Chapter Text
It was third of December, Cosmo was freezing, Sprouts scarf was wrapped around his neck. Sprout was holding his hand for warmth. He loved him, so much. But how can he say it? Sprout obviously doesn't feel the same way.
Besides, they're best friends. Their friendship could end immediately. Sprout would look at him in disgust, judgement, in contempt. That's something Cosmo would never want in his life. He'd rather stay friends with the main, then get loathed by him.
They were sitting at a bench in the lobby of Gardenview, watching as the toons decorate the place for the upcoming Christmas event. Cosmo was thrilled, his cousin was finally gonna show up soon!
He'd finally get to spend time with his favoite cousin, even if it was just for a month. He'd do anything to have even a day with his cousin, he's refrained from meeting his cousin for a year and he's tired of it! Now Christmas is finally close!
He's been trying so hard to decorate his room into the Christmas spirit, and maybe into something his beloved cousin enjoys too! His best friend has been supportive along the way, even helps him when he has time.
"You're room's amazing Cos!, I'm sure you're cousin would love it!"
Sprout compliments, the room had Christmas lights on the top of the walls and his bed had Christmas related sheets and pillows, his walls had posters of him, Sprout, and both of them altogether, while there were also Christmas decorations too.
Cosmo loved it, his cousin would love it. After all, she loves anything her cousin does for her. She appreciates Cosmo's kindness a lot, that's a reason why Cosmo is her favorite cousin too.
Back to the present, he looks at where Sprout is supposed to be, but he wasn't there. He didn't feel a hand holding his anymore, but he still had the scarf with Sprout's smell. Finn said Sprout was called to have a meeting with the mains, and although Sprout was hesitant and just wanted to hang out with his best friend, he reluctantly went to the meeting, leaving Cosmo with his scarf still asleep peacefully.
Cosmo thanks him and walks over to the kitchen to bake more warm treats for the toons. An hour has passed, Cosmo finds himself about to pass out on the batter when familiar pink hands grab his head and balance him.
"Hey sleepyhead" Sprout grins. Cosmo's face flushes red from embarrassment. "Oh gosh, I almost ruined the batter.. W-wait, what about the cake?!" "The cake's fine, Cossie" Sprout reassured him. Pointing to the cake on the counter, properly baked and warm. The roulade chuckles, feeling really shy from how Sprout took care of the tasks he was in charge of. "Oh my.. I'm so sorry.. It slipped my mind and my eyes are really drowsy at the moment" "Don't apologize for that, Cos. You're tired, you should go to bed and rest. I'll take care of the rest, okay?" He kisses the top of Cosmo's hand. Cosmo loves when he does that. Even if he does it to everyone else. "Thanks Sprout, I'm lucky to have a best friend like you" "Anytime Cossie! Now go to sleep" Sprout shoos him away playfully, and Cosmo giggles walking out of the kitchen.
He walks down the hallway, full of rooms belonged to toons. Scrap and Goob's shared room, Tisha's room, Shrimpo's room, and finally his room. He gently opens the door, the dim light of the Christmas lights the only light source of the room. He flicks the light switch, the light bulb flickering on. He flops down onto his bed, waiting for sleep to slowly drown in him.

"I love you"
The pastry confesses. "I love you so much, I can't even explain it. Your eyes, your smile, your leaves, your freckles, your voice, your kindness, everything about you is so amazing. I'm in love with you, Sprout Seedly" He looks away shyly, expecting Sprout to reject him.
"..Me? You like me?"
Sprout asks, his brows furrowing. "Ew, Cosmo. We're both boys, boys can't love boys. Nor even date them." Turns out, he did reject Cosmo. Except, worser. Harsher. Cruel. Unlike the sweet Sprout Seedly that would cuddle with him during sleepovers, get clingy when he's lonely, get affectionate when he's sad.
"You're disgusting, don't ever come near me again."
The berry tosses his bracelet at Cosmo, walking away with a face that showed revulsion and repugnance. Leaving a sorrowful pastry behind. His grip on his former best friend's bracelet hardened, while tears started to form in his eyes. It was better when he was quiet about his feelings. Why did he have to ruin his friendship with him? He thought Sprout was leading him on. He thought Sprout was giving him hints that he liked him back. Guess he was wrong. Guess he really didn't know Sprout that much after all.
Cosmo wakes up, wide eyed. Panting. He sighs in relief, thankful it was just a nightmare. A silly nightmare. He's never going to confess. Not when he can't even accept his own feelings. After all, Cosmo's just one pathetic toon hopelessly devoted to a main far more better and greater than him. He's way out of his league. Cosmo would never be good enough for him.
Never.
