Work Text:
“Leo, hi, someone needs to do the 9 o’clock briefing. Anyone but Josh, No, I can’t- have you looked outside? I can’t get to the White House, it’s- I’m snowed in, Leo, what do you want me to do? Dig?”
CJ groans, tilting her head back just as Andy walks past her in comfortable pajamas, putting two coffee mugs on her breakfast table. Leo asks what the hell she’s talking about. “They’ve been up clearing roads in the district since sunrise, you live nearby, you’re good to go. What’s the matter?”
Softly enough that Leo can’t hear over the phone, Andy sing-songs “yeah, honey, what’s the matter?” CJ turns away from her to keep from smiling.
“Let’s say I’m not in DC,” she offers Leo.
“What are you doing outside of DC?”
CJ sighs. Andy muffles a laugh behind her, she can hear her smothering herself with a pillow. What, indeed.
“Personal matters that neither of us wants me to specify out loud, Leo. You fill it in, or- don’t.”
“Jesus, CJ.” Leo calls for Margaret. She can hear the irritation in his voice and doesn’t blame him a bit. The laughter that was carefully beginning to bubble inside her dies down immediately. “Where are you? How long is it gonna be?”
CJ turns around and raises her eyebrows at Andy, who’s nestled herself into the couch with her hand on her baby belly and a grimace when she tastes her decaf coffee that CJ swears is just like real coffee but Andy’s not gotten used to yet. She mouths ‘how long?’ and receives a shrug.
“The roads are blocked,” she tells Leo. “I’m in Maryland, Leonardtown. People across the street can barely open the front door, no one’s driving through this, and this is not the street with prioritised clearing.”
Andy acts mock-offended and CJ can’t help but laugh. Leo doesn’t sound like he appreciates it. “It’s not gonna be til late this afternoon,” she adds. “I’m really sorry, Leo.”
“You had to pick the night before a snowstorm to— not be in DC.”
“Guess so.”
“Toby can do the briefing. Josh will take some of your meetings, Carol can handle the rest. You had to pick- never mind. Congressman Haffley’s coming to the White House for that education bill Wyatt and Santos were trying to… but if you’re not home, you can’t fax over those papers, huh?”
CJ shakes her head. She sits down next to Andy, then remembers the phone. “I try not to bring work on dates,” she tries to joke. Andy mouths liar.
“Well, alright.” Leo shuffles some papers. Andy hands CJ the real coffee. “I haven’t heard from Andy’s office yet,” he adds. “You don’t happen to know if she goes to Maryland or stays in DC on the weekends, do you?”
CJ surprises herself by not choking on her coffee at that question. Andy muffles her laughter in CJ’s shoulder this time. “No idea,” CJ manages to say. “Most members of the House go home, especially around the holidays.”
“Lazy bastards all of them,” Leo mutters. CJ chuckles in agreement and catches Andy’s hand mid-air when she tries to start arguing otherwise. “I’ll ask Toby. See you this afternoon, worst case tomorrow?”
“Worst case, tomorrow.”
“See you, CJ.”
He hangs up before she can say anything in return, just in time for Andy to burst out laughing. She doubles over, head against CJ’s shoulder again, her free hand on her stomach. “CJ Cregg doesn’t take work on dates, that’s a new one.”
“Was I supposed to tell Leo McGarry that the Congresswoman he’s waiting for gets off on being argued with about that education bill of hers?” CJ asks, and Andy makes a delighted sound that makes CJ unable to think of anything but to kiss her right there and then.
It’s exactly what she does.
“So,” Andy says, a few minutes later, when they’ve come up for air twice and CJ’s spilled coffee on both of them. “We have the whole afternoon?”
“I guess we do.”
Andy smiles. She kisses CJ’s hand, licks up a bit of spilled coffee. “What ever are we to do with all that time?”
