Work Text:
Yang was perfectly and exquisitely exhausted after the long mission she had with Weiss and her sister. Her aura had yet to recover, probably not helped by the broken ribs her aura was actively working on healing. Ruby and Weiss dropped Yang off at her and Blake's home.
"Take it easy, Yang," Weiss warned.
Yang waved off Weiss' concerns. "I'm perfectly fine, Weiss."
"Yang, we're not getting any younger," said her sister. "I know I'm feeling that fight," said Ruby as she rubbed her shoulder.
"Ruby?" asked Yang, instantly concerned.
"I've got her, Yang," said Weiss. "Take care of yourself...actually, have Blake do it. She does a better job of it than you ever have."
"Ha. Ha. Bye, Weiss. Call me tomorrow you two?" asked Yang.
"Yep!" said Ruby.
Weiss eyed Yang. "Think you can make it to your door?"
"I'm perfectly fine, Ice Queen."
Weiss eyed Yang for another moment before sighing. "Alright. Talk tomorrow."
Yang nodded and waved before making her way to her door. She opened it and seeing the lights off made her way up to her and Blake's bedroom, where she found her wife, Blake, sleeping. Yang smiled at how adorable her wife looked, and carefully leaned down to kiss Blake's forehead.
"Mmmm, Yang?" Blake sleepily asked.
"I'm back. Go back to sleep, love," Yang answered.
Blake opened her eyes and blinked away her sleepiness, eyeing her wife.
Yang winced. "Sorry, didn't mean to wake you."
Blake shook her head and sat up, wiping the sleep from her eyes. "How was the mission?"
Yang sat on the bed and took one of Blake's hands. "We cleared the town. No more Grimm."
"That's good. How's Ruby and Weiss?"
"Good. Ruby was feeling it, but I'll check in with her tomorrow," Yang replied.
Blake looked her wife over. "And you?"
Yang knew better than to downplay her pain. It had taken a long time to get to this point, but she knew that Blake would only be hurt more by what she didn't say.
"I'm feeling it too," Yang admitted.
"Where?" asked Blake with ready concern.
Yang rested a hand over her chest. "My aura isn't back yet. It's been too busy healing my ribs."
Blake nodded. "Let me help?"
Yang smiled. "You already know I'm going to say yes."
"Doesn't mean I shouldn't still ask," said Blake, as she got out of the bed. She leaned down to meet Yang's lips.
Yang met them and sighed happily.
Blake pulled back. "Come on, let's grab a shower."
"Oh?" Yang smirked.
Blake shot her a hard look. "No funny business."
Yang chuckled. "No worries there. I'm wiped."
Blake nodded seriously. "We'll be quick then, unless you want to go straight to bed?"
Yang shook her head. "No, it's a good idea. I want to be close to you."
"Alright, babe." Blake pulled her wife gently by the hand. "Let's go."
Yang smiled. "Lead on."
It was cold.
Yang was cold.
She couldn't remember the last time she was cold.
Yang tried to move, but a powerful ache rocked her body, leaving her gasping.
"...Yang?" her wife's voice sounded next to her.
But the ache was too much for her. She fought against screaming out in pain as her body felt like it was being impaled by hundreds of razor sharp daggers.
"Yang?" Blake's voice now sounded worried.
Shit, Yang thought. She was strong. She could answer her wife. She could. She...
"You look like you're in pain," Blake said.
Yang heard movement next to her.
"Shit, it's freezing."
Yang felt a hand on her face.
"You're cold too. Your aura still isn't back?" asked Blake.
Yang tried to answer.
"Yang, don't try. Stay here. I'll work on getting the heat back on," said Blake before kissing Yang's cheek, and getting out of bed.
Yang struggled to even move. Her body was consumed by pain. Normally her semblance would love this feast, but without her aura, it just hurt without purpose. She really tried to even just sit up, but her body refused to listen. Her breaths shuddered and though she fought against it, tears started to pool under her clenched eyelids.
Yang wasn't sure how long it had been when she heard her wife coming in and felt warm hands on her face.
"Oh, Yang..."
Yang felt Blake get under the covers and bring her warm body against Yang's.
"I'm here. I fixed the heater, but until it warms up, it looks like I get to be the one to warm you up," Blake attempted to say lightly.
All Yang could do was release shuddering breaths.
"I'm so sorry, love," Blake said. "I've got you. I've got you," Blake whispered into her wife's ear.
Yang nodded. It was all she could do at the moment. She focused on her wife's touch and tried to lengthen her shuddering breaths. Bit by bit, Yang's pain eased up as it warmed up and the cold no longer attacked her body ruthlessly.
"I'm...better," Yang stuttered out.
Blake kissed her wife's head. "Was it the cold?"
"I...Yeah."
"When's the last time you haven't had aura when it's been this cold?" Blake asked.
"Not...for years," Yang answered.
"Are you okay if I run us a hot bath?"
Yang nuzzled her wife. "In...a minute."
"Whatever you need."
Yang released a heavy breath. "Okay."
But Blake didn't move. "Now I need my minute."
Yang let out an airy chuckle.
"Okay, I'll be quick," Blake said before shadow cloning away.
Yang pulled the blanket more tightly around her achy body to keep as much warmth inside as possible.
Her wife was back in a few minutes. "Yang?"
Yang looked at her.
"Let me do all the work?"
Yang smiled warmly. "Okay."
Blake carefully scooped Yang into her arms and carried her into their bathroom. She set Yang down and Blake gently stripped her before picking her up and setting her down in the bath.
Yang closed her eyes and let the heat seep into her worn body. She felt herself finally relaxing as her pains eased tremendously. She opened her eyes when her wife joined her in the bath.
Blake brushed some bangs out of Yang's face. "Better?"
Yang smiled. "So very much." Yang huffed. "That was awful."
"Seemed like. What was it?"
"It was like the cold was making all my old injuries flare up all at once."
Blake winced. "That does sound awful. Your body has been through too much to have any reminders."
"As long as I have aura and it's warm, I never even think about it."
"That is good, but I'd like to get us a backup heater for the bedroom. I hope this never happens to you again, love, but I want to be prepared in case it does."
"I...yeah, I think that's a good idea," Yang softly admitted.
Blake shot her a loving smile. "Let me keep you warm until your aura comes back?"
Yang smirked. "And how do you plan to do that?"
Blake pushed Yang's shoulder. "A dust powered blanket and cuddling, you lecherous sex fiend."
Yang laughed and her sore chest twinged with pain, Yang's hand moving to rest over the spot.
Blake's hand moved to rest over Yang's. "Plus you know how I feel about sex when you're injured."
"I do." Yang relaxed in the hot water.
"Let's wash up, and I'll get the bed nice and warm while you wash your hair."
"Sounds perfect. I love you."
Blake smiled. "I love you too."
As Yang settled against her wife in their now toasty bed, she sighed contently. She turned and kissed Blake. "I don't know what I ever did to deserve you, but I love you and I will repay you for all this."
"Silly, you don't need to pay me back for caring for you. You do that every day just in how you love and care for me. I'm simply beyond grateful that you let me care for you this time."
Yang got bashful. "Yeah, well, only you."
Blake smiled knowingly. "I know. Love you, Yang."
"Love you too." Yang yawned.
"Come on, let's rest," prompted Blake.
"Hmmm...sounds good," Yang sleepily replied, warm and content.
