Work Text:
Neptune was dead.
Neptune was dead and that’s all there was to it. Uranus has no right to grief him after how much of a jerk he was to him. Uranus has no right to grieve after his last words to Neptune were “We are no longer friends,” it didn’t seem that significant but Neptune was his first friend. They were so clouded that they called each other cousins. Now, Neptune was dead and Uranus would never get to be called “cousin” again.
The silence of his firm was deafening. On a normal day, Neptune would have already barged in and been talking Uranus’ ears off right now. Neptune would always barge in despite how much Saturn and Jupiter told him not too. It used to bother Uranus so much that most the time he would end up kicking Neptune out, however at this moment he could only hope Neptune would barge in and talk Uranus’ ears off.
The night sky outside was pouring, perhaps the clouds were also grieving Neptune, or perhaps the stars were cowering from Uranus.
Uranus didn’t mean to befriend a murderer. How could he have known? Surely he wouldn’t have.
He should’ve seen the signs.
There were definitely signs, Uranus was just to blind to read them. The tone when that murderer, X called Neptune brother, or how X would always seem to appear when Neptune was nearby. X was distancing him from Neptune, but now it was too late to do anything about it. Damn you, X.
Neptune should have just avoided him, he really should. If Neptune had stopped talking to Uranus then C could have never manipulated Uranus and ended up killing him. Neptune had every reason to stop talking to Uranus too, Uranus was such a bitch. He would always insult Neptune, he would always end up getting upset at Neptune’s memory issues, and worst of all, Neptune was always there for him. Neptune should’ve just abandoned Uranus. If Neptune abandoned Uranus then he would still be alive and Uranus would have learned to be a better friend without losing Neptune. What good is it to know how to be a good friend when there is no one else Uranus would ever want to be friends with, he only wanted Neptune.
Neptune should never have died, and how the only thing he can do is make up imaginary scenarios in his head where Neptune was never dead, his cousin was still with him. He can only imagine that Neptune would burst through the door when Uranus was painting, compliment the painting and sit down on Uranus’ bed and start talking his head off no matter how much Uranus protested. He dare say he missed it.
Uranus could only imagine how Neptune would poke him during class to distract him, and they’d both end up having no notes taken down by the end. That was the only thing Uranus could do, because it was his fault X killed Neptune.
Wait…
That wasn’t the only thing that Uranus could do. There was one more. Neptune would not approve of it, but Neptune was dead, and he couldn’t stop him.
Uranus took his phone from off his desk. Turning on the screen, it illuminating the entire room, like a flash of lightning would. He opened a contact he previously blocked and labelled “Murderer.”
Uranus sent a single text. “Meet outside.”
He didn’t bother to check for a response. Of course X would suspect something, but Uranus knew he would still come to indulge in curiosity.
Uranus got up from the firm mattress then put on his shoes and coat. He grabbed something from underneath the bed that was meant for emergencies, though this was not, no, this was revenge. He left the room and took his time heading down. He knew X would wait.
Uranus wondered if Neptune was watching. Would he be upset at Uranus? Would he be mad because of how rude Uranus was? Or was it because Uranus inadvertently played into Neptune’s murder? Maybe he would be mad because of what he is going to do to X.
X had it coming. He shouldn’t have done it without considering the true wrath of Uranus. He was not a violent person, but Neptune deserved Justice. Neptune deserved someone to avenge his dead. This would be the last opportunity he had to do something for Neptune. His last chance.
Neptune would get Justice.
When he got out the door of the building, X was outside just barely out of view from the windows. X was fortunately and unfortunately facing away. X wouldn’t even see him coming, both good and bad.
He wondered if X knew his plan. He wondered if X came despite that. Maybe X trusted that he wouldn’t do what he was about to. X should not trust him, not after what he did to Neptune.
It was dark enough that no one would be around, and if someone was then they knew better than to get involved.
Perhaps the stars in the sky would see this action, would they understand his reasoning? Would Neptune understand his reasoning?
Uranus pushed open the glass door. Clouds covered the sky, they covered the stars. Maybe it was best that the stars would be protected from seeing this violence. Maybe this would Neptune protect from such a sight.
Uranus lifted the wooden object firmly within his hands as he quietly walked towards X. Each step felt like a hundred, each was heavier than the last. So close yet so far. Before X even had the chance to turn towards him,
He swung.
