The temps were freezing. Below freezing. The snow had settled and turned Hawkins into a winter wonderland. Eddie was miserable while you two were out in the snow. He knew that you two could be cuddled up, maybe with a hot drink. Or doing other warming activities. But you insisted that you two walk down your street to look at Christmas decorations. You loved how the lights twinkled and the cute little decorations people put out. Albeit there was still a little bit of time until the sun went down. Eddie thought that you just wanted to walk to the furthest house and make your way back to your house so that you didn’t have to do more walking than what was needed. And you did tell him that but that wasn’t the only reason. You wanted to show Eddie that the snow can be fun. And warming up after was just as fun.
“Babe,” Eddie whined, “why did we leave this early? It’s freezing!”
“Oh, because,” you said, a smile evident in your voice.
If Eddie didn’t know you, he would not have seen the little mischievous glint in your eyes. But he did and he eyed you carefully as you stepped away from him a bit. You had your hands behind you and did your best to look like the picture of innocence. It almost worked. As Eddie opened his mouth to say something, you threw a snowball at him. It hit him square in the chest. He was shocked. Betrayed! He thought that he could trust you when it came to the cold.
“What was that for?” Eddie pouted. You laughed and a look of feigned horror spread across Eddie’s face.
“Oh, come on, baby. It’s just a little bit of snow,” you said as you knelt to scoop up another snowball.
“But it’s cold!” Eddie replied.
You threw the second snowball and laughed as it hit him in the shoulder. Before you could kneel down for another, he was kneeling down to scoop up his own snow ball. Eddie quickly stood and threw it at you, hitting you in the arm. You were a little shocked but a laugh took over you. Soon enough, you two were throwing snowballs at each other. Between the snowballs being thrown, you two were laughing and it was like nothing else mattered. Eddie wasn’t even focused on the cold that he felt but was more focused on flinging another snowball at you.
Eventually, you both were running out of breath. This led to you two standing across from each other, hands on knees, and strained laughs coming out. With a bit of laboured breath you both stood at full height. You took in how Eddie looked. His cheeks and tip of his nose were rosy and he had a grin on his face. You smiled and stepped closer to him.
“See? The snow can be fun,” you told him as you took his hands in yours. You were now flush against him, and looking up into those beautiful doe brown eyes.
“I think warming up would be a lot more fun,” Eddie said, his voice sultry. You hummed. A shit-eating grin appeared on his face and he pecked the tip of your nose. “We could head back and warm up, I can think of at least one way to do it.”
“Yeah? I think that’s an excellent idea,” you replied.
“Then, let’s get going,” he said.
You two then made your walk back to your house. Each house twinkled with Christmas cheer against the snow. Hand in hand, you two walked through the cold. Eddie wouldn’t admit just yet but he did enjoy throwing snowballs with and at you. He was cold and a little hot but he had a great time. And he knew that what made it great was the fact that he spent it with you.
