no killing.”
Wednesday sleepily reached towards her desk, where her precious knife lay in its hilt.
“No no no,” Enid fretted, wrapping her arms around the girl where she leaned, so she didn’t fall over.
“Gonna stab you I needa-” Wednesday slumped forward in pure exhaustion, her eyes closing entirely, still murmuring something like “you’regonnadiegonnastabwhocanImaim…”
Wednesday finally quieted, her breathing evening out.
Enid smiled down at her roommate, leaning down and kissing her forehead. “Sure you will- uh…” Suddenly conscious of the stream, although unsure whether they could still hear her or not, she couldn’t say Wednesday’s name like that, couldn’t expose her name like that. She wasn’t one to share Wednesday to the world. “Sure you will, little menace, I’m sure you’d be so great at killing me. If you feel the same way by noon, that is.”
She smiled to herself and Wednesday’s nose pressed against stomach, and Enid adjusted her arms where they propped up the raven by her shoulders. “Alright, come on.”
Wednesday didn’t weigh much, so it wasn’t too difficult for Enid to drag her onto her monocolor bed. She tucked the blankets onto her, a soft smile still on her lips. Wednesday looked so peaceful like this.
The werewolf slowly crossed her roommates arms for her in her preferred sleeping position. “Sleep well, my little author. You promised me you’d do some publicity stuff today, didn’t you?” she leaned forward, unsure of what to do, but couldn’t resist pressing her lips to Wednesday’s forehead for the second time that early morning.
Enid breathed in deeply, regaining her composure and bubbly personality for her audience. She adjusted her slightly rumpled clothing and sat down on her gaming chair, grinning widely.
“Hey, guys! Sorry to keep you waiting so much, my roommate is also an outcast, and an author! She stays up really late to write now that she publishes stuff, in addition to her usual hours. Since she’s, like I said, a certain kind of outcast, she doesn’t need much sleep, but when she does that, she has to sleep for a long time on one day…”
She trailed off as she realized her chat was going wild.
‘SHE FELL ASLEEP ON YOU??’
‘CUTEST THING IVE EVER SEENN OMG’
‘Are they lovers?’
‘WORSE. THEY ARE FUCKING STUPID.’
‘Why the fuck is your roommate so hot Enidddd’
‘Enid my gaydar is short circuiting pls tell me your dating or your paying for my therapy’
“Don’t call her hot,” Enid said, her voice hinging on a growl, her claws automatically unsheathing. Then she processed what they had said.
“Wait… you guys saw that?”
She squinted at her camera. “Oh fudge. I guess I wasn’t off camera- that wasn’t scripted I swear! Please tell me none of you recorded that… I’m deleting the stream, okay? My roommate is actually super camera shy so, like, please don’t share pictures of her?”
There were around 8k people watching her stream. Chances are one of them would; Enid was a very famous person, between her streaming, youtube, modeling, and the occasional comedy skit.
“I’m gonna reboot the stream. Y’all behave, because it doesn’t matter how much you whine, you’re never gonna see my roomie again.”
The comments turned sad.
‘Nooo we’re so sorry….’
‘Please Enid ahsgiuheuiwhgiuerhgiurewhghiurehiughrehiugre’
‘This is robbery’
‘Nah ts homophobic’
‘I will unsubscribe >:( ‘
Enid read the chat, though she could barely keep up with it. “You guys can’t cancel me over this, oh my god. I want to keep my private life private. And plus, shipping real people is disgusting. Me and… my roommate are real people.”
The comments didn’t let up.
“Ugh, to hell with it all. Ending the stream, okay byeeee lovely people!”
