In a Way I Never Thought I’d Be Because I’ve Never Been.

Summary:

wemmbu gets hurt and egg takes care of him

Work Text:

Wemmbu barged into the doors of their base. Stumbling into the hallway, and attempting to look around through his blurry vision.

He had just gotten back from a fight with Flamefrags, and was in.. less than ideal condition. He barely felt the numerous wounds during the heat of the fight, but when the adrenaline wore off.. it hurt.

Wemmbu had scraped his limbs a few times, from falling whenever he missed a mace shot. Along with a few wounds on his forearms, and a gash on his leg, that he was shocked to have even gotten here with.

“Egg?.. uh, you- you there dude?” He called out into the hallways, hoping the other could hear him. Unless Egg was out fishing, there was almost no reason for him not to be at the base.

“Huh? Yea, I’m here dude, need something?” Egg replied back, his voice coming from one of the many rooms in the hallway. He was probably in the library, reading one of his many, many books.

“I.. I kinda need help, like, big time.” Wemmbu let out a nervous laugh, simultaneously wanting and not wanting the avian to see him like this. Egg had seen him injured plenty times of course, and he was grateful the other bothered enough to take care of him. He was still.. trying to remind himself he could trust Egg.

“Dude, did you get hurt aga- Jeez my guy.” Egg cut himself off as he walked out of the room, taking a look at the other’s bloodied state.

“…Flame?” Egg said, knowingly. After he noticed the burns that were placed across Wemmbu’s body. He had already gotten the first-aid kit when he heard Wemmbu ask for help.

“…Flame.” The other mumbled back, letting Egg guide him to a nearby chair to get fixed up. Wemmbu dreaded sitting down though, knowing the disinfecting part of this ordeal was soon to come.

“Yo, Egg, is there like, a way I don’t need to.. y’know, clean it?” He asks, obviously not too enthusiastic about that part. “No, dude, you have to clean it or it’s gonna infected. And an infected wound is way worse than a regular one.” Egg explains, getting the disinfectant ready, along with some water.

Egg starts to take a cloth and soaks it in the water, gently cleaning around one of the gashes on the other’s arm. It’s a kind of softness that Wemmbu rarely gets to feel, and when he does, it’s.. always been from Egg.

Huh, he doesn’t know what to think of that.

Wemmbu watches as the avian then prepares to actually disinfect the injury. Spraying the cloth with a regen potion or something similar. He doesn’t really  remember, or care enough to.

“I’m about to start, so brace yourself.” Egg warns, before pressing the cloth against the wounds to let it take on the effects. Wemmbu hissed out in pain, but didn’t flinch away, letting the other do what was necessary.

“Alright, I just need to bandage it and you should be good, nothing needs stitches this time.” He confirmed, getting the gauze and wrapping it around the other’s forearms.

Wemmbu watched in silence, it was weirdly comforting to watch. Maybe it was because of something stupid like knowing Egg would still fix him up, even when he did stupid shit like this.

Egg cleared his throat, trying to get the other’s attention. “You gotta lay off on the fighting dude. This is happening more than it should.” He said, with concern in his voice.

“Egg, you know that’s easier said than done.” Wemmbu sighed out, looking away from the other. “..Please don’t talk more about this.”

“Fine, whatever man.” Egg mumbled out, shaking his head. “You need rest, let’s get you to the bed, it’s like.. 2am.”

The other nods along, not having the heart to give Egg anymore protests, as they walk down the hall and into the bedroom. They were accustomed to sharing a bed, it was practical for transport. Since they didn’t stay in one place for long.

They both hopped into bed, Wemmbu suppressing a groan at the injuries on one of his legs. The pain was dimmed down to a dull ache, and the exhaustion would surely help him get to sleep.

As they lay there in the dark, Egg let out a long exhale, looking at Wemmbu. “Y’know, you can wake me up if you need to.” The avian offered, knowing how Wemmbu gets at night.

“..Got it.” He mumbles out, turning on his side. He doesn’t want to burden Egg with his own stuff, he can handle it himself.

…But the reassurance was comforting, and it let him drift off to sleep feeling a bit less lonely.
