Work Text:
The station has no power. It’s pitch black in the shadows, and only the faint light of Glo-Paint emergency signs are working. Even the backup power source has failed. The artificial gravity has failed and life support is completely off. There is no atmosphere, no breathable air. I have to drag myself through the station, occasionally pushing off a bulkhead and propelling myself forward. There are large viewports and I can see the stars beyond the station, with just the slightest peek at the planet it orbits. It’s beyond quiet, a deep silence that seems to smother everything. I just have to get back to the ship.
I continue soaring down the corridors, drifting along and strategically bumping into walls in order to steer. A faint light is visible, drawn like a path in the air leading away from me. I can’t see it with my organic eyes; nothing is happening there. But my drones can. It’s leading me through the derelict station. Straight to the docks. I see the familiar airlock and push a bit harder to float there as fast as I can. It opens as soon as I am close enough and closes behind me. Gravity and atmosphere already starting to return to normal.
